Ten months after a disputed election, President Oliver flies to Camp David aboard Marine One. Accompanying him are his Chief of Staff, Dr. Mindy Noor, two political contributors, the Marine flight crew, and three Secret Service Agents. Over the Potomac River near Brunswick, Maryland, Marine One is shot down. As Crow O’Leary bikes along the C&O Canal, the decorated police officer is still dealing with his wife’s murder and his sinful act of revenge. Witnessing the attack on Marine One, Crow rushes to the crash site and becomes unwittingly thrown into the battle. He helps the survivors flee using creative modes of transportation. Along the way, their number is reduced to three, and they discover that not only are foreign forces involved, but also rebellious military members. The presence of these internal traitors makes it difficult to know whom to trust. President Oliver and Dr. Noor decide to place their faith in the hands of the local police officer.
Really good pacing throughout with a strong set of characters who each bring something new to the development of the story. The setting, far away from the cliche streets of New York or DC also brings a refreshing air to the story. A great book for the beach or a long flight.
