I was completely consumed—started at 7PM Saturday and suddenly it was 4AM on Sunday… and now I’m just lying here staring at the ceiling trying to recover from that cliffhanger. I need the next book immediately.
This story pulls you in from the very beginning with its duet POV, stunning chapter art, and a writing style that makes it impossible to put down. The plot is layered and intentional—balancing romance, danger, mystery, and emotional depth without ever slowing the pacing. Every chapter adds another piece to the puzzle, and just when you think you understand what’s happening, the story twists again.
At the center is a sassy, clever FMC who refuses to be a victim. She’s dealing with a stalker, uncovering secrets she was never meant to touch, and repeatedly putting herself in the path of someone far more dangerous than she realizes. Her strength, humor, and refusal to back down made her incredibly easy to root for.
The MMC is a morally grey Irish mafia prince with his own agenda, haunted by his past and focused on revenge. His world—yes, including a mafia-run amusement park—is both surreal and brilliant, serving as a deceptively bright backdrop for a dark, violent undercurrent. As their paths collide, the story weaves together power struggles, hidden little ugly truths, and escalating threats that keep the tension razor-sharp.
The slow-burn romance is packed with angst, sharp banter, and undeniable chemistry. The spice is intense but always clearly consensual, which only deepens the emotional connection between them. Both characters are damaged in meaningful ways, and watching them challenge, protect, and slowly unravel each other is incredibly satisfying.
The mystery element is strong and ever-present, with twists that genuinely caught me off guard and an ending that left me gasping. This book feels like a roller coaster—dangerous, swoony, and unpredictable from start to finish.
And honestly? I wouldn’t mind having a little souvenir from Lachlan Park to hold onto while I wait for what comes next.
One of my favorite mafia romances I’ve read. I’m so thankful for this ARC and already desperate for the next installment.

This was my first dark romance ever and I adored it. I was a bit nervous it might be too dark for my taste but honestly, it was perfect. While it explores dark themes, Cassidy Cole does it tactfully.
I loved the premise of the story and the mafia/theme park backdrop. The dual POV was a great choice and kept me engaged in both characters’ storylines. It was immersive in the best way.
I flew through this book because I was obsessed with Preston and Kate’s story. And the cliffhanger??! I can’t wait for book 2!
There honestly wasn’t anything I would change. The spice was on point, and the plot was believable and kept me on my toes. Bravo!!! You killed this, girl.
I cannot wait to read more for you and to keep rooting you on 💕

The book brings you into the world of the Irish Mafia that is located in Maine. While running from her own troubled past, the FMC works under the radar at an amusement park (unknowingly owned by the mafia), the FMC stumbles upon a secret entrance to the tunnel system running below the park. Once down there, she sees something that changes her life in more ways than she can imagine. Meeting the MMC, she thinks he’s just like a guy from her past, but he’ll do anything to change her mind and show her she isn’t her past self and is so much stronger.
At the beginning of the book, you get an intro into the Irish mafia whose shipments are coming up short, and how the MMC became so ruthless. I kept thinking “ok she’s going to expand on this” or “ok we’re going to get more details” and while that’s true with tidbits here and there, the biggest cliffhanger to do with the mafia life is at the end!
Cassidy teased us that there would be a cliffhanger, but I was not expecting what it was.
While there are four spicy chapters (21, 26, 36, and 42 (SIDE NOTE…HIGHLY RECOMMEND THE RESTAURANT SCENE! 🔥)), there is definitely more story than spice. But trust me, the spice does not fail to deliver! The first book focuses on the FMC regaining her strength and learning that she’s so much stronger than she thought while also discovering that this ruthless mafia son also has a softer side. As we already know, Cassidy has already teased us by trying to finish the second book, so I can only assume that this will focus more on the mafia story line. But you’ll have to read the book to find out why 😉

This story has such an eerie, simmering atmosphere. The amusement park setting feels almost deceptive, bright and loud on the surface while something rotten and dangerous hums underneath. That tension follows every interaction, making the forced proximity feel genuinely claustrophobic instead of convenient.
Preston Lachlan is the kind of morally grey MMC that makes you uneasy in the best way. He is sharp, controlled, and clearly dangerous, but there is depth behind his suspicion and cruelty that slowly peels back as the story unfolds. Watching his walls crack as truths surface was incredibly satisfying. The FMC is no fragile victim either. She is guarded, resourceful, and carrying her own shadows, which makes their dynamic feel balanced and earned.
The chemistry between them builds slowly, fueled by mistrust, shared secrets, and a growing sense of safety neither of them expected to find. Every moment feels charged, like one wrong move could tip everything into chaos. The emotional tension hit just as hard as the darker elements of the plot.
As the first book in the Lachlan Park Trilogy, this one sets the tone perfectly. Huge thank you to Cassidy Cole for the opportunity to read this ARC before release — I truly appreciated it (and for letting me spam you with updates every chapter… and yes, I did call a major plot twist 😅).
This book starts a little slow, but I honestly didn’t mind. The character development felt natural and never forced, which I loved. I was so focused on the main plot twist that I didn’t even fully clock some of the smaller hints until later — and that made the payoff even better.
What really stood out to me is that this isn’t your typical mafia romance. While it has familiar elements, it’s handled in a much more refreshing way. The story is very plot-driven, which I loved, and it sucked me in quickly.
Pres absolutely stole my heart. The way he prioritizes Kate’s autonomy, her healing, and helping her reclaim her confidence and power was everything. He’s protective, soft, and completely devoted to her — truly worships her — and always puts her needs first.
If you love mafia romance with strong plot and meaningful character development (more story, less spice), I highly recommend this one. I can’t wait for book two.

