The Immortals #4

The Hidden Demon

Rate this book
A pariah among paranormals, Peter can touch the dead and read their last thoughts. Once an angel, now a demon, he is only tolerated by most because of his gift. Cursed with the power of influencing every woman or man he touches, Peter has lost any hope to experience true intimacy and companionship.

Headstrong and sensual as only werewolves can be, Ophelia is desperately in love with her best friend, Samuel, who is in love with someone else. In the middle of her personal crisis, Rome is taken by storm by the latest archaeology discovery, and as a forensic anthropologist, Ophelia is called to shed some light on the remains of a young couple embraced for eternity.

Peter is sent to the site to help identify the dead. Amidst Roman villas’ ruins and a mystery that has lasted for two millennia, he meets the striking werewolf, and Ophelia’s exotic beauty and sharp tongue pique his interest immediately.

Ophelia, too, is affected by Peter’s magnetism. Despite her heart belonging to someone else, Ophelia feels a pull toward Peter at first sight. An attraction that only grows stronger despite her doubts.

Unfortunately, what has started like any other reading for Peter soon becomes a nightmare in which real enemies from several factions want him and Ophelia dead rather than let them discover the truth.

Will they survive a manhunt the likes of which Rome has never seen? But most of all, will Peter and Ophelia remain unscathed by the fire of their burning passion?

I received a free ecopy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I have loved everything I have received from this author and this book is no exception.

Book #4 of the Immortals series, we are introduced to Peter who is a demon that has the job of reading the last moments of the dead. Ophelia, who we met in book #3 is still pining for Samual and doesn't know if she will ever find her true mate. The characters of Peter and Ophelia are so similar you wonder if they will ever fit together but at the same time how can they stay apart.

Peter and Ophelia come together to solve the mystery of the deaths of two lovers found entwined in a grave, one is the skeleton of a vampire which shouldn't exist in the first place. Peter's touch gives him the ability to see the last moments of someone before they die. His touch also has a powerful affect on a woman. His reputation proceeds him and Ophelia is instantly drawn to this demon and he is to her but soon he decides he wants more than a one night stand. What results is a powerful emotional tug of war that leaves you wondering if these two will ever hook up or remain stubborn and heartbroken.

All of the books in the Immortals series can be read as stand alone books or in order. I've read them all and each are great, this one so far is my favorite. I love the strong characters of both Ophelia and Peter as well as the mystery that encompasses them. Its a great story and one that shouldn't be missed.

Wonderful!!!

I was gifted this book by the Author Monica La Porta for an honest review.

What woman wouldn't want a touch from Peters hands, the sensations are other wordily! Ophelia is no exception, but she doesn't know what his hands would do to her....Her wolf is all for Peter, but she just will not admit that she feels anything but lust for him.

Peter wants Ophelia, but he doesn't want to touch her because he doesn't just want her body, he wants her heart with it. He has to exert herculean control to not ravish her and show her the passion his hands can invoke from her. This control of his is causing havoc on Ophelia, but she wants no other.

Will Ophelia acknowledge that she feels more than just lust for the Demon and will the Demon be able to control his hunger for her much longer?

Powerful forces are at work to keep these two from their work, Peter reads the dead and Ophelia is the Forensic Anthropologist and investigates the bones. They don't want the latest bone discovery investigates, but Peter and Ophelia will not stop.

Lots of action and frustrated love that kept me on the edge of my seat, thinking this is it! I actually rooted when these two finally come together.

I love The Immortal Series, every one is awesome in itself, but this one was so intriguing!

This a must read for all Paranormal lovers.

I received an ARC of this, & as a new comer to Monica's work I came in blind, not sure what to expect I started this book today & read through most the day, totally ENTRANCED with the story! This is book 4 in Monica's Immortal series, but I understood everything that was going on in this books, so feel it could be read without the rest. When I get paid next the rest of this series is going to be snapped up... actually maybe all her books! I recommend you read this book, it's amazing! The banter between Peter (sex crazed demon with the power to read the dead) & Ophelia (headstrong flirty female werewolf) is just fun to read plus the sexual tension is electrifying. The plot was packed full of action, information & totally sexy... it was a pleasure to read & sooo hard to put down.

