Shifter Lords #4

Shifting Winds

Rate this book
Everything's a mess. The gods won't stay out of her business. And Evie? All she wants is a little peace or drowning by bottomless margaritas.

Evie should be basking in the afterglow after her romp with the Shifter Lord. Instead, she's dodging his increasingly aggressive courtship rituals like a runaway bride carrying dynamite. Not because she doesn't care about him, but because she's keeping big secrets.

Cernunnos has decided to retire. On the surface, totally fine. Except … Daddy Dearest wants to hand Evie the keys to the fae kingdom, and he's been dropping in with divine homework and cryptic warnings about the future.

As if that wasn't bad enough, Caelan is hinting at forever, the Council is sniffing around, searching for answers about Donovan's untimely demise, and Cliona keeps dropping by, hinting she wants a mother-daughter relationship, while conveniently forgetting she tried to kill Evie a few months ago.

The cherry on top? After a split-second decision to swallow the World Tree seed to keep it out Chimera hands, Evie is now a bridge to other worlds—a power she has no idea how to use, but one that everyone covets, leaving her to ask the most important question of all…

Who can she trust?

And who wants to take her out for good?

S.E. Babin has a passion for writing books with a paranormal twist. Whether it's romance or mystery, she loves taking the norm and turning it into the extraordinary. Her love of reading turned into a curious exploration to see whether or not she could write her own novel.

Beginning with random, terrible poetry and a slightly popular reimagining of Beowulf's Grendel in her high school English class, Sheryl spent way too much time in the library, killing any chance of her becoming a cheerleader or anything even remotely cool. This is the 4th installment of the Shifter Lords series where Evie gets more exposure to the fae side of her heritage. We last left off with finding out her father is a god and he wants Evie to learn the ways of the fae so that she can take over for him as his heir. Evie is not too keen about this especially since she's still resisting fully bonding with Caelan and essentially becoming queen of the shifters. She's also dealing with the Shifter Council, who don't like her, and the consequences of swallowing the world seed.

It took a while for me to finish this instant unlike the first three due to a combination of a hectic work life but also it wasn't giving the feelings of the previous books. A lot of the focus was mainly on Caelen and Evie essentially having the same, exhausting conversation about her accepting her place with the Pack and resisting heavily. I also felt like the scene changes happened fast and the plot resolutions were wrapped up a little too quickly.

I still adore all the side characters like Moira, Ash and Tess. We got a glimpse of Moira and her true power and we also realized how powerful of a banshee Tess really is. I also really appreciated Rowan in this story because he stole the conversational show. I will be continuing with this series and look forward to the next book.

Wow!!

Wow wow wow! There’s just so much that happens and to try and explain would be so spoilery and I won’t do that. I will say Evie is amazing!! Those that cross her better beware. Surprises, check, action check, mmagic and mystery check, love and loss check. Everything you could want in a book and a doozy of a wild ride. I can’t wait to see what curveballs are coming next!

absolutely amazing. A winner!

Rating: 4.75⭐️

This was an excellent read. The fourth book in what I believe is a seven book series, Babin packs so many important series elements and shocking moments into this book, jamming a multitude of various character’s storylines, relationship dynamics, and unexpected events together to make this story a memorable, explosive dramatic and extremely compelling book.

Evie and Caelin’s relationship is one that still stands out as one of powerfully compelling fragility. Each of them has their own unique powers as well as responsibilities and deeply rooted secrets that make any type of permanent connection between them almost untenable. Never more is this made clear than here as events escalate.

But Evie’s friends are ongoing challenges and their own personal relationship issues. Ones that her choices are making an impact.

It’s one thing after another. One dramatic moment that arises when you least expect it. And the author folds every single piece of information and plot effortlessly into the whole, using mythology and fantasy and the richness of the location to bring the characters and wildness of this story to life.

That ending was so satisfying and intense. Which makes me want more immediately!

