She’s still the girl he fell for. He’s still the boy she broke.
Three years ago, Maisy Hart walked away from everything—her Olympic dreams, the mountain she grew up on, and the love of her life. A career-ending skiing accident left her nearly paralyzed, and in the wreckage she pushed Sterling away. Better to lose him than let him watch her fall apart.
Sterling Fox never stopped loving Maisy, but when she broke up with him, he let her go, walking away from his own pro snowboarding dreams in the process. He’s spent the last three years running from Bluewater Bluffs, carrying the guilt of her accident, convinced her crash was his fault
Until a freak snowstorm drives him back.
When Sterling’s best friend, who's also Maisy’s older brother, offers him a job teaching snowboarding at the family resort for one month, Sterling agrees, only to realize he’ll be sharing a roof with Maisy and teaching her, of all people, how to snowboard.
Between the pull of attraction and the secrets they never said out loud, keeping their distance feels impossible. One promise to her brother stands between them and the second chance they both want. But before they can fight for forever, Maisy has to confess the real reason she walked away, and Sterling has to stop blaming himself for the accident that tore them apart.

After being away from Bluewater Bluffs for three years Sterling returns to help his friend Levi. Upon arrival he discovers that he will be staying in the same house as Levi’s sister Maisy, his ex. Neither of them expected this and on top of that a snowstorm hits.
The snow-covered mountains and the one-on-one lessons Sterling gives Maisy make the story feel intimate and cozy. 'Blame the Blizzard' follows two perspectives Sterling and Maisy allowing readers to experience their thoughts and internal struggles up close. Their shared past and unexpected proximity create awkward but compelling moments. Sparks fly between them and the witty playful dialogue keeps the story light and charming despite the underlying tension.
Tanisha Haedley writes in an accessible direct and contemporary style. The story has a nice pace and her writing makes you feel as if you are right there in the snow. The snowstorm perfectly reflects the chaos and awakening of old feelings between Sterling and Maisy. The story feels warm and heartwarming while the characters’ internal struggles remain realistic. For fans of winter romances and stories where old love finds new fire this is a must read.
A perfect winter romance that warms your heart as the snow falls outside emotional playful and full of sparks.

A perfect novella for the chilly December weather! This was my first time going into Saltwater Springs, and I don’t think it’ll be my last.
Maisy, the former freestyle skiing olympic champion, has decided to take a breather from - well everything. Up at her brother’s cabin in the mountains she expects peace and quiet, but she gets everything BUT that. Enter Sterling, a snowboarding instructor, who also happens to be the one Maisy dumped a while ago… But as it turns out.. snow isn’t the only thing whirling in the air! Sterling gets a job offer from his best friend Levi (Maisy’s brother) & well, his student is not all too happy to see him.
Following this second chance romance, best friend’s little sister & forced proximity novella was simply perfect ❄️ Such a cozy read, but also filled with strong emotions. I felt like this was truly relatable in so many ways.
I tend to have a hard time with novellas simply because a lot of things have to happen quickly but also make sense for the story & not feel too rushed. However Headley managed to balance this out really well, which personally is a plus!
Thank you to the author for giving me the opportunity to read Blame the blizzard as an eARC. I definitely recommend this for readers who are looking for a short winter romance read that is sure to capture your hearts. It’s out on December 19th🤍
Blame the Blizzard by Tanisha Headley was the perfect chilly winter weather esc read! The story is dual POV, forced proximity, brother's best friend, second chance, and so much more. On the plus side, the chapters are as short and sweet as the novella itself. Many thank yous for allowing me to ARC read!
From the start, I had quickly fallen in love with Maisy, Sterling, and their story. It was funny, cute, and everything I could've hoped for. Headley's writing is beautiful, and I know that I need to go and look into the first two books in the series! If you're looking for another cute, quick read to add to your 2025 completed list, then consider checking it out!
