A.D Jones lives in the North of England; where he spends his time favouring books over people and can be found writing or devouring said books to review online. He loves Cola, Twin Peaks, cult movies and all things horror. He dislikes the movie ‘The Karate Kid’ with a passion that burns brighter than the sun.
OMG!!! I ABSOLUTELY LOVE, LOVE ,LOVED THIS BOOK OF SHORT STORIES, AN ABSOLUTELY AMAZING, GRIPPING AND PAGE TURNING EXPLOSIVE MUST READ!! PERFECT FOR HALLOWEEN!! ONE OF THE BEST, CHILLING AND DISTURBING HORROR ANTHOLOGIES I HAVE EVER READ!! AD JONES DOES IT AGAIN!!
OMFG!!!! WTF!?? JUST WOW!!! Just flipping wow!!!! What another absolutely epic page turner!!! Well done to Judith Crow on an absolutely incredible book!!
This is the third book I have read by this extremely talented author. I have also read 'Sacrificial Waters' and 'Little Horn' which I would also highly recommend!!
This book is very well written with vivid descriptions that absolutely grip the readers attention and puts them right in the middle of it all making your heart pound and you constantly second guessing.
An addictive and horrific collection of 15 short stories filled with the supernatural, warnings, secrets, mysteries, horror and absolutely everything you could ask for in a gripping page turner plus so very much more!!!!. As I always do with books of short stories or poems I will say a bit about them individually and then give an overall rating at the end. These are the stories that are included in order, a short description of what they are about:
🚉Midnight In the Subway: John is waiting for his train on the subway when a tapping noise starts to irritate him. He goes to lookg for the source just to discover he has been locked in with the rest of the commuters. The train eventually arrives but things go from bad to worse in this nightmare journey. Filled with gore and more this story gets a 5/5 from me.
🧛♂️In Conversation With The Dead: Marcus and Callum are searching a canal for one of the many messing teenagers in the area but only Marcus comes back up from the canal. What he seen down there comes back to haunt him in his own home. An interesting tale to sink your teeth into. 4/5
🏚The House Provides: Robbie and Dale go into their local "haunted house" to search for a missing boy called Bradley. They find what they are looking for and more than they bargained for but will they be able to leave or are they destined for the same as Bradley? This story gets a 4/5 from me.
🤕A Steady Constant: Josh picks up a bargain when he is at a sale with his friend Mike but he manages to injure himself using it. After that he feels pain over and over again. How much can he cope with? A 4/5 from me
✍️Pen Me A Nightmare: Colin is an author who was struggling with a story until a meeting changes not only his life but that of the world around him. This was definitely one of my favourite short stories of this book and gets top marks 5/5!!
♻️Swap Meet: Clarissa and Brandon meet Rebecca at a swap meet. She offers to sell them LEGO but they get much more than that!!
👻The Reunion: Martin is giving out sweets on Halloween when he spots a child dressed as a ghost lingering around. He tries to put them out of his mind but still worries. A sad and haunting story but one filled with consequences. Another favourite of mine.
🧙♀️Invitation To Dinner: Our protagonist comes out of darkness and discovers women chanting in the woods. When a fable is spotted dinner seems to be served. I wasnt a fan of this one. 2/5
🐺The Tourist: Jonathan is a werewolf sent to find the new pup in town. This one was interesting but not one of the best. 3/5
🤡Incarnate: Paul is with his friends to go to visit the local carnival. Paul does not want to go as he has a phobia of clowns but he goes anyway for his friends. However his fears come to life when he spots a clown and things go from bad to worse very quickly. Not one for anyone with a fear of clowns but one of my favourites 5/5.
