The Lost Arts #4

The Lost Art of Life Magic

Rate this book
Two interwoven romances conclude the series!

Trill’s already doing something risky—and then he meets two Mage Warriors who could be everything to him… if they don’t kill him when they find out what he is.

Trill knows that it isn’t wise to approach any Mage Warriors, but he really wants the chance to at least see Cormal, the uncle he’s never met. Before he can get that far, he runs into a wounded Mage Warrior and his partner who want to take him home, and Trill is more than happy to go.

The sex is fantastic, and the opportunity to secretly heal the broken man is one that Trill can’t pass up. It’s not long before it begins to feel like this could become something more–but how could they work when he’s something they’ve been taught to revile?

Can Cormal acknowledge past mistakes and see what’s right in front of him?

Cormal is now stuck with the job of Summus—a job that everyone assumes he manipulated those around him to attain. His fiery temper is worse than ever, and he feels isolated and alone when all he’s tried to do is protect everyone.

With the help of someone close to him, Cormal might be ready to acknowledge another perspective and rectify some past mistakes. New possibilities are there for both of them—but there are risks involved. Are they ready to strive for a future together, or might the costs be too great?

The Lost Art of Life Magic is a cozy MM and MMM fantasy romance with plenty of steam. In alternating POV, it features both a couple and a triad finding their HEAs. It concludes the Lost Arts series. It is best read in order.

“I’ve never had anyone choose me before.”

What a perfect ending to a series that might’ve started a little slow and cozy, but eventually captured my heart.
Getting to see the whole gang together and all their happy ever afters brought me so much joy, and I’m glad something about the first book caught my eye and made me keep on picking up the next installment — so worth it in the end.
Spoilers ahead.

What could you possibly do when you were that attracted to someone you couldn’t touch?

With this final installment we get not one, but TWO romances. A super sexy throuple and the sweetest, sort of forbidden sort of impossible, romance ever. I loved how different they were, but both caring and full of love.

“Oh, we definitely want to play, don’t we, Arvus?”
“We certainly do, baby.”

Even if it mostly connects to the plot, there is A LOT of smut. I’m not complaining, of course, just be prepared for a sexfest.

“Does that feel good?” Cormal asked. “So good,” Kinan managed to gasp, sounding breathless. “Are you imagining it’s my hand?” Cormal wanted to know. “Imagining that it’s me touching you, my hand flying over your cock, making you feel good?”

And while the throuple situation was sexy, the romance between Cormal and Kinan was next level HOT, as well as intimate and full of feels. The jerk-off instructions, the not being able to touch, the looks, the connection.
I still think I loved both romances, but Cormal and Kinan spoke to my soul.

“Why are you listening to me?” Cormal asked.
The Prince was silent for a moment, and then he said, “Because you need to be heard.”

I’ve been going on and on about the romances, but the plot was just as great. A mix of fantasy, magic, angst, found family and romance. It didn’t start out perfect, and there are still some things that bothered me even in this one, but I fell in love with this world bit by bit and I’m sad to see it end.

He knew that together, they were unstoppable.

I received a copy of this book from Gay Romance Reviews, and this is my honest review.

This is going to be a case where I have no idea whether I have the words to express alllll my feelings upon finishing a book/series, but I HAVE to try because dear. god. this. book.

Okay, so for context, you have to know that I was SO enraged at a character at the end of book three that I was basically campaigning for him to... well, maybe not actually cease existing, but possibly to get reamed sideways by a rusty fork. I was highly skeptical whether I'd be able to accept him as an MC of this book, because how can you root for a character to get an HEA when you detest him?

Friends. This is possibly the most believable, utterly perfect redemption arc I've ever read. There was no easy fix, and he had to work hard for it, but he learned and grew and apologized and did his utmost to make things right. It was definitely precipitated by the love interest caring and listening to him (and calling him out for being a jerk when needed), but it was no magic fix. I genuinely thought that it would take me most of the book to come around to even liking him, but I was crying for him so much earlier than I expected. And the author didn't change his personality--he learned to rein in his temper and think things through, but he's still the same guy.

And that's just ONE of the storylines!

