The mafia threatens Ewon into working for a loan shark, where he's forced to run dangerous errands for no pay. The culprit who doomed Ewon to this life is none other than Jiho, Ewon's jealous ex who still burns at Ewon's infidelity. Their gang leader Mookyul, with movie-star good looks and the bizarre, drunken habit of biting people on the neck, takes a keen interest in his attractive new errand boy. Will Ewon be able to survive the violent underworld (not to mention the constant sexual harassment) he must endure as an underling of Mookyul? This funny, hip title by Hajin Yoo will thrill and amuse fans with plenty of intense shonen-ai action.
I feel the Ewon is starting to show a bit more depth in this one. I like how he is starting to stand up to Mookyul. Mookyul is so spoiled in too many ways. Most of them bad though. His boss creeps me out. I like how this volume explains more of their past but why Jiho hooked up with Mookyul is still a mystery. I though he would play a bigger role but it is still small. Honestly some of the other mafia members have larger roles in this story so far than the lover does. That frustrates me some. I am quite curios to learn what happened to Ewon as a child. We get a vague hint but I want more! Next volume please!
Ewan is angry after Mookyul's antics at the dinner, and the marks on his neck will take a long time to heal. He cannot understand why he would want to bite him there in the first place. Knowing he cannot try to cover it up in the Summer heat, Ewan goes about his life working for Jiho as usual.
Byung-Soo who works at the same place is disgusted by what happened at the dinner, and now that the ones who were there think he is hitting on other guys, Ewan feels as though his reputation is taking a dive after Mookyul's drunkenness.
Byung-Soo soon changes his mind about him though when he wants to borrow money from him to give to Yoonhye his girlfriend, who is only interested in what he can give her rather than their relationship.
Ewan feels it is more trouble than he is worth and refuses at first, but is soon talked into letting Byung- Soo handle the finances that week.
When Ewan and Sangchul take Mookyul to his bosses place, Ewan is amazed when the Chairman of the company is there and takes an interest in him.
He finds out Mookyul is high maintenance but in his own words worth it, which leads Ewan to question why it is that Mookyul gets special treatment, designer clothes bought by the Chairman and a key to his expensive apartment.
The question is will Ewan like what he finds out?
Volume two of this manga hots up with Ewan realising he must keep one of the deepest secrets in his mind where it will stay for the rest of his life but due to circumstances beyond his control someone he works with is very close to finding out the truth.
As usual, the art is perfect and beautifully executed. The characters loveable and interesting as well as fun to read about, which is the main thing the reader will get intrigued by. This has to be the Net Comics manga of the year by my standards.
Hillarious comic timing on Hajin Yoo's part. This book is the biggest laugh I've had this year! Mookyul's past and Ewan's dedication are intriguing to read about in this tale of boy's love gone crazy!
Again, this is still just the beginning of the series. Also too short to justify that $6.99, but I assume I'll read this again in the future. Manhua is kind of like that. Anyway, we're just getting into the actual meat of the story.
Volume 2 is better than volume 1. It was easier to follow the characters and storyline. The arguing between Ewon and Mookyul is becoming repetitive. I hope the story moves forward and they begin communicating in the next volume.
Much, much better than the first volume. The plot gets going even though it remains pretty cliché.
I particularly liked his dilemma about letting the homophobe dig his own grave out of spite : it really illustrated that hate only breeds hate until we break the cycle.
As I said in my review for volume 1 this has beautiful artwork but I'm not super fond of the plot though this one did have more to it than volume 1. I'm still not sold.
Mookyul and Ewon's past is releaved. Both are orphans and went to the same elementary school. Ewon's actions toward Mookyul got Mookyul kicked out of school. Ewon's parting promise to Mookyul have been plaguing Mookyul but Ewon doesn't remember. Mookyul is fierce and violent but is lonely inside. Ewon is stil oblivious to the emotional chaos his actions cause. I'm rapidly losing interest in the couple. I find Mookyul interesting and his relationships with the people around him, but Ewon is dragging my enjoyment down because he is so simple.
"Totally Captivated" remains today as one of my favorite yaoi manga - why? It is fast-paced. It is romantic. It is sad, it is hysterical. I cried and laughed, blushed and rolled my eyes.
Mookyul and Ewon...I just ship them so bad. There's that as well.
Not only were the back-stories brilliant, and the main characters brilliant in themselves...but all the side characters were just as deep and amazing!
And the plot! Oh my, the plot!
Above all, the series was brilliant. By the end, I was, indeed, "Totally Captivated."
Interesting storyline with a plot that kept me interested throughout the whole series. The two main characters, Ewon and Mookyul, grew on me as the story went on. Their love story is not without its funny moments, with bits of angst thrown in too. Certain moments will make you laugh out loud while others will tug at your heart strings. The artist did such a good job of blending both. This manhwa is definitely one for keeps.
I've got to give it to Ewon...the way he holds on and respects Jiho...you don't see that every day. But the worst thing to do, is to not be honest and Hajin Yoo did a spectacular job of writing a story that's so freaking honest and relatable and shows that even when we have good intentions, shitty things can still happen. Because we are freaking human and we're not perfect and we're built to make errors. And we don't fall in love with people in day. It's all the little things that add up.
I was very entertained - dare I say totally captivated (snicker) - by this series! The relationship between Ewon and Mookyul develops nicely from beginning to end of the series. Both are flawed characters, and handled very well. The secondary characters and situations fill in the story without detracting from it. A good read. This review repeats for the whole series. :D
Totally Captivated is one of the few amazing Korean manwhas and it's a well- thought story. Beautiful art and very likable characters. I've reread this series countless times and I still love it everytime.