🔪A Lamb To the Slaughter: When the 'Pinky Prowler' meets his copy cat killer he is not happy with their work and he is not the only one!! 5/5
⛸️A Cold Shoulder: Declan lost his twin brother Simon a year ago when the family decide to go ice-skating. What Declan sees will put him off ice-skating for a while and makes him question the good twin/bad twin theory
👼Kara: A letter from a "good" girl. Unfortunately not one for me at all. Read with caution as it may trigger upset but can't say what without giving anything away. 1/5
☕️Swallow Your Pride: Melissa gets kidnapped after an interaction at a coffee shop but she's not the only one. It goes to show looks can be deceiving. 3/5 from me.
🌲And I Would've Gotten Away With It Too: I actually read this story previously as it is also included in 'Violent Advents' which is another horror anthology edited by another amazing horror author L.Stephenson which I would highly recommend! Jason, Rob and Freya go to see if their friends bought a tree from Mulvaneys farm before they went missing but get more than they expect. 4/5
An absolutely amazing collection of dark, disturbing, gory, ghostly, suspenseful and tension packed short stories each filled with horror and PERFECT for this time of year with Halloween just around the corner!!! A fantastic collection of short stories with an excellent range of situations, characters, locations and narratives. My favourites were definitely 'Midnight In the Subway', 'Pen Me A Nightmare', 'The Reunion' and 'Incarnate'. Grab your copy to discover yours!!
These stories include suspense, horror, tension, murder, death, betrayal, revenge, fear, the supernatural and much more! There is a great mix of stories so there is definitely something in there for everyone. This book is ideal to be able to pick up and read a story during a break or while making a cuppa!! I would probably avoid reading them as a bedtime story though!!! I am a huge fan of horror stories and the gorier the better for me!!! The excellent descriptions throughout ensures you feel the hair raising on your arms and the chill on your skin!!! The fact that these are short stories also allows you to pick it up and read a story at a time or read it in one sitting which is perfect for those who like to read multiple books at one time. AD Jones has absolutely amazing writing skills and an incredible imagination and I cannot wait to read more of her books!!
Grab your copy of 'Deathbed Confessions' and discover which stories you love!!! This is why you are one of my favourite horror authors AD Jones and I cannot wait to sink my teeth into more of your books!!
Overall an amazing selection of creepy, horror, gothic and suspense filled stories with something for everyone!!
A.D Jones is an auto-read author for me. He writes it, I'll read it. When I found out he had a collection of short stories coming out, I had to weasel my way in there and score an early read.
The collection itself is a wonderful blend of all different kinds of horror. It kicks off strong and doesn't let up. The stories are entertaining, compelling and outright delicious. Most of them work well as standalone stories, but there are a few in there that left me craving more. More lore, more of certain characters or more of the world that was built up. And I will be peer-pressuring Jones about this in hopes that he'll give in to my greedy desires.
This collection is a fantastic way to see that Jones really does have a nice big, juicy talent for writing, and he's waving it right in your face. Most anthologies and short story collections have stories that hit and ones that miss, but this one just kept on hitting. Absolutely solid collection. You don't wanna miss it.
A.D Jones has a marvellous talent for scaring the shit out of me.
This collection has a variety of stories. From light spooky tales, thoughtful moments that leave you curious, dark humour, absolute terror, and all things beyond human comprehension. Vampires, clowns, deals with The Devil, a hankering for meat! You name it, you got it. There's something for every type of horror lover in this collection.
The stories are so well written, so vivid, that it's hard not to feel the emotions of the characters. The first story in particular left me feeling claustrophobic! And while I have a love for all things circus and clowns, that story still freaked me out! The story that has stayed close to me throughout is story two: the one including the vampire... I love a good giggle through the horrors!
A spine-chilling book that is sure to haunt you long into the night. A.D Jones has put a quirky and unique touch on some of the most popular tropes in the horror genre, which make up a fantastic collection.
This smorgasbord of snackable scares shows that AD Jones is just as effective in a shorter form as he is with his terrifying longer works. Blood, gore, killers, chatty vampires, creepy clowns and much more reside in these tales - they’re a blast from first to last.
