Being summoned to random worlds by others is becoming a familiar event for Rico, and with each bizarre challenge the system throws at him, his strength grows.
Dungeons, deadly creatures, and powerful foes are commonplace in these other worlds, but what happens when they start showing up here on Earth? Rico gladly joins the other summoned beings to defend his world, but if he dies at home, there is no respawn waiting to bring him back.
Book 3 in this unique spin on isekai LitRPG, about a MC turned into a summon minion who has to complete tasks for random summoners, allowing for a variety of adventures, foes, and missions as he progresses in power each time... But is any of it random?
Ohhhh soooooooo fun! And again I'm reminded of how much You are Summoned is like a deck-building litRPG, only instead of drawing a soulless card minion, the summoner is just as likely to summon a person! Which is totally dependent on the person's class! Rico just happens to be a Foe Summoned... and to be Summoned is like walking into a job/trial blind. And they never know what's gonna happen it could be mundane like babysitting, torture, or fighting, really anything. Summoned get experience and summoning points, in other words strength, and currency. This book starts at the beginning of a summons 'xactly where it should! And as Rico powers up so does his own minions they come from magical figurines that are just constructs. Rico's life is busy, between summonings, dungeons to dive, and shopping... yeah I said shopping 😆! So grab the book and have fun! Because I adored it!
Here's a quote for yah:
“Maybe I can get you an upgrade to your crappy Buick, Julio,” I offered. “Hey, old Lulubelle is a great ride. Don’t insult her,” Julio joked."
I'm continuing to enjoy this series, despite the flaws.
My main issue is that it's very episodic. Each time Rico gets summoned, it's like a very short story. Some of them are interesting, and it's a little frustrating that they often end without any kind of resolution. It's common for Rico to "die" in these without knowing if he'd made a difference. Did the village survive the raiders? If the defenders lost, did the villagers they were trying to protect get away? We'll never know.
In a few cases, we do get callbacks to prior summonings. There's an ongoing subplot involving a demon, though it doesn't have any real results so far, despite a few interactions between Rico and the demon. Rico also learns that a prior summoning turned out well, though to be honest, that summoning is so far back I don't remember anything about it.
Rico's time between summonings is more engaging since it has continuity, but it's pretty light on plot. Some dungeons inexplicably appear on Earth, and Rico and some of his fellow Summoned Beings have to stomp them out, but that's about it.
Still going strong, a unique take on summoners and summoned entities
A well written and interesting story. It incorporates dungeon delving, summoning, intrigue, arcane gear and spell selection. There is also visiting a high level mystic city for shopping, intellegence gathering and testing ones medal in a fighting arena. I look forward to the next installment because of the pending summoning contract between the MC and a dungeon, where he will need to engage in conflict resolution with a high level mage that is taking advantage of the dungeon.
I wanted to like this series, but it’s very flat. The MC’s summons are very boring. Even when he’s given the option for a class upgrade he chooses the most uninteresting option. The character development is also very weak. The MC has no friends or family, no over arching goal, and very little meaningful interpersonal interactions. The missions themselves are completely random and the MC often gives up autonomy. The premise is interesting, but the execution leaves a lot to be desired.
A lot of funny stuff happens in this book that I think sets up a really good opportunity to explore more into the world of You Are Summoned. If you enjoyed the previous two books I think this one will scratch your itch like it did for me. Outside of a few minor spelling errors that could have been fixed through a light editing spree, I think that this really achieved the same level of quality I've come to expect from Dean Henegar. He's a great writer with a lot of talent and he managed to get someone who doesn't typically read LitRPG to enjoy it.
The book was good overall however, the author prostituted out the character of the mc. The only control, sanity, and sanctity a summoned being has is with their personal space. No. Nope. Never. Especially for the love of money. But the author wanted to add another character for plot purposes and so let us violate the very character of Rico so we can add some story lines. Oh yes the readers will enjoy that… not. Gotta go, I’m being summoned away to another book.
You Are Summoned book 3 does a really nice job of expanding the world more, explaining more concepts, and showing us what class evolutions look like. Very well done, and I'm looking forward to the next one. Really like the concept of renting the private space, that could lead to all kinds of interesting story lines.
Still loving this series! It's being written on Royalroad and I'm stuck waiting for more chapters, but I devour each one as they come out. I've tried to build up a backlog, but it seems almost impossible for me to do. This story just has me hooked. I hope that you enjoy this series as much as I do.
The premise of the first book caught my attention because I thought it was an amazing and new idea. I read it, and it was even better. The 2nd and 3rd books made it even more of a masterpiece. The new spin in this book was a nice touch and that emotional ending was riveting. I eagerly await book 4.
This is a great continuation of the You Are Summoned series! I love that we get to see Rico get more comfortable with both his summoned shenanigans but also integrating it into his normal life. Ngl tho, that last summoning gave me the sniffles 😢 I’m looking forward to the next book!
This is a great combination of the unique concept and a straightforward storyline. There isn't much as far as character growth but the MC has a solid likable personality to begin with and adapt quickly to a situation. This is not about an OP MC smashing everything but steady growth
Worth the initially very long wait for the Audibles so that I could continue to listen and read along! I love the narrator.
The series just keeps getting better and better, and I can't wait for the Audible for book 4 to drop so that I may continue. Dean Henegar is a very solid story teller.
So this book feels like a bridge between bigger things. Well written, good editing. If I had a suggestion it would be to find a love interest, because I like the depth that sharing experiences adds to stories. And Melvin the gelatinous cube is cute, he's not a girl.
Rico is back, and he is leveling quickly. Adventure across the multiverse and in his own backyard as the Earth lurches towards integration. Even with a few rough edges this series is a hoot. Looking forward to the next. Tom out
Book 3 continues to open the world as we file the adventures of Rico who you know if you’re reading book 3. The system gets more interesting, the minions get more interesting, and the overall story on earth continues to get better.
