Busty Bodice Club #2

Curves for the Rakish Duke

Rate this book
Eight sisters. Eight curves of fate.
And one father’s final wish: live boldly, love recklessly, and never hide the curves of your lives—or your bodies.

Raised under the strict rules of an overprotective parent, the Harrington sisters were taught to stay quiet, proper, and out of trouble. But with their father’s last letters, everything changes. Each voluptuous beauty is handed a task designed to push her beyond society’s rigid corsets and into passion, scandal, and adventure.

From scandalous portraits and secret wagers…to daring rescues and forbidden kisses…the Busty Bodice Club isn’t just about finding love. It’s about embracing every lush curve, every wild desire, and every reckless chance at happiness.

Because when eight curvy women set out to rewrite their stories, the ton doesn’t stand a chance.

Her late father’s dying wish was for her to create a charity—an undertaking that demands every ounce of courage the painfully shy Lady Celeste Harrington possesses. Asking for help is no easy feat, even for so noble a cause as aiding soldiers left crippled by war. But when society’s most powerful matrons mock her efforts, Celeste resolves to do something she will enlist the notorious Duke of Salcomb, the Dragon of London himself, to champion her mission. With his support, the world will be forced to see Britain’s forgotten veterans. First, however, she must find a way to capture the Dragon’s attention—even if it means braving his lair.

Oliver Granier is restless. Life has become a tiresome parade of predictability—until a petite whirlwind of a woman dares to storm his home and beg for his support… for a charity, of all things. Intrigued, Oliver is captivated. Women have sought him out before, usually for a place in his bed. However, Lady Celeste is asking simply for his presence. Is it that she sees something in him no one else has ever glimpsed? And why does he find himself longing—not merely to help her cause, but to claim her as his own?

Thanks to the author and the team behind the Busty Bodice Club for the complimentary ARC of Curves for the Rakish Duke.

Lady Celeste Harrington, the second of the eight Harrington sisters, has received her task from her late father: she must start a charity related to something she deeply cares about, and then she'll receive her inheritance. Celeste knows that she wants to help the wounded soldiers who returned from the Napoleonic Wars only to receive no support from the British government, but she can't find a wealthy patron to support her cause. So she turns to Oliver Granier, the Duke of Salcomb, for help.
Oliver has been trying to rehabilitate his image from the "Dragon of London" into a more respectable peer of the realm, but his youthful indiscretions are getting in the way. When Lady Celeste proposes that he be the lead patron of her charity, Oliver sees it as the perfect way to remake himself as someone to be taken seriously in society and Parliament. But when Oliver dives into the operations of the charity, Celeste is cut out of the narrative and the day-to-day decisions—something she will not tolerate, even if the man doing it is sinfully attractive and helping her achieve her goals.

This was another delightful, quick installment in the Busty Bodice Club series. Curves for the Rakish Duke is just under 100 pages and full of delightful tension and drama. Cathy Maxwell did a great job setting up the characters and stakes within the first chapter, so we’re able to dive right in and get a fully formed story within the constraints of the format.

While in the last novella we got to see a lot of the Harrington sisters as a whole, in this installment we get to know Celeste’s twin better. Georgiana and Celeste are very close—they are twins, after all—and they share everything. I really enjoyed that aspect of the story, and it made me more excited to dive into her story next.

If you're looking for a fun, quick, steamy read, pick this one up. 4 stars.

This is a new author for me. I am reading her because she is the only author in this series that I haven't ever read so thought the series might flow better if I just read them all.

Good read; interesting story. I liked Oliver and Celeste. I liked that they were both so philanthropic. That made them a great couple. Very short read but overall good.

Cathy Maxwell’s instalment in the Busty Bodice Club proved to be a delightful story of finding one ‘s self. Both Oliver and Celeste are unsure of themselves and learn to truly be seen by each other. They gain the freedom of self-expression unencumbered by societal belief. Oliver longs to be respected but carries the cloud of a rakish past whereas Celeste learns she is more than she thought as her confidence grows. I loved their gentle courtship and the bond they found working alongside each other. They formed a true partnership and what better basis for love is there.

I recently finished reading Curves For The Rakish Duke by Cathy Maxwell. This romance novel is everything I was hoping for—quick and easy to read, yet completely captivating.

The characters are wonderfully written, each with charm and depth that made me root for them from the start. The plot flows beautifully, balancing humor, heart, and just the right amount of drama. And, of course, the happy ending left me smiling long after I closed the book.

