Horrors from beyond the veil throw themselves at the Bulwark, a dimension forged by the god One-Eye. Marais and his squad are Legionaries, each a superhuman soldier entrusted with the defense of humanity against threats that lurk in dimensions beyond. With his tenure for the Bulwark complete, Marais seeks to leave his life of conflict behind, but the trappings of war are not so easy to escape.
As he departs all he’s ever known with only his squad to accompany him, he meets Colt, a guard captain out of his depth, Sweet, an ex-Legionary mercenary leader, and Y’baan, an ancient warlord. Together, they fight against an ancient evil for the city of Ryggrad's fate, and the fate of every world. A mysterious man with shattered eyes and unknown intentions moves through the chaos, for he knows that the heroes of old are long dead, and there are few worthy to replace them.
THE LINKS OF NAV'GANASH is the first in a collection of stories by first-time author Ian Steinwell in a dark epic fantasy world of his own imagining. A diverse cast of characters and settings focuses on themes of duty, the long fall from greatness, and the idea that not everything is as it seems.
Loved the fast pace, storyline and cast of characters in this book, set in a fantastical world, or rather worlds. The level of detail on ancient weaponry and magic is rivaled only by the manner in which they are implemented. I am definitely hoping there is a sequel... and those kaleidoscope eyes are definitely mesmerizing.