Skillfully woven through Cormal's chapters were ones from Trill, a new character who I love love love (seriously, I don't know how Ellie managed to write so many DIFFERENT personalities and make me fall in love with just about all of them). You might think it would be disorienting, but it was a fantastic way to approach things because we get (obviously) a different perspective from Trill that intertwines with Cormal's more and more as they both become more essential to the overall plot. Both love stories were absolutely swoonworthy and wonderful (I'm SO happy Molun and Arvus found their third! Trill is perfect for them), and I shed tears more than once throughout. There is a SOLID happy ending all around!

I raced through this 596-page book in a day and was good for not much else, and yet I'm still so sad it's over. This has become elevated to one of my all-time favorite series, and that it's from a debut author is truly amazing.

I can't wait to read more from her! She is now on my insta-buy list.

The Lost Art of Life Magic is the 4th book in The Lost Arts series. In my opinion this series is best read in order. This series wraps up with two romances in one book. We have Arvus and Molun finding their third in Trill. Then Cormal finally learns somethings and finds love. This book was hard to put down once I started. I had to put it down once to get some sleep because it is long not just in pages but in the story as well. All the unanswered problems and questions are taken care of. I loved the characters and world building throughout the whole series. This was just an epic adventure we were taken on. It was nice seeing Brannal and Perian again. I'm going to miss this world and the characters that Ellie Ash has created. I would definitely recommend this book and series.

So, so, so good!

I don't entirely know how to write this review without spoiling things for others or pretty much just squeeing constantly. The last book had me absolutely wrecked - that ending was both a HEA and so frustrating (because of certain people *cough* Cormal *cough*). So you best believe I was extremely excited to get the last major chapter in this series. This is a chonky book which makes sense given you get not just Trill, Molun and Arvus' story but Cormal's and the general resolution to main series plot. I love a redemption arc but I will admit, I was starting to get really worried as to how on earth Cormal could ever be redeemed without it feeling wrong. All I can say is, wow. Ellie Ash gave Cormal the mother of all redemption arcs and it felt so genuine and right. To make that work with a character that (at the end of the last book) I would have happily seen have a long date with a wood chipper is impressive in the extreme. Cormal absolutely had to work for his redemption and it wasn't just a he did the work and it's all tied up with a pretty bow. It was messy and hard and far from instant. It was the redemption arc he deserved because it honestly made me like him. As much as Perian? Never, but he honestly became a character I enjoyed because Ellie had him put the work in and gave him an honest resolution. Trill, Molun and Arvus are just *chef's kiss*. They are sweet, spicy, and caring. They have such a lovely connection and watching them grow it into something beautiful was just so lovely. It wasn't easy and it wasn't always perfect but it was perfect for them and it made a sometimes a bit heavy story arc as a whole feel light. The series story arc as a whole was done really well too. It's also been left in a way that feels resolved well for the series but is also honest in the fact that things take time and there is no perfect finger snap moment of resolution. Discrimination, misunderstanding, miseducation, historical persecution, violence and self-defence are not things that you just get past. There are generational issues in terms of perspective and it's hard to get people to see beyond their prejudices (even when they genuinely want to). I liked that it felt solid because it acknowledged that. It's hopeful and left me feeling happy but it felt more real in its happy ending because of those little elements that made it a little more realistic. It's still very much the best case scenario ending but it feels more happy making maybe because it's a best case scenario that feels real, not a best case scenario that feels entirely dream like. No matter what though, this is a series that I have thoroughly enjoyed (even when it made me mad/sad). It's cozy but pushes you emotionally, it can be heavy but lightens the load with sweetness, it has imperfect people trying to be genuinely good and it has mistakes/misdeeds that people actually ask forgiveness for and work for. It's a series I know I'm going to go back to over and over because it's genuinely brought me so much joy. I can't wait for more from this author.

I would like to thank GRR for the opportunity to read and review this ARC.

The Lost Art of Life Magic was an awesome, full-of-feelings final installment to a series I did not anticipate loving as much as I did!

My heart was actually throbbing when I finished this book.
And I'm pretty sad that the series is now over.
But I'm very happy that the reading journey I had was a good one.
And though Book 2 was NOT a glowing memory,
Books 3&4 were really compelling, with tons of soft and sweet and cozy energy that felt like I'd had the best snuggle over the course of the last two books.