Lady Celeste Harrington is the second eldest among eight sisters. She wants to fulfill her late father’s wish to create a charity that is dear to her. After her proposal is rejected by an influential matron, Celeste seeks assistance from a person unafraid of the woman’s power. She first needs to persuade The Dragon of London to support her cause. Will Oliver’s patronage make Celeste’s charity a success? Or will it hinder it?

Oliver Granier, the Duke of Salcomb, also known as The Dragon of London, seeks to show he is more than his reputation. When he responds to an anonymous summons, Oliver expects a romantic rendezvous. Instead, he is approached by a reserved wallflower requesting his support in her charity venture. Lady Celeste intrigues him. By helping Celeste with her charity, will new possibilities open for Oliver?

Celeste impressed me. She moved outside her comfort zone to fulfill her father’s last wish. I like how Celeste stood up to Oliver. She spoke her mind when she felt he took over her charity. Celeste did not stand by meekly and allowed him to get away with it. What I love the most about her is how she did not allow one rejection to dissuade her. Instead, Celeste found another way around the obstacle blocking her.

Oliver was a hit and miss with me. He did have some good qualities and some bad. What annoyed me is how Oliver took over Celeste’s charity once he got onboard. He should have included her in some of the decisions. What I adore the most about Oliver is how he never once took credit for the charity’s creation. He made certain the public knew the true mastermind behind the endeavor.

CURVES FOR THE RAKISH DUKE is the second book in the BUSTY BODICE CLUB series. Each of the eight stories are written by a different author featuring full-figured heroines (sisters). This installment is written by Cathy Maxwell. Novella in length, it did not take me long to finish. I am not new to this author. I have read a few of her books, so I am familiar with her writing style.

Georginia is the next Harrington to be featured. The author who will be writing her story is Tracy Sumner. I like how the stories go from the oldest to youngest.

I am absolutely loving the Busty Bodice Club series, a delightful collection from some of the most talented historical romance authors. Each story centers around the siblings of a noble family, all working to fulfill their late father’s final wish in order to claim their inheritance. Yet it’s clear he knew his children well—his plan is less about money and more about guiding them toward purpose… and perhaps even love.

Curves for the Rakish Duke by Cathy Maxwell is the second book in the series, and it completely swept me off my feet. Lady Celeste Harrington is painfully shy, but determined to honor her father’s mandate to start a charitable endeavor. Her attempts to join the respectable matrons of society, however, are met with rejection. Desperate to succeed, Celeste takes a bold step—she approaches the infamously rakish Duke of Salcomb himself, Oliver Granier.

Oliver’s life has grown into a tiresome routine of parties and predictable encounters—until Celeste bursts into his world. She doesn’t beg for his affection or a place in his bed, like so many others. Instead, she asks for his help in supporting her charity for disabled soldiers and their beloved pets. Intrigued and captivated, Oliver can’t help but be drawn to this petite whirlwind who sees something in him no one else ever has.

What follows is a touching and sizzling romance. Celeste challenges Oliver in ways he never expected. She refuses to be dazzled by his reputation or his looks, and in doing so, awakens his desire to be a better man—not just for society, but for her. Their chemistry leaps off the page from the moment they meet, making this novella a joy to read.

I adored Oliver—he’s a man of hidden depth who simply needed the right woman to bring it out. And shy, determined Celeste is that woman. Curves for the Rakish Duke is a beautifully heartwarming and steamy addition to the Busty Bodice Club series, and I can’t wait to dive into the next installment!

This is the second book in a new series about eight sisters and their fathers' last wishes for them. Each gets a letter he wrote specially to each of them with what he wants her to do. This time it was Celeste’s turn. He asked her to start a charity, how was she supposed to do that with no money and being a shy, wallflower too. She decides she needs help from someone the ton will follow. So, she sends an anonymous letter to the Duke of Salcomb, Oliver, who is also known as the Dragon of London. He was a rake in his youth, and his reputation is one of women and parties, no one takes him seriously. When Oliver received the letter, he was expecting another lady wanting a rendezvous to try to trick him into marriage, not the shy, petite wallflower asking him for help. He can’t help but be intrigued by her mission and idea and the passion she has when speaking about it. She wants to start a charity and a place for all the injured soldiers that are now homeless and their pets that help them. After almost getting caught, he thinks it over and sees this could be just what he needs to rebuild his reputation and get people to take him seriously. I love the interaction between Celeste and Oliver as he tries to take over her ideas and makes plans without telling her. She stands up for herself and puts him in his place! As they work together and get to know each other, both find the other hiding who they really are. There are secrets, misunderstandings along with a growing love and passion for each other. Be sure and grab a copy and see how a Dragon meets his match is the slip of a young lady. This was a fun read with lots of banter between our couple and what they plan to do. I received an ARC from the author and wish to thank her. This is my honest opinion and am freely giving it.

