நான் 1938இல் இரண்டு மாதங்கள் சேலத்தில் ஒரு ஹோட்டலில் போய் உட்கார்ந்துகொண்டு ஒரு நாவலை எழுதி முடிப்பது என்று தீர்மானித் தேன். நாற்பத்தைந்தே நாட்களில் 'சர்மாவின் உயில்' நாவலை எழுதி முடித்துவிட்டு, அடுத்த பத்து நாட்-களில் அதைத் திரும்பவும் எழுதி விட்டேன். இரண்டாவது தடவை எழுதியது பல அனாவசிய-மான பகுதிகளை அகற்றவும் நாவலைச் சுருக்கமாக எழுதவும் எனக்குப் பயன்பட்டது - க நா சுப்ரமண்யம்.

க.நா.சு எனப்படும் கந்தாடை நாராயணசாமி சுப்ரமணியம் தஞ்சை வலங்கைமானில் பிறந்தவர். எழுத்தாளராக வாழ்வது என்ற முடிவை இளம் வயதிலேயே தேர்ந்துகொண்டு வாசிப்பிலும் எழுத்திலும் நிறைவடைந்தார்.

க.நா.சு படைப்புகளில் சர்மாவின் உயில், வாழ்ந்தவர் கெட்டால், ஒருநாள், பொய்த் தேவு, அசுரகணம் முதலான பல நூல்கள் முக்கியமானவை. தமிழ் இலக்கியம் உலக இலக்கியத்திற்கு நிகராக நிற்க வேண்டும் என்ற கவலையில், தமிழின் மிகச்சிறந்த ஆக்கங்களை ஆங்கிலத்திலும், பல உலக இலக்கியங்களைத் தமிழுக்கும் மொழியாக்கம் செய்தார்.

சிறுகதை, நாவல், கவிதை, கட்டுரை மொழிபெயர்ப்பு, விமர்சனம் முதலான பல துறைகளிலும் தரமாக இயங்கிய க.நா.சு தன் காலத்திற்கு மேலான பல பரிசோதனை முயற்சிகளைச் செய்திருக்கிறார். ராமபாணம், இலக்கிய வட்டம், சூறாவளி, முன்றில், Lipi - Literary Magazine போன்ற சிற்றிதழ்களை நடத்தினார்.

நவீன இலக்கிய முயற்சிகளுக்கான சங்கமாகச் செயல்பட்ட மணிக்கொடியின் முக்கிய அங்கத்தினர் இவர். 1986ஆம் ஆண்டு அவரது “இலக்கியத்துக்கு ஒரு இயக்கம்” என்ற இலக்கியத் திறனாய்வு நூலுக்கு சாகித்ய அகாடமி பரிசு பெற்றார். தமிழக அரசின் விருது, குமாரன் ஆசான் விருது போன்றவற்றால் கௌரவிக்கப்பட்டார்.

1988ஆம் ஆண்டு டிசம்பர் 16ஆம் தேதி டெல்லியில் மறைந்தார். 2006ம் ஆண்டு அவரது நூல்களை தமிழ்நாடு அரசு நாட்டுடமையாக்கியது. தமிழ் எழுத்தாளர் மற்றும் நாடக நடிகரான பாரதி மணி க.நா.சு வின் மருமகன்.

ஆசிரியரின் முதல் நாவல்.

நடை அப்போதே நன்றாக உள்ளது. மேலதிகமாக இது இவரின் குடும்பக்கதை என்று முதலிலே கூறிவிடுகிறார். கதையின் கடைசி முடிச்சு மிகவும் அருமை.

ஒரே குடும்பம் என்ற படிமம் கதையின் உள்ளீடாக இருந்து கொண்டு இருக்கிறது.

The reason I picked the book is because this is the first published novel in Tamil - the oldness and the uniqueness made me feel excited and bypass other to read list.

I expected things to be more different in 1920 when I started the book. One thing I realised is world has not change very drastically from what it was at that time - though any 2K kids reading the book might find other wise the situation, the environment and the language used were not very different to what I am used to.

The plot of the novel is very simple and the situation is also not that complex. But where the story makes u feel good is the positivity that it carries and the amount of nativity that it has. The places where the writer explains on the death and thoughts around life as a result which every one goes through together with death was well thought and written.

The entire story was towards the will - but the will not living to the hype was a let down - the thought around a will is something different, may be bringing in the different thought around the same is something this book brings in fresh. Suggestion on how people can live after one leaves the world and based on those writing a will is something different. This climax is going to change the way I view and anticipate a will from a person - on that part this book has made me think different.

Go for it - not only for the oldness but also for a different read - U will enjoy it