The narrative was bright and vibrant, with good pacing and charisma. And every single one of the characters were engaging and entertaining, and I was easily invested in them all. Everyone from past books were even more endearing than before, and I LOVED that three VERY different relationship dynamics were explored.

I wasn't sure I would vibe with the redemption arc tbh, but Cormal was quite earnest in his efforts to rectify his wrongs and do the right thing, which as we all know is never easy! But from start to finish he really dug his heels in and did the work, and I give Ellie Ash props for changing my mind after 3 WHOLE BOOKS of not liking him at all!

This story was deeply moving and I choked up every time someone was patient, and kind, and gentle, and lovingly accepting. This was such a special read, and I must have combo choked-sobbed-gasped enough times to wonder about the narrative's impact on my physicality!

My heart got a workout, but not in a devastating way where I was wrung out and strung out from feeling all my feelings! More like in the "hot bath" way, where submersed in liquid heat and steam and scent and bubbles for a time is magic for bodies and minds. I was giddy every time I teared-up over some scrumptious, sweet thing and then looked to see that there were hours and hours left to read!

I think this was one of the longest MM fantasy romances I've read to date, and it's the best feeling knowing that I enjoyed every sentence and could have read a thousand pages more!

I'm so happy I took a chance on Ellie Ash and the The Lost Arts series, because this made me feel so many things, and I'm actually looking forward to rereading the whole thing now that I know what I know now!

I'm excited for everything Ellie Ash, and I'm very much looking forward to The Prince's Charm up next, which I hope will kick off a series as wonderful and maybe 1246845825 books longer than The Lost Arts because this was marvellous!

The Lost Art of Life Magic gifts us with two romances. There is Trill who wants to meet his uncle, Cormal. He is sure the Mage Warriors will kill him if they find out what he is but he is determined. To find him, he goes to a bar where Mage Warriors are known to go. He sees a beautiful man and his partner, both Mage Warriors. One night he is lucky enough to go home with them for some incredible pleasure. The three fit so well together, he never leaves. Molun and Arvus are perfect for Trill.

At the same time, Cormal is now Summus, a job he never really wanted. He finds that he is very unpopular due to his past actions. He is miserable and has no idea how to fix things. He finds a surprising confidant who helps him realize that he needs to change, become more open, and talk to those around him. Above all he needs to apologize to those he hurt. The two go on from there to realize they have so much in common.

Cormal was certainly one to dislike in the other stories. His path to redemption was amazing and so beautifully written. It was a pleasure to read as Cormal gradually comes to realize he needs to look beyond and try to change. With a little help he manages. He is not easy on himself either. Trill’s love story was just as amazing as he finds love with not one but two men. Arvus and Molun turned out to be quite protective of him, something that was truly remarkable.
This series was so captivating. This is the final story and it was perfect to cap off The Lost Arts series. Start at the beginning to really appreciate the beauty and delight of the stories. Looking for some steam in a fantasy romance? Look no further.

THE LOST ART OF LIFE MAGIC is the fourth and final book in The Lost Arts series, and I'm going to be honest, when I read that it wasn't told from Perian's perspective, I wasn't a happy bunny. I mean, come on! But knowing how much I loved the other books, I decided to give it a chance, so with a heavy sigh, I opened it up.

O.M.G. What a perfect ending!!!! I was instantly hooked, loving both new character Trill and old love-to-hate Cormal. Only, trouble was, I found myself sympathising with Cormal. What? I mean, how?? You know that phrase about good intentions? Well, it suits him down to a T. And I found my heart melting. Or maybe that was from the steamy scenes? I'm not sure, and it doesn't really matter.

What matters is that you get everything here. It ties the whole series together, steamy scenes, heartfelt scenes, scenes that will make you laugh out loud (Renny and Cormal!), you see old friends, meet new people who annoy you - I'm looking at you, ninth councillor! - and get everything you could possibly want to finish this outstanding series.

You need to start with book one, but honestly, there's not a single reason why you shouldn't. All of these books are amazing, and I HIGHLY RECOMMEND all of them. This whole series is in my re-read pile, because I know I will be returning to this brilliant world again and again.

