Bound by shattered memories of a former life, they must reach the Tree of Yggdrasil before it burns. Enemies close in, secrets unravel, and the line between divine and damned blurs.
Drak remembers more than she does, because the gods don’t want them to know.
But love never truly forgets.
As they race against gods, enemies, and time itself, they must choose what matters most. Danger is everywhere, the stakes are higher than they imagined, and the love they thought lost may be the only thing worth saving.
Slow-burn romance, morally gray heroes, forbidden devotion, and high-stakes tension.
Fans of dark romantasy with epic danger, forbidden love, and emotionally charged stakes will feel at home in The Bloodrune Saga. This is the second book.
'This was the first time he'd called me something other than his wife or killer. Skald. Even thinking of this nickname on his lips did odd things to my pulse.'
We had already established the world in which Lux lives in from book 1 but it expands on that when we take a proper look at how Drak lives such as the throne room scenes and him running things, more importantly we get a heap of his POV's which I absolutely dived into.
The push and pull between Lux and Drak made me want to scream at them to just be together.
'Drak chuckled. "Aren't we the perfect pair? We both have a taste for blood." "Were the same," I whispered the words drak had once said to me.'
Lux vampire kill count getting bigger and bigger throughout this book too, immediately starting with her getting into action and taking some intruders down. Lux is badass, takes no sh*t. It helps that her blood is like acid to the vampires, and that she has a neat trick of compulsion.
Drak is a besotted vampire king who is obsessed with her, his two goals are to marry her and become a God by kllling a God. Then, Lux wouldn't have to m*rder him and they can live happily ever after.
'The darkness in me calls to the monster in him.'
Of course, it isn't that simple.
'He's tainted. A monster.'
Lux's sister, the real Silver, is a great villain.
I still don't trust Kayn.
There's some delectable twists, some history thrown in too. God's playing their roles, interfering, to my annoyance.
'"You're my huntress and my weapon. Get up and kill him now before I-" Odin's voice grew angrier.'
I thoroughly enjoyed this book as an ARC for Elsa Frey, and I can't wait to see what happens in the next instalment!
I liked this book more than the first book. The tug-of-war with Lux between the Gods and Drak was so good. In book one, I didn't know who to trust and this book shines Drak in a completely new light. Drak completely fell in this book and damn did I wish they would just tell each other how they were really feeling. However, the gods were completely playing interference. I did think it was strange that while her mom, Stacia and Kayn were all abducted it took her weeks before she finally relented and gave in to Drak's request. For being so worried about them that seems like an extremely long time to leave people that you love. Overall, I ate this book up. I can't wait to find out what happens in the final book. This book left off with so many possibilities!
This is the second book in the Bloodrune Saga and it did not disappoint. You get so much more between Lux and Drak and I just love the dynamic of their relationship and enjoyed watching the growth throughout this book. I also really liked how we got chapters from Drak’s POV and man the longing and desire he has for Lux, phew. The author keeps you immersed in the Viking world and there is a great nod to the show Vikings in here and that was just awesome to me. The story isn’t over and I’ll be waiting for what comes next.
I love this series and loved this sequel! I am going to keep this review short only because this is book two and I don’t want to spoil even a second of this series but if you loved Lux and Drax in book one you’re going to truly fall for them in this sequel!! If you’re looking for a forbidden, fake relationship that may not be so fake romance, filled with Norse mythology, characters you can’t help but love and a cliffhanger ending that’ll leave you wanting book three immediately then I highly recommend grabbing a copy of Wrath of the Ruined today!
I enjoyed Wrath of the Ruined more than book 1! The focus was more on the romance and I was here for it! Drak’s POV chapters were my favourite and that ending… when is book 3 coming??
Honestly this book was worse than the first. I liked that it was in multiple POV which saved it from being two star. But it was just all over the place. A lot of random stuff that I don’t think built the storyline and then same shit over and over. How many different times does Odin need to tell her to k!ll him on the same GD pages?? This ended in a cliffhanger and I have zero desire to read it. Even with the “emotional” event at about 90% and I didn’t shed a tear. And I’m like the biggest crybabies in books. I can read a book every other month (yes the same book cause I have an obsession with it) and I’ll still cry at the same parts and no one even “dies”.
