New York Times and USA Today best-selling author Cynthia Eden offers readers a new "Dark Obsession" romantic suspense tale...NEED ME.
Innocent…or guilty?
The cops think that Julianna Smith is a murderer. No one will listen when Julianna claims she’s innocent, and as the suspicions mount against her, only Julianna knows the truth…a killer is hunting her. Somewhere in the darkness, a stalker is closing in and preparing to deliver a final justice that she can’t escape.
He’s her only option.
Devlin Shade isn’t a man who trusts easily, and when Julianna Smith walks into VJS Protection, he’s well aware of her reputation—the sexy blond could be a cold-blooded murderer. Only when he looks at her, cold is the last thing that Devlin feels. There’s an instant attraction between them—hot, fierce, primal. And he agrees to take her case. He’ll be her bodyguard. He’ll keep her safe from the enemy hunting her, and he’ll also find out the truth about the mysterious Julianna. If she is a killer, he’ll turn her over to the cops himself.
She can’t let him get too close…
Julianna knows that she is walking a dangerous line with Devlin. She never expected to want him so much, and as they grow closer, she realizes that he’s working to uncover her secrets. But the secrets that she carries are worth killing for…and she can’t let anyone discover the truth, not even Devlin.
Killer or victim…
Soon the thin line between right and wrong is blurred. For Devlin, the case becomes personal, and all that matters is Julianna—keeping her safe and stopping the stalker who is on her trail. As he slides deeper into Julianna’s dangerous world, Devlin’s own darkness rises up. He’s played the good guy for so long, but now his mask is falling away. He isn’t controlled, he isn’t safe, and when Julianna is threatened, he will cross any line to keep her safe.

Need Me is the third book in the Dark Obsession series and this is Devlin and Julianna’s story, we met Julianna in Want Me.
Devlin Shade is the third partner at VJS Protection and he is intrigued with Julianna when he first meets her at Sophie’s office and when Julianna hires him as her bodyguard feelings begin to develop on both sides.
Julianna Smith is being accused of murdering her abusive husband, did she stab him thirteen times? Not even Julianna herself knows what happened on that night as she says she blacked out. Did she?
This is a great suspense story I was gripped, who is stalking Julianna? Who keeps trying to kill her over and over (give a woman a break). There are plenty of twists in the story and a few sexy moments between Devlin and Julianna.
Can't wait to read Ethan and Carly’s story, hope we don't have to wait too long

It was good. But perhaps I should have read the first two books in the series? Even though each book in the series is written as a standalone, I really felt like I was thrown straight into the deep end with this one. Or maybe it was just me. I felt like I was missing a key connection point between the main characters. They never quite clicked for me.
Overall, the book is well written and the 'who done it' of the murder/mystery really had me guessing ... And I guessed wrong. Lol
So good story line and nice mystery but weak relationship building ... Results in an okay read.

Need Me pretty much takes off, where book two (Want Me) in Cynthia Eden's Dark Obsession Series left off. The somewhat elusive Devlin Shade, steps out of the shadows to help presumed guilty murderess Julianna Smith. This series hit the ground running from the start, and this installment keeps it going at a steady sprint, right from the first chapter.
"I'm taking the damn case."
As you would expect, nothing in relation to Julies' case is cut and dried, did she/or didn't she. The woman is hiding more secrets than an MI5 operative, but Dev like his predecessors Chance and Lex, and co owners of VJS Protection, Inc, isn't afraid to ask the questions and look for the answers, by any means necessary.
Innocent people don't lie. They don't run.
The chemistry between the two of them is Eden-Sexy, and they don't waste anytime, burning up the stairs, sheets, etc!!
As with the previous books, you get a huge case of 'insta-everything' between this couple. I didn't care, this is Cynthia Eden, I love her writing, her characters and her story-lines, and Need Me lives up to every expectation I have of her as an author. She delivers, time after time, the books are always hard to put down, the characters complex, all a little different and I fall in love with every one of them to some degree.
"You do like your secrets, don't you."
This book has the best ending, as Cynthia confirms that Ethan will be getting his own book Beware of Me due later in 2015. If you have read this series from the beginning, you will know who he is, and will most likely be itching to get his story as much as I now am!
"Forgetting you won't be easy... No hope for that."

