Newton Webb has done it again—Tales of the Macabre, Vol. 4 had me alternating between laughing, cringing, and outright clutching my armrest like it could save me from the horrors within. Fifteen twisted, inventive stories, and every single one hit its mark.
From the sheer absurdity of Invasion of the Hipster Beards (who knew beards could be terrifying?) to the darkly hilarious terror of The Dead Man’s Trousers, Webb proves he can make you gasp and giggle in the same sentence. The Spinster had me holding my breath while secretly cheering, and Gomorrah transported me to a haunted vicarage so vivid I could almost smell the decay.
What I adore about Webb’s work is how he effortlessly blends psychological horror, folk legends, and just enough dark comedy to keep you on your toes. Each tale has its own flavor, yet the collection flows with a cohesive sense of dread and unpredictability that kept me hooked from start to finish.
If you love horror that surprises, unsettles, and occasionally makes you snort in disbelief, this collection is pure gold. I’m officially obsessed and already wishing for Vol. 5.

15 short stories that tingle the reader's spine and deliver some carefully crafted twists to keep the reader on their toes.
An excellent selection of scary shorts covering a variety of historic periods and sub-genre. All-in-all a really fun read for the horror fan and those that just want to be entertained.

If you enjoy short horror story anthologies, especially ones that change settings and era, this book is for you. It is a collection of 15 short stories covering different times and places. A very entertaining read if you like tales of the spooky and supernatural.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book which was a combination of short stories that gave me the chills, kept me on the edge and left me emotionally unsettled. The stories will linger on your mind long after the completion of this book. Very good read!.

What imagination! I loved these tales. Many stayed with me long after I was done reading. If you love short horror stories, this collection is not to be missed.

This was yet another fantastic and fun set of 15 tales from Newt! There is something here for every horror fan, we go from ancient Romans to Germans with mysterious presences to 21st century raves that can go wrong in many unexpected and unpleasant ways. If you enjoy creepy and unsettling stories, this book is for you. I really enjoyed this collection of short stories, which gave me the chills, and kept me on the edge, and also left me emotionally unsettled. These tales will tend to linger in your mind long after you finish the book. it was a perfect read for a spooky night!
