When acclaimed fiber artist Joy Ann seeks help with her firewood supply, she never expects Alex, a quiet woodworker known for his sculptural furniture. What starts as a simple business arrangement slowly becomes something deeper as they discover an unexpected connection through their shared devotion to craft.
Joy Ann has built a peaceful, creative life in the small Northern California town of Maysville, turning her salvaged barn into a respected textile studio. Her art comes first, always. She’s learned to protect her creative process from the demands of relationships. But Alex understands what it means to be fully absorbed in your work—the quiet joy of making something lasting with your hands—and he meets her with quiet patience and emotional clarity.
As two artists navigating full lives, they must learn to balance ambition, vulnerability, and growing affection. When Joy Ann is invited to showcase her work at a prestigious international competition, the pressure threatens to pull them apart just as they’re beginning to trust what they’ve built.
Set in a close-knit town filled with farmers markets, community softball games, and neighbors who become chosen family, Stitched Together is a slow-burn, closed-door romance about love that honors creative ambition, emotional depth, and second chances.
Perfect for readers who love small-town settings, character-driven stories, and relationships that unfold with the care of a hand-crafted masterpiece.
This is a beautiful story about two quiet people meeting. Over time, their appreciation for each other and the others creative work builds the foundation for something deeper between them.
Thank you so much Cara Hale for an advanced copy of this book. I absolutely adored it! It was cozy and simple, and refreshingly real. It was a nice break from some of the overly dramatic books I’ve read lately. I loved all of the attention to detail when describing their different crafts and all the work that goes into each project. I wanted to crawl into the book and spend hours in their workshops, and in their living rooms. I want to live in this town.
I also enjoyed the nice steady pace, and the down-to-earth characters. They felt more mature and realistic than most romance books do these days. No annoying insta-love or incessantly lusting after each other. Both MCs felt very comfortable with who they are, and they knew what they wanted. I appreciated how they took things slowly and built a friendship first. The kisses were sweet and all the intimate scenes were closed door, so there is no spice. However, the yearning and tension was still there so I loved it.
There was a bit of a third act breakup, which I wasn’t super thrilled with. It’s just generally not my favorite trope and it felt a little out of character for both of them, but the resolution brought things back around (even if the dialogue was a little sappy for a moment.) I really liked the timing of the resolution too. I can’t wait to read more from this collection!
A gentle, heartwarming romance with low drama is sometimes just what the soul needs - you can find it in Stitched Together.
Joy Ann is a textile artist. She works with reclaimed fabrics in quilts to create masterpieces. She lives outside of a small town in a house and barn she restored herself - and that’s how she likes her life.
Until, that is, she meets Alex. Sometimes lumberjack, always a woodworker, he might just be the person who understands getting lost in a major project. Alone, they create unique artworks sought after around the world. Together…who knows what their potential might be?
This is a super slow burn book that, like the crafting depicted inside, takes its time to create something worthwhile. The descriptions of the redwood forest around the town, the textures and colours of fabrics, the tones and grain of wood - each is carefully constructed to put you in the moment. It is very clear that sustainable living and crafting are an important feature of the author’s life.
The romance is also slow burn, with only kisses on page and the understanding that more is happening behind closed doors. Thematically, the book is quite gentle. It discusses the death of a parent, and we do get some miscommunication happening near the end. It is a cosy, sweet contemporary romance and should appeal to fans of that genre.

💭Review: Stitched Together is a tender, slow-burn small-town romance that completely pulled me in. Joy Ann and Alex’s story is heartfelt, creative, and beautifully written, a love letter to art, community, and second chances. The characters feel so real you’ll want to linger in Maysville long after the final page. Perfect for anyone who loves cozy, emotional reads without the heavy spice.
Thank you to Cara Hale for providing me with an advanced copy of this book.
You guys, this sweet small-town story completely pulled me in and kept me fully immersed. Stitched Together is an emotional and heartfelt story about two makers, Joy Ann and Alex. I was rooting for them from the very beginning.
The characters felt so real and imperfect—you can’t help but want to sit down for brunch with Joy Ann and her friends and spend an afternoon on the porch with the broody lumberjack. Watching them grow as individuals while their respective projects came to life was such a delight. I genuinely wish I could see the finished pieces they created.