Another great book in this series. Julianna needed to remember when your lawyer says to be quiet to STOP TALKING. I think Devlin fell even faster than his two business partners. I had no clue who the bad guy was...none, and I loved that. We get to see all the old gang again. Now I need Ethan and Clary's HEA, plus Officer Faith needs one too.
Devlin Shade isn’t very trusting of people, but he knows how to read them. But when he meets Julianna Smith, a woman accused of murdering her wealthy husband, he can’t seem to put his finger on what it is about her. Guilty or innocent? Suddenly Devlin isn’t too interested in the answer to that question. So when she comes to JVS for help when she feels someone is after her, Devlin can’t resist taking the case and being the man that is going to protect her at all costs.
I was intrigued by the start of this story when these two interacted in the second book, Want Me and I was so happy that that the same interest held as I read Need Me. I think what I love most about the way Cynthia Eden writes these romantic suspense novels is that she throws so many suspects at you, you meet them all and each one seems to have enough motive but it isn’t until she’s ready to reveal the whole story that you get all the pieces.
I loved watching Devlin battle with his feelings for Julianna. He knew at times she was lying but he still just couldn’t walk away. I loved the pull these two had. I loved that he was ready to risk it all if he had to. For Julianna, I was intrigued by her secrets. What was behind her actions, who was she protecting? What was she not telling Devlin about? This book was riddled with doubts, but I loved that these two still took what they wanted.
And yay bonus! Through all these stories there’s been one constant character. One man that seems to be tangled up in it all. We’ve gotten pieces of his story throughout each book but it isn’t until now that we see him in a new light. Ethan has been one of those characters that intrigued me from the start and I am so happy to see that we’ll get a story for him as well!
9 days! It took me 9 loooong days to read this 100+ page novella... that's how boring this was... I got midly excited when I read about Ethan but the MC's was just...
They had no spark, no life... no nothing. I forced myself to finish this because I've been vested in this ongoing story since the beginning..
This is one of my favored authors but this stuff right here.. yeah its not good.
Will maybe.. maybe read the next one. Gotta be convinced though...

It goes without saying that Cynthia Eden is one of the best Romantic Suspense authors out there. She writes one brilliantly twisted story after another. Keeping a reader continually on the edge of their seat.. At times I wonder how she can constantly come up with a new premise and others.. well I just sit in awe.
Need Me is book three in her Dark Obsession Series. A series about three men who met in foster care and rose above their backgrounds. Who became amazing men with very interesting pasts and women who have fallen for them. A friendship that has lasted a lifetime and now they are in business together. The business of security and protection in DC. There is always something that needs to be secured or protected there.
Need Me tells the story of Devlin Shade, the most cynical of the three friends. His past is probably the darkest and yet he is also the most brilliant of the three. The combination guarantees a cynical man who is loyal to his friends, his "brothers" and that's about it. But when sexy accused murderess Julianna Smith comes asking for help, Devlin is immediately caught. I am talking Deer in the Headlights kind of caught.
Julianna Smith woke up next to her dead husband, knife in hand and covered in blood and having no memory of what happened. All she wants now is to well figure out who actually killed her sleazebag of a husband and to get the media and press to leave her alone. Oh and to protect the secrets she does have. She went to VJS protection on the advice of her lawyer, Sophie (Want Me), The last thing she expected was this deadly man who is caught between wanting her and distrusting her..
Bombs are exploding, people are getting shot at, break ins and the media.. there is so much going on around Julianna but her secrets could keep things from getting better. Who can she trust and better yet who should she trust?
Another really well written book by Ms. Eden. I admit, I go into these books knowing that the killer will always be the unexpected. I work really hard trying to figure them out. To predict the killer.. it's fun. I am not doing all that well at it either. These books could be predictable and the dreaded formulatic but Ms. Eden keeps them fresh and daring. Her villains walk in plain site, a wonderful treat.
I will say of the three books in this series, I found this one to be the weak link. It wasn't as strong as the first two. But I also feel that Cynthia, being at the top of her game, writes a powerful book even when it is the weak link!
This book can easily be read as a stand alone but you know how I feel about that!

