Flynn Knight has a million things to do. From the mundane, like helping his new friends open the restaurant next door, to feeding his cat—a near full-time job. Then there are the unexpected things, like trying to find out about his father’s people, now that one has tried to kill him.
When someone adds yet another attempted assassination to the mix, the only thing he knows for sure is that he can’t hide in his back office until everything blows over.
Right?
No, of course not.
Besides, if he’s in danger, then so are his friends, and he can’t have that; he’s attached. Especially to his new business partner, Davin Byrne, the world’s weirdest vampire, who has dark secrets of his own.
Façade is second in a new series set in the Fantastic Fluke universe. It settles Flynn into his new life with his friends and family, begins to explore the slow burn romance plot, and continues the main overarching plot, which will complete in book three, Masquerade.
Facade is the second book in Sam Burns’ Knight and Daywalker series and I am absolutely loving it. The series takes place in the same world as Burns’ fabulous Fantastic Fluke series, which I loved, and while this series works fine on its own, the tone and vibe are really similar across the books, so fans of that series will likely enjoy this one too. The Knight and Daywalker books connect with an overarching plot, so this is best read in order after Smokescreen.
I liked that this story explores both Flynn and Davin in more detail and gives them both some focus, though Flynn is still our sole POV character.
So Good. I love Flynn and Davin, they make for a lovely couple, and the story was very engaging. There is a sneak peek at the end that has me itching and dying for the next book. The wait is going to feel eternal
I am absolutely loving this series. There is so much to love, but the characters and the world created are second only to the plot/storyline. This story picks up right where the previous book left off with Flynn and Davin getting comfortable with their partnership and helping their friends ready the space next door for their new bakery. Flynn and Davin are still just work partners when this begins, but it is so easy to see their connection and comfort levels with each other. Flynn’s mom must really have a knack for seeing things when she put these two together. They are perfect for each other and their actual relationship hasn’t even advanced yet!
To be fair, there has been a lot going on in their lives what with solving the last murder and now someone trying to kill Flynn, or so they think. Meanwhile, Flynn is still trying to learn more about the dragon world and his powers, etc. Again, another interesting part of this story. Flynn’s ability to speak with animals is another endearing aspect, and the animals in his life are just a wonderful addition. From Suze the Sloth guarding the front bushes, to my absolute favorite, Plot Twist, the voracious kitten who latched on to Flynn and has no intention of letting go. I absolutely love their voices and banter which bring a fun and entertaining aspect to the story. Not to mention, they each have their roles in Flynn’s or his friends’ lives in varying capacities. Needless to say, they are a highlight of the story for me.
But, Flynn and Davin are starting to gain some momentum through this as they help each other through the various events that take place. It is easy to see they are perfect for each other and it seems they just need to find the time to explore things further. My one and only niggle at this point of the story is that I wish it was longer, but that is just me not wanting to be done with the story. I savored every page and still found myself finishing in record time. Things are still a bit up in the air for Knight and Daywalker, but their lives are clearly evolving. Looks like we will get to see things play out in the next one, Masquerade, and I cannot wait to sink my teeth into that one. Highly recommend for those who enjoy a good supernatural/paranormal story that isn’t filled with sex and relationship drama. This one reminds me of one of my favorite long-time series – The Hollows by Kim Harrison. Great job, Sam Burns!!
Sam Burns is an auto buy/read author for me, a consistently excellent writer whose stories never fail to engage my imagination as well as my heart.
Knight & Daywalker is another fantastic hit of a paranormal/urban fantasy trilogy from Burns with one last novel to go.
In Façade, the second book in this series, Burns moves her characters into new territory, exploring new powers, expanding their relationships, and diving further into their respective backgrounds to bring them and this series into a broader and richer world and with a darker mystery to investigate.
Flynn Knight has multiple problems ahead of him, new friends and neighbors to explore and help get settled, along with maybe bf/business partner, Davin Byrne to sort things through with. Plus he’s got his scary kitty of unknown origins, to feed.
How Burns beautifully develops the new storylines alongside the evolution of the characters growth in their relationships and powers is a joy to read. This is a great read and one I couldn’t put down until it was finished.
And that teaser at the end? That intro into the first chapter of Masquerade? How I want that book right now!
Low spice romance, high adventure, fantastic characters and amazing storytelling.
Highly recommend this book and the series. Read them in the order they were written.

Façade is the second book in the Knight & Daywalker series. This series is set in the Fantastic Fluke universe. This series should be read in order. We are back with Flynn and Davin for more of the story. I couldn't put this book down once I started it. I love the characters and world building that went into this series. But the plot is really good also. At this point Flynn and Davin are still just work partners but you can see that they are slowly becoming more. So much happens in this book that I know I will read it again and again. I can't wait for the next book to see what happens next. If you get the audio narration, Greg Tremblay does a wonderful job of narrating this series. He makes the the book come to life. I would definitely recommend this book. received a free review copy
This picks up after the first and definitely needs to be read in order. We've got another mystery on our hands and these two on the case. I like how Flynn learns more about himself through the course of this investigation on who is out to get Davin. Davin, Flynn's work partner...and myabe more, is a vampire who doesn't act like any vampire Flynn knows. The pace is extremely well done. All the characters, side and other, are very well thought out. The relationship between Flynn and Davin starts to take a new turn, and I love the slow burn that builds between these guys. I adore this series and it's perfect for any who love an urban fantasy setting!
