Stevie Nicks in 50 Songs

Rate this book
A visually stunning, definitive tribute to rock’s most enigmatic, enduring, and stylish icon, Stevie Nicks, written by New York Times bestselling music journalist Annie Zaleski.

This beautifully illustrated book goes beyond the glitter and shawls to explore the raw artistry, resilience, and magic that define Stevie Nicks’s five-decade career. From singing “Are You Mine” with her grandfather in Phoenix to becoming the first woman inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame twice, Stevie’s story is as sweeping and bold as her stage presence. Stevie Nicks in 50 Songs covers it her early musical roots, folk and country influences, first guitar at sixteen, and fateful harmony with Lindsey Buckingham on “California Dreamin’”—a moment that launched one of rock’s most complicated partnerships.

This is not just a music biography. It’s a deep dive into Stevie’s powerful songwriting and mythmaking. The book analyzes iconic tracks like “Rhiannon,” inspired by Welsh mythology, “Landslide,” written during a pivotal moment in her relationship with Buckingham, and “Stand Back,” created with an uncredited synth assist from Prince. It covers breakout Fleetwood Mac hits like “Dreams” and “Gold Dust Woman,” along with cult classics from the Buckingham Nicks era and her solo work, like “Edge of Seventeen.” The book also offers surprising insights into her personal her friendships, her struggle with addiction, her political engagement, and advocacy work. Nick's unmatched fashion legacy shines through these pages, too. A dedicated section explores her famous shawls and capes, her di Fabrizio boots, the mystical Rumours look, and her real-life wardrobe inspirations. Beyond the music and style, Stevie Nicks in 50 Songs dives into the artist's cultural impact, like her pop mentorship of artists Taylor Swift, Harry Styles, and more.

Featuring rare photos, extensive track breakdowns, and revealing quotes, Stevie Nicks in 50 Songs is not just a celebration of a career. It’s a celebration of a woman who twirled through heartbreak and fame and emerged bolder than ever.

An absolutely gorgeous book that chronicles Stevie's career in '50 songs'. It is immaculately presented, with stunning photography and I liked the selection of songs. Not all of them are Stevie's, some are her inspirations and some are artists she has inspired. Irregardless, I enjoyed making a Spotify playlist of the 50 songs to listen to while reading.

The would have liked more depth and insight behind the songs and behind what was happening with Stevie and Fleetwood Mac at the time. The information presented was fairly basic - but I guess I could read a more traditional biography or history of Fleetwood Mac to get that.

When I was rummaging around the library yesterday, looking for a new book to read, I happened to stumble upon this great gem: "Stevie Nicks in 50 Songs."

In February, 1976, I first heard Stevie Nicks singing "Rhiannon." Right then, I was hooked...totally mesmerized...and I began searching everywhere for 45s or LPs that featured Stevie Nicks. I played my first Fleetwood Mac album over and over.

I searched and found everything I could about Stevie Nicks and played her songs front to back, over and over and over. was mesmerized...her mystic voice, mysterious lyrics, and a bit of witchy magic.Part of me felt as if knew Stevie, as if we were sisters, perhaps in a another life, a different. I searched for everything I could find about Stevie. Who is this magical woman, who knows how to touch the soul and create such bond with her follows. I set out to find everything I could about this mystical Stevie.

Well, that was fifty years ago, and I still adore Stevie Nicks and want to know more about this wonderful, mystical songstress. Stevie Nicks in Fifty Songs" takes the reader behind the scenes and gives intriguing insights to Stevie's writing, her many friendships in the music business, and the many performers and writers who helped Stevie or at least contributed to her haunting lyrics and music.
"Stevie Nicks in 50 Songs" is the ultimate book for Stevie fans. It gives insights into her poems, lyrics, great loves, and many , many stories about her life and friendships.
I enjoyed this book so much and if you're any kind of a Stevie fan, you'll probably love this book too.

I'm a big fan of Stevie Nicks and Fleetwood Mac in general, and after flipping through Fleetwood Mac All the Songs: The Story Behind Every Track I was hoping for something more in-depth about the song meanings. This did give more details about her life and some of the inspirations for the music, but there wasn't a ton more beyond Gold Dust Woman: The Biography of Stevie Nicks. There is more from recent years and includes a handful of songs from other artists that inspired her. It's a beautifully laid out book that would appeal to any fan.

Well, that was fun. Great photos, fabulous quotes, and some genuine insights into music, songwriting, and who the artist was and is and how it was and still is. Also, to be perfectly clear, her relationships with a number of men in music fueled her songwriting with passion and inspiration.
Stevie Nicks and I are about the same age. Brava, your music has always delighted me, and continues to do so.