*I got an arc*

Cormal messed up. All he wanted to do was make sure everyone was safe but now he's Summus (he did not want this despite what everyone thinks), Brannal left to go after Perian (he also did not want this), everyone is mad at him (again he did not want this) and Perian has been banned from the castle (well he did want this one). How did everything go so wrong?

Enter Trill: a guy eager to meet his uncle and perhaps have a few dalliances with some Mage Warriors along the way. Except there's an issue: his uncle is Cormal.

Can Cormal get over his prejudice and realise that Perian isn't a threat? Will Trill manage to keep his uncle and his new lovers in his life? Or will his happiness (and maybe life) be another casualty of the bigotry within the kingdom?

***

I quite enjoyed this book. One of the things I enjoyed most was the depiction of Cormal's redemption. I utterly loathe when abusive characters have unearned redemptions (and Cormal's behaviour to Perian was absolutely abusive) and demand forgiveness from everyone around them. Once Cormal finally understood that his feelings were not facts, he put the work in *and* did not expect forgiveness for past transgressions. I think this book did a marvellous job of showing how fear (for valid reasons) can lead people to making poor choices.

A masterful illustration of what prejudice and bigotry costs us all.

4.25/5. The whole series has been great, and I inhaled each book and novella. But this last hurrah genuinely felt lacking in its POV choices. With the way things have gone for years in the story (before and after we join in), you’d think even a single chapter would be given to someone who stayed locked in forced silence, unseen and untouched. It seemed like a glaring, yawning gap in the experience of reading. I did love Trill, though, and more Molun and Arvus will always be welcome. Cormal got a healthy redemption arc and I no longer wish he could set himself on fire. I should be fist pumping and celebrating, but I just… I don’t know. I just feel like I missed out and I can only broadly sweep a gesture towards little things, but those are the most important things in my opinion, and that brings me back down to stomp terra. I guess.

*Edit: The bonus content is not optional. Well, most of it is just some extra funsies, but if you want even a half-assed answer to the Nisal letter and that bit of the conflict resolution, you’ll have to find it at the end of the second scene within. I hate when A Big Deal is made about something and the subsequently abandoned like it wasn’t actually all that necessary, hence the rating that I didn’t really explain well previously.

Firstly, this is a big book and I don't just mean the almost 600 pages. There is a lot going on. Secondly whilst the author says this is dual POV, I don't think that's entirely true. There are two interwoven romances in this final story. Arvus and Molun find their third with Trill and part of the book is his POV. Cormal, who finally pulls his head out of his ass and learns some hard truths, also find a love interest and part of the book is told in his POV.

Okay, now we've cleared that up, this story was everything I was hoping for. Its epic scale allowed the author to cleverly and neatly, close up all the loose threads from the previous stories, whilst still bringing new surprises, unexpected reveals and two luscious and steamy romances. Well, three is you take into account their visit to Brannal and Perian 😉

I have loved this world that Ellie has built from the beginning. The Castle, the Town, the country. The Mages, the Warriors, the Demons. I've especially loved all the MCs as well as Renny, Lee and Prince Horsey with all his glorious opinions. I'm sad that I'll never be able to read it for the first time again, but looking forward to future re-reads.

“The Lost Art of Life Magic” by Ellie Ash is the last book in the ‘Lost Arts’ series and features Trill, who is searching for his relatives but finds much more when he meets Arvus and Molun, and provides resolution for the uncomfortable situation that resulted from the discoveries about Perian.

This adult gay fantasy romance was a fantastic end to the series and reminded me of why I fell in love with the world-building and fascinating characters that were introduced by this talented new author. Cormal gets his time in the spotlight (and some delightful retribution by the princess), certain wrongs are righted, and there is plenty of spice and adventure to keep one enthralled. I sincerely hope there are future stories that feature these charismatic characters, and I will definitely be on the lookout for more books by this author. Someone new to the series should definitely start with the first book, as each builds on the previous story, but be warned that it may be hard to put them down once you get started.

The 4th book of the 'Lost Arts' series, this book is long...597 Android Kindle app-pages long! Yep, it's surely a commitment! This after reading the previous books, and you have to read the first 3, in order, before trying to tackle this one. But, it's TOTALLY WORTHY OF YOUR TIME! Nonetheless this is a decisive end to the series.

