This book really got its hooks into me pretty quickly. I was drawn in by Azrael, Mercy, and their story.
Mercy and Azrael are well developed characters, and I continued to learn more about each of them as the story progressed. The author did a great job of building the world and the plot, and before I knew it, I was totally immersed! I was absolutely cheering them on and desperate for them to find a way to be together and be happy.
It was nice to see Mercy accept Azrael for who and what he is without her judging and holding his nature against him, like we usually see in this type of book. They both fought to be together and are so accepting of who the other is that it was refreshing to not have the push and pull of one trying to accept the others flaws.
If you are a fan of romantasy with some darker themes, demons, fated mates that will burn the world for each other, shadow daddies and spice, then you should 100% check this book out. It is a thoroughly enjoyable read and I will absolutely reading the next book in the series.
Be warned, there is one heck of a cliffhanger at the end, but totally worth it!
Thank you to Des Sweet and Booksirens for the opportunity to read this as an ARC.
The one star is not a comment on the writing or author. It's just the rating I give to all books I DNF. I read until about 45%, and it never really clicked for me. The plot wasn't picking up quickly enough. The FMC gave innocent, helpless, damsel in distress, but of course, she's going to be super powerful someday. I guess I'm just not in a very patient mood and don't want to wait around for it. The MMC is obsessed with her because of things that occurred before the start of the book and because he thinks they're fated, so I don't feel attached to their romance at all.
This gothic, demi-demons and seraphim romantasy centers around Mercy, who’s just discovered the very harsh and violent man who raised her isn’t her biological father, and that she’s the product of her human mother’s affair with a celestial being. Additionally, Azrael, she learns that the man she’s been in love with since they were children but has been separated from for her protection is a descendent of h3ll and heir apparent to a supernatural circus run by his menacing grandfather.
When Mercy’s (step)father secures a marriage contract for her after all the other terrible things he’d profited from her unwilling participation in, she runs to Azrael for help and they embark on a dangerous series of maneuvers to outwit both her stepfather and the opposing forces of heaven and h3ll and their machinations.
It’s a whole lot of converging plot threads and Des Sweet has her hands full keeping the details straight. It’s a very interesting and engaging read, and I wish it hadn’t ended in a cliffhanger, but it would’ve probably been about 1,000 pages had the story reached a conclusion. Regardless, I’ll be waiting anxiously for the follow up. I also grew quite frustrated with Mercy’s character for fully the first two thirds of this lengthy novel: in many ways I didn’t feel she was fully formed, and while I appreciate and empathize with her constrained circumstances, she often put other people and beings in danger which seemed more than a little unfair to those trying to assist her.
I was furnished an advance reader copy from the author and Booksirens, and I’m sharing my honest review.
This book is a gothic fever dream in the best way possible. From the moment the “Demon King’s Circus” opens its gates, you know you’re stepping into a story unlike any other—where shadows have teeth, monsters wear masks, and the stakes are literally Heaven versus Hell.
The Prince of Shadows is a fascinating antihero: torn between destiny, duty, and the all-consuming obsession he feels for his mortal bride. The premise—that her willing soul is the only thing that can dethrone his father—sets up such delicious tension. Is it manipulation? Is it love? Or something darker in between? That gray area made me devour every word.
What I loved most was the high-stakes passion. Heaven wants her soul. Hell wants her dead. And yet, the Prince’s vow to burn both realms just to keep her adds that epic, doomed-romance energy that dark romance readers crave. The mix of fate, sacrifice, and obsession gave me chills.
The writing is lush, atmospheric, and dripping with dark magic. If you’re a fan of gothic fantasy, enemies-to-lovers with a twisted edge, or romances where love feels like both salvation and damnation, this one will absolutely haunt you.
Ringmaster was hands down one of the best Romantasy books I have ever read. The way the story was written leaves you guessing and hanging on the edge of your seat until the very end. Yet not wanting it to end. This is a very creepy dark love story. That has you snickering at times. Check the trigger warnings if you have any. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
This is a dark circus story. The Demon King’s Circus actually has a portal to their world right there. Azreal is the Prince of Shadows. Mercy is a young girl, a spectator at the circus. She is entranced by Azrael. The world just seems to melt away each time she sees him. In order for Azrael to claim his spot higher up, he needs a mortal bride. The Ringmaster says it isn’t Mercy and she isn’t his fated bride, but there is a bond between them. Azrael needs her and will protect her no matter what. He needs her to love him and then be willing to die for it. I love the spooky atmosphere around the circus. I’m rooting for Azrael and Mercy all the way through. I’m excited to see where the story goes.