This story is tender, emotional, and full of heart. It’s a love letter to community, creativity, and the courage it takes to stitch yourself together with others. I can’t wait to see more of their story!
✨ Perfect for fans of cozy small-town romances, heartfelt character growth, and a touch of creative magic.
I loved the story, the artistry involved, and the writing. The story was told in a beautiful way. Joy Ann had a soft soul and it came out in the words. Alex was sturdy and no nonsense. They fit together very well.
I didn’t love how some things were rather repetitive. It felt like filler that could have been left out. I also would have enjoyed more dialogue between the characters rather than just reading their thoughts. I get how both main characters were kind of used to being alone but I think it would have benefited the storyline to have them converse more.
I usually like to have open door spice in a book but I actually didn’t mind having it left closed here. I think it fit the characters personalities well as they were both on the private side.
Overall, it was a very cute story, low angst, and an easy read.
Joy Ann - an independent female who knows what she wants and will not be persuaded otherwise by a guy; social battery recharged on a Wednesday but not feeling it on a Friday night energy
Alex - craftsman; values his solitude, which allows for his creativity to come to fruition
slow burn, closed door
For two artisans, there is nothing more intimate than sharing a peek into their workspace with each other.
"...he didn't want to just show up and be okay. He wanted to meet her on her level. He wanted to be seen by someone who really looked and to have something worth showing."
"Let's see if I made the right choice" - Joy Ann "I already know I did." - Alex
The author tells the story of two creatives who slowly develop a relationship through mutual affection and shared interests. I liked the idyllic, small town setting, which gives the novel an escapist touch. The characters are more mature, so the book will appeal to more mature readers, especially those who enjoy a slow pacing. This is hands down the cleanest romance I ever read. A bit more interaction of the characters would’ve been nice (more showing). The crisis was unexpected, and I think such a simple misunderstanding would be resolved relatively fast? What I loved most was how each other’s work was reflected in their own artistic endeavors! Not one big grand gesture, but something a bit more meaningful.
Dual POV Grumpy/Sunshine Romance (closed door) Slow burn romance with a fall to winter backdrop Small Town Vibes
Thank you Cara Hale for the ARC!
Alex seems to be a grumpy lumberjack forced to help JoyAnn, but there’s a deeper side to this brooding artist. I enjoyed how the main characters become friends through the appreciation of each other’s artistic craft. This story was sweet and cozy! I was so interested in how everything was going to work out between JoyAnn and Alex. When I am yelling at the characters as I read, I know I’m vested in their lives.
The only reason I did not give it 5 stars was I wanted the characters romance to move at a quicker pace.
I absolutely loved the clear amount of knowledge/research that went into this story. Both main characters arts/professions are described in beautiful detail. The plot of this story is mainly character driven, being a small town romance. What I love about the relationship between the characters is the sense of maturity. Characters are nuanced and go through development of their own throughout the story. The town of Maysville felt cozy and realistic, as if it could really exist. The writing style and pacing of this book felt natural and neither rushed nor convoluted. This is a heartwarming story built on creativity and trust, a lighter read and well worth the time
Thank you to the author for an ARC of this sweet book!
It’s a cozy story about two mature people who share a passion for their respective creative crafts. It does not have the wild immature swings and big misunderstandings of a traditional rom-com.
I enjoyed the town and the cast of characters and the found/chosen family aspect. I also found myself getting absorbed into the quilting and woodworking crafts.
Overall this is a nice story in a nice setting without a lot of conflict or significant climax - there is a small conflict but it ends up feeling a little unrealistic, though the reunion and make-up is very heartwarming and well handled.
I am so excited because this was my first ARC!! So thankful!!
I’m a big fan of romance novels, and I’m always looking for sweet, closed-door stories to enjoy. Stitched Together was so sweet and cozy. The plot moved a little slower than I prefer, with a lot of descriptions of the characters’ days, without a lot of interacting between our protagonists. Both characters mentioned their interest in each other, but they didn’t really attempt to talk for the first few days of their relationship, which made for a very slow start. Overall, it was a very cute and cozy story!