I read and loved 'Want Me' and the characters from 'Need Me' intrigued me, I liked Devlin and I wanted to know exactly what was going on with Julianna, so I was quite excited when I started this book and there is a lot here that's good, really good. The story again is interesting and keeps you guessing, ok not as much as the previous one but still it's a good entertaining read. Julianna Smith is as far as most people are concerned a murdered, she killed her husband for his money but if there true then why is someone trying to kill her. On the advice of her lawyer Sophie Sarantos she hires VJS Protection and just in time as it turns out. Like I said I liked Devlin and the story, so why only 3 stars...Julianna annoyed the s**t out of me, I mean seriously talk about running head first into danger, did she really have a death wish. I know, I know, she's been through so much and struggles to trust but I don't know if it's just that I'm getting older or that I'm reading more but I'm losing all patience for stupid females, the first couple of times I put it down to her past but I have to ask are women really that stupid? I know of someone was trying to kill me I wouldn't be wandering around on my own. So as you've gathered this spoilt the book for me, I've checked the reviews and they're all good, really good so it would appear that it's just me, so if Julianna doesn't annoy you like she did me then this will be a really good book so enjoy.
**My thanks to NetGalley and Hocus Pocus Publishing Inc, for providing me with a free copy for an honest review**
Book three in this series carries on exactly where book two finishes and continues to dive right into the action where VJS are hired and somehow the characters link up to know other characters.
Julianna is a victim who is being targeted by a stalker an is also being investigated for the murder of her late husband. But the case had previously been against the prosecutor now now to have fabricated or lost evidence and so her case is up in the air.
Devlin is the only remaining VJS member that has not fallen for one on his clients, however like the other two he falls, and falls hard. He see's when he needs to be soft and hold back as Julianna struggles with her past, but he also shows her enough emotions and deeds to say that he is a man to be trusted and that he would do anything for her.
Julianna is a wounded woman who has come out of a marriage of entrapment. Once she said 'I do' her life went to hell, and even though her husband is now dead, it appears that someone wants her dead too.
It doesn't take long to realise that Devlin has her best interests at heart, and she too falls hard for him and stands up for those she loves when she needs to.
A really good read and the perfect ending to the series.
The third book in the Dark Obsession series by Cynthia Eden. Julianna Smith walked into VJS Protection at the end of the second book and that is where this book begins. Julianna (Julie) wants to hire a bodyguard and Devlin Shade is the man available. Julie is accused of killing her husband but she doesn't remember. She was found next to his body with the weapon. Sounds pretty cut and dry. But there are lots of secrets that need to be revealed to get to the truth.
Lots of neat twists and turns that kept me reading! I am looking forward to more!
Julianna definitely "needed" Devlin. His protection kept her alive. Though I sense the attraction between them, I don't know that the situation doesn't play a major part in their love. If they were in a different circumstance, would their love hold water? I'm not convinced. There's plenty of action and loving to be had, but unfortunately, this one didn't really click for me.

An Advanced Reader Copy (ARC) of this book was received free via Netgalley for an honest review.
Woah nelly! Need Me is easily the most convoluted of the series so far. Julianna is up on murder charges and gotta say, it's not looking good because everything points back to her, including some pretty good motives. So when Devlin takes her on as a client (for Sophie from Want Me), it's a tough sell. Julianna looks for all the world like a black widow.
But Devlin, like his VJS mates before him, is hit with insta-lust and just can't shake his desire for Julianna. No series character arcs here, just a wild, wild, wild ride. The more Julianna tries to fight the charges, the deeper into the web she falls and Faith (who I seriously want a book for now, darn sharp cop) struggles to unravel it all. When Ethan comes into play (at last!), it only gets uglier (of course!) because that's par for the course with Ethan. And when Julianna's sister Carly enters the fray, well, suddenly all bets are off.
When the big bad is formally unmasked, I had already had them pegged for a while. but I have to say the ending was somewhat ruined for me by the motivations of said big bad. Talk about a let down!
That said, Need Me is extremely similar to the other books in the Dark Obsession series so if you like them, you won't be disappointed with this one. Only one more left and that is (finally!) Ethan's book.
I received an ARC of this book from the Publisher, via Netgalley, in exchange for an honest review.