Ringmaster stands out with an intriguing premise as Azrael, a Prince from Hell, seeks his soulmate to save him from a curse and restore balance to the world. The only problem? His demonic heart already belongs to a woman who cannot possibly be his soulmate.
Mercy longs for Azrael, an enigmatic circus performer determined to deny her. Yet she’s desperately drawn to him and desires nothing more than to tame the Lion Tamer’s heart. However, despite her determination, the obstacles to doing so may prove insurmountable.
The premise of Ringmaster has promise. The ideas and setting are unique, while still having a foundation in myths that have beguiled readers for millennia. The story has a well-developed structure and delightful spice as well.
However, while the premise promised a compelling journey, the execution ultimately fell short of its potential. There is conflict woven into the narrative, but it lacks urgency and emotional impact. Some plot points are withheld for dramatic effect, but either never materialize or fail to add meaningful depth when they do.
The characters also need additional development. Mercy's character is flat and meek. She merely seems to exist to love Azrael and serve his needs. Azrael is intriguing. He is a delightfully demonic shadow daddy with a past equally steeped in shadow. Yet without a strong foil or narrative, his characterization is not fully realized.
Ringmaster is the first of a series. If future installments build on the mythic foundation, delve into Mercy's character, and deepen the emotional stakes, Ringmaster could yet evolve into the captivating saga its premise suggests.

The idea of a demon-run circus had me instantly intrigued
But unfortunately the story took a while for me to get into. Mercy lives in an abusive household, with a drunk father and a bruised and victimized mother. Ever since she was a small child her only respite and escape was visiting the big top. There she befriends, then grows infatuated with, Azrael... a demon prince bound by a curse and guided by prophecy to search for his soulmate.
The first 40% of the book (or so) felt like we kept rehashing Mercy's horrific home life and her blind devotion to / infatuation with Azrael, all while he repeatedly pushes her away. It wasn't until Mercy learns the truth of her parentage and Azrael finally claims her as his soulmate that things started to get juicy. There is a lot at stake for them both with various characters trying to manipulate them and influence their choices. There's the titular Ringmaster (Azrael's grandfather?) who seems set on convincing Azrael that Mercy is NOT his soulmate. Then there's Lucifer, continually sending Azrael on missions to find, kill, and return escaped demons to Hell. The three Fates make multiple appearances spouting cryptic riddles and prophecy cloaked as guidance. Plus we have Azrael's father, an unnamed entity who has somehow usurped Lucifer and claimed Hell as his own. It got confusing; I honestly thought Lucifer was Azrael's father for most of the story... The book's final chapters contain revelations about who's who and what's really been going on. No one is who you think they are. When the reveals were made, I actually felt a little cheated... like our heroes were given an "easy pass."
For example, and something I don't think will really count as a spoiler, but if you're worried, skip the rest of this paragraph: Early in the book, we're told that Azrael's mate will have to saccrifice herself in order to break his curse. Okay, juicy concequences. So Mercy is bound to die. But when Azrael claims her as his mate, there's a contract (a "deal with the Devil" if you will) in which she binds / sells her soul to him for all eternity. If she's soul-bound, death becomes meaningless, they're bound together for all eternity. It took away the danger and the gravity of Mercy's choices.
There are definitely some editing snafus in the Kindle version I read (downloaded December 2025) like missing punctuation and more than a few grammatic / syntax errors or missing words. I usually don't mention a few editing blips in my reviews, but there were enough here that I felt I had to say something. In the early chapters there were maybe one or two issues per chapter, but by the latter part of the book I was finding them on almost every other page. They might not bother some readers, but they snapped me out of the story every time I found one... and since I had a hard time connecting with Mercy & Azrael for the first third of the book, they stung even more.
I liked the concept, but the execution was a little underwhelming. Will I read the second book? Yes. I'm a completionist and I'll want to know where the story goes from here. And the cliffhanger ending only serves to amplify that reading trait. It was enjoyable, but it wasn't the dazzling spectacular I'd been hoping for.
