Paul was born in Toledo, Ohio to Bob and Fae Tripp on November 12, 1950. Paul spent all of his growing years in Toledo until his college years when his parents moved to Southern California.
At Columbia Bible College from 1968-1972, (now Columbia International University) Paul majored in Bible and Christian Education. Although he had planned to be there for only two years and then to study journalism, Paul more and more felt like there was so much of the theology of Scripture that he did not understand, so he decided to go to seminary. Paul met Luella Jackson at College and they married in 1971. In 1971, Paul took his first pastoral position and has had a heart for the local church ever since. After college, Paul completed his Master of Divinity degree at the Reformed Episcopal Seminary (now known as Philadelphia Theological Seminary) in Philadelphia (1972-1975). It was during these days that Paul’s commitment to ministry solidified. After seminary, Paul was involved in planting a church in Scranton, Pennsylvania (1977-1987) where he also founded a Christian School. During the years in Scranton, Paul became involved in music, traveling with a band and writing worship songs. In Scranton, Paul became interested in biblical counseling and decided to enroll in the D.Min program in Biblical Counseling at Westminster Theological Seminary, Philadelphia. Paul then became a faculty member of the Christian Counseling and Education Foundation (CCEF) and a lecturer in biblical counseling at Westminster Theological Seminary, Philadelphia. Paul has also served as Visiting Professor at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky.
In 2009, Paul joined the faculty of Redeemer Seminary (daughter school of Westminster) in Dallas, Texas as Professor of Pastoral Life and Care.[1]
Beginning in June, 2006, Paul became the President of Paul Tripp Ministries, a non-profit organization, whose mission statement is "Connecting the transforming power of Jesus Christ to everyday life." In addition to his current role as President of Paul Tripp Ministries, on January 1, 2007, Paul also became part of the pastoral staff at Tenth Presbyterian Church in Philadelphia, PA where he preached every Sunday evening and lead the Ministry to Center City through March, 2011 when he resigned due to the expanding time commitments needed at Paul Tripp Ministries.
Paul, Luella, and their four children moved to Philadelphia in 1987 and have lived there ever since. Paul is a prolific author and has written twelve books on Christian living which are sold internationally. Luella manages a large commercial art gallery in the city and Paul is very dedicated to painting as an avocation.[2] Paul’s driving passion is to help people understand how the gospel of the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ really does speak with practical hope into all the things they will face in this broken world. Paul is a pastor with a pastor’s heart, a gifted speaker, his journey taking him all over the world, an author of numerous books on practical Christian living, and a man who is hopelessly in love with Luella.

Paul David Tripp’s latest work, 12 Truths Every Teen Can Trust, is an edifying and theologically sound devotional that is well-suited to teens. The writing style is clear and concise. It remains accessible to the average reader, avoiding overly complex theological language. The book provides an excellent summary of the most important topics in Christian theology. Tripp faithfully distills the core doctrine of Scripture, drawing from the historic creeds and confessions of the Christian faith. This book is not only educational but practical. I found Tripp’s discussion questions to be thought-provoking and relevant. I would recommend this book to young Christians who are looking to grow in their understanding of the Bible.

I received an Advance Reader Copy through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

The world is scrambling for real truth, and this book here will help you find truth. I am a big fan of Paul David Tripp’s books. He is a solid, trusted pastor and writer. Therefore, I am excited to share his new book that was recently released!!

“The way you think, what you desire, the things you say, the decision you make, and the actions you take are all shaped by the story you tell yourself.”

“There is one story that is better than any story you and I could ever tell ourselves. It is the story that God tells us in His Word.”

Paul David Tripp has written another must-read book, especially for teens – 12 Truths Every Teen Can Trust – Core Beliefs of the Christian Faith That Will Change Your Life. This book covers 12 core Biblical truths that teach you who God is, what life is about, who you are, what went wrong in our world, and how it will get fixed. The Bible is where you will find out where we get our personal identity, meaning, purpose from, and more.

Tripp uses summaries from the Westminster Confession of Faith, which are historical doctrines of truths of the Christian faith from the 17th century based on God’s Word. He then provides Bible passages and seven points that help you understand the doctrine for each of the twelve truths that cover core beliefs we should believe about God and what the Bible says.

What We Believe, Why We Believe It, and How It Matters:

Scripture
God
God’s Holiness
God’s Sovereignty
God’s Power
God’s Creation
God’s Image
Sin
Justification
Sanctification
Perseverance and Glorification
Eternity

I would suggest reading this book with your teens and discussing it together. Each of the 12 Truths have seven points that I would suggest reading each one as a daily read and then focusing on the Scripture and the application Tripp provides at the end of each of the How It Matters section. However, if you are not able to do that, this book could be read on their own, as he makes it very accessible to understand.

This would also make a great gift to give a new teen believer or for those teens and families that desire to understand God more from His Word.

Many thanks to Crossway Publishers for providing this book for review! Opinions are 100% my own! I did receive the product in exchange for this review and post.

An Exceptional Guide-

In a time when our Christian beliefs are continually distorted, challenged and debased, it is important to know what we believe and why. 12 Truths is rich in prompted, thoughtful reflection, teaching us how to solidify doctrine.

The twelve truths include these topics: Scripture, God, God’s Holiness, God’s Sovereignty, God’s Power, God’s Creation, God’s Image, Sin, Justification, Sanctification, Perseverance & Glorification, and Eternity. Tripp expounds on what we believe, why we believe(with Scripture references) and how it matters using seven roughly one to two page devotions, a Scripture for the day and a question to ponder for each topic.

Although this book is geared toward teens, there is much we can all learn from Tripp’s descriptions, analogies and scriptural foundations for these truths. It is a book to use in ministry and personally, reread and share.

I received this book from the author/publisher free of charge, with no expectation of a positive review.
