2nd Edition of Coach's Pass. Updated version with expanded text.
Expect an Erotic Romance with a HFN!Jackson Hicks
D1 football isn't for amateurs. I’m the hotshot Senior QB at Lake University in Minneapolis, my last chance to claim the national title, a shot at finally making my father proud. My head is completely clear until Austin’s dad takes over as our head coach. His sexy silver fox of a father completely messes up my routine, those sturdy biceps bringing up ludicrous desires I thought were long buried, making it impossible to forget about my daddy issues. Every moment we spend together, I lose control of myself. Who I thought I was supposed to be.
Who the hell would be rooting for a queer quarterback?
Brad Schmidt
I'm returning to Minneapolis to be closer to family. A divorce can really mess up your kid’s heads. They need their grandparents close by as they grow up. Plus, I get to coach my son in his last season, making sure to increase his draft stock as much as I can. Everything is going according to plan until I meet Jackson Hicks.
I expected the cheerleaders to give me a run for my money, not the quarterback.
I LOVED EVERY MOMENT OF THIS BOOK! This forbidden age-gap M/M Sports Romance had my heart for Jackson and Coach Schmidt! The story follows Jackson is the hot shot quarterback, and Coach Schmidt is the silver fox coach, who happens to be his best friend’s father. They both know it’s a line they can’t cross, but will that stop them? A steamy M/M Romance that you need to read!
Jackson isn't the only one worried about ending up pregnant like those male frogs 😉
Jackson is a young, straight, talented quarterback playing his last year of college football before the pro draft. Coach is a recently divorced older man with 3 kids. His oldest also happens to be Jackson's best friend. Coach is moving to a new state with his 2 younger daughters to be closer to his parents and son and to coach him for his last year. Jackson, who was recently cheated on for the second time by his girlfriend, starts to question if he might actually be the problem, maybe he isn't enough. Along with suffering severe emotional abuse as a child from the hands of his father, all Jackson has ever strived for is to feel loved and approved of. He first sees Coach on a TV interview and feels an attraction to him that is confusing but hard to ignore. When Jackson and Coach then first meet in person, the attraction is instant and sparks fly. But with Coach having a very lucrative contract with university that would be void if a relationship with a student were revealed and being Jackson's best friends dad, as well as Jackson having a homophonic asshole of a father they need to keep their budding start on the DL. While sneeking around, they both discover in each other peices to help make each of them whole. They way they come together and complement each other is truly beautiful. Jackson, a big alpha athlete, can dominate on the field and then completely submit to Coach in the bedroom. Coach knows exactly what his good boy needs, to help when Jackson is feeling vulnerable and needy, bringing out the protective, nurturing nature in Coach. With their happily ever after, they show that gender is never a factor in falling in love, it's the heart and soul beneath the surface that connects you to the other half of your soul. Jackson and Coach were always meant to be, and I'm so glad they got their happily ever after. This story was sweet and endearing, pulling all my heart strings. The spice was amazing! The way Coach praises his boy and gives him everything he needs, set my panties on fire! My only complaint is I wish the story was longer! I could easily have read 300 pages about this couple.
This book gives from the beginning with it's forbidden, slow-burn tension. The golden quarterback falling for his best friend's father - the silver fox that is now the new head coach. Add in all the risks (A university contract at stake, a homophobic parent - we don't get graphic there by the way and a son caught in the middle). You know this book wants to deliver drama, heat and emotions.
Jackson, the star quarterback, isn't always easy to love. Especially at the very beginning. He is vain, self-centered and constantly reminding us how much better he is than everyone else on the field (and off). I rolled my eyes a few times at his "me-me-me" attitude, but as the story progressed, he grew into someone more thoughtful, vulnerable and endearing. His journey felt real, messy, frustrating and rewarding.
Brad, on the other hand, stole the show. He's a devoted father, freshly divorced and tries to make things right with his kids, even though he doesn't necessarily succeed all the time. I connected more with his POV chapters. He is mature, self-aware and his protective and nurturing nature made him a strong counterpoint to the impulsiveness that is Jackson. Together, they complimented each other in ways that surprised me.
Their chemistry was golden. From Jackson's humor when comparing himself to male frogs getting pregnant to the praise kink and the tenderness Brad showed him. The balance between spice and sweetness was great. My only complaint is that some tropes (i.e. the cheating ex) felt too predictable. I would have loved more originality in those moments.
In the end, I have to say that this was a short, fun, steamy and heartfelt read about growth, second chances and finding love in unexpected places (because let's be real, the love was unexpected - if not for us readers, definitely for our main characters). This was my first MM sports romance, and if you also enjoy these books with a splash of forbidden edge and lots of heat then this is a read worth picking up.
A fun debut novel from Eric with a coach finding his match in his starting quarterback. Jackson is the starting QB for his D1 team and when his new coach starts, who also happens to be his best friends dad, his world is turned upside down. Coach Schmidt is starting over coaching his son's final year of college ball and freshly divorced. When his and Jackson's worlds collide, the draw is immediate, the tension palpable. Overall a fun kick off to the start of this series, would have liked some of it to be drawn out more. At times throughout felt rushed and you didn't get to see the full impact of their relationship and how it affected everyone. Will be happy to read future works from this author to see how they develop. For a debut it was well done and worth the chance of reading.
3.25 stars 🤍 i’m not even kidding yall i had to take .25 off this rating because of my visceral reaction to how many times “his meat” was said, and yes in that context. as well as the sentence “undies caked in precum” i hated it here in that moment. THAT being said, this was a fast enjoyable read though the writing was a bit clunky BUT im not going to be too harsh about that cause this is an indie debut and writing is not an easy feat. i think there’s definitely potential i just couldn’t see the connection between our mc’s. like i saw the vision but it fell a bit flat for me, the sex scenes were pretty decent tho, and i think those would be hard to write. the next book has tropes more up my alley and i think i might have a better time with that one
Jackson Hicks is a QB with a girlfriend but he keeps having fantasy's about Coach Brad Schmidt also know as his best friends Austin's dad. When he catches her cheating on him he hopes that he can make the fantasy a reality.
The 2 MMC worked well together. I would have happily read a few more chapters. Here's hoping that we get a little more of these 2 when we get Austin's book.