It took me a little bit to get into the story but once it started to move along, I was invested. I was glad that Mercy didn't pull the usual FMC behavior when it comes to finding out things about the MMC. That was a lovely surprise. We do have spice but I would have loved more. This is book 1 in a series and does end on a cliffhanger, so be prepared. I am just sad I do not have the next book.
Received an ARC copy for an honest review. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I have yet to read a dark romantasy that takes place at the circus, so it was quite refreshing and entertaining. I loved both Azreal and Mercy and the trails and challenges they both had to face to be with one another. Can never go wrong with a touch her and die shadow daddy. I will say that my only complaint is a showdown between Azreal and a character that was pretending to be someone he's not. It felt so quick and easy. I expected the fight to be more, with the build up they had. All in all, the ending left a dark surprised. Can't wait to read the next book to see what happens next.
It was everything I needed. So good. Demons are a big yes and he was suppose to stay away from Mercy. Azrael and Mercy’s story and character development was just amazing. The ending though I need to know what will happen next
This book is so good! Even though this book centers around a circus, it’s much more than that. We have Demons, the Fates, the Divine and Destiny. Shadows hide the true nature of the circus performers from the mortals inhabiting this small seaside town. Nothing is at it seems to the outside world.
Our MC’s, Azreal and Mercy have known each other since childhood. Mercy’s father demands she stay away from Azreal and the circus. Azreal is forced to stay away from Mercy because he believes he has a destiny to follow in order to break a curse, and that destiny does not involve Mercy. Plus, he’s hiding his true nature and will do whatever he can to protect her. But he’s always watching her. Stealing stolen moments whenever their paths cross, always giving her a marigold. Everything that Azreal and Mercy have been told is not necessarily true. As the story unfolds, truths are revealed, and sacrifices are made. I loved everything about this book! Azreal and Mercy are perfect together. I found myself rooting for them from the beginning. You can feel the love they have for each other with every look, every word, every touch. The secondary characters are a welcomed addition to this story. I’m intrigued by Zora, and I absolutely loved Marblas and his connection with Azreal and the protective nature he feels for Mercy. The world building was so good! Des took the time needed to describe the other realms, the backstory of many of the characters and how they interact with each other. The twists had me turning the pages faster, needing to know what happens next. Ringmaster does not have a lot of spice, but the spice we do get is so good! 🔥
I can’t wait for the next installment of this series! I still have lots of questions from Ringmaster and the cliffhanger left me wanting more. If you’re looking for a book with a gothic vibe mixed with the paranormal, then pick this one up. You won’t be disappointed!
Welcome to the Demon King’s Circus—a place where the shadows writhe and dance with seduction, where monsters lurk in every dark corner, and the gateway to Hell never truly closes. This is not just a spectacle; it’s a battleground of souls, a realm where every heartbeat thunders with the promise of chaos and forbidden love.
They call me the Prince of Shadows—destined to reclaim what my father’s treachery stole from me. But my quest is more than just revenge; it’s an obsession fueled by the burning desire to possess her. I will find my mortal bride, the one whose love can shatter worlds, and I will make her see that our union is inevitable. I will bend her to my will, and in her surrender, I will make her love me—despite the darkness that threatens to consume us.
And when I whisper the truth—that she must die to forge our bond—her willing soul becomes my greatest weapon. Only then can the blood oath bind us in shadow, tipping the delicate scales of power and casting my father from his crooked throne. Heaven screams for her, demanding her soul; hell roars for her destruction. Yet, I would burn both realms to the ground to save her—my obsession, my curse, my salvation.
She was mine long before the demons came for her. The Fates themselves conspired to gift her to me—a beacon of light amidst the darkness—that last flicker of hope in a suffocating world of shadows. She is my destiny, the last illumination of my tormented existence.
To save her, to claim her heart and her soul, she must join us in the abyss. For in her death, there’s rebirth—a chance to rewrite fate and ignite a love so fierce it threatens to obliterate everything in its path.
This isn’t just a story; it’s a fierce, blood-soaked love torn from the depths of darkness, where curses clash with magic, and the very essence of protection and destruction collide. Prepare to be consumed.
