Nate's on a mission to Earth from the planet Vega. His goal: eat pizza! Luckily, soon after he crash-lands on Earth he meets Fazel, who helps him create a disguise, learn the ways of Earthlings and, most importantly, stuff himself with pizza! Nate quickly discovers there are lots of things to love about Earth and Earthlings besides pizza. He's having a blast! There's only one problem. Two Men in Beige (government agents) are desperate to capture him and bring him to their lab - and they're starting to close in. Will Fazel and Nate manage to elude the Men in Beige while they find fuel for Nate's spacecraft so he can head home? And will Nate have had his fill of pizza by then?

Here's a sidesplittingly funny graphic novel from multiple-award-winning writer, illustrator and cartoonist Dave Whamond. With its irreverent humor and high energy, it's a perfect pick for emerging readers. Along with the fun, the lovable main character models an eagerness to learn new things and broaden his horizons and, together with Fazel, is able to look past surface differences to find friendship and a shared sense of adventure. There are terrific character education lessons here on adaptability, inclusiveness (even of "aliens") and teamwork.

Nate is setting out on an intergalactic search. His mission?

🍕 Find pizza.
🍕 Eat pizza.
🍕 Bring pizza back to his planet.

The tastebuds of his fellow Vegans are depending on him.

Soon after crash landing on Earth, Nate meets one of the locals, Fazel.

description

Eluding capture by representatives from the Men in Black Beige, Fazel manages to hide Nate at his house. Fazel introduces his new friend to more of Earth’s delicacies, including donuts, and all of the other wonders Earth has to offer.

The Men in Beige aren’t going to give up their search for this purple alien easily though.

description

This is a cute story about the importance of friendship, teamwork and using your imagination, although the narrative felt a bit disjointed at times. While younger readers will probably really enjoy seeing Nate trying to fit in at school and discovering new things, some of the pop culture references are likely to fly straight over their heads.

Thank you so much to NetGalley and Kids Can Press for the opportunity to read this graphic novel. I’m rounding up from 3.5 stars.

This book was really cute. I'm glad the Men in Beige didn't catch him, and if they did that would have been really bad. It's a good thing Amy was there to help them. Nate loves pizza, him and Fazel tried every kind of pizza. I agree with Nate that pineapple on pizza is just odd.

3,5/5. Funny and well illustrated. Absurd humor, which I usually enjoy, but this kind might just be a little to «young» for my taste and age. Personal liking 2,5/5. Potential 4/5. I give it a fair 3,5/5.

Nice book, but the concept was loose. No grammatical mistakes and the words we're also readable but I found the story bland and boring. It was too fast-paced and I didn't enjoy one bit of it. I had great expectations from it but it didn't even touch it anywhere. Still it's a good try.

Alien Nate by Dave Whamond, 64 pages. GRAPHIC NOVEL Kids Can Press, 2020. $15.

Content: G

BUYING ADVISORY: EL (K-3) – ESSENTIAL

AUDIENCE APPEAL: HIGH

Nate is a purple alien who has been sent to earth to find pizza. While on earth, Nate meets Fazel and they become fast friends. Fazal shows Nate many likable things about the human world, while avoiding the government workers who are trying to capture Nate. Eventually, Nate realizes that he needs to get back home to his planet Vega. With the help of his new friends he fuels up his spacecraft and heads back to space.

Nate is adorable and the quick friendship between Nate and Fazal is a good example of how to accept people and their differences. The illustrations are bright and appealing, and this is a great simple graphic novel for younger readers. Adorable!

Thank you to the publisher for giving me a free copy to read!

I'm not too sure about this one.

I started really loving it. It was very cute story of an alien loving pizza and him being stranded on earth not knowing anything about it.

I love the artstyle in this book. It's so cute and well done that you can see from the beginning what it's meant to show. I absolutely love that.

I really enjoyed the main events that happened in those 61 pages but one thing that really made me cringe was the dialogue.

This is a kids book and I understand that the dialogue is not obscure or at all advanced in that case. But the dialogue for this was plain horrid in my opinion.

The characters were very cute and easy to get along with. I think that was also a very good part of the book.

I would recommend this book for people that are just interested in the story.

This is a cute enough story, of Nate, the alien, who discovers pizza, because, well, it is shot into space, and he eats some, and so comes to earth to find more.

And that is the story. It is a bit of a one-trick-pony, in that the whole point of this is for Nate to integrate with school kids, and get pizza.

The pictures are bright and colorful. The bad guys, are, well, bad guys, and the kids do everything they can to help Nate in his mission.

Thanks to Netgalley for making this book available for an honest review.

A well-written, adorable story about an alien coming to Earth in search of pizza. A light alien encounter that touches on making friends, accepting those who are different, bullies and, of course, how using your imagination leads to great things. I would have loved this graphic story as a kid and plan to share it with my nieces and nephews.

When a purple extraterrestrial named Nate is sent on a mission to acquire pizza (which his species found in a satellite sent into space from Earth) he makes a crash landing in a cold, snowy forest. So far Earth doesn't seem much to write home about... a boy named Fazel finds him just in time and they escape the Men in Beige! Nate has a lot to learn about Earth culture, and a lot of pizza to consume. Alien Nate is a great short graphic novel full of great punchlines and humor!

Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Alien Nate is a short graphic novel that follows an alien named Nate who comes to Earth in search of pizza. Nate gets stranded here and has to depend on the help of his new friends to get back to planet Vega.

This was just okay for me. It was cute but I'd recommend it more for 6/7 year olds. The artwork is cute and colorful. Nate was adorable.

This was a cute and funny little comic, which even had some moral aspects in it for those who want to find that in a children's story. I also guess Nate the alien will perfectly manage to lure kids to read a book.

