I really loved Smoke Screen, it was a departure from this author’s outstanding Sci-Fi adventures, but written with her usual strong but flawed and always interesting characters. This was a murder mystery, where Danica Burns, an FBI agent, is sent to help the sheriff in a small Colorado town investigate an unusual situation with the murder of a teenage girl. It is a copy-cat of a murder found in the same place years ago and the main suspect in the current murder is the victim's best friend. This is a prequel to the Danica Burns series which will be set in the Pacific Northwest. I’m excited to read more of her story, since her background is highly unusual, raised in a religious cult and abused until she finally escaped as a teen, she had never been to school or out in the world until she met the FBI agent that became her mentor and boss.

Strong character, with an interesting background, to build a series on.

Enjoyed this prequel. Well written.

This prequel does its job well - introduces some characters I want to read more about and sets the stage for bigger stories.

Great introduction to the series. I found Danica to be an engaging main character and I can't wait to read more!
