A book addict from way back, I cut my teeth on fairy tales and C.S. Lewis, skipping class to hang out in the library. Later, I moved on to Tolkein and Twain. During graduate school, I only had time to read Anthropology books, so it wasn't until later I got hooked on Mysteries and Thrillers. Michael Conneally's Bosch, Sue Grafton's Kinsey Milhone, C.J. Box, J.A. Jance's Sheriff Brady, and Nevada Barr's Anna Pigeon. I don't know about you, but I burned through those books as fast as I could discover a new series. Still do!

But it wasn't until I had a serious back injury that I realized how important well-written stories were to me. I could get lost in a good book. They kept my mind off of things over which I had not control. And even though they were pure fiction, the ones with strong, female protagonists inspired me to overcome my own hurdles in life. I realized I not only enjoyed reading them, but I wanted to write books like that.

Somewhere during that time, the character of Logan McKenna began to take shape, eventually turning into my first book of the Logan series, SHATTERED. With 8 books and a novella prequel in the series so far, I am grateful readers have enjoyed getting to know Logan and friends and keep buying the books, allowing me to do what I love. I am rarely happier than when I am at my keyboard, headphones clamped on my head, listening to ocean waves crashing on rocks (my go-to white noise), allowing the story to flow out of my fingertips.

I also love to hear from readers. It may take a while due to my research and writing schedule, but I will answer!

My husband and I live in our dream forest cottage on the Oregon coast with our dog, Finn. We have six children and numerous grandchildren, grand dogs and a few grand cats. When I'm not at the computer, I'm usually out walking Finn or in the kitchen trying new recipes.

I can't believe that this is the eleventh book in the Logan McKenna Mystery series! Time certainly flies when you love a series as much as I do. I have been patiently waiting for this release.

Stone Cold is another engaging crime thriller in which Logan finds herself caught in a complicated web of intrigue. Logan is strong, determined, and always strives to seek justice for those who can't fight for themselves. Working with the Lincoln County Cold Case Unit, she faces a challenging investigation that becomes a race against time; she has just five days to uncover the killer before they claim their next victim. As Logan gets closer to the truth, she finds herself on the killer's radar.

Valerie excels at crafting twists and turns that lead you to think you know what’s coming, only to surprise you completely. This story is fast-paced and a real page-turner; I couldn't put the book down until I discovered how everything played out.

One of my anticipated releases this year, Stone Cold is Book 11 in the Logan McKenna Series, and this was a story that pulled me in right from the beginning. Logan McKenna is back and now she is helping out with cold cases in the area for the Lincoln County Cold case unit....when bones are discovered at a local construction site. Logan immediately is pulled into a world of trying to solve who these bones belong to with the guidance of a retired cop. Will Logan be able to solve the mystery....

I really enjoyed this story and loved the cold case aspect. The author did an excellent job on all the details and this story had so many pieces, and just when I though I had it figured out...I was surprised what truly happened! I highly recommend reading this series in order especially if you are a lover of mystery.

Logan McKenna accepts a job investigating a cold case when remains from a skeleton are discovered. The case becomes more difficult when it turns out to be tied to three missing women but which one? As Logan investigates she finds herself questioning everything and puts herself in the crosshairs of the killer. Will she figure it out before it is too late?

I wanted to read this one because of the description and it took place in the Pacific Northwest. I thought the writing was spot on with the descriptions and just little phrases often used in this area. Riveting story, will be picking up other books in the series.

Having read other books in the series I was rather excited to get onto this one and as per usual I was not disappointed 🫶🏼

During excavations for a new luxury home to be built in Siletz River a bones are found and a cold case is opened up , the bones could belong to 3 victims but dental records will identify which family will get closure ……

The bones belonged to a young girl that disappeared years back and her perpetrator was on free foot and without a body her family couldn’t get closure but all that is about to change as the hunt for the truth is on ….