I was given this ARC for an honest review. I am not familiar with The Immortals Series. However, after reading The Hidden Demon Book #4 I will go back and read all the prior books I have missed out on. Monica is so detail oriented I felt like I was in the story as a very minor character witnessing every single heart stopping and shocking moment. She weaves a realistic tale that has you wanting to scream, cry, hugs, and kiss Peter & Ophelia. I never thought I would even think about wanting to kill an angel before but oh boy my mind has sure changed about that. I really enjoyed getting to know the characters that support and make up this merry band of immortals. I can't wait to start at the beginning and not miss a thing. Bravo Monica!

I received this as a ARC for a honest review.

Now, this starts out slowly, but once you get the ideal of who the players are and who are the leads it is very well put together. Now I will attempt not to put any spoilers in my review but it is always possible.

We have a demon who was an angel, a werewolf lady and angels, vampires and oh my so many others who are on this very complex book. It is very complex!! Very well written and in depth look at a mystery which slowly unfolds in front of you.

This book will grab you and drag you under as it did me. I lost sleep over trying to finish this deeply dark love story!! I just wish I could give it more then just 5 stars!!

The name of her book is THE HIDDEN DEMON. This book follows Fallen Angel in her series. This is book 4 in the IMMORTAL SERIES. And I must say that I was not disappointed at all. First let me tell you all that I rec'd and ARC of this amazing and fast moving story. In exchange for it. Here is mousieys very honest opinion of her book.
Remembering that I only give you little nibbles .. This book takes up where Fallen Angel left off, We find Peter about to leave the apartment of one night stand. He is a controller- a demon who once was an angel one who was incharge of souls. Now he reads dead souls. It takes alot out of and it leaves their imprint in him each time he does it. He can not physical touch anyone. As they will lust after him- he can not have a true relationship with anyone. It haunts it- the only thing that he wants and he can not have it. He sees Ophelia-she tells him to leave her alone. Her wolf howled out in pain. Ophelia is actually in love with Simon and she is the cause that his girlfriend to need to be changed into a vampire . She is now a vampling. Any rate back to this story= there boss calls them to tell them about two bodies being found entwined together. He wants them to go down to the site and keep the press away from the skeletons and investigate what is going. During the investigation Peter and Ophelia keep getting threatened. Peter goes to the morgue to do reading on the bodies- which takes alot out of him.But it all part of the investigation. He has to find out who killed these 2 young people. Now , I need to tell you this book has a lot of twist and turns in it. It is full of excitement and action. This is one book that you have to read. It is such a nail biter and you can not put it down till you reach the very last page,This book is for every paranormal lover!! Mousiey gives The Hidden Demon a firm 40 out of 5 stars. Considered the lowest of the lows among the paranormal community, demon Peter wants nothing more then to keep his head down. He's only tolerated because of his gift of reading the dead's last thoughts. Working for the Immortal Council, he finds some comfort in working with the dead. Cursed with the power of influencing every man or woman he touches with lust, he craves the intimacy he can never have.
The latest archeological discovery stuns the human and paranormal worlds alike. Peter is asked to do a reading and discover what happened, but he isn't alone, forensic anthropologist, Ophelia is on the case as well.
When the truth begins to unravel, Peter and Ophelia find themselves in the middle of danger. Not only are their lives at stake, but their very hearts as well. Can Ophelia find love in another or will she forever pin for Samuel? Will Peter ever be able to find intimacy with an uncertain past and cursed touch?

Scorching hot! This is the best book yet! I admit I'm a bit biased since I love demons, but Peter is absolutely drool-worthy and sexy. A definite new number one book boyfriend! Ophelia compliments him perfect. She's an independent, smart and sassy firecracker. The chemistry between the two is fun, sweet and sizzling.
The storyline was amazing and I had no problem reading this book all day. The twists and turns keep you guessing till the very end. It was action-packed and got your heart racing, not to mention the emotional-gripping main characters that pulled at your heart strings and completely immersed you in the story.

I wanted to share my favorite line from the book and show what an amazing character Peter is:
“I owe the dead the courtesy of listening to them so they can be free from the pain and the sorrow of living.”