This is the third book in Eden's Dark Obsession series, and I have previously read and reviewed Watch Me and Want Me. We got to see Julianna and Devlin's first interactions at the end of Want Me, and it was fairly explosive. I was super excited to get the next book, and Cynthia Eden didn't let me down. The one thing that truly had me concerned while reading it was that we would not be getting Ethan's book. I get to the end and even through the excerpt for her next new series, a little disappointed and feeling let down. So let me reassure you, so you don't have to feel that way as I did. Ethan (the antagonist/anti-hero from the previous books) IS getting his own book, Beware of Me, and it should be releasing Spring/Summer 2015.
So let's get down to the nitty gritty. Julianna is accused of murdering her husband, and all the evidence seems to point right toward her, but she maintains her innocence. She hires Devlin and V.S.J. to protect her and find out the truth of who is really after her. Devlin is yet another action character (and yes, I still think of all these men as Bruce Willis, which is I am sure NOT the author's intent, your mileage may vary, but these are action heroes more so than romance heroes). He just enough tragic back story and emotion to tip him out of alpha-hole caricature status, but really, it's all about the action, mystery, and smexy times. This story was particularly twisty, and while the twists weren't over the top ridiculous, they did really keep me engaged in the story.
3.5 stars from me. It requires a lot of willful suspension of disbelief as they are instantly attracted, the relationship spans a very short time, and by the end they are in love and completely devoted. This is par for the course for Eden's shorter romantic suspense, but they are just too fun and exciting to give up. I adore her books. This is my drug of choice and I can't wait for my next hit!
This is the third instalment of the Dark Obsession series featuring three friends running their own protection agency. This time it's the turn of Devlin to come forward and show his mettle. In the previous book Want Me he met Julianna who is on bail awaiting trial for murdering her husband and from the moment he first set eyes on her just something about her set off all kinds of warning bells. Julianna pleads her innocence but as she was found covered in her late husbands blood it's hard to be sure just what to think. One thing is certain though someone is threatening Julianna and she needs the unique protection that the VJS agency offers. Devlin will do all he can to protect Julianna but as he gets closer he starts to realise that she has many secrets and they just mght get her killed! All of the books in this series have shown that obsession can be a dark and dangerous thing but this time I thought the author hit a completely different angle . The most obsessed and indeed the most possessive appears to be the dead husband and it's all the grey areas around his mysterious death that the author exposes. A dramatic story rife with suspense and more than one red herring to fool the reader. A tale of obsession, greed and jealousy but as it's Ms Eden at the helm a passionate story that if I'm honest was maybe a bit too instant lust for me. Tense and quite violent at times but it's been an interesting addition to the series. My only gripe was the heroine Julianna , she knows she is being stalked and yet seems to merrily take chances . That being said I did enjoy reading this book and can't wait to finally read Ethan's book when it's released . I was gifted a copy of this by the publisher in exchange for an honest review
Julianne accused of murdering her husband. But she remembers nothing of that night or what happened. The evidence against her is strong and the deck is stacked against her. She also has someone trying to kill her and that is how she hires Devlin from VJS protection. He's not sure if she's innocent and senses she's hiding something.
This is a page turner filled with suspense, mystery, surprises and romance. I found I liked all the characters and their layers but at times found Julianne somewhat irritating with her actions.
Very well written suspense/romance. Great pacing and nice surprises. Liked the romance between Julianne and Devlin. They fight their attraction but in the end it's too strong for them and they give in. Their passion is hot and intense. A all around good read.
I enjoyed this 3rd book in the Dark Obsession Series. It featured Julianna, who is the primary suspect in her husband's murder, and Devlin, part of VJS Protection. Julianna knows she's being stalked by her husband's killer and she asks Devlin to be her bodyguard. The attraction between them flares up quickly and they are soon involved. It is clear that Julianna is in serious danger, and Devlin is determined to protect her and figure out who is behind the murder and stalking.
This one had good characters and a very interesting storyline.
NEED ME is the third installment in Cynthia Eden’s adult, contemporary Dark Obsession romance suspense series focusing on three friends who run VJS Protection. This is tech expert Devlin Shade and Julianna Smith’s storyline. NEED ME can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty.
Told from third person point of view the focus of the storyline is protecting Julianna Smith. She is the prime suspect in her husband’s murder; all clues point towards Julianna’s guilt; but Julianna remembers nothing about the night her husband died. With numerous threats and attempts on her life, Julianna is in need of a bodyguard and protection. Enter Devlin Shade, the ‘S’ in VJS Protection and the man who isn’t so sure Julianna is free of guilt.