Ben’s nephew Calvin took over his landscaping business . Calvin took a fall and now Ben is going to help him while he recovers so while he’s gone Logan is still composing music with her violin “Bella” but she’s also been invited by Vern , a retired homicide detective that investigates cold cases to help with an investigation ……

The dental records belonged to Brooke, a young girl that disappeared a few years back after her and friend had car troubles her boyfriend at the time was the main suspect but her family didn’t believe it and things well fizzled out really till the bones are found and identified

Time is of the essence and they only have 5 days to find evidence and the killer and bring him/ her to justice and a few discoveries are made along the way that ruffle feathers of a few men folk in town but as I said time is of the essence here and they finally get the answers they need when someone comes forward with vital information and this person did so knowing there could be repercussions but after the guilt carries all these trailers he’s doing the right thing and very nearly paid with his life !

When the truth comes out I wasn’t really surprised because the guilty party was really not a nice person although pretended to be and those are the wicked people in life those who give forth what they are not 😡

It was good to catch u with Ben , Logan and their dogs and Logan is a smart lady and she’s not fearful of anything and the way the investigation unfolded was paced and written in such a way that a played off well in minds eye 😉

I’d recommend not only this book but the entire series 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Stone Cold is Book Number Eleven in the Logan McKenna Mystery Series. It is a gripping cold case thriller with Logan McKenna racing against time to identify a long-buried victim and stop a killer. This novel builds the tension of a cold case investigation with the emotional depth of a protagonist I have grown to love. Set against the atmospheric backdrop of the Pacific Northwest, the novel delivers suspense, heart, and a race against time.

When skeletal remains are unearthed near the Siletz River, Logan McKenna joins the Lincoln County Cold Case Unit to identify the victim. Three missing women fit the profile, and the case quickly escalates into an active homicide investigation. With only five days before the case risks being shelved again, Logan must untangle decades-old secrets while facing the wrath of a killer determined to silence her.

Logan McKenna is a character that I have grown to love in previous books in this series. She is determined and brave and refuses to let cases slip back into obscurity, even when danger looms. Logan also proves to be empathetic and invests emotionally in victims and their families, making her pursuit of justice deeply personal. Her balance between personal challenges (husband away, ongoing music career) with professional risks shows her resilience. Logan’s imperfections and vulnerabilities make her a grounded, human sleuth rather than an untouchable hero. Stone Cold is a fast-paced, emotionally charged thriller that kept me guessing with twists and red herrings. Logan McKenna shines as a protagonist who is both fierce and relatable, making her journey compelling across the series. Fans of crime fiction with strong female leads will find this installment a satisfying blend of suspense, character depth, and thematic resonance.

Stone Cold is the eleventh book in the Logan McKenna Mystery series by Valerie Davisson. It is another solid, engaging crime thriller that pulls you right into the heart of the Pacific Northwest. The story follows Logan McKenna, a smart and determined sleuth, as she joins the Lincoln County Cold Case Unit and tackles a chilling mystery filled with secrets, danger, and unexpected twists.
As expected from Ms. Davisson, the mystery was intriguing, and the pacing was spot-on, keeping me hooked without feeling like the story was being rushed. Having read the entire series, so far, Logan drew me into her world from the beginning, bringing interesting and suspenseful mysteries with each new instalment. She is a relatable and likable character – a strong woman who is sharp, brave, and has a lot of heart - which makes following her journey/adventures all the more enjoyable. The plot is packed with suspense, and just when I think I’ve figured it out, Ms. Davisson throws in another curveball.
So, if you’re into crime thrillers with strong female leads, this is definitely worth checking out. It’s a great mix of suspense, emotion, and a touch of grit that’ll keep you turning the pages.
The series contains:
-Bella: An Appalachian Love Story (Book #0)
-Jagged Dawn (Book #0.5)
-Shattered (Book #1)
-Forrest Park (Book #2)
-Devil’s Claw (Book #3)
-Vanishing Day (Book #4)
-Safe Harbor (Book #5)
-Lies That Bind (Book #6)
-Whisper Creek (Book #7)
-In Plain Sight (Book #8)
-Lost and Found (Book #9)
-Look Again (Book #10)
-Stone Cold (Book #11)
Wonder what Logan will get up to next?
Happy Reading…

Logan is on another case again, this time she is helping the Lincoln County Cold case Unit as they investigate some bones which have been discovered on a construction site. As Logan looks through the missing people cases she identifies three missing woman who may fit the profile of the abandoned remains.