Although Trill and Cormal (yes, THAT Cormal!) are the MCs, Perian and Brannal play significant roles, as do Molun and Arvus. Also of note is Cormal and Trill are uncle/nephew and aren't romantic partners. They don't even interact with each other at all for a good part of the beginning. The book's POVs are that of the MCs'.

Trill is a carnalion and Cormal is now the Summus Mage Warrior. Trill is attracted to Molun and Arvus, and they to him. And Cormal becomes attracted to the disembodied Crown Prince, Kinan, who had a crush on Cormal. So what starts as separate MM and MMM related stories becomes a plot line that eventually overlaps.

The Final book in this amazing debut series by Ellie Ash. I have loved all of these wonderful and magical men. The world building throughout the series was great. This final book is from the POV of our villain from book 3 (he was in all the other books as well….but you just didn’t want to hate him so much until book 3) and one of our favorite couples who meets and brings into their relationship a very special man. We also get to see the foundation of these books Perrian and Brannel again. This couple will live in my heart for many years to come. This book is long and is well worth it. It ties up all the mysteries that have traveled through out the series and brings all of our found family to amazing HEA’s. There are also bonus scenes available that I will be jumping into tonight. I can not recommend this book and the series enough. Enjoy!

I saw part of this coming because the author kinda set this up from the start. I love Perian and Brannal. They may not be the focus of this story but they are my favorite all the same. Cormal will never be one of my favorites but I have to admit that I understand him a little better. I think Kinan has bad taste in men but everyone deserves a chance. I also think Trill is perfect for his Arvus and Molun. Those two have stood beside Perian and Brannal throughout and they deserve to have a permanent third. I love how this story played out. It all turns out good in the end. Changing people’s minds and opinions is never easy but the change is necessary, especially when people are being treated unfairly.

Having read this entire series, I’m significantly happier with this ending for the main couple (Brannel and Perian) than I was at the end of Book 3. Cormal’s complete personality makeover near the beginning for this novel was less believable than anything else so far. The decision to use two intertwined narratives made this interesting, and probably a bit long. I would probably have preferred only Trill’s narrative, but again I didn’t find Cormal’s personality makeover believable so I didn’t connect with him (or Kinan, as a result) as a character.
Overall, very happy with the series. Would love to see the perspective of another Life Mage in hiding, perhaps an older one, as the world changes.

Thanks to GRR for this ARC. All opinions are my own.

Ellie Ash has swiftly become one my favourite authors. No unnecessary angst, filled with warmth and humour. This is the final book in the series so do do go back and start at the beginning. It’s truly a beautiful journey. I feel tha Ellie has got better with each book, finding their voice, and their style.
Although if you’ve got to this point then you already know all this, and you want to know what happens next … read the darn book! Haha you know you will anyway so I’m just leaving some love her for release day because everyone needs a little happy in their day 💜 Happy Release Day Ellie!! You rocked this series 🥰

An epic conclusion to what is definitely my favourite fantasy series of this year. It was an unusual choice to have book 4 in different POVs, the first three books all Perian and now Trill and Cormal, but it really worked. Cormal had a chance at redemption, which he had to work for throughout the book, and even became somewhat unexpectedly likable. The characters discovered a lot of lost information about their world, and all the plot points were resolved. Perian, despite not being the POV character in this book, still had an integral and wonderfully deserving part. I'll really miss this world.

so, I really liked the first and the third book. the second bowls necessary but long ....therefore I was a bit hesitant to read about Cormal.

but OMG was I wrong!!!!