This book starts off by introducing our FMC Kate who is trying to stay under the radar at an amusement park. With hearing stories about what may go on underneath the park, Kate goes on a little adventure. Little does she know she is going to walk in on our MMC Preston doing some questionable things. While they both recognize each other from their run in, Preston is very suspicious, but also is drawn to Kate and he cannot explain why.
This enters their arrangement of her staying with him for one month. She thinks this is a perfect way to stay undetected, and Preston is able to make sure she isn't a mole.
While they might have started off on the wrong foot, Preston & Kate are able to get to know each other and start fall for each other. AND YAAALLL, the mouth on this man is HOT!!!!

This book. Dear god the cliffy that Mrs. Cassidy Cole leaves us on. Hot damn! Honestly one of the best cliffy's I've encountered she wraps up what happens between our FMC Kate and MMC Preston in what you think is a nice little bow, leaving easter eggs along the way of what's to come all you seem to know for certain is who our next FMC will be. The dynamic between Kate an Preston in this book is gold. The banter, the tension, the backstory of how and why they are the way they are is beautiful. Truthfully I signed up for this arc because some of her promo drops said that he puts her in a collar and I was hook line and sinker, so glad I did. This book was hands down one of my favorites I've read this year. If you want to be gutted by emotionally vulnerable scenes between characters with some serious baggage, look no further.

Kate was running and landed at an amusement park in Maine. She poked her nose where it doesn’t belong and ran into Preston. He had to decide what to do with her since she’s seen things she shouldn’t have.
Preston was next in line for the Irish mafia’s territory on the East coast. They settled into a small town in Maine, opened the amusement park as a cover and place to import their guns/drugs. He’s dealing with a mole and she’s a distraction
From the first time he saw her, she was his and she wiggled her way into the spaces between his broken pieces.
Together they took on her past and find the mole, who had a good excuse

Everything was written exquisitely and the ending omgggg. The cliffhanger has me hungry for more. I need more. As the first book in the Lachlan series Cassidy Cole left no crumbs with this one. She delivered wholeheartedly and did not miss. The dynamic between Preston and Kate was intriguing and love the growth from both of them. From Preston opening up little by little to Kate trusting in him to be protected but learning how to protect herself as well. I truly have no complaints.

This book was sensational. It is a dark romance, so check the trigger warnings, unless like me trigger warnings are like a wish list 😜.
Preston is the definition of morally grey, but gosh how we love when they finally fall.
Kate may be bruised, but she is not broken. I loved seeing her become stronger throughout the book.

I will admit that when I realized this would have a cliffhanger I almost didn’t read it. But boy am I glad I did. It’s an enemies to lovers, forced proximity, with at least a HFN that feels like it will still be a HEA.
It starts off slow with building the backstories and setting. However, the chemistry between the FMC and MMC hits early and really keeps you engaged.
The story feels like it’s coming to an end with one part of the storyline concluding and I wondered if what was left unresolved would be enough for a second book….and then BAM! plot twist to create the cliffhanger and now I’m mad I can’t read the 2nd book yet 🤬🤣 I really cannot wait for what comes next!

this book was amazing. the twist and turns. the drama. I absolutely fell in love with Kate and Preston. I do know I was not expecting the major cliff hanger that there was. But I do know that I had a hard time putting it down to sleep. I only had 5 pages left, so I finished reading on my break at work. I absolutely love Arden. He is a soul that is broken, but being put back together just like Preston and Kate. I seriously can't wait until book 2. ahh this author is amazing, there definitely is a lot of things that could cause some readers issues, so please read through trigger warnings. I CANNOT WAIT TO GET MY HANDS ON A PHYSICAL COPY.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ ♾️ This book gave me all the feels I've been searching for. It was a fresh take on a mafia romance, with the same vibes and hot spice🔥, and it was beautifully written and easy to follow. Kate and Preston had depth individually, but then when they were together, their moments were explosive and consuming. I caught on to hints and saw one of the twists coming, and I thought that was it, but then the end came, and I was blown away when it took a new turn, and the main twist (I wasn’t expecting whatsoever!!) had me screaming and in complete shock. That cliffhanger has left me reeling, and I can't wait for more!!!

I loved Preston, my heart broke for him though and the trauma he went through with his family. Once he met Kate I was so happy that they connected through both of their traumas.

Promising debut! This was a good quick easy read but I found myself wanting more from the characters and their story. I think it may have been better suited for a slow burn with the high tension between the FMC and MMC. There is more for this world to expand in future books and the potential is unlimited! The ending cliffhanger wasn’t a huge shocker for me, but I am looking forward to the continuation of the series.

Maybe I need to start reading Mafia romances bc I really liked this! I loved Kate's character arc. The way Preston helped her overcome her fear was so *chefs kiss*. And the way she helped him open up for the first time in five years😭 they were so evenly matched. and that maze scene? 10/10. That plot twist at the end had my jaw on the ground, and I'm gonna need the next book immediately, tyvm.
I thought this was a great debut for Cassidy, and I can't wait to see what she does next!

Little Ugly Truths was such an amazing read. The tragic pasts that the author intentionally gives snippets to was great insight to the main characters. The last 10% of the book had me sitting on the edge of my seat with the crazy plot twists! I can’t wait to read the next two books in this trilogy.
If you are looking for an Irish Mafia romance with touch her and die vibes, female empowerment, and protective MMC. 10/10 recommend.

This book really deserves the 5 stars. Like the mystery in the book and to finally find out guilty person and to know the reasoning was like mind blowing 🤯. I can't wait for the next book, i just wish I could get a hold of the next book. This book ending too quickly for me. I need more of it. I am really grateful for the ARC. This is really an amazing book.