As her boss upgrades the case and the Major Crimes Team is brought in, Logan decides not just to look for the one victim but wonders what happened to the other two women, where they also murder or just missing or something else had happened to them.

As the case continues Logan gets deeper into the mysteries which may put her in the cross hairs of a stone cold killer.

This is book 11 in this series and the more I consume the more I want to read. I love this character as she is not perfect by any means and this shows in some of the positions that she gets herself into. The book can be read as a stand alone story but I think you would get more out the story and the characters if you were involved from the beginning and understood the character behind Logan.

The suspense in this story has you just hanging on and with the pace being just right this is a winning formula through out all of Valerie's books in this series. You also get to see a lot more in depth of character from Logan as some of her personal healing and experiences come forward.

I can't wait to read the next instalment in this great series.

This is a series that I have enjoyed reading from the first book. I enjoy this author’s ability to pull me into the character’s world with ease and keep me there to the end. Logan is back in another thriller and you don’t want to miss what she gets herself involved in this time. She is such a great character that I highly suggest reading the previous books in this series to get to know her and what she adds to her stories. Logan finds herself involved in a case where skeletal remains have been uncovered at a site. Three women have been identified as possibilities. The more Logan digs into these women the more she realizes that something happened to them. Will she uncover a long stone cold killer? Logan has been one of my favorite characters. She is strong, connectable and I enjoy her determination. I enjoyed the twists and turns that had me guessing who did it and kept me turning pages to the end. I also enjoyed watching the growth of this plot which made the story easy and entertaining. This is a hard to put down story that you don’t want to miss. I look forward to seeing what is next for this author. I highly recommend this story.

STONE COLD: A Gripping Pacific Northwest Female Sleuth Crime Thriller (Logan McKenna Mystery) by Valerie Davisson. This is one of my favorite thriller series, its the 11th installment and I eat these up every time I read a new one. I can't put it down until I am finished. This one is another story of Logan being asked to help the Lincoln County Cold case department. A construction worker has found a body and Logan has narrowed it down to 3 missing women that fit the description. Looking into each of these women's lives turns up all kinds of information and some of that info could cause Logan to be in danger. When the major crimes team is brought in Logan knows that they have a short amount of time to figure this out before its put back to bed as a cold case. The more she digs into these women the more danger Logan puts herself in. Logan is good at getting herself in messes as we all know. Will she figure out who the killer is before there is another victim? This is the 11th installment in the Logan McKenna Mystery series and I always recommend reading them in order to get a better feel for the characters and story lines. I hope this series never ends!

Another gripping murder mystery thriller in this exciting series featuring heroine sleuth Logan McKenna. Logan is working with the Lincoln County Cold Case Unit while husband Ben is away. When long-buried human skeletal remains are discovered at a construction site the team must identify the woman. With the case becoming an active homicide investigation the Major Crimes Team are brought in. They have five days to identify the victim out of the three possible missing women who fit the profile. Logan becomes more invested in the case the more she digs deeper into the women’s lives.

If navigating the world of law enforcement isn’t difficult enough for Logan, she then becomes the focus of the killers wrath as she uncovers the truth. Once again I was hooked throughout by a Logan McKenna mystery. The descriptive narrative brought the setting vividly to life, making me feel fully immersed in the story. As usual I felt invested in Logan’s investigation, and she remains a realistic, likeable and relatable character. The fast paced and action packed storyline along with the plot twists kept me reading late into the night, unable to put the book down!