A.D Jones knocks it out of the park in this spectacular collection of 15 unsettling tales that encompass a menagerie of creepy and weird subjects. (My personal favourite was Swallow your pride.) I am very impressed with the uniqueness of each tale and the way that Jones can make each character distinguishable from the others. I would highly recommend this to any lover of horror and the macabre and would put it forward as a first taste for those wanting to try the genre. This corpse has plenty of meat on it for all of us, so chew on these bones and expand your pallet.
~ I was lucky enough to receive an early ARC review copy in return for an honest review ~
Written with powerful spine-chilling imagery that has you wondering if that creak in your house is really just a noise, you’d wish you’d read this haunting collection of stories with the light on! Surrender to A.D Jones’s suspenseful writing and be prepared to be whisked from one hair-raising episode to the next, with stories that have you questioning what lurks in the shadows and whether you can really trust what lingers in the dark.
'Midnight in the subway' was a favorite of mine; nothing quite beats a horror that has a twisty end that has you questioning what you’ve just read. The build up to the climax was masterful, with dark imagery that left me haunted. Featuring a train ride to hell, it’s one journey that you’ll be glad you were just a spectator.
Moving onto 'In conversation with the dead' shows that A.D Jones is able to write just as elegantly witty engaging dialogue as he is suspenseful scenes. With an eerie opening, it explores the traditional aspects of vampirism in a neat bite sized piece.
From haunted houses where evil can be human just as well as supernatural, to clowns, serial killers and slasher-film esq horror; this book is a rollercoaster of horror – each individual story bringing something new and packing just as equal a punch. I enjoyed the way the stories appeared to span across the seasonal year (I’m unsure if this was intentional but it was an enjoyable feature!) – featuring Halloween towards the end and ending on Christmas; perfect for those mood readers amongst us.
AD Jones has packed together a powerful collection of short stories in Deathbed-Confessionals that are reminiscent of Stephen King’s suspenseful writing, and R.L Stine’s relatable characters. And yet, he has a unique voice that will have you huddling under a blanket, wishing you turned on the light as his words whisk you away to a horrific land of nightmares.
I'm so grateful that I got to read this early as an ARC copy, thank you!
Deathbed Confessionals is an ARC read opportunity I randomly stumbled upon and I am so incredibly happy that I did! This book is full of 15 short horror stories which are in a lot of ways some of my favourite books to pick up.
The author has managed to create short horror stories that will stick with you and creep you out in ways you wouldn't expect.
I always completely admire authors that can pull you in with short stories and multiple ones at that, while keeping you reading as you only have so far to go with them and they need to be good to keep your attention and none of these disappointed.
Every story came from different angles about different topics some I didn't even expect to have a scary twist at all and one in particular was oddly my very obscure childhood fear.
If you're someone who wants to get in the spooky season spirit or want something to help get you out of a reading slump. Tip from me short stories are a great way to get out of a slump! Pick up your copy on October 1st! My personal favourite stories are below. •Midnight In The Subway •A Lamb to the Slaughter •Kara •Swallow Your Pride •And I Would've Gotten Away With It Too...
Synopsis: A number of supernatural horror sub genres are represented here. Demons, ghosts, vampires, werewolves, and witches all get at least one tale in this anthology. Cosmic horror and cursed items receive some love too. There’s also several slasher stories to enjoy. Admittedly, I’m not sure what preexisting sub genre “Kara” fits into. Could be in a category all its own.
Thoughts: A few of these tales have been previously published. The still excellent “Steady Constant” is the only one I’ve read before, however. Other favorites from this collection are “Midnight in The Subway”, “The House Provides”, “Pen Me a Nightmare”, and “Swallow Your Pride”. All the stories in Deathbed Confessionals are very well written, though.
Reader Advisory: Numerous instances of gruesome death and gory dismemberment take place in this book. There is also a brief mention of SA.
Recommendations: Fans of supernatural horror in general will probably find a favorite tale or two in this collection. The antagonist in “Incarnate” might invoke memories of a certain clown from the Spawn franchise. The slasher sub genre is also given a good showing.
