the field guide to nepo babies by fran hoepfner is exactly what it promises to be, which is a glossy, tongue in cheek little book meant to amuse more than it is meant to educate. this is not a deep dive or a cultural autopsy of nepotism so much as it is a playful catalog of famous lineage connections, presented in a format that feels closer to a coffee table curiosity than a work of criticism.
the humor largely works for what the book is trying to do. it is light, quick, and easy to flip through, with jokes that land often enough to keep things moving. my personal highlight was the very correct observation that jesus himself qualifies as a nepo baby, which alone made me laugh out loud. hoepfner clearly understands the assignment here and leans into absurdity rather than moralizing, which makes the whole thing more fun.
this is a book for people who enjoy tracing familial connections, gasping when they realize who is related to whom, and then immediately texting a friend about it. it is semi-silly, self aware, and not especially interested in lingering too long on any single figure. that breeziness is part of its charm, but it also means there is not much to return to once you have finished it.
still, as a way to pass an hour or two, it does its job well. if you enjoy pop culture trivia, glossy pages, and ranking your favorite nepo babies just for fun, this will absolutely scratch that itch. not essential reading, but a pleasant and amusing distraction.
Review to be added to Amazon UK and US on 12 May 2026 - publication day!
I read this book at the time that the news regarding Brooklyn Beckham was breaking in the news and I thought I was quite apt with the timing as I did see a mention of him in the book and he has just made himself one of the most 'notorious' nepos out there - I am still very much looking forward to see how that story all pans out - as people say, there are three sides to every story, his, theirs and the truth so will be watching that space!
Back to my review and I thought that the book was great - it was quite funny and did give me a few giggles and smiles as I progressed. I also realised that there are a lot more nepo babies out there than I realised and I will be honest - Jesus was not one that I had put in that category - but I have now!!
It is 4 stars from me for this one - definitely worth a read but not one that I will really be going back too at a later date - a great way to pass a couple of hours

As a pop culture fan, this was a lot of fun! I love the topic of nepo babies and debating which ones deserve their career verses which ones just got handed success. This book taught me more than I expected it would, and included far more examples than I would have thought! There’s little quizzes and activities to keep you engaged, but you’ll be sucked in if you like catty call outs towards controversial celebrities
This was a surprisingly fun book. I thought I knew most nepo babies but there were a ton I didn’t. The tone is sarcastic and funny, but not mean. I don’t think anyone needs to own this book necessarily, but it would make for a fun library read.
I read a temporary digital copy of this book for review.