4.75⭐️ I received an ARC of Blame the Blizzard (thanks Tanisha)! I know you’re not supposed to judge a book by its cover (I always do), but I seriously love this one (and the rest of the series covers)!
I’m a sucker for a best friend’s brother trope and a good sports romance. Second chance isn’t usually my thing, but I do love when tension builds slowly and intensely before anything actually happens and Tanisha delivers that so well. She writes exactly the kind of stories I gravitate toward: interconnected standalone, sports, tension, banter, and just the right amount of spice. I really enjoyed this novella and struggled to put it down once I started. I would have happily read a full-length novel about these two.
Writing style is a big thing for me and this hit the mark: dual first person POV, smooth pacing, descriptive without dragging, and immersive enough that you feel right there with the characters.
Spoiler/Rant: About the brother… They can’t be together because he says so even after dating three years earlier? Be serious. Their chemistry is obvious, nothing major caused the breakup, and yet he’s still laying down rules? The audacity.
⋆ dual pov ⋆ small town ⋆ snowboarding ⋆ second chance ⋆ forced proximity ⋆ instructor x student ⋆ brothers best friend ____________
Ugh! Gotta love a good novella! Blame the Blizzard is a holiday novella apart of the saltwater springs universe. We follow our FMC Maisy as she takes on snowboarding lessons from not only her brothers best friend but her ex boyfriend and our MMC Sterling as he takes on the role of snowboarding instructor for a month in a town that brings back so many memories. We watch through their eyes as memories come flooding back and tensions begin to rise.
Oh my how I loved these two! Maisy and Sterling are absolutely everything to me and I loved watching them find each other again! Both of their drive to try and stay away from each other just made them coming back together so damn satisfying. Oh and where can I find a Sterling??? Like hello I would like a man that would pin after me for three years!! Ugh just loved that we got to see their story! Also loved the little cameo from some of the other saltwater springs characters!
I have to applaud Tanisha so hard with her books my goodness! She does such and amazing job putting us into the world and making sure we have all the details that we need to paint a full picture! One of the things I find difficult with novellas is that I feel like I’m missing out of crucial details but with this one I felt like it could’ve been a full length book that’s how in detail and how well she writes her books! This was just an amazing little read and I can’t wait to read the next books in this series!
Overall, I had a damn blast with this novella! I would like to thank Tanisha Headly for the amazing ARC and I can’t wait to read more from Tanisha in the future!!🩵🏂❄️
This book is a sports romance with forced proximity, brothers’ best friend/best friends’ sister, second chance, and spice. Despite being under 200 pages, it packs a lot of story into its pages. From the start, it’s clear that neither main character has stopped caring about the other. They’ve never truly moved on. Maisy visits their family ski chalet to be alone and learn how to snowboard, while Sterling accepts Levi’s offer to work there for a month and teach snowboarding. Neither of the main characters knows about the other being there until it’s too late. Levi initially wanted to bring them together to rekindle their friendship, but nothing more since the breakup affected everyone. The two bicker constantly from the beginning and also get jealous when the opposite sex talks or flirts with the other. They clearly still have feelings for each other, but Sterling promised Levi he wouldn’t go there, and Maisy doesn’t feel she should have a right to want him after breaking up with him and pushing him away after her accident. They cross the line a bit here and there. They cross the line fully after a “fake date”, but Maisy says she wants it to just be a friends with benefits thing. They cross the line again after a party Levi throws gets heated. A blizzard hits and leaves them without power and phones and they confess their feelings and Maisy finally tells Sterling the truth on why she broke up with him 3 years ago. Despite the challenges, they manage to find a happy ending. This book was a fast read filled with adorable moments.
Blame the Blizzard is a cozy, wintery second chance sports romance that completely swept me away. I’m a sucker for a best friend’s brother trope and a slow, tension-filled reunion, and Tanisha delivers all of that beautifully. Maisy and Sterling haven’t seen each other in three years, but being trapped in the same chalet during a blizzard brings all the unresolved feelings, longing, and chemistry rushing back.
