The Way of Rest

Rate this book
This book is for followers of Jesus who are feeling “off” in their faith. They know there is something more, but they can’t quite grasp it. They keep bumping up against themselves or others. They may feel lonely and unseen and may feel misunderstood. They long for companionship, clarity, and a way out of the weariness. They love the Lord; they love the Lord’s people, yet they're bone tired and quietly asking, “Where is this abundant life?” The Way of Rest journey gently reminds it’s still here—and so is He.

The Way of Rest invites readers on a discipleship journey to live from their rest in Christ rather than striving for it. The journey begins by acknowledging spiritual weariness and inviting the reader to personally reflect on God’s first recorded question in the “Where are you?” From this starting point, readers learn to hear and respond to God’s voice with the intended goal of de-accumulation from unnecessary burdens. The reader continues the journey deep into rest, invited to explore the secret places of their heart with the Lord, strengthening the bond between child and heavenly Father and then moves to the horizontal relationships of engaging or reengaging in community with others. The journey begins with entering His rest and culminates in a joyful anthem of praise, as we learn to live from that rest in our Prince of Peace. Prepare to take in the breathtakingly beautiful. What we can see and experience when we are at rest is profound.

A Must-Read for Anyone Carrying More Than They Should Be

This book was exactly what my soul needed.

Way of Rest isn’t just a call to slow down, it’s a tender and timely reminder that rest is sacred, not selfish. Cheryl Scanlan writes with both deep spiritual insight and lived experience. She doesn't just talk about rest theoretically, she walks you into it with care and conviction.

As someone who often leads, serves, and pours out, this book gave me permission to stop striving and start receiving. I found myself highlighting entire sections, pausing to reflect, and genuinely feeling seen.

If you’re in a season of burnout, transition, or simply know you can’t keep going at the pace you’ve been, this book is for you.