The relationship between Julianna and Devlin begins when Devlin names himself Julianna’s protector. VJS Protection was recommended to Julianna for their high end protection and anonymity, as well their ability to get the job done but the more Devlin begins to dig into Julianna’s story, the more holes and lies continue to emerge. If Julianna didn’t kill her husband, why are there so many people trying to end her life? Julianna and Devlin’s attraction to one another is immediate and intense; a case of insta love/insta lust that does not go unnoticed by the people in charge. The $ex scenes are impulsive, hot and steamy.
Julianna is a woman possessed to prove her innocence but is she truly innocent of the crime she has been accused of committing? At every opportunity Julianna refuses to expose the people she loves to possibility of danger but in doing so, she lies by omission and bending the truth; and runs at every opportunity placing herself and Devlin in danger. Devlin is unable to put his complete trust in the woman he has been hired to protect with his life. Some of Julianna’s actions are difficult to accept and understand.
The secondary characters include a brief appearance by Devlin’s business partners Chance and Lex, as well as Detective Faith Chestang and Ethan Barclay-all of whom we met in the previous storylines and installments. WE are also introduced to Julianna’s sister Carly-a woman both Ethan and Julianna are trying desperately to protect; and of course the requisite evil-who may or may not be someone Julianna knows.
NEED ME is a quick read; a fast paced and suspense filled storyline with twists, turns, and accusations all directed at destroying Julianna’s life. Cynthia Eden builds the storyline momentum with action, tension and doubt proving that a true detective should never stop looking for every possible clue. There are moments of drama and suspense; passion and romance; anguish and the destructive nature of jealousy and greed. Cynthia Eden pulls you into a roller coaster of ..did she or didn’t she?
No one will listen and there is a stalker closing in so Julianna's only option is Devlin Shade but she can never let anyone discover the whole truth not even Devlin in this thrilling romantic suspense.
Devlin isn't the trusting sort, but something about Juliana demands his protection and the reader can't help but get caught up in the smoldering passion that flows from the pages as Devlin tries to learn Julianna's secrets and keep her alive. The attraction between them is clearly combustible and soon their desires are heading toward the hot and steamy despite all the reasons that a relationship between them would be impossible. The strong, demanding characters draw readers in and refuse to let go while the fast past and smooth flowing plot thrills readers with lots of suspense, action and romance.
Lots of edgy excitement and spine tingling tension builds throughout the story as someone plays a deadly game of stalking and murder and no one is safe but most especially Julianna. Past secrets and relationships are revealed which adds more spice to the story and unexpected twists and several possible suspects keeps everyone guessing. The well timed events ensure that there is never a dull moment ensuring that the readers can't put this story down and the well written scenes and details bring it all to life.
The stories can be read individually but the overall connections between all the characters of this series adds depth and an another layer of intrigue to the stories that really keeps things interesting. I was completely caught up in this story, of course since I really wanted to read Devlin's story that's not surprising and I have to say that seeing Devlin fall was quite fun especially after the hard time he gave everyone else.
This author takes yet another aspect of a obsession that can be pretty intense when twisted and then when not fed can be deadly. Also I got to see the last member of VJS Protection go down. Julianna is innocent but then isn't that what all murders say? But if she truly was a killer why would someone want to kill her? She also has been told to go to VJS where Devlin becomes her bodyguard. I would say he is the least trusting of them all and has the biggest armor around his heart. But her mystery is the what will be the twist of the key with her being the key that begins to unlock it. There is a event that will be up close to them both that will show him just how much she needs him while in time he will need her also. Good thing too because someone is not going away any time soon until Juilanna is dead. Nothing better to grabbing hold of a reader than fine intrigue with characters that you latch on because they are that interesting. Julianna also is full of spunk she has also survived living with a scum that thought only of her as a possession to own and control. When each piece is unraveled like a peeling of a banana you will find yourself flipping the pages to see who will actually be the killer. Boy also will Devlin get kinda the same speech he gave his "brothers" when they fell. It was a joy to see him go down with "the bigger they are the harder they fall" kind of way he does. All in all this is one fine series with each one being superb with this one being the icing on a very delicious cake. Received a copy for a honest review.