This novella is the perfect mix of yearning, banter, and just the right amount of spice. The slow burn is so satisfying, with emotional tension that feels earned and realistic. Watching Maisy and Sterling fight their feelings only made their reconnection that much sweeter. Sterling is an absolute standout, kind, patient, and completely gone for Maisy, while Maisy’s journey of healing and self-discovery adds real depth to the story.
Tanisha’s writing style shines here. The dual first person POV, smooth pacing, and immersive detail made this feel like it could have easily been a full-length novel. The snowy mountain setting, forced proximity, and little cameos from the Saltwater Springs universe only added to the charm.
Short, sweet, emotional, and easy to devour, this novella is perfect for anyone craving a cozy winter romance with strong chemistry, heartfelt moments, and plenty of swoon. I had an absolute blast reading it and would happily read so much more about these two.
This book has all the cozy, winter vibes and some of my favorite tropes! This novella is a second chance romance between two exes - Maisy & Sterling- who haven’t seen each other in three years since their relationship ended. Maisy is staying in her family’s chalet ready to focus on herself and try something new. After a career ending ski accident she wants to learn to snowboard. Enter Sterling, he’s been asked by Maisy’s brother Levi to come to Bluewater Bluffs as a snowboard and instructor. One slight issue is Sterling has to stay at the same chalet with Maisy/ oh and there’s only one bathroom. Despite both of them acting like they’ve moved on it’s very evident they still have strong feelings for each other. This is such a good slow burn with yearning and tension between both characters. Between the hot tub scene and the kitchen island let’s just say despite the blizzard there’s plenty of heat! Levi interfering in Maisy and Sterlings rekindled relationship was the only downside in the book but the ending made up for it.
Tropes:
❄️Second Chance 🏂Brother’s Best Friend ❄️Dual POV 🏂Forced Proximity ❄️ Small town 🏂Instructor x Student ❄️ Slow Burn
Tropes Small town Second chance Brothers best friend Forced proximity
Thank you Tanisha for the eARC!
Sterling and Maisy were together until a skiing accident tore them an apart. Three years later they find themselves face to face again at a ski resort where Levi ( Maisy’s brother) tasks Sterling with teaching Maisy how to snowboard. Will they find their way back to eachother?
This book reminded me of a spicier Hallmark Christmas movie! Yes it was predictable, but that is just what you need in a holiday novella!
This was an easy read that flowed smoothly. Just like when watching Hallmark movies, there were times that I wanted to shake both characters and yell “ just tell them how you really feel”.
Tanisha created such a great book boyfriend when she wrote Sterling. Not only is a surfer/snowboarder, but a protector that buys gifts.. and cooks!
At the end of the day I’m a sucker for a love story… especially a holiday love story and this did not disappoint!
Side note: think I should make my husband play CandyLand with me (ARC readers iykyk)
I will start this review by saying I hate skiiing and snowboarding. It takes a pretty special author to make me think: this sounds fun. Barreling down a hill at top speeds is literally my nightmare. It's almost as scary as falling in love.
🌶️🌶️🌶️/5
Sterling and Maisy have a history and it's a bit messy. When Maisy heads back to Bluewater Bluffs for a snowboarding escape and to rediscover her passion for the slopes she used to basically live on as a competitive skier. Though a traumatic accident killed her Olympic dreams, she's ready to face her fears and create a new happiness in her life after tragedy. Sterling thought escaping to Saltwater Springs would help him start fresh and move on from his devastating break up with Maisy all those years ago. When he's called back to fill in as an instructor and ends up teaching Maisy how to snowboard, he knows he's in trouble. Those feelings he used to have? They weren't squashed at all, and they come bubbling to the surface as he spends more time with her. I think it should be called "Thank the Blizzard" because there's nothing like some forced proximity to help give a lingering romance a second chance. Pick up this book if you love holiday romance, spending time on the slopes, second chance romance, forced proximity, chilly days and warm nights.
