A romance set in the Scottish Isles. The village of Balvaig, on the Hebridean Isle of Soma, seems like a haven of tranquillity. Artist Lenka Majewska and historian Ella Collingwood have arrived there with decisions to make.
Recently-widowed Lenka longs for time to come to terms with the twists her life has taken since she was a teenager. Now she’s being pressured into deciding whether or not to remarry.
Ella craves a fresh start for her marriage and her family. Her husband Rolf’s new job with the local salmon farming company seems to offer this. But it’s soon clear that Rolf still has a roving eye. A way out beckons. What lies down that path: a brighter future for Ella and her five-year-old daughter Lottie, or further heartache?
Meanwhile, Soma’s inhabitants also face a choice: will they vote in favour of a huge new offshore salmon farm? Or will the landowners get their way and see the salmon industry, and the jobs it brings, gone?
