Once upon a time, a little girl in a red hood set off to bring a basket of goodies to her grandmother. Her mother told her not to stray from the path, but how could she resist when she met Cinderella by the riverside, lamenting that she couldn't go to the ball? Or when she found Hansel and Gretel right after both the witch's and their stepmother's demises?

This delightful fractured fairy tale casts Red as a detective, straying from the path to solve the crimes presented by fairy tale characters or in fairy tales themselves (the death of the candy witch has been reframed as a murder mystery a surprising number of times), and while it's more Scooby-Doo than Agatha Christie, it's also a whole lot of fun. Aoyagi's writing takes into consideration the best-known versions of the tales and twists them ever so slightly, and the art does a beautiful job of calling to mind old illustrated collections of folklore. I do think Cinderella and Gretel were a punished a bit too harshly given their circumstances, but I can still see how Aoyagi got there.

At its core, this series seems to understand that the real dangers in the world aren't wolves or stepfamilies - it's the darkness that people harbor in their hearts.

Ich lieb ja Märchen - und Krimi gehen auch immer! Beides in Kombination kann ja nur gut werden, oder!? Tatsächlich fand ich den Trailer zum Live Action Film dazu nicht gerade überzeugend.. 🫣 aber! In Manga-Form funktioniert das für mich wunderbar! Rotkäppchen ist unterwegs, um Kekse abzuliefern - doch auf ihrem Weg kommt sie öfter mal auf Abwegen und stolpert über Leichen oder in Verbrechen hinein. Sie begegnet anderen Märchen-Charakteren, die unterschiedliche Seiten von sich preisgeben. So rätselt man zusammen mit Rotkäppchen, um dem wahren Mörder auf die Spur zu kommen und ihn zu überführen! So tappt man im ersten Mordfall zunächst komplett im Dunkeln, bekommt man im zweiten den Täter schon direkt auf dem Tablet serviert - jedoch muss man an anderer Stelle sein Köpfchen anstrengen. Und wie es immer so ist: an der spannendsten Stelle hört der Band auf! 😱 Sehr böse, aber auch raffiniert gelöst - denn so muss man doch einfach zum nächsten greifen!? 👀
Auf mich trifft das jedenfalls zu, denn ich will unbedingt wissen, wie es aufgelöst wird! Ebenso bin ich gespannt, was für weitere Fälle auf Rotkäppchen warten und wem sie noch alles begegnet! Wenn ihr also ebenso auf Märchen und Krimi steht, dann greift auf jeden Fall zu dem Band und lest mal rein!

Durant ma lecture, la première partie avec cendrillon me disait vraiment quelque chose, et je me suis rendue compte par la suite que j’avais vu le film éponyme, et que ça expliquait ma sensation étrange de « déjà vu ».

Concernant la partie avec Hansel et Gretel, c’était une totale découverte!

J’ai beaucoup aimé. J’ai trouvé que c’était un manga simple, avec une histoire plutôt sympa à découvrir. J’aime beaucoup les références aux contes originaux, et aussi les intrigues qui ont été placées!

WOW!

This book was amazing! It delivered a murderous twist (not a dark twist because fairytales are already dark) to our beloved fairytales…
So good! Can’t wait for the next part…