I'm a fan of Logan McKenna and this series and Stone Cold is a great addition. Logan volunteers to work with a retired cop on a group of cold case murder files when a long-dead body is unearthed during construction of a new housing development. The skeleton is Brooke, a 16-year-old girl who went missing thirty years ago. This leads Logan and her cop mentor on a quest to find her killer, even while they still track threads of the other cold cases in the file. The investigation has a series of twists until Logan is sure they know who killed Brooke -- but proving it 30 years later isn't easy. The investigation is detailed and suspenseful, while maintaining the Logan McKenna charm and personality we love about this series. Readers will be glued to their books and guessing along with Logan as the mystery unfolds. It's a tight, satisfying story well worth any mystery fan's time. The writing is clean and engaging, which enhances the read. (I was a Beta reader for this book and received a final copy from the author. These thoughts are my own honest evaluation.)

This is the 11th book in the series but only the second book that I have read out of it. It really captures you quickly into the storyline. The first few chapters and you already know that there is a body that needs to be identified. The main character, Logan McKenna, definitely knows her way around law enforcement, whether directly, or indirectly from past experiences and just so happens to meet up with a retired detective at the dog park of all places who she chats with. After that talk, he offers her a volunteer job scanning cold case binders and everything takes off from there. One moment she is scanning binders, the next she is at the crime scene seeing the bones being removed at the construction site, to then figuring out that the profile has led them to three missing women’s files that they must follow to see if they match the remains. Once they start that process, will they find the killer from all those years ago, or will the killer try and stop them if they are still around and don’t want their secrets to be uncovered? This story is very gripping and is a page turner!

Stone Cold is the book equivalent of grabbing a latte, wrapping yourself in a cozy blanket, and then suddenly realizing the blanket is actually a trap door into a Pacific Northwest crime scene. Logan McKenna is back, sharper than ever, and honestly? I’d trust her to solve just about anything—my missing socks, my questionable life choices, and definitely the icy mystery at the heart of this story.

Book 11 proves this series is nowhere near running out of steam. The atmosphere is moody, the twists are juicy, and the pacing is so good it should probably come with a warning label: “Do not start late at night unless you enjoy accidentally pulling an all-nighter.” The Pacific Northwest vibes are strong enough to make you crave rain, strong coffee, and maybe a dog named after a weather pattern.

If you love smart female sleuths, witty writing, and mysteries that keep one eyebrow permanently raised, Stone Cold is a delightfully suspenseful ride. Highly recommend for anyone who likes their crime thrillers with a side of personality.

When bones are discovered at a construction site, Logan is brought in to assist the Lincoln County Cold Case Department in identifying the remains. When Logan has it narrowed down to three missing women, Logan is determined to find out what happened to all three of them. However, when the Major Crimes Team is brought in, Logan knows that her time is limited before this becomes another unsolved cold case. But what she finds as she starts looking into these women could put Logan in danger. Will she be able to find the killer before she becomes a victim herself?

This was a story that kept me turning the pages. The PNW setting made me want to just curl up with a good cup of coffee! This is the first book I have read in this series...and I could see myself picking up the others if they keep me on the edge of my seat as this one did. I enjoyed the mystery and the wittiness of the writing.

This is the 11th book in the Logan McKenna mystery series. If you are looking for a crime thriller that pulls you in and doesn't let go then this series is for you. Even though this is the 11th book then can be read as standalones as each one deals with a different case the thing that doesn't change is our slueth and how she always seems to put herself in danger.

Logan is now working with the Lincoln County Cold Case unit and her next investigation leaves her in a race against time before the killer strikes again. Can she solve the case and bring the murderer to justice before they strike again? And by placing herself in the killers sight and in danger will she survive long enough to solve it?