AD Jones has done it once again… An autobuy author for me and this collection is no exception…
A variety of stories with something for most horror readers- the dark, to the twisty, to turning tropes on their heads.
It’s kinda become tradition for me to review anthologies and collections by sharing my instantaneous reactions so here it goes in no particular order…
💀Humans- always the real horrors 💀Kids- creepy AF 💀Turning the trope on its head 💀Really really love this one 💀Nightmare fuel… also eyes 🤢 💀F*ck 💀Who am I? What am I? Oooo flesh… 💀Edged again 💀Bloody clowns 😱 💀Clever twist on a favourite trope 💀What the F is about right?! Insidious and twisting 💀This one gave me chills and may be my favourite 💀Do vampires get lonely? 💀Kids 😱 💀Actual chills
If this hasn’t intrigued you enough- go check out the reviews! What I adore about Jones writing is that he is respectful of the classic horror tropes, whilst putting his own unique spin on them. From lovecraftian monster horror to not just another werewolf story via a lot of twists and turns. This is a fun, easy to read, horrifying (in all the best ways) collection of horror.
Cannot wait to see what he does next

A.D. Jones is an autoread author for me, I have loved everything I've read by them and this one is no different!
This collection comprises of 15 short stories covering a host of horror tropes including - vampires, werewolves, clowns, etc with plenty blood and gore throughout. There is something for absolutely everyone! A few of my favourite were.....
Incarnate - a group of friends visiting a carnival. One of tbe boys is terrified of clowns and he had every right to be this night. Reminiscent of IT, I loved it! Tension galore.
The Reunion- this one was sad. A father giving out sweets on Halloween spots a wee ghost that is all alone. Heart touching.
Swap meet - a couple at a car boot (or equivalent) when woman offers to sell them Lego and feed them dinner. She didn't mean literally feed then....
That's just a few of the stories, pick up a copy to read these and more in this fantastic collection.
I was gripped by Little Horn from the same author, so it was exciting to be able to get back into their head with this little novella. This had a little bit of everything to suit all horror readers, vampires, werewolves, paranormal and pure brutality for an example!
I stick by my opinion that A.D Jones is a very talented author, his descriptions are so vivid he can really get under your skin and have you feeling all the emotions. This book was tense, spooky, eerie and atmospheric, each little story packed a punch in their own way.
I’d say this would be the ideal book for anyone wanting to explore the horror genre and may be unsure of just how dark they’d like to go. So it’s safe to say this was another enjoyable read by this author, and perfect for the cold, dark evenings!
So I’m just going to say it, I absolutely love this author! This is a fabulous collection of short stories which in turn creeped me out, made me cringe, and some of them made me think I should not be reading these before I go to sleep. There are fifteen stories altogether, and each one scares you in a different way, playing on a variety of fears you didn’t know you had. My particular favourites were Pen Me A Nightmare, The Reunion and Incarnate. Although some of the stories do have an American vibe, this just made them all the more interesting to me, quite different from what I’ve read by him before. For me, A D Jones is at the top of his game and definitely one of my favourite horror writers.
What a bloody (no pun intended) brilliant set of short stories! I’ve read one of AD Jones’ books before a while back, which I loved, but I’m always a bit unsure going into sets of short stories (is that an anthology? Idk), but Deathbed Confessionals really did meet alllll my expectations (and now I may need to read alllll of Jones’ books).
I genuinely enjoyed all of the stories (which isn’t an easy feat, considering there are 15 !!!), with a brilliant variety of different types of horror, tropes and storylines! My only criticism is that a few of the stories I REALLYYYY wanted to be longer (I know that’s not how short stories work but STILL), I guess it just means I should go and read more of Jones’ books asap really…
This was a great read. I enjoyed the varying scenarios in each short story. A.D has a way of writing great descriptive scenes, making it easy for the reader to imagine. although I would have like to see a bit more horror/gruesome parts, it was still an enjoyable read. Some stories were better than others but all in all, I definitely recommend this one, especially if you want to start out on your horror story journey.
thanks for the opportunity to read this before release.