Des Sweet you can't put us through all that, give us joy and then end it on a cliff hanger like that? 😭 Well that definitely was crazy circus experience. The world building was so descriptive, I felt I was there experiencing it all 1st hand. It makes sense why the book is 500+ pages. I'm usually not patient with long books but this consumed me so much I didn't even realise I was nearly finished. Dark paranormal circus romance, what more could you want. Azrael is the Prince of Shadow and he needs to find his Mortal mate for sacrifice. To break the curse his father has caused. I loved his power and darkness but when it came to Mercy he instantly becomes soft. However Mercy isn't his mate, so his grandfather keeps telling him. Mercy is a sweet gentle soul that lives in fear due to her abusive father. She has been through a lot and yet she still seems to stay positive. One thing she can deny is her friendship and connection with Azrael. But she has been forbidden to be near him. She is so much stronger than everyone thinks and her love for Azrael concurs all. I loved seeing her character growth into power being. Wow, the twists and secrets keep coming and I'm sitting here with my jaw open every time! Haha. Not as much as Spice I usually find in Des' books but it was still fulfilling. I really hope next one isn't too long and we get more Spice. If paranormal romantasy is your thing then do not miss these. To be honest it's not a genre I read too much but I absolutely loved it and devoured it. So it's really for everyone to love.
This book takes the whole "star-crossed lovers" thing and dials it up to eleven, throwing in demons, destiny, and the Divine just to complicate shit. At its core, it’s the story of Azrael and Mercy, two people who have been tangled up since childhood but are constantly being pulled apart by outside forces. He’s got this intense destiny he has to follow, and she’s trying to navigate a rough home life, all while a literal demonic circus operates just a few blocks away. You can feel the chemistry between them in every stolen glance and secret moment. What makes this book so good is that no one seems to be telling the truth. Azrael believes he has a fixed path that doesn’t include Mercy, and everyone in her life is pushing her to stay away from the circus. As the story unfolds, you realize that their lives are built on a shaky foundation of lies and manipulation. Watching them try to find their way back to each other, despite all the forces conspiring against them, is incredibly compelling and makes for a killer page-turner. Beyond the main romance, the book is packed with fascinating secondary characters and a deeply detailed world. Sweets spends the time needed to flesh out the different realms and backstories, making the whole thing feel huge. It’s a beautifully written dark paranormal fantasy that will grab your attention and refuse to let go, all the way through a jaw-dropping ending. Cant wait to see what happens.
This gets a good 4 from me. The idea of this books is super interesting. Something new to my reading world. I have read other books with these type of characters but the way the author made the story and created the world, this is a new story line for me. It starts off with a couple star crossed lovers where the “ringmaster” doesn’t want the MMC to be with the MFC. This book is on the slow side but it kept me engaged while it worked the story behind both main characters and supporting characters. This book goes through their fate and as the book continues, it brings back premonitions from prior scenes in the book. The MMC brings the “touch her and die” vibe. There is a lot of slow burn moments for sure with this book. And then toward the end to find out who is actually who is shocking. The author does a great job with bringing the story together and touches on biblical ideas/people. There is Lucifer as a main person so if you’re not into this type of book, I wouldn’t read it. I can’t wait for the next book to come out as it left on a cliff hanger. I’m glad I was able to get my hands on this before it comes out for my review. It would be one I would read again to find more hidden eggs I missed.
Mercy felt the Demon King’s Circus was an escape from the real world, an escape from her father's anger and dislike of her. She met Azreal there, and he made her feel safe and seen, something he never had at home. He was the only good thing in her life, so she was mad and hurt when he stopped talking to her, at her father's wishes.
Even though she's upset at Azreal, Mercy still sneaks into the circus to see him. He still offers a feeling of comfort and peace. , hiding behind others to see the show - to see him; to feel at home. Azreal, King of Shadows, is next in line to be the Ringmaster but wants nothing to do with it.
I was drawn into the story and kept wanting to know more. It's heavy on the world-building, so I did find it slow at times (especially in the middle), but it did also develop the MC's relationship, which I loved. They were perfect for each other. I could feel the never-ending love that they had for each other - it seeped through the pages. And when the spice hit, it was super steamy and sensual.
When the Ringmaster tells Azreal that Mercy is not his one true love and that his fate is to take over when he's gone, things slowly start to reveal themselves, and secrets are starting to emerge!
There were a lot of twists and turns, suspense, action, drama, love, romance, sacrifice and more!
Can't wait for book 2!

