A lot of introspection. It's rough to get through, and only lets up about 30% into the story when we finally get some interactions with other characters. This is mainly a soft litRPG, where it's basically skills and classes that move the story forward. Not a big fan of the Cheat Code that is our MC. It basically gets to have its cake, eat it, and get all the other stuff in the pantry. There is no tension. The MC is a literal chess piece in the gods great game, and anything that it comes across that may prove an obstacle is solved by the god in question. If you want a low stakes power gathering fantasy then I'd recommend this to you. Not my cup of tea
Syl gets reincarnated as a slime and starts adventuring. As Syl levels, Syl gathers traits and skills, mixing and matching as needed to win the day. Syl evolves, poses as a goblin then an elf, and meets humans who take him to a town then a city. Syl quickly becomes a powerhouse.
This is a fun read in an interesting world. It is not really a standalone novel so much as a rambling adventure. The overall plot is “see which godly experiment wins” but in the book it’s not so clear what’s being worked toward. In many respects Syl is a fish out of water studying land and trying to understand it. I enjoyed it and hope you will too
200 pages and no plot. Without that it’s just skill descriptions and perfunctory battles that lead to more skill descriptions. I kind of enjoyed it until I realised that nothing was ever going to happen.
I really liked this story. Starting as a slime in a LitRPG environment as part of an experiment? Now THAT is different. I liked how Syl advanced, lots of action (surprisingly with a slime), with not everything going great. Basically starting from zero and slowly advancing.
I liked the very occasional changes in POV to the omnipotent experimenters, just to change things up a bit.
What I didn't like (more like a very minor annoyance) was all the stats listing. It could have been condensed. We don't need to know ALL the monsters who were killed along with their individual stats. It's impressive but it does go on. Fortunately not every chapter, more like every 3 to 4.
I liked how Syl tried to create new spells and skills but nothing ever just came to them immediately; they had to work for it. In some stories the protagonist just tries something and bing-bang-boom they suddenly have some over the top skill. Too much! I was glad to see it sometimes actually took days to get, or even was impossible (and then later they find out why by talking to someone else, which leads to other thoughts, and trying something new, etc.) I love experimenters.
All in all this a very long book and I was unhappy when it ended. I. WANT. A. SEQUEL!
The first 10 hours are a fun jaunt through the world as a slime but for the rest of the book she’s a human (I know she’s an elf but it’s basically the same). The book is full of the worst tropes in LITRPG. Main Character is great at everything. Everyone is always amazed that main character has rare skills and can do anything. Main character has no regard for human life but scolds other people for the same. Main character gets a choice of 2 skills, one skill that will hamper her current growth and another skill that’s obviously just unlimited power and the book wants to make a huge deal that she took obviously unlimited power, like main character is a genius and has such great for thought.
The “gods” are running experiments, giving sentience to monsters whose only weakness is that they’re unintelligent and they’re amazed that those monsters become basically all powerful. The monsters, for some reason, are left with knowledge of their previous life unlike every other living being on the planet, that certainly couldn’t contaminate to results. They also get custom abilities which will certainly give a fair and balanced view of how the race works, in case you can’t tell, it’s all nonsense but it’s played completely straight.
Go ahead and snatch up this fun book to enjoy Syl's evolution!
Ohhhh! Such! Fun! Squee! I love this book so much! This is a story of a do-over where a kid was Isekaied after being poisoned, straight into a Blue Slime with no status, not a memory, or a name! The Slime soon starts figuring out how things work. It's a free-for-all survival of the fittest! And the first thing it has ta do, after eating some it's brethren slime, is escape the Slime Farm. Then it's all about getting levels and titles even goin through an evolution. It more or less accidentally meets up with an Elf where upon she names her Syl. And wow it's all about titles and strength! By using mimicry Syl is able to convince everyone that she's the Elf that named her! And Syl finally, Finally gets the mage class she needed! As she rushes head long to gold rank, within the Adventurers Guild! Soooooooo yeah grab the book since it's got a couple of my favorite tropes... slimes, and do-overs. You'll love it guaranteed!
Syl Nucleus is "Reincarnated as a slime" cute version. It has a lot of similarities, advancement by consumption, evolving, etc. Syl nucleus has moments that are cute and funny, the side characters can be unique and interesting but often feel one dimensional.
Syl Nucleus has what you'd expect, a bit of comedy, A slime eating things, and interesting interactions.
I personally found Syl Nucleus to lack much depth, and the world building is almost non-existent. It has a bit of "Author sucking MC off" where some side scenes are dedicated to us hearing about how awesome Syl is. I'm usually not a fan of this since we the readers already know how awesome MC is, so we actually don't need the author telling us. However, these scenes were that prevalent, but it does take away from the story.
There wasn't too much wrong with this story, i debated putting it between 3-4. and i found its probably closer to a 3.6-3.7/5.
Its not the first monster progression I’ve read, not even the first slime progression I’ve read, but its unique. And I liked it.
I think my favorite part of it is actually the mystery surrounding the ‘experiments’ and the interactions Sylvia has with ‘Gramps’ during its evolutions.
The flow of the story is good, the pacing is steady, and the narrative is a delight. Told most frequently from Syl’s first person perspective, it’s also rather fun to occasionally get a glimpse of a third person perspective of the same events (spoiler example- Syl’s fight with the forest king). I’m looking forward to reading further installments!
My only issue is some of the editing mistakes that slipped through. It doesn’t ruin the flow or pacing, but I’m a nitpicker when it comes to editing.