If you've read the series or even if your new to it, you'll love this book! It's definitely not one to miss! Monica La Porta sure can spin an amazing tale and she keeps delivering better and better each time.

This was the first book I have read by Monica LaPorta and it certainly will not be my last. Although this book is #4 in The Immortals Series I didn't feel like I was missing any background information that put me at a disadvantage while reading the book.

Peter is a demon and is considered the lowest on the chain. He is called by Arariel to do a reading of the dead, which Peter specializes in. There he finds a couple intertwined and questions are raised on the species of the dead and how they died. There he meets a Forensic Anthropologist werewolf named Ophelia. Sparks fly between the two of them but they are both hesitant to get involved with each other.

Both Peter and Ophelia are stubborn and normally into one-night stands. The banter between the two of them is great and the sexual tension between them is very intense!

As they both dive further into their investigation their lives are on the line as constant attempts are made to force them out of their investigation. Also on the line is their feelings for each other.

As they get deeper into the mystery they both must find what they are really searching for and at what length will they go to protect the other one from danger.

The book is full of suspense and mystery and I was definitely surprised at the ending. I loved how all the different groups of paranormals got along and there wasn't any of the fighting between groups that is usually seen in books. This to me was a huge bonus and one of the parts of the book that I loved!

Again it was an honour to receive an ARC of The Hidden Demon, by Monica La Porta. The Fourth book in The Immortals series. What an absolute joy to finally meet Peter and to pair him with Ophelia was a stroke of genius by the author. Peter who has existed on the edges of his world, only knowing disdain and being looked down on. Meeting Ophelia and daring to love shows us his inner strength and his true nature. Although classified as a demon, Peter is integrity and loyalty personified. His quest for pure love tells us of his hopes that he is not beyond redemption. Ophelia is perfect for him, strong and dominating, she is not afraid to submit to her soulmate. Peter and Ophelia, both have their stories to tell, how they have become as we know them, and how their love transforms them into the beings they have always wanted to become. " A love so pure it transcends time ", my favourite quote so far. What a beautiful thing to wish for, and this coming from a demon. This shows Peter in his true light, not as a demon, but as an angel who has been " tampered with " In my other reviews for the first three books, I expressed my concern that maybe the author could not surpass herself, boy did she prove me wrong, and am I glad she did. This is by far her best book yet. Now I won't ask myself if Monica La Porta can do better, I know she can and will. I am only curious whose story we shall read next. Whoever it is, I am positive that their tale will transcend time itself and will catapult Ms. La Porta into one of the best authors around.

Peter is a demon, a fallen angel who chose to have his memory wiped and fall for his misdeeds, and, as a result, can't remember his past. A demon who has to wear gloves all the time, and whose touch inspires instant lust. Thus, he has earned his reputation of being one hot, sexy, make 'em scream long and loud demon. Unfortunately for him, these encounters leave him unsatisfied and, deep down, he craves the intimacy of a relationship. Being a demon, Peter is an undesirable in the paranormal world. However, due to his ability to read the dead's last thoughts through touch, he works for the Immortal Council. When sent out to investigate a stunning new archeological discovery, Peter meets Ophelia, a wolf shifter, who is the Forensic Anthropologist covering the same case. Although still carrying a torch for Samuel who has found his mate, Ophelia is extremely attracted to Peter, as is her wolf. As the case gets more complicated putting both their lives at risk, the couple does not know who they can trust anymore. Battling their lust for each other, Peter refuses to touch Ophelia as he comes to want her to desire him for himself. Passion and intrigue morph into nonstop action that pits our couple against almost everybody. Full of exciting plot twists and interesting secondary characters, this well-written novel kept me reading incessantly until the end.

