FBI: Magical Threats Division #3

Threat Level: Lightning

Rate this book
Billie Keller, head of the FBI’s Magical Threats Division, has a knack for finding trouble. This time, it’s electric.

Literally.

Alongside her bow-wielding pixie partner Onyx, Billie is chasing a new breed of danger—genetically modified superhumans wielding the raw force of nature. They’ve already gone toe-to-toe with fire. Now the storm is coming for them.

Izzy, their infomancer, is ready to take another crack at hacking the company behind the experiments. A fortune-teller, a potion maker, and a no-nonsense trainer are standing by with backup. And then there’s Dorian, Billie’s sharp-tongued, sentient blade.

But lightning strikes again.

To survive, the team will need every skill they’ve got—stealth, shooting, investigation, and plenty of snark from Onyx. Even then, taking down an enemy with the power of a thunderstorm in their fists may be more than anyone can handle.

Good thing impossible missions are exactly what the MTD was made for.

Threat Lightning is packed with magic, martial arts, humor, and nonstop action. Scroll up, grab your copy, and join the fight!

Un-Freakin’- Believable!!!!

It continues to amaze me, just how awesome Tommy’s writing can be and yet how humble he seems in his Aithor’s Notes. This series is undoubtedly his best yet. That should come as no surprise, however, as he seems to have borrowed a concept from corporate America and made it his own… that oh so not beloved artifact known as the continuous improvement cycle.

Unlike the corporate world where that concept has become synonymous with pointless and often arbitrary metrics that bear little resemblance to the actual work being dive on a day to day basis, whether consciously or merely by effort, Cameron has truly embodied what the words actually mean, and it shows with every word that he writes.

He’s also started to do something in this series that I’ve quietly felt needed to happen all along. He’s started to unify and amalgamate the various technologies he has created across his many series and our current team is reaping some of those rewards. We saw this starts in the last book when the main characters from his last series showed up, and in this one we get hints of Kaylie’s technology from the FAM. He has done so MANY cool things with the concepts Michael and Martha used for Oriceran’s foundation, I’m incredibly happy to see some of that begin to percolate forward.

My one hope? That he somehow manages to integrate Mike and Martha’s pixies who are enlisted in the army into this storyline. Given how long lived Pixies are, although they enlisted just as the world was learning about Oriceran, I’m sure they are still around and raising Hell. To include them, even in passing, in this series would be above and beyond hilarious and without a doubt incredibly entertaining. Please let this be in the cards. Please….????

Enjoy!

A buildup to a bangup

A story is like a cloth with warp and weave if those are the correct knitting terms. If not, tough. I am writing this snarky review. This is the third installment. Elvis was in the room. Evil man was in the room. Friends were in the room. Team was truly in danger. Wrap this around your reading body and wait at least another 50 days to see a hangup showdown. Sparks of lightning were flying here. Waiting to see who puts the hammer down.

Glad I had 23 days of Jewish holiday distraction with real life family drama to be able to be with Oriceran magic to even out war, illness, hurricane damage and just getting older. In my youth, I was able to afford the kid's meals. Morbidly obese, sick me is happy to be able to once again have kid's meals with French fries once a week. These are my treats for being adult in real life as limited to what I am able to do in my chosen profession. I love the challenge. I love the escape. I love being part of what Martha called a found family with concert artists, kid's favorites, author's ills and the sharing of fantastical crafted stories.

Battle

Billie and her team are starting to figure out some of the bad guy's plans, they have a man undercover in the company and their infomancer is digging into his computers trying to find the dirt. She is also getting a bad feeling about her friend's new guy and is trying to figure out what about him is setting off her radar. I am really enjoying Billie's team and the way they interact with her friends, also the storyline is great and definitely keeps my interest to the end. I am looking forward to more is the series as it gets more intense and dangerous for the characters a it goes on.

Getting generic and formulaic

If you like things plotted out like they are on a rail line, you will be fine with this. Otherwise, it's not worth the bother. I'm disappointed, as this writing team is capable of much better work. This feels not even phoned in... maybe sent by text while doing something they were more interested in? Doubt I will read the next one.