I have loved Logan's character from the first book. She is very strong, determined and resilient and will stop at nothing to solve a case no matter the danger she faces. This is yet another amazing read that kept me gripped from beginning to end

Logan has been invited to work with the Lincoln County Cole Case unit. Skeletal remains have been found on a construction site and at least three missing women fit the description. As the case becomes an active investigation, the team has a very limited budget and only five days to find who committed the crime before the case goes cold. As we very well know Logan to do she does a deep dive into the lives of the three potential victims. Which one of them is the deceased? How long as she been there? Where are the other two potential victims and are they still alive? As Logan gets closer to the truth her life too is potentially in danger. The suspect wants to remain in the shadows and Logan gets a little too close for comfort. Will she be able to ID the culprit before she becomes another cold case victim? I am sad to see this being the last book in the series, however it has been a good run. All of the books have been enjoyable and can each be read on their own.

Stone Cold by Valerie Davisson is part of the Logan McKeena Mystery series. This book finds our favorite amateur sleuth with a more straightforward approach to solving this mystery. Logan is asked to help out in the cold case department of Lincoln County and this is her first case working within (or at least on the periphery) of law enforcement. While Logan helps identify a body that was found, she finds herself right in the middle of a murder investigation. I liked this story because not only did Logan have a more direct line to the case and evidence by working in the cold case unit, she had to navigate the legal system and play inside the lines on this case. As always, Lorna keeps us guessing until the end with multiple suspects and all the plot twists and turns, this book doesn’t disappoint.

Stone Cold hooked me right away with the eerie discovery of long-buried remains and the sense that Logan is stepping into a case far more tangled than anyone expects. I loved seeing her work with the Cold Case Unit—there’s something fascinating about watching her piece together the lives of three missing women while the clock ticks. The limited budget and five-day deadline add a constant low-level tension, making the investigation feel urgent even though it's rooted in an old crime. I found myself completely drawn into the emotional weight Logan carries as she wonders not just who the victim is, but what happened to the other women who fit the same chilling profile. The deeper she digs, the more dangerous the case becomes, and the threat of a stone-cold killer still lurking adds a sharp edge to every chapter.

Logan McKenna is asked to volunteer on the cold case until by a retired homicide detective, as his assistant. She’s just started learning how to scan and put together the cold case binders and she and her boss are called to an active crime scene where remains have been found and they need to identify and get the cold case investigation going. Narrowed down to three cases that could be their victim, they get the major crime team involved and work to find the killer. Hopefully before he can kill again!
By the end of this book all three files she has pulled in the cold case files are solved. This was my first book by this author and this series, it wasn’t an issue as the book seemed to be a stand alone story. I plan to read more!

This series, and this author, is one that I will pick up and read without hesitation. I don’t read the descriptions, I just jump straight in and go along for the ride. As always with this series, I was pulled straight back into the characters. Logan is one of my favourite characters as well. I always become so invested in her, even after so many books.
The story is everything I have come to expect from this series as well. It was exciting, fast paced and full of twists and turns the whole way through. I found myself getting so caught up in the moment of the story that I didn’t bother trying to work out what was happening. I has happy to go along the journey the author intended. This is a brilliant book and another fantastic addition to the series.

As the 11th book in the “Logan McKenna” series, most readers are already familiar with Logan, but I think this book can also work well as a stand alone read.

Logan McKenna, working as a volunteer with the Lincoln County Cold Case Unit, is helping Detective Vern identify long-buried human remains unearthed at a construction site. There are three local possible victims – as Logan looks into their lives before their disappearances, she becomes invested in finding out what really happened to them.

The case becomes an active homicide investigation, but with only five days to find the killer, Logan & Vern must risk everything to bring a long-hidden truth to light and bring justice for the victim.