Dashing rogues don’t kiss plump spinsters... except, this one does.
One charity idea pitched ✔️
One reputation saved ✔️
And two lives turned upside down ✔️✔️

Celeste & Oliver
She’s the overlooked sister, a homebird, shy but with a spine of steel when it matters – and her father’s dying wish matters!
He’s a political wallflower benched because of his reputation, and her charity might just be his ticket to the big league.
Of course, domineering duke that he is, he immediately takes over. He invades her home, her breakfast and... her dreams. She hates his highhandedness, but his heart is in the right place, and she lives in a man’s world. No Dragon, no charity. But it’s her project, and if that means slaying the Dragon, she will! And slay she does!

FYI, Oli is not a jerk, he’s just being a duke. That is, until a nice verbal trashing puts him in his place. Go Cece! For her it’s taking back the reins. For him, it’s a revelation; a non-simpering, clever, capable woman – and one who kissed his socks off at that! Hubba hubba!
Not that she isn’t equally undone by their instant chemistry, she’s just realistic... it’s not like these feelings could go anywhere. Could they?

Of course they could! This is a romance, and thank the Lord for lousy chaperones!
It’s quick and lively and unexpectedly intimate for such a short story. It’s not love at first sight; they talk, butt heads, their relationship grows – and I loved it!
There are a couple of minor details I didn’t like, but since I’m not about to spoil your fun, I won’t list them. Just read the story, make up your own mind, and enjoy this delicious little romp!

Curves for the Rakish Duke by Cathy Maxwell
The Busty Bodice Club #

~ A woman steps out of her comfort zone to establish a charity she believes in and reaches out to a rake with influence to be her main patron triggering him to want more in his life and also…want her ~

What I liked:
* Lady Celeste Harrington: one of nine siblings, twin, prefers quiet country life to London, attracted to and just may fall for the rake she seeks as her charity’s patron
* Oliver Granier, Duke of Salcombe: infamous rake, tasked by others to change his ways, has been feeling the need to change, admires Celeste’s charity idea…and Celeste
* Watching Celeste and Oliver fall in love – their chemistry was strong, their communication open for the most part, and I could see them happy in the future together
* Bea: a good friend of Celeste’s with wisdom to share
* Georgiana: Celeste’s twin sister who will probably have a book of her own
* Muggins: the dog that Oliver didn’t know he needed
* Wondering if the Granier home will be blessed with dogs, cats, and a slew of children
* Thinking about and wondering what each of the sisters tasks will find them doing and who they will meet while working toward their goal
* The series that will star more than one author

What I didn’t like:
* Perhaps wanting to have more information about both of them and about Celeste’s family

Did I enjoy this novella? Yes
Would I read more by this author? Yes

Thank you to the author for the ARC – This is my honest review.

This is the second story in the Busty Bodice Club Series - this series follows the Harrington sisters in their quests to fulfil their father's last wishes for them

I loved this book, it was fantastic. I wish it had been 300 pages!

It's Lady Celeste's turn to fulfil her fathers last wishes and she must create a charity. She has the perfect one in mind but the tons matrons were of no help to her, they mocked her for her idea. She needs the help from someone who would never be ignored.
She knows just the person, the notorious Dragon of London - the Duke of Salcomb

She needs him to champion her cause but she also can't just walk up to his home and ask him for his support - so she sends him an anonymous letter to meet secretly at an event

Oliver isn't surprised to receive the request from a Lady, he is used to it.
He was just expecting some sort of rendezvous or marriage trap.

What he wasn't expecting was a young Lady proposing he help her by supporting her charity.
At first he laughs but then he is very intrigued by Celeste, her obvious courage, conviction for her cause, and of course her curves.