I am reviewing this book on behalf of katsindiebookblog. I love Monica and her books. Not once have I ever been let down. I do believe this would have to be one of my favorites! Ophelia is your shifter/werewolf who's mind is too stubborn and tends to act alpha. She has yet to find her heart filled, since the let down of Samuel. She has no problem filling her needs though. Peter is a fallen angel who chose to have his memories wiped so he didn't have to remember the bad he caused inn order to have fallen. That process turned him demon. His touch to any woman will turn them on instantly, so he has no problem filling his needs either. The 2 get pushed together by a job, and the banter starts immediately between them. They eventually realize they can't have each other, but will that keep them apart from each other? There job doesn't end up being the easiest job out there and basically are put on a hit list. In the heat of the fight, does their passion between them grow as well? Can they find a way to make love work? They both thought they were destined to never love. Can 2 completely different, yet same people, from different sides of the track become one? The only way to find out is to get this book. And if you loved the character in her previous books, Monica lets you keep tabs on them in here. Come get lost in the world of Monica's. You won't be disappointed.

The Hidden Demon is book 4 in the Immortal Series, a sophisticated paranormal romance set in and around Rome. Peter is a demon, a loner, he is a renegade controller of the paranormal world and works for The Holy Council at Castel Sant' Angelo. More importantly he can read the dead and find out their last thoughts before death which often reveal their cause of death.

He's sent to help paranormal forensic anthropologist Ophelia Neferet when unusual remains of vampire and werewolf lovers are found. They must solve the mystery as well as deflect the human paparazzi who are clamouring for a story.

Peter begins to unravel the tragic story of Lucilla and Valerio but others in the paranormal world are not happy with their work. Threats, kidnapping, arson and abduction follow. Working together the two discover strong feeling for each other but Peter is cursed and cannot touch Ophelia freely without forcing her to last after him. As the net closes in on Peter and Ophelia, past discoveries reveal answers to long ago questions and possibilities for the future grow.

I loved the idea that the demon Peter wasn't all bad at all, turning the tables on normal demon characteristics worked really well. There was lots of Italian scenery to enjoy and of course some sizzling romance as I've come to expect from this series.

Wow wow wow!!! Well what can I say! Monica gifted me a arc in return for an honest review and here it is! I'm always telling Monica this book is my favourite then she goes writes another amazing book that becomes my new favourite!!

This book is beautifully written and packed with so much emotion, and so much sexiness, I love ophelia Fire she has been a strong character throughout the immortals series and I have been looking forward to her story, and have wondered about Peter who was mentioned a couple of time throughout the series a very dark and sexy character and have to say I'm liking him very much :0)

Monica is excellent at explaining places/environments that you can almost feel as if your there!,I love the fact that you can read this as a stand alone or the whole series, the fact the characters are mentioned and involved through out the series of the immortals is fantastic, and to be honest I have only read 3 of the series, a note to self must read the rest!!

If your looking for a romance packed with action, danger, love, and all this sexiness then grab this book!! Definitely worth the 5 stars I have given and a shame I can't rate it higher!!
As always well done Monica I love your work xx

(I was given an ARC of this book for my honest review)

The story follows Peter, a cursed demon and Ophelia, a heartbroken werewolf, who have to work together to solve a mystery surrounding 2 bodies that have been uncovered. Through twists and turns throughout the story, they discover the mystery is closer to them then they initially realized and they are thrusts into danger as they try to solve it. Along the way they realize they also have feelings for each but are not sure if they should act upon them.

I was not sure how I would like this book because the author was new to me, but I am happy to say that this book turned out to be a fantastic read. I am a huge fan of paranormal romance and this book had all of my favorite elements - action, a little humor, great characters (so many different kinds of paranormals within the story) and of course romance.

I found that I couldn't put the book down and wanted to know what happens next. It is book 4 in the Immortals Series and now I HAVE TO READ THE REST IN THE SERIES.

I had the great fortune to be gifted an ARC of The Hidden Demon. I’ve read the previous three books and I have to say this new addition to Monica La Porta’s Immortals series is a fabulous read! I loved it. We still had glimpses of the other characters, like Samuel, Marcus etc but this story is focused on the werewolf, Ophelia, and Demon, Peter. Hot hot hot! I don’t do spoilers, or I try hard not to. I have to admit I was almost shouting at the pages at some points, hoping and wishing for a happy ending! I guess you’ll just have to read it for yourself to find out if I got my HEA! There was suspense, action and passion in this story that truly brought it to life for me and I have no hesitation in telling you that you should definitely read this book! Go grab your copy folks ‘cause it’s a wonderfully exciting story!

