No Backup Plan

Rate this book
She has secrets. And he's just the guy to unravel them.

Tessa Sinclair’s future was so golden it glittered. Killer career. Corner office. Sterling reputation. Everything was oh-so easy…until it wasn’t.

Scalded by scandal, drop-kicked by karma, and tarnished like a knock-off tiara, Tessa is back to square one. Even worse, there’s no going back – not after that career-crashing spectacle or the infamous mini-bottle smash-and-grab on her way out the door.

A disaster? Definitely. And her backup plan? LOL. What backup plan?

Now she’s laying low on Michigan's Mackinac Island, pouring lattes instead of pitches, keeping her head down, her secrets close, and her tote bag of regrets mostly zipped. It’s fine. Really, it is…until Ryder Vaughn strolls in – a billionaire mischief-maker with a million wisecracks and zero shame. In other words? Trouble. And naturally, he wants answers she can’t quite give.

She doesn’t need his attention, much less protection from the shadows of her past. And the last thing she needs is a tempting troublemaker stirring up thoughts too crazy to ignore. Like…what if losing everything was the sweetest disaster of all?

***From a USA Today bestselling author, this laugh-out-loud romantic comedy delivers witty banter, small-town chaos, and steamy swoon plus a guaranteed happily-ever-after.

Billionaires on Main Street: No Backup Plan is the second in a series of funny contemporary romance novels set on Mackinac Island, where fudge is famous, cars are a no-go, and bicycles rule the road. The trilogy features three billionaire friends and the witty, wonderful women who steal their hearts. Each book can be read as a standalone.

No Limos Allowed (Maisie & Griff) – He’s not broke. She’s not fooled. Let the games begin.

No Backup Plan (Tessa & Ryder) – She came to disappear. He came to stir things up. Love wasn't part of the plan.

No Headlines Please (Delaney & Maddox) – Coming mid 2026.

If you like funny heroes, witty heroines, and steamy, small town romance, you'll love this series!

So much fun! So so good! I have read the first novel in this series and really enjoyed it. This novel did not disappoint. I was excited to jump back into this series and it did not let me down. From the first chapter this novel sucked me right back in and held on tight. I loved the dialogue and banter. Laugh out loud funny. I love a small town setting and I loved checking in with characters from the previous novel. I loved Tessa & Ryder's story. I loved watching them both lower their walls and defenses and fall in love. This novel took me on suck a wild ride and was so much fun to read. Once I started reading I could not put this novel down. I loved it! So so good!

First of all, the writing is good and there are some funny moments. However, it was unnecessarily long and because I didn't click with the book, I found it hard to maintain interest, even with (or maybe because of) the short chapters.

While I intellectually understand the reasoning and motivations given for Tessa's actions, I still found them unbelievable. Also, was she paying for anything while staying with Maisie? The scenes where Tessa and Delaney finally interact were a bit of a letdown for me.

Finally-- I would've avoided the "running from pygmies" joke and using the phrase "going native." It's 2026.

I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

It's hard to believe, that you have a good job for five years, no life outside of work and still you are broke? What did she do with her hard earned money? Vaughan was laughing all the time, and it was a bit much with all the inner thoughts, every time you expect a conversation, he or she had inner thoughts and you ask yourself what was the conversation about. It wasn't bad, but could be better. Finally the conversation happened and it was ok, a little confusion at times, it’s nice to be witty in a story but not so all the time. All in all it was ok.

Too long. The characters spoke in circles and were deliberately obtuse. While funny at first overall mostly annoying. All the additional prompts to finish each other’s thoughts every time was unnecessary. The story was a bit garbled in places so it didn’t make sense at times. Overall the story line was mostly there. The execution left me annoyed I stuck with finishing the book. I ended up skimming the last fourth of the book as I did want to know the ending but was too annoyed with the writing to actually read every word.

What an entertaining story. Tessa’s carefully planned life has just imploded- very publicly. Ryder is trying to rescue his friend. They end up on Mackinac Island. Makes me want to go back and read No Limos Allowed as the stories run in parallel. This small town has its share quirky characters to add to the fun. Tessa & Ryder have a bumpy ride for sure but it all works out in the end. But I sense more is coming. Maybe Delaney will get her own story.

3.5 stars.

I'll be honest and say that I wasn't sure if I should have read book one as at times I felt I was missing a thing or two, so wondered if that could be the reason... there were things that worked really well for me in this and others that either didn't hit the mark quite right with me or left me with questions. I am voluntarily leaving this review after receiving an ARC from Hidden Gems.

It was great to be back with these characters and on the island. Tessa’s blowup at the office was incredible funny. Then to have her run away to the island to be with Maise was great. Even funnier was her working as a barista at the coffee shop. Then along comes Ryder to throw a wrench into her hideout. The back and forth between the characters was so good. It gave you all the charm and energy that you needed. If you looking for something lighter and funny pick this one up.

Great to be back on the island

Tessa is hiding out and worried when she sees someone from Chicago with unknown intent.
Ryder recognises a victim and is drawn to help.
This is a story of good intentions and poor communication and a rather appropriate grand gesture on the way to a HEA.
Sabrina has delivered with book 2, I can’t wait for 3 to be ready.

Tessa and Ryder had me all caught up in this witty story. They are so well matched and brings this story to life. It is well written with authentic characters that had me connecting with them and cheering them on.
I am volunteering to leave a review for an ARC of this book.

Read No Limos First

A wonderful book, light an and fun. But you really need to read No Limos first. Highly recommend both books.

Fun, witty and a little mysterious. Love these characters. The story was well put together and flowed nicely. Definitely recommend.