These two have immediate chemistry and the sparks fly between them from the minute they meet - like moths to a flame

Oliver really falls hard and fast for Celeste - he just can't stay away but it's not just physical attraction, he is drawn in by her. She makes him want more in life, to do more in life.

Celeste is no doubt attracted to Oliver but she stands her ground, she has control of her feelings -she won't allow the attraction to derail her mission. As she gets to know the real man, not the one he has let society believe he is, she has a hard time not falling for him

They really work together well, there is no angst between them, no drama. I loved the support they both had for one another and the proper communication for who they are, what they want, and the love they felt for one another.

This story is exactly what I look for in an HR. I loved the hero, the heroine, the side characters, and the no unnecessary drama.

I received an ARC. All opinions expressed are voluntary and honest.

Lady Celeste Harrington is determined to fulfill her father’s dying wish by creating a charity of her choosing, but when the Ton’s most powerful matron mocks her idea, she turns to the one man no one dares approach: the Duke of Salcombe, the Dragon of London. She isn’t after a tryst, a title, or a tumble; she wants help giving her charity the visibility it deserves.

Celeste sends a note, to meet her, to Oliver Granier at a ball, & he arrives expecting a marriage trap. Instead, he meets a woman with zero patience for nonsense & a fierce passion for her cause of helping disabled ex-soldiers & their loyal pets who are living on the streets......pets? Oliver laughs, but he’s intrigued. He’s so used to women wanting his title or his bed that this petite whirlwind with curves, conviction, & no fear of him knocks him completely off balance. Watching him try to figure out what just hit him is delightful.

Their chemistry crackles from the start. Celeste challenges him, refuses to be dazzled by his swagger, & Oliver falls so hard he practically leaves scorch marks on the page. This novella is pure comfort; no angst, no dragging drama - just a duke undone by a woman who never expected to catch his eye. Sometimes all it takes to tame a dragon is a determined woman with a mission. I voluntarily read & reviewed an Advanced Reader’s Copy of this book; all thoughts & opinions are my own.

This is my first time reading anything from this author and i will definitely be checking out more of her books now..

Celeste wants to honor her father's last dying wish by opening a charity but first she has to get a benefactor to do so and that benefactor just happens to be known as dragon of London because of the way he charms women and then breaks their hearts..

Oliver is looking for a way to get his reputation into better shape so he can get people to take him serious in parliament however he has no idea how to even begin until woman he is unlikely to ever consider attractive comes to him to help with being a benefactor for her charity..

However these two despite the rumors of him being heartless and careless.. Celeste starts seeing that he only lets people believe what they want to believe.. and Oliver sees that what he has always wanted is someone not just attractive on the outside but smart, funny, and outspoken.

These two bond over a very meaningful charity and with the help of a meddling sister, a chaperone, and an adorable dog.. they not only succeed in making the charity successful.. they find love with each other..

I can't wait to read the next book in this series!

I really enjoyed this second book in this series. I have enjoyed other Cathy Maxwell books and this one was just wonderful.
The curvy and petite Lady Celeste Harrington needs the help of a gentleman who is well known and influential and Oliver Granier, the handsome Duke of Salcombe also nicknamed The Dragon of London could just be that man.
Her father had given her a task to start a charity before she could claim her inheritance but as a woman she needed help with her vision to make a difference to injured soldiers who have fallen on hard times and their companions.
Oliver hears her proposal for the charity and on his way home decides he wants to be a better man and help her.
The two work together well and find their conversations come easily but Celeste has a strong personality that stands up to Oliver when needed and he finds that intriguing. Not many men will push back against him never mind a woman so she gains respect from him and he is very inspired by her intentions and inspiration for her cause.
This couple are the perfect match for each other, Oliver knows that being around Celeste has changed him and his attitudes but Celeste can’t believe a man like Oliver would be interested in a woman like her, her body is not what most men desire, she is shorter and curvier than fashion so when he tries to make her see what he does, she can’t see his attraction to her. Thankfully minor misunderstandings are solved.
There are lovely secondary characters including a four legged mischief maker. This was a great read, no angst and two wonderful main characters who decide to make a difference to society in a time when their cause wasn’t considered by those in power who could make the changes. This book has a real feel good factor that made me happy.