My heart really went out to Peter. To be treated as the low of the low must have been so soul destroying. Especially when you can't remember why you were being punished in this way. He may have been a Demon but he was a demon with a heart. His anguish during this story is clear to read, and before you get very far into this book you want him to have a happy ending. He is such an endearing character and very well characterised by the author. It is a very good addition to the immortals series and is worth a good 5* review. Its a pity there are no 6* reviews available, or I would give this book one.

This was the first book I have read by this author and I was totally blown away by it. I have not read any other books in her immortals series but never felt like I was lost in the book for not having read previous ones. I really enjoyed how the author tied everything together and made the ending feel completely natural and not forced. I will definitely be looking forward to more books in this series and this author in the future.

As a demon, Peter is a pariah but has the skill that he can touch the dead and read their last thoughts, so is tolerated by the rest of the paranormal community. However, he is also cursed because any person that he touches he can influence - so he is convinced that he will live his days out with no intimacy nor any companionship. Wolf shifter and forensic anthropologist Ophelia is in love with her best friend Samuel who is totally in love with someone else so going through a personal crisis. So when the remains of a couple are discovered in an embrace both Ophelia and Peter are pulled in to find out what happened and who they are. Having met on site, their wit, intellect and attraction become something that cannot be denied and they feel an inescapable pull towards each other. Problems start when it becomes apparent that they are forces involved that want the story to remain hidden and they find themselves fighting to save themselves. Can they survive the situation and will the pull they feel between each other become impossible to deny?

This was a great story which has a lot of drama, danger, passion and even inter-species politics all pulled into a story which will suddenly become both deadly and undeniable as they end up fighting to save each other from the forces that would prefer that the truth stayed buried. There were some nice touches in this story and it makes you think how would we each cope as individuals if we were not able to touch people we cared about nor be able to tell the difference between an automatic reaction and true passion. I loved the ending of the story and it was so special to experience how they managed to get past all the problems that were in the way. Well written and a very enjoyable story.

Yet another well written and developed story by the author. Peter is very different from any of the previous characters we have met and he is paired to work with Ophelia, who is still heartbroken that the love of her life Samuel has met and fallen in love with his soul mate.
Fast paced and tense at times, I love the fact that Angels are portrayed as a bunch of stuffed shirts and might in actual fact be the bad guys?
Great addition to the series.

I am a big fan of Monica La Porta’s work and The Hidden Demon, the fourth installment in the paranormal romance/urban fantasy series The Immortals set in Rome, delivers good romantic/science fiction of the paranormal genre.
A pariah among paranormals, Peter can touch the dead and read their last thoughts. Once an angel, now a demon, he is only tolerated by most because of his gift. Peter works for the Holy council for want of better description, he does whatever they tell he must do. Imagine a job where you did what you were told and you had better do it well or with just a command your boss could literally burn you from the inside out, sort of gives new meaning to the phrase “I hate my job” and for the most part, he does. Cursed with the power of influencing every woman or man he touches, Peter has lost any hope to experience true intimacy and companionship. These can have their advantages but only in the worldly sense and for a demon, they rarely suffice. Ether he pledged his loyalty to the Holy Council or he became a renegade angel with no paranormal rights in this world.

Peter is sent to the site to help identify the dead. As a reader of the dead’s last thoughts, he often felt powerless and overwhelmed but yet it was also the only thing he felt he could do for them, allowing them to be heard. And when the dead are paranormals, their message takes on a very important meaning, especially for Peter’s other employer, the Immortal Counsel. He pays a big price for this but insists upon doing this for those unheard souls. His abilities allowed them to be free from the pain and sorrow of living. His pain is further deepened as he is haunted by the inability to recall any memory of having been an angel or the sins that had caused him to fall from grace after choosing to be a demon rather than remain a fallen angel.
Amidst Roman villas’ ruins and a mystery that has lasted for two millennia, he meets the striking werewolf, and Ophelia’s exotic beauty and sharp tongue pique his interest immediately. This is surreal for Peter whose usual lust is short lived and rarely if ever of any interest such as feels for Ophelia. Headstrong and sensual as only werewolves can be, Ophelia is desperately in love with her best friend, Samuel, who is in love with someone else. In the middle of her personal crisis, Rome is taken by storm by the latest archeology discovery, and as a forensic anthropologist, Ophelia is called to shed some light on the remains of a young couple embraced for eternity.