There’s a bit of a mystery left unanswered that will be carried over to the next book. I can wait for it to be released.

Highly recommended. Grab them up and read in the order they were written.

This is a series that I find absolutely amazing. A winner!

Shifting Winds (Shifter Lords Book 4)

The Shifter Lords series keeps getting better & better. There are serious life lessons in Book 4.

Go Evie for burning not only a voracious “World Tree” to the ground, but the evil twits who sought / seek to own & enthrone you against your will.

Much Love to Tess, Ash, Moira, Hazel, & Caelan; & a smack on Rowan’s cheek, too. Lo, do I know that EVIE’S CHALLENGES not stopped, and have intensified. She and her Floromancy / Chimera / Fae Self & her True Friends are some of the most interesting protagonists I’ve read about since I’ve read (nearly everything) by Octavia Butler, most specifically, her 1st book “Wild Seed,” & her FINAL book, “Fledgling.” I eagerly await Books 5-8!

Daaaaayummmm! I just finished this, and it is probably the best of the series yet. Evie is really put through the metaphorical ringer big time in this, and she is tossed in so many directions, she doesn’t know where to turn. Again, this is probably the best of the series, but I can’t say a whole bunch because I don’t want to spoil anything. I can say that by the end of the book, everything has changed in so many ways, even more than in the last book, and I’m on the edge of my seat wanting to find out how these changes are going to affect everyone and everything in Evie’s life. Highly recommend. I was provided a complimentary copy which I voluntarily reviewed.

In our most recent installment of the Little Shop of Florals fam. Relationship drama galore (no cheating). Family pressure, new family members, and hidden family agenda. Romantic relationships have some big moments too. Major character growth for Evie, Caelan, Moira, Tess, Garret, Cliona, & Cernunnos. I love how the core family ties grew stronger throughout this book. I also enjoy how SE doesn’t rely on common conflicts and you don’t see the plot twists coming. This story has so much heart and emotion. I can’t wait to see what happens next!.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Quick tangent: does EVERY emotionally-damaged UF heroine have to go through a “it’s just physical” phase with their partner before committing to an actual relationship? Signs point to yes.

ANYWAYS, interesting book. The plot and world-building are definitely starting to feel kind of scattered, but I am hopeful that Evie and Caelan are headed in the right direction? I almost wish we got more from the side characters, too, because there’s some intriguing stuff happening there.

I am looking forward to the next book just to see where things go and definitely plan on giving it a read.

I love this series and with each passing book it just gets better and better. In this latest addition Evie is feeling the pressure and having to deal with some rather big issues in this well paced, action filled read! Our characters continue to grow as the author throws twists and turns in our path and has you hooked from start to finish. It’s an exciting and emotional read and I cannot wait for the next book.

No fair! TEARS, you just had to make me cry! Oh what an awesome without S.E. Babin is.

I'm ranking her with Patricia Briggs and she's my number 1 author.

I was in the story, watching everything unfold, holding my breath, waiting to see/read the out come, fingers crossed and with a release of breath what an awesome ending (ish)!

Onward to the next one (I hope there is).

good

I love Evie in these books. She is not afraid to speak her mind and she doesn’t let people walk on her. She is learning more about her Fie heritage and how obnoxious they can be. She is also sticking up to the shifter Lord because he wants to take their relationship further and she does not want to do it. I thought it was really interesting about what happened with the world tree seed that she swallowed. I hope there is another book in the series.

Fabulous

I almost never give 5 star reviews, but this book kept giving and giving until I felt so embroiled in the story and grieved and celebrated with the characters. This series just keeps getting better with each book.

I highly recommend the series. Each book keeps you guessing. The author doesn’t rush the storyline and focuses on developing the characters and relationships. You become very invested in the supporting characters too.

all the feels in this one

Thank goodness for a happy ending, but the grief I felt was deep. Evie’s love for her people is so unconditional and unending. I’m also admittedly enchanted by Seymour. Who knew? lol
