The Lasker Brothers #1

Bebe pentru șefu

Rate this book

DELOC.

Mda. Asta nu se va intampla.

Great build up, lacked execution

The build up to Emmet and Amy was great, it had a decent amount of plot holes but nothing too major. But then it just fell. Nothing really got resolved correctly, it rushed through the last few chapters and honestly, neither characters held my attention.

Spoiled adult male who got what he wanted, had no sense of boundaries(not in a good way) and whose character didn't make sense(honestly if he's a workaholic he sure had time to drink at brunch, get massages, go on trips) paired with a woman who almost gave in completely to a male for no actual cause and didn't seem to have a backbone?

Maybe read this is your TBR pile is at it's very end.

Billionaire, alpha male, office, secret baby romance!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: 💚🖤💙💖
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📘📙
World building: 🌏🌍🌎🌏
Character development: 😄😮🙂🥰
Narrator(s): 🎙🎙🎙🎙🎙
Narration type: Duet Narration.

The heroine: Amy - she’s been sleeping only 4 hours a night for the last three months and is up and in the office by 8 am every day. She needs the job to pay off the student loans for her Harvard college degree and MBA from Wharton which cost nearly half a million dollars, and she is not a quitter. She plans to show her horrible bosshole that hiring her was the best thing he has ever done before her two years are up in eight more weeks, before turning in her resignation. She might stay though if he begs her to stay and offers her some terrific incentives to stay. She was raised by a single father after her mom left when she was a baby, and she gets along with her dad very well.

The Hero: Emmett - he is a wealthy financier, a founding partner of a venture capital firm who is often seen out with different women on his arm. He is an alpha male who gives his employees large signing bonuses with the caveat that if they don’t stay at the firm for two years, they have to pay it back. Then once the employees are locked in, he works them nearly to death.

“A modern bosshole can fake being decent human while making your life miserable at the same time.”

The Story: Amy has a lunch meeting/interview with a new firm and is looking forward to getting a job with less hours and more money to pay off her loans and save up for a home for her father to retire in. She is dating a guy named Rick who she doesn’t really have time for. When he plans a weekend away, Amy just knows that her boss will somehow find out and kill her plans by throwing a bunch more work on her. It has happened before. Little does she know that Emmett is a bit too interested in her love life and knows that her boyfriend plans to take her for a weekend away, so at the last minute, he gives her more work.

Amy works till midnight and gets angrier at her boss with every minute she works, so when she goes into his office to throw all his frustrations at him, she catches him in a compromising position while moaning her name. One thing leads to another, and they end up getting busy. I liked how Emmett was a bit of a stalker for Amy before she got interested in him and she found him in flagrante.

This audiobook was told in dual points of view via duet narration and was narrated by Sebastian York and Maxine Mitchell. Both of these narrators are terrific. I love Sebastian York’s gravelly voice that sounds so down to earth. Maxine Mitchell has a clear, feminine voice and is great at showing emotion through her voice. They do a fantastic job, as always.

No.

Why does this have over 4 stars lmaooooo y’all are wild go read more books. Don’t get me wrong, I like cringe sometimes but this was ridiculous.

This author seemed to try too hard to make a romcom because she didn’t understand romance. I have to assume she’s never experienced a decent man in this lifetime if she thought this man was a winner in any way.

There was one part when the male mc was like “I’m not cute I’m hot” and I think that just shows you how poorly written and cringe level this was bc who even says that, if a man said that to me I would laugh in his face lmao. He continues through the book literally talking about how hot he is? Who talks about how hot they think they are constantly. Stop 😂

I saw the cover and name and knew it would be bad and shouldn’t read it, but “don’t judge a book by it’s cover” right? No, wrong. Judge this one and don’t read it.

This one was such a blur for me. Like there was some funny parts and some cute parts but this just wasn't for me. I didn't feel anything for any of these characters and I felt like they had no chemistry. Everything felt very two dimensional. I was sad about this one.

First Impressions
Baby for the Bosshole is the first book in the "Lasker Brothers" series and after having a fun time with Contractually Yours, I just had to jump back into this series and this was delicious sexy fun! I am always on the lookout for some fabulous rom com's to enjoy and this author is definitely going on the list for authors that I need to be reading so much more of. Her writing was so engaging and I couldn't stop laughing at this one, especially the dialogue, was so entertaining. If you are always on the lookout for a sexy opposites attract, than this is a story that needs to be on your radar because Nadia Lee really brings in the humor just write to balance in perfectly with a sexy romp of a read.

First Line
I'll Show Him

The Main Protagonists
The Hero: Emmett Lasker
Billionaire CEO of finance, one of the Lasker Brothers, smart and cunning in business and a bit of a workaholic.

The Heroine: Amy
Amy is driven, independent, and has a caring nature and devoted to her father.