Ophelia, too, is affected by Peter’s magnetism. Despite her heart belonging to someone else, Ophelia feels a pull toward Peter at first sight. An attraction that only grows stronger despite her doubts.

Unfortunately, what has started like any other reading for Peter soon becomes a nightmare in which real enemies, from a pack of vampires to several other factions want him and Ophelia dead rather than let them discover the truth. The many factions involved are feuding, are they alleys or enemies of Peter and Ophelia?

Will they survive a manhunt the likes of which Rome has never seen? But most of all, will Peter and Ophelia remain unscathed by the fire of their burning passion? The author creates excellent romantic tension between her two main characters and does a very good job keeping this plot going with a lot of interaction among other paranormal entitles. Another fun and enjoyable read from Monica.

Shifters, vamps, weres, angels... not the sort of characters I find in my every day reads.
I pick up books with strong plots in which to get lost, to pull me in so I can escape when I read for enjoyment.
This book satisfied all my reading desires and more.
Action, adventure, danger, romance and well developed characters that I become attached to.
After reading The Hidden Demon I know I wil pick up and enjoy more by this author.

This series can be appreciated by both genders of all ages, but I would suggest at least high school age
due to mature subjects.
The good vs evil characters in this book are not paranormal vs human.
They all appealed to my appreciation for historical fiction.
I laughed at the portrayal of paparazzi and trashy journalists. So true to real life no matter the century.
The seedy night club scenes satisfied my tv drama watching side.
Every time I thought the main charcters had weathered the storm and were entitled to time in the sun,
to relax and become acquainted on a more personal level, someone else attacked!

Usually I would feel left hanging, only learning bits and pieces of memories that explained the plot, but in this case there was so much happening that I enjoyed the way history was revealed. In the end all was explained.

I did get a copy of this book from the author but the review and opinions are my own.

ANOTHER GREAT ADDITION TO THE IMMORTALS SERIES

Just a short review. Read this series in the order written. You will thoroughly enjoy each book and enjoy getting to know every one of the characters. They will become your constant companions in this paranormal series. Author, Monica La Porta is an outstanding new Author with a knack for blending all paranormal types and humans.

Ms. LaPorta has created an exceptional paranormal world in Rome, Italy with interesting information which adds to this worlds credibility. It has made me want to visit Rome to enjoy their croissants and other foods while taking in all the history and Roman architecture.

This particular book has a little more sexual content but, again, it is not too detailed and leaves it to the reader to create their own fantasy. I really enjoyed this book and think you will too. Start with book one, you will be hooked and enjoy paranormal romance at its finest.

KUDOS Ms. LaPorta on another tale extremely well told.

wonderful!!!

After reading about Angels in the previous book, I was very hung Ho to read this one. I loved it. Fallen angels like Samuel in the last book, or Fallen angels turned demons like the hero in thus one (Peter) seem a lot nicer, and more human, if immortal. Peter and Ophelia's story is very touching, and very romantic. So many twists and turns I was caught from beginning to End. Loved it!! So very worth reading!!

Peter was an angel like Samuel, however he chose not to remember the reason he fell. Peter has a unique power in that he can read the dead's last thoughts. He wears gloves all the time do he doesn't touch someone reading their thoughts. He has always been alone but finds someone who intrigues him but knows it's hopeless, but is it? Another great book that brings all the characters from previous books together. This is what I like about this author. She truly keeps this a solid series.

OMG WOW, These books just keep getting better & better. I loved getting lost in this story ( housework totally forgotten). The way it's written will suck you in from page 1, take you on an amazing journey and will leave you wanting more by the end
Exceptionally written and I would highly recommend it.

What happens when you put a werewolf and a demon on the same murder investigation? Sparks and fur fly in this fun paranormal romance. Set amongst Roman ruins and archeological discoveries, Peter and Ophelia must solve an ancient mystery without being killed in the process. A light-hearted read, I’d recommend this to anyone who enjoys paranormal romance.
