Note: I received a copy of this arc through Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

I love devotionals, bible studies - anything that I can get my hands on that will teach me more about the Lord (I'm also partial to Paul as well). I need to clarify my opening statement a little - I do have some criteria that needs to be met before I just jump in and grab anything off a shelf. There are many false prophets out there today writing some strange stuff. "Stand Firm" met my criteria and gave me some different things to think about while reading Paul's letter to the Phillipians, which was written while he was in prison; TO ANSWER THE AUTHOR'S QUESTION THAT HE POSED IN THE INTRODUCTION as to whether or not Paul's "ancient words and two-thousand-year-old ideas lead us to positive improvements in our lives today?" A RESOUNDING YES!! Paul's letters are remarkable and this one is no exception.

Mr. Branon starts every chapter with an individual verse of Phillipians and then tells the reader what they should know about the verse itself. He then goes on to tell the reader what Paul would have been talking about in today's language. The reader is then asked the questions of "How do these verses help me stand Firm?" and "What has to change?" Examples of answers to these questions are given, but what he would really like the reader to do is go into their own life and answer those questions.
This study is easy to read and makes Paul's letter a little easier to understand as well. Definitely worth reading!

The first thing Brannon points out in this book that Phillipians is a letter penned by a man who did something bad enough to get him imprisoned. The reason Paul was imprisoned or put under house arrest was that he was spreading the gospel, sharing it with those who needed it.

Brannon describes prayer as a spiritual discipline that leads to joy and to an amazing connection between us and God.  He points out the dangers of getting wrapped up in what Brannon calls super star Christianity.

We are reminded too of the dangers of over confidence in a singular interpretation of a singular book in the Bible like those who claim to know the exact moment Christ will return.  We are also remined that it is important that we have a Christ like attitude.

I would recommend this book be added to your collection of Bible Study tools.

Five out of five stars for a book that will help you dig deeper into the book of Phillipians.

The entire Epistle of Philippians is only four chapters. Yet Dave Branon gets 48 Bible studies for every Christian from this ancient teaching. As a reader, you can dig into each study since it is only two verses.

Dave helps you understand the background for the verses in "What You Need to Know." Next, he provides a short contemporary insight or devotion to the passage. Then in the third section, Dave helps you apply the verses to your life in the section, "How Do These Verses Help Me Stand Firm?" In the final short section, Dave helps you look at "What Has to Change?"

The Christian life isn't a destination but it's a journey and a process. STAND FIRM provides 48 studies to help you be better equipped to face each day. Whether you use it as a devotional book for yourself or in a small group study. I love the energy and thoughtful study poured into this volume and highly recommend it.

I find comfort and challenges when reading the Book of Philippians, so when I found this book, I really wanted to read it.

This devotional is easy to read and takes the reader through Philippians by looking at the verses so the reader can see what is being said. Through the 48 devotionals, the reader gains a better understanding the letters. Dave Branon did an excellent job with this study.

I was given this book by NetGalley and Discovery House Publishing in exchange for my honest review.
