Jessica Day George's very magical, very exclusive HOLIDAYS AT THE CASTLE: A TUESDAYS AT THE CASTLE SHORT STORY, is available FREE. Just click, and the story will download ... a bit like magic, no? http://media.bloomsbury.com/rep/files...
Jessica Day George likes chocolate, knitting, books, travel, movies, dragons, horses, dogs, and her family. These are all things to keep in mind if you ever meet her. For instance, you could bring her chocolate to make the meeting go more smoothly. You could also talk about how adorable her children are, even if you have never seen them. You could discuss dog breeds (she had a Maltese named Pippin, and grew up with a poodle mix and a Brittany Spaniel. Right now she has a Coton de Tulear named Sunny). You could talk about Norway, and how it's the Greatest Place On Earth, and Germany, The Second Greatest Place On Earth. You could ask her about yarn, and indicate a willingness to learn to knit your own socks, if you can't already do so.
And, well, you could talk about books. Jessica's books, other people's books. It's really all about the books. To paraphrase Jerry Seinfeld: Friends, family, school, they were just obstacles in the way of getting more books.
She would like it if books came with chocolate to eat while reading them.
This was a lovely book. I have been slowly enjoying this series and reading this SUPER short "book" that you can download for free and read was the perfect ending to my 2021 Ultimate Popsugar Reading Challenge.
A Wonderful short story (book) about the Castle Glower and how it changes. This time how it changes for Christmas and how it creates the food and cleans up for 5 feasts over the Christmas holidays.
A fun read and makes me want to order the next book in the series that I have to read... but that will have to wait as I need to read the Christmas book for my book club and try to fit in 2 other books before the end of the year. This series would be a GREAT read aloud for a family of all ages!
I am planning to read Wires and Nerve book one and two the very last books of the Lunar Chronicles series... Graphic Novels that should be a quick read and enjoyable. I rarely read Graphic Novels ... they are not my thing... but I will make exceptions when it is for a series as GREAT as the Lunar Chronicles.
2021 Ultimate Popsugar Reading Challenge prompt(s) – #42 - The shortest book (by pages) on your TBR {only 13 pages including the title page and cover and a advertisement at the end for the other books in the series... only 10 pages to read}
I loved this short story about Castle Glower during the Winter Feast holidays. The Castle creates a special magic feasting room, and everyone prepares to party and feast for several days. The princesses have new dresses for each feast day, and the royal family purchases gifts and presents for everyone. Princess Celie is worried that her older brother, Bran, will be too busy with his new Royal Wizard duties to attend the feast. If Celie can't celebrate with her entire family, her perfect holiday will be ruined. But Bran has a surprise in store that will change the holidays forever.
This was a very short story. Just a little snippet of Castle life, but with all the things I love about the Castle Glower series. The royal family and especially the royal siblings working together as a close-knit and loving family. The magical Castle and all the corridors and rooms moving around. Princess Celie being so lovable and cute.
I enjoyed this very much, and I only wish it were a bit longer!
Cute, but oh-so-very short. Still, it's a nice one to read this time of year, and I'm glad I found it when I did. Although...it does lose something when you've read the rest of the series and know all about the Holiday Feasting Hall. I recommend reading it after the first book, NOT after the fifth! lol
The Holidays are magical at Glower Castle! Celie is looking forward to this holiday because Bran is home. But will Bran be too busy as the castle's wizard to attend the Holiday feasts?
I read this short story which is free on Jessica Day George's site after I had read all the books. It does change the experience knowing how the holiday feasting hall comes be be decorated each year. I would recommend reading it between the first and second book for maximum enjoyment. Then if you want reread it after finishing the series and you will find it is different. I did still enjoy it and I was glad for another story about the Glower family and the Castle.
Middle Grade Fantasy, short story, part of a series. It was great fun to discover this short story, about one of the most memorable settings I have ever read about-- Casrle Glower. Celie is looking forward to the holiday feasting, especially since her brother Bran is finally home from Wizard school. But her siblings inform her that Royal Wizards are quite busy and Bran might not even attend the feast! Celie heads to the first night of feasts with low expectations, but the castle has magic in mind for her yet!
It was a good side story to accompany the Castle Glower series. I read it for free online in about 10 minutes. It gives you a better idea of what holidays are like at the castle, and tells the story of Celie's excitement of having her brother Bran home for the holidays. He is now the royal wizard, and Celie is expecting to have the greatest holiday feast yet, full of fireworks and illusions courtesy of Bran...
A cute super short story (13 pages) that compliments the series. Having read some of the future books first, it makes some of the traditions a little more meaningful which was fun. Glad I found this one!
Short and sweet, a little predictable but still fun with our favorite characters and whimsical for the holiday season. Find the PDF for free online. Just about 10 pages to read with the kids on a snowy afternoon.
What a fun addition to the series! A sweet and charming holiday story to get us in the spirit of togetherness. Celie is worried that Bran won't attend the winter holiday feasts when EVERYONE, including the servants, all eat and celebrate together. And how lovely that the story is available free!