The eight titles of the new Busty Bodice Club series all highlight the world in which society ladies of this historical period lived. Namely that they are not wholly in control of their fate, no matter how much they might wish to be. After all, none of these eight sisters can inherit the funds they need to live the lives they want without fulfilling their father’s dying wishes for them. Even their brother, the new duke, cannot change the terms of the will.
Lady Celeste Harrington must be bold in “Curves for the Rakish Duke” if she wants to inherit. In this novella-length tale by Cathy Maxwell, Celeste has a burning desire to help injured men who have returned home from the war with few prospects.
To help the soldiers, and fulfill her father’s dying request, Celeste maneuvers to approach a duke whom she has never met, breaking all the rules of the polite society in which she lives.
I greatly enjoyed seeing Celeste fight so hard for what she believes in.
I also enjoyed Maxwell’s depiction of Oliver Granier, the Duke of Salcomb. Watching him realize that he should support Celeste’s cause was a beautiful scene. And when he realizes that the gentlemen’s way of conducting business hurts Celeste, I very much enjoyed his change of heart as well as his change of course.

I loved the instant connection between Oliver & Celeste, their chemistry sizzled. I loved how she stood up to him, which of course made him really notice her. A quick but lovely novella no angst just two people falling in love, she can’t believe he could be attracted to her but he falls hard & fast. Some small misunderstandings & a dog who worms his way into Oliver’s heart. I highly recommend this novella which made me smile.

(This one was absolutely *worlds* better than the first in the series; I honestly think that one just needed the 30+ extra pages that this one had to make it feel like a more complete story.)

Celeste and Oliver's story is a sweet one--a duke who wants to get past his rakish youth and be taken seriously and a lady who wants to start a charity for injured (and homeless) soldiers and their pets come together to fulfill both of their goals and fall in love in the process. Originally skeptical of the need for the charity (and twice and skeptical about the need to include pets at all) Oliver's mind on both fronts is changed by two very convenient, happy coincidences--no real complaints here, there was limited space for him to be convinced in a more drawn out fashion and it's hard to argue with the results. Their journey into romance was equally fast--again, it's a novella--but very sweet nonetheless. Overall, I really liked this one.

My only complaint is the major miscommunication in the last 15% or so--it's perfectly clear to the reader that Celeste is missing some vital information, and it's disappointing that she's so quick to think the worst of Oliver after he's been working so hard to prove himself a changed man. Everything is remedied in the end and the HEA is very sweet, though, so it was just a minor (but very strong at the time of reading it!) irritation.

Bring on George's story; I'm ready!

Lady Celeste Harrington is determined to complete the task her father left upon his death, to create a charity. Since she’s not having much luck with financial backing or support from society, she decides that Oliver Granier, Duke of Salcomb, is the one person that can help her complete her task. Oliver has been feeling restless and no one seems to take him seriously, because after all, he has a reputation in society that is hard to live down. When Celeste approaches him, in a totally unconventional way, he decides that her request is interesting, as is she. The way these two become involved in starting the charity and working together, changes them both - and then they’re on the way to finding love and fulfillment. I really enjoyed Celeste, who didn’t have a lot of self-esteem, she was the sister that didn’t always get a lot of attention, so she really had to push herself to accomplish her goal. It was fun watching the duke loosen up and allow himself to explore new things, such as helping others - and their pets. I thoroughly enjoyed this delightful story in the Busty Bodice Club series.

We have Cece aka Lady Celeste Harrington who has been tasked by her late father to form a charitable work! She has a heart for wounded veterans and their beloved pets!
The government has given them a mere pittance to live on! They are proud men who served their country and they definitely deserve better!
Cece approaches Oliver Granier, Duke of Salcombe with a note to meet in the library! She has her friend Dame Beatrice as a look out!
Oliver has been in many situations by women attempting to trap him! So he is wary and hides at first! He quickly realized that Cece is in earnest! They have a close call but the idea for the charity and the patrons take place!
Cece is frustrated because as a man Oliver is quickly seen as serious and not frivolous and the charity is taken as HIS idea!
But Oliver does more than extend the olive branch he sends the whole tree! His gesture is romantic as well as adding clarity to the whole endeavor!
Bravo there is some steam at the end but it is a very charming story that hits all the right buttons! Bravo
I received an ARC copy for my unbiased opinion!