Sweet romance with endearing characters and a unique plot. I’ve never read a book with quilting and wood working as main plot points, and even though I don’t do either, I am an artist, so I can appreciate the creativity and hard work that goes into them. I thought Alex and Joy Ann were sweet together. There were a few slow moments, but nothing too distracting. Cara is a great author and I look forward to reading more from her.
Thanks for allowing me to read an ARC! (And sorry it took me so long to review!)
If you are a crafter/maker, or appreciate that aspect of life, this will be a sweet romance for you to check out. Joy Ann is brilliant with textiles and Alex is a talented woodworker. They are both simple, keep to themselves, and spend most of their time honing their craft. This story was slow and easy in the best way as they learned to balance work and personal endeavors. It had small town charm, appreciation and passion for the arts, supportive friends and family.

Stitched Together was such a heartfelt read! The slow-burn romance felt natural and genuine—nothing rushed or unrealistic, just two people finding their way to each other in the sweetest way. While I personally would’ve loved a little more spice to make it a full five stars, the emotional connection and camaraderie completely pulled me in. I found myself fully invested, eager to see how everything would work out for them! A beautiful, cozy slow-burn that stays with you.
This was the first book I read by this author and I really enjoyed it. The main characters are a quilter and a woodworker. Their interactions are very relatable. I found the writing style and pacing similar to Jan Karon’s Mitford series, but without the faith/religious component. I’m looking forward to reading book 2 in this series when it is released next month. Thank you to the author and the publisher for the free digital ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I was selected as an arc reader for this book and thank you for the copy Cara. I rated this book 3.5 stars because i didn’t really like the font it hurt my eyes but it was still a decent book i loved the characters Joy Ann she was such a baddie and i loved how passionate she was about her work. And our other main character Alex really was hard working and treats her well which is really nice to see.
I absolutely LOVED this story! It felt like a hug in a book. Low on the drama and high on the sweet romance, it is the perfect book for literally any mood you may have. The beautiful descriptive language makes you feel like you are in this town sitting among the characters. Totally immersive and wonderfully warm. Definitely going to be a comfort read for me!
Such a sweet, slow-burn romance. I loved how the relationship was built on trust and started as friends first—it gave the story such a natural and heartwarming feel. While the couple faced a challenge or two along the way, they worked through them beautifully. Overall, it was an easy, enjoyable read.
I thoroughly enjoyed this ARC read, more so because I'm a Maker and truly appreciated the artist and craftsmanship in both Joy Ann and Alex, the two main characters. The story was beautifully written weaving in their crafts into the slow burn of their growing love and relationship. and how it came together at the end... I won't give away spoilers... but chef's kiss!
ARC Book: I gave this a four because it is actually a beautiful story. It does start slow but you’ll understand why. There is literally no spice but yearning and I loved it. If there is more of Alex & Joy Ann, I can’t wait to read it. It feels good to find someone that automatically comes with ease and appreciation and a sense of understanding.
loved the book EXCEPT for the ending, it was so unlike the rest of the book. It was predictable, unbelievable and ridiculous! Up until the end, I was hooked. However, I will read another of this series because the story itself was great!
Stitched Together is a truly heart-warming, well-written story that will have you rooting for both Joy Ann and Alex, despite their hesitations, preoccupations and misunderstandings.
Super cute quick read. Not my preferred choice because there was zero spice whatsoever in this book, but it was still a super cute book and I'm not gonna knock stars simply because it didn't have spice when it never advertised that it would! I did get this book as an arc from the author and also just got her next book, so I'm excited to read that one too and see if Joy Ann and Alex are discussed in the next book!
Thank you to the author for providing an ARC of Stitched Together. It’s always a privilege to have early access!
About the book… The thing that drew me to this book was the artistry of the characters. It’s not every day I find a book about a fiber artist and woodworker. When I applied for this ARC, I knew it was closed-door. I was not expecting it to be as slow-paced as it was. That bothered me at first. The writing was a bit repetitive and dragged at times. However, the more I read, the more I appreciated how realistic Jo Ann and Alex’s relationship felt. It was built on sporadic texts and quick moments together. Subtle flirting consisted of winks and laughter. I’m smiling just thinking about it.