My reviews are my own. If you liked this book, I’m glad you enjoyed it. If not, I respect your opinion. This is merely my opinion, so let's keep it courteous. My review is honest and voluntary.
On the first one, I had issues with the MC - Fynn. In this one, he is a bit better, but then the other MC-Davin is useless. The overall issue with him was ridiculous. You supposedly have all of these overfull people, and they have a street fight? The story in this book was lame; on the first one, at least, the story was entertaining. Poor me, I own an island.....PLEASE! Dropping the series.
Facade is the second book in Sam Burns Knight and Daywalker series and picks up more or less where book one leaves off. It was a slower story in my opinion than the first, more character developments, (and romantic ones!)
There's plenty more learning about being a dragon from Flynn, learning more about his slimy cousin, and more.
It's definitely building up to something more in book three, where book one had lots of action to get us hooked on the series. This one was just kind of there. I personally didn't find anything super stand out about the book but I'm still looking forward to book three!
I received an ARC of this book, and this is my honest review.
I love Sam Burns so much. The books are so delightful that you want to devour them whole, but at the same time you don't want to read them because then you won't have them to look forward to. Devouring always wins though, and I thoroughly enjoyed this one. Flynn is such a relatable, fun badass of a character. All the characters are memorable, and make me hope they will star in future books. The plot is interesting. Can't wait for more!!
This was a great world and character-building spin off to Fantastic Fluke series starter. Flynn is so adorable and still finding himself in the mix of all the action. Davin his business partner, our resident Vampire, is the love interest, but this is going to be a slow burn romance that develops throughout the series. I actually listened to the audible version and Greg's narration was flawlessly fun. He voice is going to be all of these guys in my mind now.
This is book 2 in the series and must be read in order. The story starts off at the end of book one with Flynn and Davin working together. Flynn also needs to prepare for having new tenants for the restaurant next door. There is a new mystery that needs to be solved, along with Flynn learning more about himself and Davin. I loved the progression of this story and it has great world building. Cannot wait to read the next one.
Flynn continues to be adorable - he is such a people person and I am here for that. Loved the action, the drama, Blair!, Davin, and of course Twist. Sexton was also a nice surprise in the end. The mystery keeps ramping up, and I can't even imagine what the big bad really is. Looking forward to more.
4.25/5. More interesting, but felt like the writing felt a bit… disjointed. Like, it fit well when he was lost in his ADHD sauce, but it made things a little wonky here and there when he wasn’t. I’m enjoying this new adventure in a familiar world, but I will never enjoy these covers. 😬
I absolutely loved this second book. Definitely make sure you listen/read book 1 first. oh wow what a fun ride. I love seeing everyone and some new people in this second book. I still have many questions and can't wait for the 3rd book to come out! Awesome narrator and author!
I had a blast reading this book. This as well as the first one was such a good time & really easy to read. All the characters are so fun and lovable and the blossoming romance made me so happy. The chemistry between Flynn and Davin is fantastic and they just fit so well together. I can’t wait for book three.
I love Flynn, Davin, and Twist, as well as the rest of the gang, including Detective Cain. This series is a lot of fun but needs to be read in order. Now someone is trying to kill Davin and…oh wait…we have more dragons! I enjoy this author’s characters and can’t wait to see where this goes in the next book. Devin and Flynn are Jupiter getting started.
This book was good… EXCEPT for the constant posturing about having money and how it could feed people etc etc… it was okay in book 1 but by book 2, it became annoying. It felt more like the book is trying to mold my brain into thinking having any sort of financial comfort is bad. Outside of that the main character’s personality was dull and lacked body. The author didn’t even try to expound on the MC any further. 🙄
An amazing story teller. Spins a phenomenal tale. Very much looking forward to more stories. Has a very intriguing way of putting their thoughts to life. Very much looking forward to a continuing story line.
Flynn's story continues on in this second book of Knight & Day walker series. In this book we got a bit of a new romance happening between the main characters, which was awesome. I loved it. Great work by the author.
This series has been very entertaining so far in my opinion. I love all of the interesting secondary characters and the awesome animals as well. Can’t wait for the next one.
I’m absolutely happy to have discovered this series! Knight and Daywalker are probably the cutest couple to ever get together. I’m really looking forward to reading more books in this series! Highly Recommended
I still like these characters, and this remains an entertaining read even if it veers rather farther into "cozy" and away from the mystery/urban fantasy than I'd prefer.