Lady Celeste Harrington is the next in line to fulfill her father’s final wish or should I say task? To found a charity that is close to her heart. That is the easy part, but finding a patron who would work along side her and support the cause? That is the difficult task, she has been already laugh at and shown the door by the Queen of charity causes. Her only hope is the Duke of Salcomb, also known as the Dragon of London. If he would do it as it would also benefit his reputation. She with the help of her friend finally gets a chance to speak with the Duke. He is definitely surprised that what he thought of as another assignment was really an innocent looking to him to sponsor her cause.
Oliver has a change of heart and decides to go with Celeste charity and is so excited with helping wounded forgotten war veterans he basically took over the whole thing. That of course didn’t sit well with Celeste, even though his plans made perfect sense.
I enjoyed Oliver and Celeste story to their HEA. Was well written, so much story in so little pages. Perfect little getaway. Thank you to the author, Cathy Maxwell for allowing me to read this ARC. All opinions expressed are truly my own.

The Harrington sisters are at it again. This time it is Celeste who upends the Duke of Salcomb known as the Dragon of London himself. Thinking he is meeting someone for an assignation he is shocked to find an innocent miss who wants to start a charity for war Veterans to fulfill her father’s wishes.
Oliver has a difficult time wrapping his head around this turn of events and almost gets compromised by a nosy busy body resulting in a kiss that changes everything. Oliver fears she is expecting an offer of marriage but Celeste is nothing like Oliver has ever encountered before He is simply unable to forget her or the kiss they shared despite her lack of interest. He simply can not believe that she has no interest in him. Fate finally intervenes and the dragon is finally tamed in ways he never would have imagined. An entertaining tale of a bluestocking wallflower who is determined to complete the task her father left her on his deathbed. She must conquer the dragon of London to realize her cherished goal. An entertaining fast read.

That was a very sweet and romantic novella.

I really enjoyed how at first neither of the main characters liked each other very much. The progression from tentative appreciation, to friendship and admiration, and finally to love, felt very natural and fun to follow.

Celeste and Olivier had this unique, subdued chemistry that well matched the story's pacing. I loved how both of them were rather reserved, each in their own way, but felt comfortable enough around each other to allow themselves to be more open and vulnerable.

Despite what the title might suggest, Olivier wasn't really a rake, tho. Or at least very little of his behaviour showed that he was. But, I actually enjoyed his slightly awkward, yet very self assured attitude. Him just barging into the House of Kenbrooks, helping himself to the excellent beer and breakfast food, was very amusing.

Celeste, on the other hand, was formidable and proud, and I really enjoyed how strong she was, even when faced with a potential heartache.

What a wonderful, heartwarming, delightful novella! This was my first by Cathy Maxwell and I enjoyed both her easy-flowing style and the ample plot she was able to fit in a short read. Lady Celeste is attempting to start a charity benefitting veterans of war, but is struggling to find a benefactor to assist her. She imposes on Duke of Salcombe for his patronage. It turns out to be a fantastic opportunity for the rakish duke, who is looking to change his reputation, which - while perhaps is not undeserved - does not match the man he knows himself to be.

This novella has such a sweet and at the same time spicy slow burn, with plenty of heat when they finally get together. Oliver is a very protective and noble MMC and Celeste is a very practical and sweet FMC. They are a wonderful pairing together against a very engaging plot. A well-recommended easy read and I will most definitely be picking up more from Cathy Maxwell.

Thanks to the author for this review copy!

At the heart of this installment is Lady Celeste Harrington, a heroine who stands out for her quiet strength. Unlike the more traditionally daring leads, Celeste begins as painfully shy, yet her determination to fulfill her father’s wish—to create a charity supporting wounded soldiers—drives her into uncomfortable, even intimidating territory. Watching her step beyond her fears, especially in the face of ridicule from society’s elite, makes her journey deeply compelling and easy to root for.

Opposite her is Oliver Granier, the Duke of Salcomb, whose reputation as the “Dragon of London” hints at a hardened, untouchable figure. Yet, his dynamic with Celeste quickly reveals a more nuanced character. His intrigue with her sincerity—and the fact that she seeks not his power or status, but his support—creates a refreshing shift from typical romantic tropes. Their chemistry builds through contrast: her vulnerability against his intensity, her purpose against his restlessness.

What elevates this story is its balance between romance and meaningful stakes. The charity subplot grounds the narrative in something larger than personal desire, giving emotional weight to Celeste’s mission while allowing the romance to unfold naturally alongside it. The broader backdrop of the Harrington sisters’ journeys adds richness, hinting at a series filled with diverse personalities and stories yet to come.