Summary
Amy is a driven workaholic but her boss drives her crazy with all of his demands and long hours that he expects. He has a level of confidence that borders on conceit and even though at times she finds him charming, she also finds him insufferable and makes her want to explode at times. When she catches him masturbating to thinking of her, well one action leads to another and they have hot sex in his office. At first, Amy thinks its just a fling and very casual, but things starts to get more serious especially when she finds out that she is pregnant. But Amy has a plan, and now her plans are a hot mess because she is falling hard for Emmett and doesn't know if she can trust this man with her heart...

What I Loved
I had such a blast with this book, it was just fun to read. And sometimes you just want to immerse yourself in a fun sexy read that has little depth and just entertains for a while. And that is what I found with this one. It was completely different from "Contractually Yours". This was a true rom com feel so some readers might be thrown off by this one. But I found it lively and entertaining. Does that make it a perfect read? haha definitely not. However, I think I was in just the right frame of mind to really enjoy this one like I wanted to. I also found that this one really portrayed a story that just worked for me in many respects. I wasn't a fan of the heroine at times though and the way that the third act was executed could have been done better in my opinion. I actually fell so hard for the hero, he was a delight. But the way that the heroine was going to betray him just because of her sign on bonus was weird to me. And she didn't do ANY grovel. Like come on, while the hero isn't perfect, you also wronged him girl. But alas, what I wanted for this story didn't quite happen. However, I truly enjoyed this book and very eager for the next one.

What I Struggled With
I mostly struggled with the heroine in this book. From what I have seen so far, the heroes that this author writes are just delightful to read. But the heroine was a piece of work at times. The whole is basically about her planning to betray him and go to another company even after they get together. Like what girl? Seriously? And the reason behind it was strange. And the way she acts in the third act conflict didn't quite match up either to the way that the relationship was going. She blew a gasket over something that didn't make sense in the end. The poor hero, he was just as clueless as I felt haha

Overall View
Despite some issues, I found myself being entertained from beginning to end with this one and I can't wait to get to the other brothers!

Steam/Spice Explanations

Simmering cup of tea---soft warm touches and light intimacy
Warmin' by the fire- a medium level of sexual tension, a balance of sexual and emotional intimacy, lighter on the details in the sexual moments.
Steamin' up the room -the sexual content is more explicit in the language and tone, heavier amount of sexual scenes.
Blazing fire to the building-The prime focus is the sex scenes, scorching hot, and could burn one. Less focus on the emotional intimacy to the relationship.

They had sex after h broke up with her boyfriend not less than an hour ago. And H is aware of her (ex)boyfriend but isn't aware that they've already broken up. They had sex with the H knowing she was in a relationship but that didn't stop him??? (even though she already broke up with her boyfriend, he wasn't aware of that)

I made it to 29% and couldn't take it anymore. She's working for a boss hole who is secretly sabotaging her evenings, weekends, etc so she can't be with her boyfriend. The boyfriend is trying to become famous via Instagram and apparently looks like a horse.

She is a Harvard educated woman who is with this said loser because......... Shes dumb as sh$t? what the forkity? Biiiiiigggggggggggg sighs from me yall. That made no sense to me that a smart as a whip woman would be with someone that she didn't even want to spend time with 😐😐😐😐😐🤔

So one night when the boss finally makes her mad enough, she walks in on him steoking himself saying her name. She had broken up with horsey bf about 2 minutes ago and then her and the boss are going at it. 😐😐😐😐😐😐😐

I know the author might have been trying to make her seem like bf was a non starter and not even worthy of respect but this just made the h a effing ho and biatch to me. Damn, you can at least wait a day to eff someone else after a breakup jaysus. Ew.

H talks to ex bf like he's a horse to.....make fun of him? I found very cringy and like, not hot (imagine Paris Hilton here)

Then she basically is internal monologue ing herself to death til I couldn't take anymore.

BUT I predict......that she gets pregnant.....and they live happily ever after 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔 eff, this book was annoying af 😂

If someone feels like the book gets better, please fill me in. But this raring of above 4 stars perplexes me 🤔😐

I loved this. This is a very rare 5 star 🌟 read for me.
The heroine rambles in her head and I'm not a fan of inner monologue but it was hilarious.
The Hero means well but is so business focus he can't see someone else's POV.
The reader is introduced to his brothers which sets up the series, they have a texting group which carries on throughout the series and is hilarious.

At the start the heroine has a boyfriend, but they end before anything happens with the Hero.
The Hero has dated but its very vague.
There is other man drama, heroine's ex and an offer for the Hero which causes issues but he isn't interested.

HEA.
Breadcrumbs dropped for future books in series, its probably best to read series in order.

“I am not confused. Just like you have definite ideas about how a fling should go, I also have definite ideas about how my baby should be raised.” “Which is…?” “In a household. With two parents. Who are married.”