I think he was my favourite character in the whole series after this book. he is really growing as a character and his relationship development is swoon-worthy.

unfortunately, I did not feel the same way about the second storyline or better said, relationship development
don't get me wrong: Trill was sweet and in all, he fits. but I was a bit disappointed in relationship dynamics

the main storyline is based on Cormal, so that worked perfectly for me

in all it was a great book and I loved it

It seemed fitting that Trill, who was on a quest to meet Cormal, an uncle he had never met, would come across two Mage warriors with whom he would find a fit that he was not anticipating. And that he would not only enjoy the benefits of being with them but also try to help where he could. Cormal is not a character that one felt was well regarded from previous reads, but he gets a chance at redemption, while he too finds relationship with Kinnan. This pair of romances, somewhat connected, provided a satisfying conclusion to this amazing series. A lovely wrap-up that was so satisfying.
I received an ARC from GRR and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Ending of an extraordinary four book series

I would give this series ten stars out of five if I could. I am not going to gush, but I want to because this series is just so extraordinary and as much as I didn’t want the series to end, this volume is the perfect ending to the series. Everything is amazing from plot to characters to magical system and on and on. Nope I said that I wasn’t going to gush or this review would be as long as the books. I will say that this series is going on my read once a year list and I recommend it to anyone who loves well written fantasy romance.

Okay, so final book in series but now told from 2 totally new POV's. One is Cormal and his story is one of epic redemption !! You do see his side of the story and the reasons why etc .... hmph ....but we still want to see him grovel....ALOT !! And he certainly does .....with the support, and that was a twist ! The other POV is a brand new character but is central person to more than one character! There are plenty of twists and surprises .... not so much action but plenty of emotions. Story is quite sweet and adorable...but also funny and very very steamy !!! I was worried about the changing POV's in last book but story flow quite smoothly - a very nice end to series.

I'm a little sad that this is the end of the series. I loved following that story the last few months. While the first two books were quite cozy and there wasn't much happening they introduced a vibrant world and bunch of wonderful characters. This last book is a worthy ending to a complex story. I really enjoyed the change of POV from the previous books. This story is about redemption, tolerance, love, dedication and the power of friendship. It's an exciting story written in a gentle tone and I really enjoyed that.

I absolutely LOVED this series! Every single book was interesting, complex and unusual in a great way! I loved Perian and I wanted to see a lot of him in this final book! He ended being in the book just enough! Ellie Ash does a great job wrapping up all of the stories in a very satisfying way and I actually ended up really liking Cormal- shocker! This was a great series and I recommend every single book! I loved them all! I read an advanced copy of this book and this is my unbiased review!

The Lost Art of Life Magic is a brilliant and satisfying conclusion to the Lost Arts series. With two romances unfolding side by side, a tender, healing MMM connection and Cormal’s own path to redemption—the story delivers emotion, spice, and closure in all the right ways. I loved the blend of cosy fantasy, family reunions, and long-awaited growth, and the alternating POVs kept me hooked throughout. A fantastic wrap-up to the series and highly recommended.
I received a free arc copy and this is my honest review

I do not want to give a lot away here. I was so happy that we got quite a few POV's as there were more guys then just Arvus and Molun finding love! The addition of Trill to their relationship was perfection. Do not be fooled with the Cozy in the titles of this series as they are also quite steamy reads. Cormal getting his own romance within this story was a perfect way to round it all out. I can say I was pleased with the way this world and all the relationships unfolded!

a fitting end

I’m so glad the author was able to write such a fitting end to the Mage Warriors’ series. Even though book 3 sort of ends on an HEA, this one really makes it happen. Cormal gets his head out of his butt with help and affection from an unexpected source and Molun and Arvus finally get a filling for their sandwich. Amends are made and lots of s*x is had and everyone lives happily ever after.

I have truly loved this whole series and am sad to have reached the end of it. The intertwined romances in this book gave happy endings to characters we met in previous books, but also showed a huge redemption arc for one, as well as solving the largest problem left unresolved. I adored seeing happy endings for these characters that I've come to know and love, as well as a fix for the disaster that happened in the previous book. The princess is still my favorite side character, and she showed her spunky side once again (several times!). Such a fun world and interesting magic system, too. I'm so glad I read these books.

This book is a very satisfying, perfect ending to the series. All mysteries and conflicts are resolved into the most beautiful happily ever after. There are some great surprises along the way. It has been a long journey and this ending brings it all together with love and the brightest new beginnings. Highly recommended!

This was exactly the incredible ending I was hoping for with this series. (Which must be read in order.) The world building, plot, characters.. basically everything is amazing in this book (and the others). It was so nice to get to spend time with all of the various main characters and see their HEAs.
