Desert One is the true story of Operation Eagle Claw - the ill fated American hostage rescue mission - that ended in tragedy in the Iranian desert in April 1980. The mission was highly controversial and risky from the start with all the known factors that had to be addressed in order to free the hostages that were being held in Tehran. But from day one fate seemed to be against the dedicated and determined members of the newly formed and still secret Delta Force special forces unit that had been tasked with carrying out the mission, as they had to find a means of getting to Tehran without being discovered.
This book is ok, but its topic is fantastic, so why shouldn’t the book be too? Actually it’s intriguing that there are so few books about Operation Eagle Claw. “Desert One…” serves as an introduction but it lacks depth and weight. This tale waits for the right writer to turn it into a Pulitzer winner.