Thank you to the author for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Favourite quote from Sterling: "The second her fingers slip into mine, it's like a live wire is running through me. It's too easy to remember how perfectly we used to fit. Too easy to want it again. As if I ever really stopped." See my full review @mimigunnbooks
❄️ Two ex-lovers, one blizzard, and a chalet full of unresolved heat…
📖 Blame the Blizzard by Tanisha Headley ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🌶️🌶️🌶️ Second-chance romance novella
Tropes: 💔 Second chance 👦🏻 Brother’s best friend ❄️ Snowed-in / blizzard 🏂 He teaches her snowboarding 🔥 Competitive exes 🏡 Forced proximity
Sterling and Maisy broke up three years ago—but now that he’s back in town, a blizzard traps them in the same chalet with nothing but old wounds and leftover longing between them.
This book is sweet as hell. I love that neither of them truly moved on, and the emotional tension shifts beautifully from “we need closure” to “our feelings never went away.” Their chemistry is undeniable, and the yearning? Whew. It burns through every page. And the spice? Perfectly steamy for a snow-day read.
I do wish Maisy confronted her feelings a little sooner, but honestly, it still worked really well for the story. A cozy, snowy, second-chance novella that hits all the right emotional beats.
ARC REVIEW | ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ | 🌶️ Blame the Blizzard - Tanisha Headley This little romance novella had me in an absolute chokehold. I told myself just a chapter or two and next thing I knew I was finished. Completely unhinged behaviour but honestly worth it 🤣 I had to know how it ended.
Maisy and Sterling are your quintessential love from the start turned second chance romance. Their connection felt instant and deeply familiar, like no time had passed at all, and I was fully invested from page one. The banter between them was genuinely adorable and had me smiling like an idiot the whole way through.
There were definitely moments where I was internally screaming for them to just talk, but it never felt frustrating in a bad way. You really understand the trauma and stress they’re both carrying which made everything feel realistic and earned rather than annoying.
Short, sweet, emotional and so easy to devour. These two are absolute cutie patooties and this novella was everything I wanted it to be. Perfect for anyone looking for a cozy romance you can inhale in one sitting 🩷
Blame the Blizzard is a cute, cozy novella that felt like curling up under a blanket during a snowstorm. It was well paced, easy to read, and perfect when you want something quick but still emotional. I devoured this in just a few hours, so yes, the review is very fresh.
Sterling completely stole my heart. He was kind, patient, and genuinely wanted to help Maisy without expecting anything in return. Meanwhile, Maisy had me frustrated for a bit. The back and forth, the mixed signals, the heartbreak she caused him. Girl, please decide what you want. That said, once she finally opened up and explained the why behind her choices, everything clicked and my frustration softened.
The romance and spice were nicely balanced, giving just enough heat without overpowering the emotional healing. And Levi deserves a shoutout because he was such a solid brother and friend, doing everything he could to protect both of their hearts.
If you are in the mood for a quick, cozy, second chance romance set against snowy mountain vibes, this novella is definitely worth picking up.
I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to Ms. Tanisha for letting me have an ARC copy of this book. This was an absolute page-turner. What started as “just one more chapter” quickly turned into hours of nonstop reading—I was completely lost within its pages.
I truly enjoyed witnessing how the second-chance romance between Maisy and Sterling unfolded. The tension and silent yearning between them were so palpable. It was deeply satisfying to see how both of them tried to control their emotions, subtly hinting that they never truly moved on from each other. The dual POVs allowed us to experience their thoughts and internal struggles up close, which made their story even more compelling. I also loved how Sterling showed his respect for Levi and stayed true to his promise—such a meaningful detail.
The blizzard and Levi both played special roles in bringing the past lovers back together.
Overall, this was the perfect cozy, short winter romance—an ideal holiday read that warms the heart.