Syl escapes the farm and after hunting and growing in the forest even manages to join the Adventurer's Guild, but this is just the beginning of the adventure.
The protagonist doesn't actually remember knowing "Gramps" even though this entity appears to have helped them through previous reincarnations. While he sounds quite secretive Gramps seem actually helpful and reasonable most of the times, especially compared to the others, and genuinely wants her to grow.
I like that the main character, Syl, was transmigrated, but due to having very few memories of that past life, it's more just an explanation for how things got started and not something the character thinks about.
As a result, Syl looks at and interacts with the world more from the point of view of a smart, but on occasion naive, kid and not an adult trying to remake the world or return to the prior world.
Her primary goals so far are survival, growing stronger, and exploration. I really enjoy books with dungeon/ town/ etc. building, but it's nice to read stories where the location changes every so often, too. 😊
I was expecting something on the lines of That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime.
But the story is moreso a combination of Chrysalis and Azarinth Healer. A person is reborn as a monster due to the gods and has to find their way in a brand new world of magic, monsters, and adventures. Great world-building, a well developing magic and class system, and fun variety of characters had me completing this book before I realized I reached the end.
Looking forward to book 2 and seeing where this story goes.
The story is focused on progression and it does it really well. Over the course, most stories end up giving too many skills/abilities that it becomes impossible to progress them all yet alone keep track. This one does this too but unlike the others skills have reachable caps. This way they end up getting maxed out so we can move on to new skill which is brilliant in my opinion. Also maxing out a skill still means something since it is not easy to do and becomes OP.
Herd a few people gush about this series, so I will give it a go.
I had this book for a while and put it off. I regret that. Other than the slow start (which is usual with these types of books, as they try to lay some sort of solid foundation as to why this would work in the first place), this turned out really entertaining. I will pick up book two.
The cover made me feel it was some sort of slime anime novel, one of the reasons I avoided so long.
An interesting litrpg about an amnesiac slime just trying to survive. But it goes from surviving to thriving through a mix of heinous crimes like cannibalism and identity fraud. It is a true menace to society. The overall intrigue of the world continues to grow in the background in proportion to Syl's own insatiable pursuit of improvement. Its greed sickens me.
Also, I read the elf's name as Slytherin every single time.
The beginning was extremely slow, it takes a lot of effort to both define a world and a completely new hero. There are no tropes to draw form. Magic is also completely different. I really don't like the framework but the story easily over rides my complaints. The epilogue was also pretty good.
I read alot of litrpg and most of the monster based stories have the same problem. They are interesting for the first few chapters and then get boring as the novelty wore off. This isn't one of those stories the characters are well written and the world and setting are fascinating. I'm glad I read this book and I'm looking forward to book two.
One of the better monster as MC stories. At times Syl's advancement pathway is difficult to follow, but no other complaints. Who starts life as a lowly slime, and stays a slime, and seems to have no plans to stop being a slime. As long as it gets to mess around in human (?) society. Strongly recommend. Tom out
remind me of the anime that time I was reincarnated as a slime
I really enjoyed this. I’m glad that when I discovered it there’s already three books. I really like the main character and although like most litrpg books, the plot of the first book is mostly leveling up.
But I wasn’t bored at all, and I like the leveling system and I like all the characters.
This progression fantasy is fun, the main character is likeable and so are many of the others. There is a lot info dumping about the magic and stuff but honestly it’s not horrible and I really enjoyed reading/listening to it on audible, the narrators are good, clear and expressive. This isn’t a 5 star read but whatever, it was a nice read, very fun.
So nice to read one of these LitRPG books where the main characters is NOT a moron. It is refreshing. This MC actually sets traps, stealth attacks, uses his charisma and talks himself out of bad situations.
The only thing I don't like, is that there is way too much god interference. God interference cheapens the actions of the characters, and makes them seem like puppets of fate.
Hated the last battle. When a whole bunch of characters are cracking jokes, while supposedly in a life and death battle.... it rubs me the wrong way. It made the whole thing cheesy, stupid, and unrealistic.
I think I can safely throw in the towel after 2 months of never wanting to pick up the book. Maybe if other characters were interacted with earlier (I never got to them at 130 pages), it wouldn't have been such a slog. But this was just pure power progression with tiny glimpses of an outside world that might be interesting... if we ever got to it.
Not at all what I was expecting but in a good way! It’s fantasy litrpg goodness with some fun system experimentation and yes eventually the protagonist has a form that allows for adventuring and communication with other adventurers.
While this book is a bit slow to start it's absolutely worth sticking with. Following the story of a slime might not sound interesting, it really is. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I found characters to have personality and the world sounds like it could be interesting as well as it continues developing.
What a fun read! If you like monster evolution stories, like "Everyone Loves Large Chests" or "Chrysalis" this is a great choice for you. I'm looking forward to seeing where Syl goes next, and her adventures in a well defined world of magic and mistakes.
This was a real treat. I really enjoyed following Syl around. Lower levels are always my favorite. I look forward to the next book and the interesting things that the Author has in store.
A completely different take on slime reincarnation!
This is fantastic. Its everything I love about the morningwood series, with enough personality of its own. Very well done Lunadea. Hope there's at least 10 books planned!
It’s a decent litrpg. I can see how this may not be for everyone, lots of slice of life, but not a lot of interpersonal or other things going on for it. It’s pure litrpg, not any plot really, just the mc liven life(as a slime).
Love the first book. Can't wait to read the next. This book is so much fun. I love a book that's both exciting and laugh out loud funny. 2 more books are already out as I write this so will immediately start book two. See you at the book 2 review.😁