Jones gathers some of your favorite horror tropes and throws them into a blender to offer something dark, gross, and somehow refreshing all at once.
The highlight to this collection is not just his ability and talent as a writer, but the curated variety of short stories offered on this charcuterie board of horrors.
This is great as a bedside read where you might like to read one story before bed each night.
A collection of scary stories where humans can be as monstrous as the ghouls, werewolves and vampires.
Such a fun collection of tales that are perfect for spooky season. A civilised vampire who just wants a chat could be good although I'm not sure how trustworthy they'd be. I quite liked that story although, to be fair, I actually quite liked them all. They're all so very different with a different horror within reminding us of the things that might have given us goosebumps as kids. I liked how the train journey started us off and I felt like I knew where it was going but still enjoyed the ride. The Christmassy tale was fun too and reminds us there's safety in numbers!
a anthology of spooky scares. The author transports you into feeling the same emotions as the characters. Even though its short stories, they each pack a punch. There is something for every level of horror lovers! Perfect to check out for spooky season!
I absolutely love this author and when I spotted this new release coming our way, I just had to grab and devour it.
This is a collection of short stories, which I was not expecting to see, but absolutely loved, because this meant that I could slot this in-between my other reads on the schedule.
Now, I'm actually not sure how I thought I'd manage this, but I read this over a few days, expecting to spread it out and read one story every lunchtime - I failed!
I totally caved one day and just finished the book of on day 5! I was just enjoying myself too much!
I've read a little bit of everything from this author already and so knew that these short stories would be great, but as ever, I was shocked by just how much was fitted into each story.
It was easy to immerse myself into them despite being only a few pages long.
There was a diverse range of themes and topics included in this collection and I loved that each story brought us something completely new.
Obviously though, all of them giving me chills!
This author really knows how to create a spooky atmosphere and the writing style provides such clear and vivid images as we read.
A great book to read through this spooky season - but honestly, I could read this author at any time of the year!
A great read and I'm excited to see what's coming out way next....
🖤 Fifteen bites of terror, tragedy, and twisted delight 🖤
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
“Some confessions should be taken to the grave… others claw their way back out.”
If horror is best served short, sharp, and shocking, then Deathbed Confessionals is truly a feast. A. D. Jones delivers 15 dark morsels—each one distinct, disturbing, and devilishly moreish. What binds them together is the author’s flair for vivid imagery and unsettling atmosphere; even the briefest of tales feels fully formed, like the flickers of a nightmare caught on the page.
Midnight in the Subway opens the collection with a gut punch of a story—claustrophobic, deathly, and impossible to look away from as the inevitable unfolds. In Conversation with the Dead is a standout: an introspective, almost melancholic vampire tale that feels achingly human. I was so drawn in by this charismatic character and his POV; I could happily have settled down with a full novel.
Then comes The House Provides, which oozes dread and decay, followed by A Steady Constant—a quietly devastating portrayal of chronic pain that cut far too close to home. Pen Me a Nightmare is pure brilliance: a Faustian fever dream that unspools with sinister precision.
Some stories lean into the grotesque (Swap Meet, Invitation to Dinner), others into emotional unease (Kara broke me, while Cold Shoulder chilled me). The Reunion is perfect Halloween reading—eerily nostalgic—while The Tourist twists the werewolf trope in a refreshing, almost poetic way.
By the time I reached A Lamb to the Slaughter, I was breathless. It’s vicious, beautiful, and entirely unforgettable. And then there’s Swallow Your Pride—a delicious slice of justice, equal parts horrifying and satisfying. The final story, And I Would’ve Gotten Away With It Too..., ends things with a blood-splattered wink and a wicked sense of humour.
Jones' style of writing balances gore with heart, darkness with irony. The tone shifts between introspection and carnage, but the craftsmanship never falters. Each story earns its place, and together they form a symphony of horror that lingers long after the last confession.