Need Me by Cynthia Eden Genres: Adult, Crime, Romance, Suspense 1.75 Stars (To be fair)
It was absolutely unspeakable 'TORTURE' reading this one.
🧀🧀🧀 So much cheese you could make the Tallest Mountain in the World out of it.
Errors, typos, incorrect words, names in the wrong place, sentence structure problems, jumpy flow and BORING!
On top of that, numerous TSTL moments. Mostly by the female MC, but also other characters.
Now, add to that, my biggest Pet Peeve of ALL Pet Peeves, REPETITION. 🔁 Repetitive thoughts by the female MC, Julianna.🔂 Repetitive thoughts by the male MC, Devlin.🔁 Repetitive dialogue throughout. 🔂
I'm just overjoyed my torture is over for this one. But, now I am worried about the next in the series. See, I bought the bundle. There are 4 books in the bundle and the best book so far was book #2. I wonder how long it will take to get the taste of this 'Swamp Drivel' out of my brain before I build up the nerve it will take to read book #4 and finish this omnibus. 😨
I don't know how Cynthia Eden does it but she knows the proper equation to get me on my knees begging for more!
I received this book as an ARC from Netgalley for my honest review. Honestly I loved it; I enjoyed the intensity, the romance, the suspense, the action! This book is the whole package.
Devlin Shade does not give his trust easily but when you gain his trust he is 100% ready to back you up. Julianna Smith is accused of committing a murder and she does not know where to turn but into Devlins arms for protection.
Julianna wants everyone to believe she didn't kill her husband but after waking up covered in blood and with the murder weapon no one believes her. Devlin knows that everything points to Julianna but he doesn't give up on proving her innocence. Julianna definitely needs Devlin and Devlin will realize he needs her in his arms and in his bed forever.
Great book! I cant wait for Ethan's story I have a feeling this series is about to get better and better!
A book by Cynthia Eden is a guaranteed good read with protective alpha males, strong heroines in danger, passion, love and a happily ever after. Need Me is no exception, it's another exciting, sexy installment in the Dark Obsession series.
In book three we see Devlin fall. Hard. Julianna is a complex heroine full of secrets and pain. She's been through hell, endured it for the love on someone else, but now she's in a new kind of pain. I didn't always agree with her actions but I understood that such a loyal and loving person would act the way she did.
Devlin is insanely attraction to Julianna but she's so secretive and with all her mixed signals ... he doesn't know if he's coming or going. He's exactly the guy she needs though, someone with his own dark side, who can accept and love her. I enjoyed watching their relationship evolved, I wanted both of them to find happiness.

Need Me picks right up where Want Me (Book #2) ended.
Devlin is part of VJS Protection and probably the quietest one of the guys. Devlin first meets Julianna in Want Me, but now she has come to VJS seeking protection. She is accused of killing her husband BUT someone is out to kill her and Devlin is automatically drawn to her and knows that she is his to protect. Neither Devlin nor Julianna trust each other in the beginning, but in the end all of the pieces fall in to place and lives are put in danger but you have got to read Need Me to see how it ends.
At one point Julianna fires Devlin and then something happens and Devlin’s response was “I’m taking the damn case” because he knew something just wasn’t adding up and he believed in Julianna.
Julianna is accused of murdering her husband, but she claims to be innocent. Hiring VJS for protection she´s paired with Devlin who soon takes a personal interest in the bodyguarding. The threats against Julianna gets more and more serious and soon Devlin is in danger as well. Who´s framing Julianna? Fast paced read, smutty fluff, suspense and action in a great combo. Disclaimer: I received a free copy of this book in return for an honest review.
Wow another fab read!! Really enjoyed this story, again had no clue who was behind the murders and stalking. At one point I thought I new, which would have been a first for me with these stories, but I was completely wrong! Which makes Cynthia Eden such a great author! I am now eagerly awaiting the release of Broken, especially after reading the excerpt at the end of this book.
Had me going in circles trying to figure out who the villain was I enjoyed every second of this .. the suspense was boiling and Dev was swoon worthy and I loved Julianna's character. The few Ethan scenes got me even more excited for his book so hopefully it delivers. I'm really loving the heroes in the dark obsessions books.