I was so fortunate to be given a ARC of this novella and it was chefs kiss. A second chance romance set on the mountain of a ski resort where there is playfulness, longing, banter, and spice. I loved Sterling and Maisy finding their way back to each other after big hurts have pushed them apart, and Tanisha was able to pack so much story into these pages. The setting in this story made me want to hit the road to a mountain and sit by a fire in the evenings. This novella was the perfect little winter treat to cozy up with that has some of my favourite elements:
-Second Chance Romance -Competitive Exes -Mountain Setting -Spice (the island scene ;) ) -A dash of brothers best friend / she’s off limits -Canadian female author
So excited for Tanisha to release this story, it is the perfect winter HEA for the holidays.
This Holiday novella was exactly what I needed to get into the winter spirit!
In this newest edition to the Saltwater Shredder series, we ditch the warm, sunny ocean views for the cold, snowy mountains.
We are introduced to Sterling, who works hard shaping the boards so all the surfers have the best of the best. He originally started out wanting to pursue a career in snowboarding but due to some personal events in his life, he abandoned those thought to pick up surfing. Then we meet Maisy, the reason for Sterlings change in careers.
This novella goes at a quick pace that will have you wanting more. The story, character development, spice were all spot on and I highly recommend checking out this series! i know I’m really tempted to go back and reread from the beginning. 👀
Blame the Blizzard is a cozy holiday novella set in Saltwater Springs. Maisy Hart was forced to walk away from a professional downhill skiing career three years ago. At the same time, she and Sterling Fox broke up. But Sterling has never gotten over it. Did Maisy?
When there is a freak snowstorm, Maisy's brother, Levi, invites Sterling back to the family ski chalet. However, he also wants Sterling to help Maisy get back on the slopes in the form of snowboarding. He doesn't trust anyone to teach her other than his best friend - with strict instructions that the two of them stay apart romantically due to how he was hurt in their breakup. But will they listen? Can they ignore their past when forced together?
I received an ARC of Blame the Blizzard from Valentine PR and Tanisha Headley in exchange for my honest opinion and review.
Maisy is a former Olympic skier whose career ended after a devastating fall. Sterling, once a professional snowboarder, gave up on his own dreams, burdened by guilt and convinced he was responsible for Maisy's accident.⛷️🏂🏻
Three years later, encouraged by his best friend (Maisy's older brother) Sterling becomes her snowboarding instructor. Old wounds resurface as they're forced to spend time together, snowed in and sharing a space neither of them is ready for.🩵🏔️
Will they grow even further apart, or will this second chance bring them closer than ever?❄️💙
A funny, sexy, and spicy winter romance full of tension, forced proximity, snowboarding lessons, and the irresistible pull of a love that never truly faded.🫶🏻🧤☺️
- second chance - forced proximity - brothers best friend - small town - interconnected stand alones
Look, I will devour any second chance romance where the main characters did not actually do anything “wrong” when the relationship ended. If they cheated, get out of my face.
However, during this story we see the FMC experience a severe accident. We see the process of her pushing people away because she believes that she doesn’t deserve those around her.
I LOVED the connection between the main characters. You could tell from the very beginning of the story just how much they cared for each other. The spice was slow burn and truly made the story better instead of feeling overdone.
I had the owner to read this book as an ARC I am so happy I got it earlier because this book ate it up. It was so easy. It wasn’t really hard to get into and it is one of my favourite trope which is best friend Sister. I had so much fun reading this book and these characters I love them so much like oh my God literally gonna go cry right now because this is actually one of the few small stories that I have read this year that are so damn good like I rarely find any good short stories, but this one ate the hell up. And I can’t wait for you to read it. If you have not already pre-ordered GO DO IT NOW.
This was such a sweet, cozy novella. The wintery mountain chalet and all the snowboarding scenes gave me the perfect holiday-season vibes.
Sterling takes a seasonal job at his friend Levi’s ski resort, only to discover he’ll be staying in Levi’s family chalet—with Levi’s sister and his own ex-girlfriend, Maisy.