Verdict: A darkly addictive anthology—intelligent, visceral, and emotionally charged. Perfect for readers who like their horror quick, cruel, and quietly clever.
Here is my review for Deathbed Confessionals by A,D.Jones
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this short story horror anthology which was a superb offering and I never knew what was coming in the next story apart from it was going to be something that I would enjoy. The great thing with this book was that as they were short stories you could read the book all in one sitting or just dip in and out, you still felt the greatness of the author behind the story. The stories were all different and were well written. They had been well thought out and the layout of the stories had been well plotted for maximum effect. The characters were well thought out and played their parts well. The author seemed to have some great ideas for horror stories for his book which impressed me. I have read this author before and I appreciate his books as I enjoy reading them. I’m looking forward to reading more of his books in the future.

Deathbed Confessionals is a fantastic collection of short stories that truly showcase how A D Jones is a master of their craft. On top of this we have a fantastic variation of stories within the horror genre and dare I say that Jones excels at them all. Sometimes you will find that authors either excel at short or long form novels but sometimes not both, not so here. Each tale fits perfectly within the length, standalone and complete. Would I have liked more? Or to see certain characters again? Most definitely but I adored what we did get.
For me what I love about Jones is as someone who consumes a lot of horror media be it books, movies, tv shows or games I can very easily get freaked out, even scared by Jones’ writing. He manages to bring horror to life with a realism that makes it impossible to not get immersed. I personally think for horror to work you have to be immersed or invested, usually in the characters, either the good or the bad, and this is another area that Jones excels in.
I won’t spoil any story but I will say this is a must read for fans of the horror genre. You are sure to find at least one story that you will love but I dare say you will love all of them. As always thank you to Zooloo’s Book Tours for the copy to review. My review is always honest, truthful and freely given.
I'm reviewing this as part of a tour with Zooloo's Book Tours.
This is a book of short horror stories. I've read a few other books by this author and enjoyed them, which is why I was interested in this. I like this author's style of storytelling, and their ability to bring a scene to life. With each story, I felt the characters were presented in an interesting way, and some of the scenarios presented were relatable in some kind of bizarre way.
All of these stories were chilling little page-turners, and this book turned out to be a fun spine-tingling read. I enjoyed all of them, but the stories that I found most chilling were “Pen Me A Nightmare” and “Invitation To Dinner”, as I found them to be more unsettling in a psychological way.
These stories were short, spooky and satisfying. A collection of short horror reads is especially satisfying around Halloween, particularly if you don't want to commit to a long read or don't have the time for one.
Thank you to Zooloo's Book Tours, and to the author and publisher, for the opportunity to read and review this.
This book really has a bit of everything when it comes to horror. From the classic British humour that AD Jones so often brings to the table to some of the most disturbing short stories I've read in a long time, I just loved every second of this. This is certainly my favourite work of AD Jones so far. I particularly enjoyed The House Provides, A Steady Constant and An Invitation to Dinner. If you're a horror fan then don't miss this collection!
A collection of short stories perfect for autumnal creepy nights. Stories that had me looking over my shoulder and keeping the lights on longer. These tales will creep you out and some are scary and disturbing, I certainly won’t be going to investigate any creepy houses 😳. If you like horror then AD Jones writes really good books, this book gives a taster of that, each book plays on different fears and certainly packs a punch.
𝐃𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐛𝐞𝐝 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐟𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥𝐬 is a collection of 15 creepy short stories, that really show off Jones’s great writing skills. The characters feel real, vivid imagery, and there’s a great mix of blood, dark humor and emotion.
It kicks off strong with one of my favorites in this collection, 𝐌𝐢𝐝𝐧𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐈𝐧 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐒𝐮𝐛𝐰𝐚𝐲 - making me feel very claustrophobic! And from there, it’s unease and eeriness until the final page.
Jones invites you into his world of horrors, where his words are the footsteps behind you, his stories are the breath down your neck, and his imagination is the nightmare waiting for you in the dark…