Overall, this is a captivating blend of heartfelt romance, character growth, and a touch of rebellion against rigid social norms. Readers who enjoy historical romance with strong emotional arcs and layered characters will find this especially satisfying.

I read this book in Australia.. Have been a follower of Cathy Maxwell for many many years.. Was very happy to read Curves for the Rakish Duke... book 2 in the series.. Cathy shares her whit with us in this book.. and the characters don't know whats happening to them.. Celeste get so annoyed and feisty with Oliver with his underhanded taking over of her charity preparations.. then they grow attracted to each other... and are surprised how well they get along.. neither were thinking of marriage. Its a throughly delightful read.. with a touch of steam.. to liven up the book.. Very entertaining also .. Its so wonderful that each sister has a special something that their father wants them to do.. Each author seems to be in tune with each other to write a different story for each one.. In yet each one is different..
A must read..

While trying to fulfill her late fathers dying wish to create a charity for wounded soldiers Lady Celeste is mocked by society’s matrons. She schemes to get Duke of Salcomb, Oliver Grainer to help her. He is quite reluctant in the beginning as most women just want his bed, not his financial help. She finally convinces him and believes it will help change his boring life of predictability. Suddenly he’s in charge of the charity and she’s upset. It was her idea and he took over. She is not intimidated by him in the least and tells him it was her idea. The banter between the two was cute. Cece was strong willed. In the end they realize they are perfect for each other. I received an ARC from the author. All opinions are my own. I have so enjoyed the Cathy Maxwell books I have read.

This is the first book I’ve read in the multi-author novella series: now I’m looking forward to finding the first (this is the second) and reading the others as they come out. That said, there is such a rich story here that it truly doesn’t seem like a novella, nor does it need to be read as part of the series. It stands alone as a terrific read. It was a joy to watch the relationship between the main characters develop: sweet and shy sometimes, but ultimately bold and eye-opening for both of them. Celeste and Oliver’s romance has plenty of sizzle and chemistry, but also an underlying sweetness that makes the characters the kind of people you’d want to hang out with. I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advanced Reader's Copy of this book; all thoughts and opinions are my own.

I really loved this novella. I thought the writing was wonderful. I loved both of our characters. Celeste sees a need for people to support veterans but also she understands how important their animals are to them. She wants to create a space where they don't feel like they are in debt but can feel safe and secure not in poverty. Enter her patron of desire, Duke of Salcomb. He isn't very grumpy just doesn't want to be trapped in a marriage he doesn't want. He immediately meets someone that would benefit from her charity and he sets full stream ahead to help her achieve this. I loved that this was consistently acknowledge that this was HER charity. I also liked that the misunderstanding stems from her sleeping hard.... I have never felt so seen.

So Enjoyable!
A well-told historical romance featuring two very special main characters, Lady Celeste Harrington, our Busty Bodice young lady and the notorious Duke of Salcomb, the Dragon of London.
Neither are interested in marriage, but there was definitely a mutual attraction which neither was willing to initially admit to.
Their story revolves around the setting up of a charity (so that she can receive her inheritance) and concludes with a happy every after for the two of them. Whew!
This second story in the series was such a pleasure to read and I enjoyed every moment so I am happy to leave this, my voluntary review, having read an early copy of the book.

Second book in a series of sisters who receive a posthumous letter from their father encouraging them to do something. Loved the first book and this one also is fun to read.
Celeste is encouraged to start a charity but she needs a patron who believes in her cause of caring for injured soldiers and their pets. She approaches Oliver the Dragon Duke quietly but a wild sensual kiss happens. He decides to support her charitable cause and their relationship begins with plenty of chemistry.
Enjoyable, happy that pets are actually mentioned as supportive to the soldiers.
I received an ARC but the honest opinion is my own.

This was a quick but very entertaining read. Lady Celeste is on a mission to fulfil her late father’s quest that was especially for her. She knew what she wanted to do to achieve this but she needed help from a well known aristocrat. Oliver, Duke of Salcombe was tired of people in government not taking him seriously, this was due to his reputation. Oliver has decided he needs to change. I did like the interaction between Celeste and Oliver and I enjoyed the way she stood up for herself. I’m enjoying this series and the more of the books I’ve read, the more I’m enjoying them. They have great characters and ladies who don’t change who they are for society. I look forward to reading more in this series. I received a copy and have voluntarily reviewed it. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
