Artemisia “Aria” Crawford has worked diligently all of her life, but has little to show for it. When a family property unexpectedly falls into her lap, Aria finds herself willing to do anything to keep it—including traveling from Chicago to return to her home state of Virginia with an unexpected husband in tow. What should be an easy trip turns into something far more complicated as she finds herself embroiled in family secrets, murder, and mayhem that leads her to the realization that it’s one thing to receive an inheritance. It’s another thing to keep it.
I still remember the exact day I fell in love with reading. It was nighttime and raining. Mom and Dad had already sent me and my sister to bed. But I couldn't sleep. We didn't have cable (and I'm pretty sure the parents wouldn't allow it) and cartoons were over for the day. I remember turning on the light, looking across the room at my snoring sister and then at my bookcase filled with books. I wasn't a reader at the time, but my mother was. She was constantly buying me something. I walked over to the bookshelf and pulled my newest book off the shelf and just began to read. For the first time, I learned what it was to leave my room and go someplace else; to care about imaginary people so much, I had to turn the next page; to get so caught up in a story, hours flew by. And it is that exact feeling that I want so much to create in my readers. Enjoyment, entertainment, and feeling blessed.
This book gives "OG" Embassie vibes...all the good "Tate Family" feelings are back and in full force. I loved Aria. Her character was everything. The Bible says a wise woman is worth more than rubies and she definitely lived up to that saying. I cannot wait to dive into the other sisters....Perhaps Luane and Abram??!!! Buy this book you guys, you won't be disappointed!!!
*4.75 stars Any book written by Embassie Susberry is an automatic read for me. I don’t need to read the synopsis or peek at the reviews of the book, to know that I will utterly enjoy my reading experience. With The Inheritance, I loved every single moment of reading this story. Quite lengthy with 699 pages, the substantial number of pages did not inhibit my reading but made it much more exciting to spend more time with the amusing characters she created.
As a lover of character driven stories, I was delighted with the array of characters in The Inheritance. The story is set primarily in the small town of Arbor Springs, Virginia. Readers meet main characters Artemisia “Aria” Crawford and Tulane “Lane” Mosley who are coworkers in Chicago at an insurance company. Coworkers yet enemies, they are both shocked when their boss asks them to help establish his brother’s newly opened insurance company in Virginia. Upon agreeing, albeit hesitatingly, they both create a plan to assist in each other’s unfavorable family predicaments while in Virginia. Aria soon gets thrust into the intricate family drama within the Mosley family, including a disrespectful mother-in-law, six rude sisters-in-law, and a menacing cousin. Onerous family secrets and deadly threats arise that leave them questioning their original plan and their futures.
The Inheritance is well written with an engrossing mystery, unforgettable characters, and an intriguingly unique love story. Themes of family, forgiveness, and restoration are woven throughout the tale and contribute to this page-turning novel. As a Christian fiction author, there were enjoyable scenes of faith where characters were depicted praying and growing in their relationship with Christ. I especially appreciated the realistic depiction of characters who had rededicated their lives to Christ, dealing with character flaws while maturing in the faith.
The novel ends with an Author’s Note, in which the author writes that she hopes the reader was blessed and entertained by the story. She successfully achieved both, as I was both blessed and immensely entertained by the story. I thoroughly enjoyed it and am elated to know that this is book one in the Arbor Spring series. I look forward to reading the next book in the series, and I highly recommend this book.
Your way of telling a story is like finding puzzle pieces with odd shapes which are your characters. They have their unique personalities, mystery, flaws and familiar qualities that remind you of yourself or a family member. As you read, those pieces start fitting perfectly in each space. The puzzle gets bigger and bigger until this Beautifully written story with all the suspense, laughter, cries, and surprises keep you turning page after page! Looking forward to next one!
Loved it!!! Such a good book although some parts kind of dragged on. The family dynamics were so relatable. Lots of humorous parts, mystery, and sibling drama. I couldn’t put it down. You won’t be disappointed. Embassie Susberry is one of my favorite authors.
This was the first time I’ve read a book by Embassies Susberry but it will not be my last. I enjoyed the book! It bought out the good and the bad about family, friendship, and love.
You always get pulled into Susberry's stories. The characters are interesting and the layers of a story you get caught up in. This story is another good read. Bring on book 2!