What I loved: ♥ forced proximity ♥ brother’s best friend ♥ second-chance romance ♥ small-town charm ♥ snowboarding
I loved that neither Sterling nor Maisy ever truly moved on from their breakup three years ago. My only complaint? I wish it had been a full-length novel.
3.75 ⭐️ rounded up.
Thank you to the author for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.
This sweet little novella backed a sweet punch! Our FMC Maisy and MMC Sterling get their second chance at love when Maisy winds up getting snowboarding lessons from her older brother’s best friend, aka her ex-boyfriend. Despite trying to stay away from each other, circumstances keep bringing them together and the sparks begin to fly!
Under 200 pages, this novella provides a cozy winter setting and a sweet, playful romance. Filled with some of my favourite tropes, Blame the Blizzard was a joy to read!
This would be my very first sports/snowboarding read and I liked it! I use to ski so this was pretty nice to read with the setting based at a ski resort. The MC couple are too cute and I’m so glad they were able to have a second chase together. I enjoyed the double point of views and how their relationship developed even with time apart. They ended rough but were able to work things out, make each other jealous and have some pint up sexy frustrations.
There were characters mentioned that I feel are parts of other books in this same universe so I have to read the other books. Nothing too complicated but I think it would be nice to do!
This was a cute (and spicy), fast-paced winter read! Sterling and Maisy’s story was a rollercoaster that had me flip flopping lots over 160 pages. I really loved Sterling and felt badly for him, but Maisy did manage to redeem herself a bit by the end! I would definitely read a full length novel about this couple, but the novella still hit the spot.
I haven’t read any of the books in the main series, but didn’t feel it took away from my enjoyment or understanding of anything. I would definitely read another book by this author as I did really enjoy her writing!
This cozy, yet hot novella checked all the boxes for me.
Sterling and Maisy never really got over their breakup years ago and went their separate ways, until this winter when circumstances had them being shoved back into each other's lives.
Second chance romance? Check. Forced proximity? Check. Best friend's sister? Check.
But this book is more than its tropes. Headly weaves a tight story that fires on all cylinders and sticks the landing.
Thank you to the author for an advanced copy of this book.
Blame the blizzard is a short novella on Sterling and Maisy whom split three years prior after Maisy had a skiing accident. The pair are reunited and find the love they once shared never disappeared Tropes: 💙brothers best friend 💙second chance 💙forced proximity 💙winter sports romance This was such a quick and easy read with slow burn tension, angst and moments of swoon worthy romance. The sparks flew when these two finally gave in to what they wanted and realised that they’re meant to be giving it a decent level of spice. It was a well written story that had you hooked from the beginning.
I’m not usually a novella lover. They seem too short to “realistically” solve the problem and fully flush out the storyline.
That was not the case with this one. It had everything and more in it. A return, close proximity, hurt feelings, tension, jealousy and most of all love.
The chairlift- although straight out of my nightmares, was so sweet.
The tension was so good. Yearning. Possessiveness was so hot. I love when there is a declaration of your mine. Hits every time for me.
The skating and the ornament? Perfect book boyfriend material!
Wow! This was my first time reading something from Tanisha and I’m impressed.
This is a second chance romance between Sterling & Maisy, who had a romantic past before it all went wrong with Maisy’s skiing accident.
The heat, banter, second chance of love was giving in the best way. This is a short story but so good! It didn’t feel rushed as at all and the story had you gripped and wanting more.
Will definitely be going back to read the saltwater spring stories 🩷
3.5 ⭐️ Overall I really enjoyed Sterling and Maisy. Some second chance stories, I struggle with their reasoning for breaking up, but Maisy’s was very realistic. And so was their struggle on whether to act on their feelings or not due to misunderstanding and guilt.
I think my only true negative was Maisy’s brother, Levi. He was very wishy-washy and his reasons for not wanting them to get back together fell flat for me.