This is the first time I've read a paranormal romance centered around a circus, and I loved it! It allows for so many things to become possible and lends itself to chaos and magic on a large scale. Azrael's love for Mercy is immense, endless, and is the driving force behind almost everything he does. If you ever wanted someone committed to being in your corner, it would be him! Mercy has a bunch to learn and make life-altering decisions about, but Azrael was always someone important to her and could never stop thinking about. Their journey is one of trials, tribulations, love, and dedication. There are many layers and plots woven together. The sheer amount of riddles, half-answers, and deception eventually became overwhelming for me. I felt like I no longer fully understood what some characters were saying and what it all meant. Beyond that, though, it was a story unlike anything else I've read, and I was pulled into their world right from the start. My heart would get heavy when happiness was found for both or either of them because I knew it would change eventually. Quite the cliffhanger, too!
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I received this book as an arc and this is my honest opinion.
Beware of the circus because this is not an ordinary one, this is the Demon king’s circus. In here there’s a beautiful young boy called Azrael that every girls drools for him but his heart has already been taken by a common girl named Mercy.
They’re love is forbidden for many reasons, he’s the Prince of shadows and his destiny is to convince his mate to die for him so he can claim the realm his father stole, Azrael will do anything to protect her because she’s his and his alone. 🎪🖤💀
(Opinion spoilers)
The book was well written but the final act was a bit too fast in how it was all in a few days for the characters with mercy just finding her powers and the next day having to die.
I thought maybe there should have been more flashbacks of mercy in the circus, Azrael mostly appeared for being a monster and wanted to know more about the circus and how they meet.
Then another point is there were a lot of test for both of them it was a bit tedious always asking if they wanted to be together THEY ALREADY SAID YES LET THEM BE.
Lastly I’m devastated for mercy’s mom, she couldn’t even be happy after leaving her home.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I enjoyed the gothic vibes of this one! As a person who has always been a little wary of clowns, the fact that the backdrop for a large part of this story is a circus only adds to the dark, sinister feeling I got while reading.
I was drawn into the story very early on and was so curious to see what was the deal with the FMC , Mercy, and MMC, Azrael’s, relationship. Was this going to be just another story of unrequited love? I will assure you here that it is not.
The relationship between Azrael and the Ringmaster was mesmerizing to me. The push and pull of their power dynamic was fun to see. The magic /and paranormal elements that were incorporated into the story only increased the entertainment provided by the plot. Shadows, blood rites, the Underworld, winged creatures, razor sharp fangs, telepathic animals, fated mates, and Lucifer himself had me so wrapped up in the action that when I turned the page of my Kindle and saw the words “The End.” I yelled out loud in frustration (the good kind), because I wasn’t paying attention to how much was left in the book and I wanted more.
This one ends on a cliffhanger, amid a battle of the good guys and the bad guys . So, needless to say, but I’m looking forward to book 2 to continue this adventure!
I requested this read as I love all the premises of demons, romance, and circus/carnival vibes. Make sure to check the trigger warnings, and it does end on a cliffhanger.
While it was a bit more slow moving that I would have preferred, it was an interesting take on paranormal romance that also has so many back stories and elements to make your emotions/head spin. The riddles and various detail at times became slightly confusing, but overall the plot, world building, and characters kept me engaged to where I was able to enjoy this read. I did enjoy that the mfc didn’t do the normal push and pull when discovering the truths of our mmc. They held that more “I take you as you are and as you love” vibes. And while the mmc may seem like a villian, he definitely wasn’t the toxic villian. Though I wish the mfc was held accountable more as it seemed like so many had to pay for her when trying to help her. I wish there was more spice, but it was still amazingly written! Overall this wasn’t what I expected in a demon/circus romance book. It leaned more towards an actual love story that is ment to defy what you think it holds.
Thank you to the author and booksirens for this digital arc :)
I really wanted to love this book and honestly, I still liked it; just not in the way I hoped I would. The author’s writing style is truly beautiful; her prose flows effortlessly, and the world she created is imaginative and rich with potential. You can tell she put her heart and mind into every detail of this universe, and that creative spark is something I genuinely admire.
That said, I struggled to fully connect with the characters. The FMC’s actions and reactions didn’t always make sense to me, and there were moments where I found myself frustrated rather than empathetic. The MMC, while interesting, spent a lot of time reminding us how evil he was and after a while, it felt repetitive. I didn’t need to be told so often; his actions and demeanor already painted that picture perfectly.
Despite my mixed feelings, I know many readers will absolutely adore this story especially those who love morally grey characters and complex dynamics. It’s one of those books that clearly had passion behind it, and while it just wasn’t the perfect fit for me, I can still appreciate the talent and thought that went into bringing this world to life.