(Thanks to Netgalley, the author, and the publisher for a copy of the book, all opinions are my own)

Alien Nate is a fantastic MG book that would be perfect for struggling readers. What can bring two people together faster than anything? Pizza, of course. When Nate's ship breaks, his new friends help him fix it and bring pizza back home.

Thank you NetGalley and Kids Can Press for the opportunity to read an advance reading copy.

Originally published on my blog: Nonstop Reader.

Alien Nate is a cute graphic adventure story for kids by Dave Whamond. Released 7th April 2020 by Kids Can Press, it's a compact 64 pages and available in hardcover and ebook formats.

This is a delightfully cute book covering some of the adventures of a kid-sized purple extraterrestrial called Nate who's been sent by his leaders to Earth in search of pizza. After a crash landing, he meets up with Fazel who helps him blend in and experience school, daily earth-life, and lots of earth cuisine in addition to pizza. Along the way, they have to outwit the evil vaguely governmental men-in-beige who just want to capture little Nate for their nefarious experiments.

This is a short book which can be read and enjoyed in one session and will appeal to kids of all ages (including grown-up kids who are still on speaking terms with their sense of fun). I also liked the subtle lessons of friendship and inclusivity.

Four stars, love the art and the positive (if slightly silly) message.

Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.

A graphic novel for young readers that is out of this world!

Nate is an alien from the planet Vega; he is on a mission: find Earth and pizza! After crashing his spaceship on Earth, he meets a boy named Fazel who introduces Nate to other delicacies as well. The Men in Beige learn of the existence of the alien and begin searching for him. Nate and Fazel spend their time eluding the MiB and search for how to repair Nate's spaceship so he can return to Vega.

Full of puns on the winter-time setting ("Earth is pretty cool!" - "You can say that again!"), contemporary slogans ("What happens in Vega, stays in Vega."), and alien-related events (crop circles, an agent from SETI, and UFO's - "Oh, that's just the model number.") will not be lost on young readers. Told in frames with boxes explaining action and bubbles dialogue, there are also visual gags that will appeal (a car that "transforms" into a snowmobile). Kiddos will laugh as Nate makes his getaway.

Fun and refreshing story that deals with cooperation, using your imagination, and friendship.

Recommended for grades 2-4.

An alien emissary from the planet Vega lands on earth to find … pizza! The alien, Nate, is a small purple dude shaped a bit like a light bulb. He lands on Earth in winter, and is rescued from the cold by a brown-skinned boy named Fazel. Fazel thinks that Nate should come to school with him so he can learn all about earth and its inhabitants. When Nate is worried his purple skin will give him away, Fazel tells him not to worry: “The kids in my school come in all sorts of amazing colors” and “When I first came to this country, I felt a bit like an alien, too.” This is a fast-paced, simply worded graphic novel with slapstick humor. There is implied danger from “the men in beige” but no violence. The pen and ink art with digital color is classic action comics. By the way, Nate does get his pizza. A great title to offer kids ready to move on from Fly Guy easy readers.

Nate is an alien from the planet Vega who's on a mission to Earth to eat pizza! When his ship crash lands, he befriends Fazel who takes helps Nate blend in and teaches him more about Earth than pizza.

Such a cute book! The graphics are very vibrant and colorful and Nate is just adorable. Nate is worried about blending in with others from the color of his skin and Fazel's friendship helps him overcome that fear and I loved the book even more for that. Nate's adventures eating popcorn, hotdogs, donuts, and pizza is humorous and his facial expressions are certainly me every time I eat them.

Thank you to NetGalley and Kids Can Press for providing a free copy in exchange for an honest review. I enjoyed this book so much, I bought myself a physical copy the day it was released.

In this graphic novel, the spacecraft Voyager 1 contained not just a golden record with information about Earth but a pizza as well. Nate is an alien from Vega who has come to earth in search of more pizza. He crash lands in the woods and finds a young boy Fazel who helps to protect him from the men in beige suits. As Nate stays on Earth and tries to fix his damaged ship he learns more about earthlings. He learns there are more tasy foods though pizza remains his favorite. Fazel, a bully named Frank, and the new girl Amy help Nate fix his ship and get home. This is a funny graphic novel that I think will engage fans of DogMan and other funny titles. This would be a good addition to middle grade graphic novel collections.

Want to get boys to read? This will do it! Not just because it's about aliens and pizza (though that alone launches it into contention for success). But because it's hilarious and well stitched together. It doesn't surprise me that many of the reviews here by girls snub it. It's not a girl book. It's not meant to be deep or full of moral messages. It's a middle grade book perfect for reluctant readers, esp. boys. They're the ones who will get it. And it is much needed in that genre. Well done, Dave Whammond.

I love how this story was so simple and hilarious. The alien crash land into earth and adore pizza i mean who does not. I love the way the illustrations were so adorable it is too cute.
He met a human and they became best of friends i mean he even went to school with a wig that's funny.....
His main goal was to go back to his planet and avoid the beige men from catching nate.
I would highly recommend this book to my nieces.

This book is a lot of fun for early graphic novel readers. Alien Nate comes from a planet that stopped using its imagination. An Earth ship landed on Nate's planet and it had a pizza on it. Nate loved the pizza so much that he traveled from his planet to Earth just to get more pizza. He meets a friend who takes him to school. Nate and his friend, Fazel, have to find a way to fix Nate's ship and get him home. The author has some punny humor and the illustrations are great.

I think that fans of Big Nate, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, etc will get a kick out of this. I wasn't super into it, but I think it's just because of my age. Cute illustrations, and the diversity factor is nice.

Alien Nate was a fun read and the younger grade readers should enjoy the humour of Nate and his Earth adventures. Aliens who love pizza, 'Men in Beige' and many more laugh out loud moments make this book a winner.
