Pendragon Book One: The Merchant of Death and Book Two: The Lost City of Faar
Bobby Pendragon is a seemingly normal fourteen-year-old boy. But there is something very special about Bobby. He is going to save the world. And not just Earth as we know it. Bobby must fight for the future of Halla -- every time and place that has ever existed.
In the first two installments of the Pendragon series joined together in this special volume, Bobby is ripped from his family and everything he's ever known. He travels with his uncle Press to the territory of Denduron, where he meets the evil Saint Dane. After learning an inkling of what Saint Dane intends for Halla, Bobby flumes to Cloral, a vast world that is entirely covered by water.
Can Bobby accept the role of lead traveler, even after learning just how large a cost it can have?

He was raised in Greenwich, CT and graduated from Greenwich High School. While in school, he had several jobs including collecting eggs at a poultry farm, engraving sports trophies and washing dishes in a steakhouse...in between playing football and running track. D.J. then attended New York University where he received a BFA in film production.
His filmmaking career began in New York where he worked as a freelance writer/director, making corporate videos and television commercials. He also taught photography and film production.
D.J. broke into the entertainment business by writing several ABC Afterschool Specials. After moving to Los Angeles, he made the fulltime switch from informational films, to entertainment. As co-creator of the popular Nickelodeon series: Are You Afraid of the Dark?, he produced all 91 episodes over 8 years. He wrote and directed many of the episodes including the CableAce nominated The Tale of Cutter's Treasure starring Charles S. Dutton. He was nominated for a Gemini award for directing The Tale of the Dangerous Soup starring Neve Campbell.
D.J. also wrote and directed the movie Tower of Terror for ABC's Wonderful World of Disney which starred Kirsten Dunst and Steve Guttenberg. The Showtime series Chris Cross was co-created, written and produced by D.J. It received the CableAce award for Best Youth Series.
D.J. co-created and produced the Discovery Kids series Flight 29 Down for which he writes all the episodes and directs several. His work on Flight 29 Down has earned him both Writers Guild of America and Directors Guild of America award nominations.
Other notable writing credits include the classic ABC Afterschool Special titled Seasonal Differences; the pilot for the long-running PBS/CBS series Ghostwriter; and the HBO series Encyclopedia Brown, Boy Detective for which he received a CableAce nomination for writing.
In print, D.J. has co-written the book The Tale of the Nightly Neighbors, based on his own teleplay and penned the poetic adaptation of the classic Norwegian folk tale East of the Sun and West of the Moon.
The book series: Pendragon - Journal of an Adventure through Time and Space marks D.J.'s first turn as a novelist. He plans for this series of Young Adult adventures to span a total of 10 books.
D.J. lives in Southern California with his wife Evangeline and daughter Keaton. They are avid backpackers, scuba divers and skiers. Rounding out the household are a Golden Retriever, Maggie; and a Kitten, Kaboodle.

Main issue: st. Dain is trying to make a would go into Kayos and pendragon has to stop him
Setting: time and place is what this story is all about it happens in a different time and place every time. it could not take place at a different time or place it is so important because of the people who live there and the technology.
main characters: the protagonist is Bobby he is athletic fun and easy going. then their is st. Dain he is the worse person he wants to wreck the whole universe.
summary: Bobby is taken by hes uncle and he goes with him to a sub way station. in there is where they meet st.dain he tries to kill them and they get to a portal where it tell port them to a different world he finds he can travel because he is a traveler, he goes to Dunderon and there he meets two people that help him on his quest. they meet a tribe who is getting controlled by a kingdom. the tribe wants freedom so they make a bomb and they are about to blow it when bobby stops it they get in a war with the kingdom,and later they come together and make peace with the ruler of the kingdom.
like or dislike: i like the action in all the book it is awesome and the characters.

This book is excellent if you like fiction stories filled with non-stop adventure and unexpected turns. There are two parallel stories told at the same time that intertwine together perfectly. On one hand we have the adventures of a young 14-year-old kid by the name of Bobby Pendragon who travels to a parallel territory called Denduron (this land is in another time and space from modern day Earth) and one the other we have the story of Bobby’s two best friends, Courtney and Mark. They get to accompany their friend through journals he sends them via some really cool rings.
Bobby’s story and his discovery of his real identity are both captivating and out-of-this world, but he tells it in a way that is very easy to understand and easy to relate to, from the viewpoint of a teenager. I give this book an A+ and I sincerely hope you are so enthused about it that you will continue reading about Bobby’s other adventures.

I gave Pendragon book 1 book 4 stars, because I really liked the characters. Bobby Pendragon is one of the main characters of the story, he's a Traveler which means he can travel to different worlds called territories. In book 1 he is on a territory named Denderon which is in a pretty primative time. Bobby has to go on an adventure with Osa and her daughter Loor to save Bobby's Uncle Press who is also a Travelers. Osa and Loor are also Travelers from a territory named Zadaa. They are both warriors. When they do find Press they are thrown into the castle arena with a quig(which is a giant man eating bear on Denderon). After they kill the quig, the gaurds are ordered to go kill them. They have to escape through the quig pin. Next they ran through the woods to hide in the Miligo village, but they run into some of the Miligo miners

This book is probably the best book I have ever read. The story line is so detailed and crazy. I love the way that this book is set up. It is that every other chapter is on a separate earth and then the chapters in between are journals. One huge reason I fell in love with this book is because of the way the main character got from Earth to earth, he uses a transporter called a flume. so if you are a fan of mystery, suspense, and fantasy like myself I highly recommend this book because it will not only put a huge grin on your face when you are reading. But you never want to put the book down and you become hooked. But luckily for us all there is a series of about ten.

A fun series of books begins with this volume: Bobby Pendragon learns he is a Traveler, one of an elite corps of people who "flume" (travel via wormhole) to alternate reality territories to help the local people in times of crisis. Once Bobby becomes a Traveler, his family disappears--and he doesn't know if he'll ever see them again. He writes home to his friends via journals that he sends back in a cool sci-fi way, so you get to hear his story in his own words and also see the reactions of his best friends. Very much a cliffhanger.

September 27, 2012Last year I read the whole Pendragon series and absolutely loved it. I don't think of myself as a Science Fiction type of reader but I loved this series. I loved learning about all the problems on each territory and how Bobby was going to fix them. Of courses I hate Saint Dane as any Pendragon lover should. I would recommend these books to anyone really. I think once you start your hooked. Some books are better then others but if you get the chance I would definitely read these.

So far I have just read Book One. The series was recommended to me by my 13-year-old granddaughter - and I totally enjoyed the first book and look forward to reading Book Two. I am fascinated with the imagination of the author D.J.MacHale!

I really liked the concept of these books. However, most of the book was written in the first person, which sometimes makes the story awkward. The main characters of these books are teenagers, but the vocabulary was very flowery. In the end I didn't even finish the second book.

Couldn't get into this book. I read it all the way through to give it a chance, but the writing just kind of flat and I couldn't get into the plot.