This book absolutely consumed me. From the very first chapter, I was pulled into a world of magic, demons, death, and betrayal—and I couldn’t look away. The author doesn’t just tell a story, they make you feel it: the danger, the heartbreak, the impossible choices, and the sparks of hope that shine even in the darkest moments.
What struck me most was the way love is woven into all the chaos. It’s not easy, soft, or predictable—it’s raw, hard-won, and so powerful it feels like its own kind of magic. I found myself rooting for the characters with every turn of the page, aching with them when they broke, and holding my breath as they fought to survive both enemies and their own inner demons.
This book has everything I crave in a dark fantasy—betrayals that gut you, battles that keep your heart racing, and a romance that makes all the pain worth it. By the time I reached the final page, I felt wrung out, haunted, and completely in love with the story. If you’re looking for something that will break you and heal you in the same breath, this is the one.
OMG!! I loved this!! It's Mercy & Azrael's story & it was awesome!! There's a lot happening here, Mercy has found out some things that have really rocked her world. Her step-father lets her know that he's arranging a marriage for her, (he's not a nice man) & obviously that's upsetting for her. They've known each other for a while & he's been keeping watch over her when they re-connect. This story was awesome! Lots of supernatural elements going on here; he's part of a circus & a lot of things happen there; a lot of secrets that they keep from the mortals. Both of them have sacrifices to make, decisions that have far reaching consequences, & they also have to fight all the machinations going on in both the mortal & supernatural world. This was a very in-depth story about how far each of them will go for the other. She finds out a lot of things about her life that's been kept from her & has some difficult decisions to make & how dangerous it will be. I loved this story & the spice was fantastic!! Highly recommend this book & author!!
What a fantastic escape from reality! I was completely transported to a magical dark paranormal world with demons and angels. I was absorbed by this fantastic story and its incredible characters. Des Sweet has quickly become a favorite author of mine with the way she describes and builds worlds such as this one that are thrilling and exciting.

I just have to take a moment to say how completely obsessed I am with Azrael. Wow, he is the morally grey anti-hero shadow daddy of my dreams. Big time swooning.
I'm thrilled to have picked up this book. I'm so invested in the fated mates getting their HEA. I'm still reeling from that cliffhanger and can't wait for the second part of this love story.
I was sold on this book to read just by someof the tropes it said. I read the synapsis and thought I have to read this. I love the storytelling! You could tell it was a well thought out plot and the way she wrote the characters made us feel and love most of the characters. The ones we were suppose to question and I definitely was doing so. It was bugging me as to who azareals dad was and how the ringmaster fit in. It took me longer than I was hoping to finish it and I apologize for that since this was an arc. The further I got into the story the more I wanted. I'm glad it wasn't broken up into more than one book even though it definitely could have been. I am hoping there will be more to go with this book especially with the way it ended and if there are I look forward to reading the next one. It'll definitely be a must read for me!
Ringmaster is the first book in The Kingdom of Shadow and Bone duet. This is the first time I’ve read a PN romance from Des and I was really looking forward to it as I’ve absolutely loved everything of Des’s that I have read so far. This one does not disappoint!! This dark circus romance is so much more than that and is Azrael and Mercy’s story. Even though Azrael and Mercy have known each other since childhood and love each other, they are kept apart by interfering forces. However, that does not stop Azrael from watching over and protecting Mercy. As the story unfolds, we discover not everything they have been told is true. Secrets are revealed, truths are told, and sacrifices are made. This is a very in-depth story about how far they will go for the one they love. Can’t wait to see what comes next!!!
An unusual twist on a circus-themed dark romance - this circus has demons, and our MMC is one of them.
Our FMC, Mercy, has grown up seeing the MMC, Azrael, at the circus near her home. She has grown up alongside him, considering him a friend and then a love interest - but her father put an end to that quickly, and when Azrael walked away from her, Mercy thought it was the end. But there are many things Mercy doesn't know about Azrael's world - and as they reconnect and she finds out more, the emotional connection builds.
The love and acceptance and the fated mates-type aspect of the story makes this connection interesting to read. Their struggle to protect each other and fight for their love makes this a memorable story.
We do get a little long here - this is >500 pages and ends in a cliffhanger - but I can't wait for book 2!