It was okay, not that good but not bad either. Everything was light hearted and there was a medicore chemistry between Emmett & Amy. It was an accidental pregnancy book but nothing about the baby was highlighted. If fact Amy got pregnant after 50% of the book. The epilogue was lackluster tbh but the story kept me engaged.

Mi-a plăut cartea.

So Bad

I’m sorry but this book was horrible. It was boring, with very stupid miscommunication, and was not believable. These characters are supposed to be very smart but Emmett didn’t understand that Amy would be upset by the stuff his Father said? Amy didn’t get that going to work for that particular competitor was going to upset Emmett? The chemistry between the two was about as exciting as a PowerPoint presentation to announce a pregnancy. There was no spice and no emotion but all of a sudden they love each other. I just didn’t like it. At all.

He's a self described moron

I like a good workplace enemies-to-lovers romance, but this isn't it. The main male character says it all when he thinks to himself "you're a moron", and unfortunately he isn't the only one

Spoiler alert:

First of all, the MMC's backstory is ridiculous. His father is a rich Hollywood chauvinist misogynistic moron in his own right. After a failed vasectomy he has seven women pregnant all at one time, and has seven sons born within weeks of one another. He has nothing to do with mothers or children except the throw money at them. He sends all of the boys to boarding school in Switzerland when they're three, and all of the mothers meekly go along with it and move there themselves. Our story picks up when the sons are thirty-ish, and they all still apparently dance to their father's tune by showing up when he demands it, even though most of them are successful in their own right, even to the point of being billionaires. This is a father who decides he wants a grandchild, not for any legitimate reason, but out of competition with an acquaintance, so he sends each of his sons a hooker to procreate with . Meanwhile, our main male character has the secret hots for our main female character, and makes her work life miserable by his manipulative behavior. She's determined to find a new job because of her "bosshole", who she despises but is of course hopelessly attracted to. One late night tryst leads to her deciding to have a sex-only fling since her job has, in her mind, an expiration date. Clueless Emmett is now ready to move her in and go full steam ahead. Fast forward to a pregnancy (surprise!) Meanwhile, the moron hasn't a clue why his pregnant girlfriend gets cold feet after attending his father's (see chauvinistic misogynistic moron, above) debauchery of a birthday party. He literally tells his brothers that he has no idea why she would be upset at the idea of having a child that would be exposed to this kind of lifestyle. But, all is not lost, they kiss and makeup, he suddenly grows a pair and cuts his father out of his life, they get married, have a honeymoon, have a baby, and surprise (!) another pregnancy in the epilogue.

This is the first in a series, I assume each of the manchild brothers will get a happily-ever-after, but I don't care to read them.

irritating heroine

I just could not stand her. So whinny, blind to things right in front of her and a master at jumping to conclusions that make no sense from the context of the conversation or situation.

i don’t know how to talk about this book, like seriously?

first off: in the plot we already know she’s gonna be pregnant, ok? so normal people would expect the MCs to discover it in the first half of the book, right? RIGHT??? NO, we come to know it at like 60% of the book!

then: the development of the main characters? inexistent!!! but also their behaviour, i don’t know it’s not well explained or consistent throughout the book, the only consistent thing in the book is Amy hearing something and not talking to Emmet about it, like gurl??? and their daddy and mommy issues??? discarded like they’re nothing and didn’t mess up the two, okkk

i think i have more to say but right now i’m at a loss of words

2 stars because the story had potential but wasn’t developed well enough

I have no clue how I ended up downloading this book on KU, but I really liked it. I usually find book titles and covers like this really cheesy, but thought, why not? I literally couldn’t put it down. I loved Amy and Emmett so much! I love the office romance trope. And I guess I’m starting to not dislike accidental pregnancy tropes either. Thought the dads bday party thing was strange, but I really liked this book!

Entertaining and tons of fun.

This hot little number is a romantic comedy genius. It is the perfect blend of romance, comedy and heat. It was highly energetic and fun to read. I loved the characters and their personalities. The interactions between them is spot on and they mesh well together. I enjoyed every page and had so much fun reading it. I will definitely keep reading this series.

3.5 stars for this one, my first by this author.

On the positive it was a great read, well plotted and with an interesting cast of secondary characters.

Emmett the H and Amy the h had chemistry which was off the charts and things fired off and a missing condom and whoops a baby.
Emmett the Bosshole of the title actually wasn't too bad as the story developed a workaholic yes but in love with Amy.
Amy was driven and in general a well rounded character.
They were mature characters who dealt with things maturely - refreshing.

Family dynamics were a hoot and I feel a series coming on.
Emmett's father - what a piece of work. I think he would have been nicely paired with Amy's mother.
And Amy's dad and Emmett's mum- now that's an idea.

An enjoyable read, it dragged a bit in the middle for me but that was me I think.

Highly recommended for a well written well plotted fun read.