It took a few chapters to really get into the story, but I appreciated the background information. This is not the first Logan McKenna book and I haven’t read them all so I appreciated the bits from the previous ones that are introduced.
Logan is volunteering to go through cold cases, which though emotionally difficult is a dream. While Ben is away, she starts her job and is soon realizing just how many cold cases there are in her area.
The mystery kept me on my toes as the skeletal remains were found and they went through the steps to decider which of their missing persons files were related to the body. The steps to find who killed the missing girl were frustrating and ironic.
This story kept me interested. I look forward to reading more in this series.

Stone Cold is the 11th book in the Logan McKenna Mystery Series. This book focuses on cold cases, as Logan volunteers to help with the local cold case unit. Human remains discovered on a building site bring hope of solving a cold case, but digging into potential matches leaves Logan with even more questions.

You don’t have to have read all of the other Logan McKenna books to enjoy this one, as they work fine as standalone stories. I was particularly fascinated by the procedures around solving cold cases that we learn about in Stone Cold! As Logan is new to this work, she asks plenty of questions which help us understand what’s happening.

Stone Cold gets five stars from me! I’d recommend it to mystery fans who are interested in stories about cold cases.

This is book 11 from the Logan McKenna series. Logan volunteers to help in the Cold Case Department by scanning documents. During this process, they (Logan and Vern) receive a call that human remains have been found. So they go the scene to see what exactly was found. I will say that the human remains happens to be one of the missing/cold cases that they had been working on. I honestly couldn’t put this book down. I literally read it in one day and can’t imagine what it is next. This particular book is a different because Logan in part of the investigative team this time. I promise that you will love this book just like I have.

This is the first book I have read in the series and you would have never known. I like how the author gives you background information on the previous stories so it’s like you never missed a beat.

This book sucks you in right away with a bam in your face ordeal. Which I love and of course makes you hungry for more.

Logan is volunteering to go through cold cases, when a construction worker finds remains unearthed at a construction site. She is tasked to help figure out who the remains belong to. There are three local possible victims – as Logan looks into their lives before their disappearances, she becomes invested in finding out what really happened to them.

As a devoted fan of crime thrillers, I found "STONE COLD" by Valerie Davisson to be an excellent thriller read. Logan McKenna is the kind of protagonist that grips you from the start—intelligent, resourceful, and fiercely determined. I love how the Pacific Northwest setting adds an atmospheric layer that resonates with the story's dark, suspenseful undertones. The plot is tightly woven with unexpected twists that kept me guessing until the very end. Davisson masterfully balances character development with fast-paced action, making it nearly impossible to put down. If you love crime fiction with a strong female lead and a gripping mystery, this book is a must-read.

Stone Cold by Valerie Davisson
5 Star Review
When Logan McKenna is left alone while her husband is away, she finds herself in the middle of yet another murder mystery. This time she is part of a discovery of three skeletal remains. These cold cases are not heavily funded, so they have five days to find the killer before they strike again.
The character of Logan is very human and her character gives the story a very real and personal feel. The writing is entrancing. She drags you in and gives you enough to keep you hooked. Then she throws in a surprise to give you that jump start feel.
I absolutely love her writing style! I am going to go back a read all of the previous books!

Stone Cold is a smart, fast-paced mystery that grabs your attention right from the start. It follows Logan McKenna, an artist with a knack for stumbling into danger, as she finds herself tangled in a murder investigation that hits a little too close to home. The coastal setting, believable characters, and sharp writing make the story feel real and engaging. Davisson blends suspense, heart, and a touch of humour perfectly — it’s the kind of mystery that keeps you guessing and totally entertained all the way through.

Another good story in this series! I like all the suspense and in here there is a lot. Logan gets involved in cold cases and helps find relief for a few families. I feel the story seems a but slow as there is a lot of other stuff going on with Logan that gets told. I was only interested in the cold cases not her pie or culinary skills. Hanging out with here friends is okay since they know information about the cases. We meet new characters in here to add to Logan’s ever growing friendship circle. Some of these books I love and others I dont. This one falls in the middle. Good plot!
