BIG SPOILERS AHEAD FYI!

I loved this duet. When I had first seen the cover I had thought it was a rockstar romance lmao but I’m so glad it wasn’t. This isn’t your ordinary feel good Omegaverse and was packed with heartache and twists. But it was so dang good. I’ve been on a fluffy sweet binge and needed a palate cleanser in between the sweetness before I got a toothache.😉 And this was the perfect duet.

I will say that there are spelling/grammar errors and there were some instances where a different alphas name was attached to the dialogue but it wasn’t him speaking. (Example is at the end of book 2 when ledger was talking to his dad, his name was replaced with Rydell’s which was confusing because Rydell was in the scene but it wasn’t him. I had to read the page a few times to get the typo 🥲)

We have Audrey, who was “kidnapped” at 17 years old and was abused and forced in sickening situations in a br33ding/trafick!ng ring for 10 years before her captors left her for dead in a ditch and was soon after accused of stalking a pack and was thrown into ARC. Left in tattered scars and broken bonds from alphas that had zero right to her body.

Ansel, our sweet and terrified omega, who has sworn off alphas after being kidnapped at 15 years old and thrown into a fighting ring where he was bitten against his will and had been admitted into ARC with a broken bond and absolutely skittish around everyone, especially alphas. His growth was beautiful to watch. I loved him so fiercely.

Caspian, our grieving and heartbroken alpha, who lost his family and the broken bond through his wife turned him into a shell of a person. His growth too was beautiful and I was so happy to see the way things turned out for him. 😭

Rydell, our dominant teddy bear who the world sees as a “monster.” Labeled as feral and was forcibly bitten by an omega with no rights to his body. I loved him, he would move heaven and hell for his pack and his devotion to keeping Audrey safe was soooorrr cute.

Ledger, our quiet caretaker of an alpha, who is stuck under the thumb of his crooked father and was tortured by his ex wife and her scent match. I loved him too but wasn’t as connected with him as I would have liked.

Kane, our lost beta, who’s memories were missing after his pack used and abused him and then simultaneously breaking their bonds with him. His story was also a favorite of mine. I LOVED Kane and felt so bad for him. Losing your memories, the most essential aspect of who you are as a person, is horrifying. I’m so happy with his outcome.

And last but not least, Ares, our daddy therapist alpha, who was determined to tear down ARC brick by brick to set his pack free. The head alpha, red-haired alpha god he is 😍

Quote from book one that I loved:
“She was unequivocally mine.” - Rydell 🐻

There was a ton of spice in the second book - the reason why it’s not a 4 rating is because half of the spice was from her heat which is what I would consider one spice scene in general but it did range from 28%-40% so take that as what you will!😍😍🔥

Tropes:
Recovery Center / Imprisonment
Broken Bonds
Memory Loss
Abuse
Grief
Hurt/Comfort
Two Omegas (M&F - One involved with the pack, the other only involved with the FMC)
Missing Patients / Mystery
Inexperienced MMC
He Bathes Her 🥰

Amazing read, definitely check it out! Book 2 feels a lot slower but it’s so essential to where it ends! 🥰🖤

🎶 “Do you wanna know, know that it doesn't hurt me? (Yeah, yeah, yo). Do you wanna hear about the deal that I'm making?” 🎶

Audrey (h) swore she would never end up locked in a cell again, but waking in a familiar room confirms her worst fear. Her captors have found her, drugging her and forcing her into a heat that could see her sold if she breaks. While the pack she left behind tears the world apart to reach her, Audrey clings to her fading bond and her will to survive. Because surrender would be worse than death, and she will fight until her last breath.

“You’d be proud of our boy Ansel. The way he stepped up, fought through his own issues, and searched for you. He was the one who found the switch to the room they kept you in. He asked the right questions. He wasn’t out of his mind like the rest of us. He was going to do anything he could to get you. I knew he was strong, but this was incredible.”

The first few chapters focus on them trying to find Audrey. They are frustrated because she has clearly been taken, and since they never bonded, they cannot physically track her. Ansel, however, feels much more deeply connected to her, and he uses that bond to his advantage. He steps out of his comfort zone because he wants to reunite with her. Without her, he feels lost, because their connection is rooted in a deeply emotional and soulful bond that feels stronger than the others. Meanwhile, Audrey is suffering. Being held captive again forces her to relive the trauma of her past, almost like enduring those ten years of captivity all over again. It is cruel and devastating, but eventually she is rescued.

Audrey then discovers that her own parents were behind her initial captivity, which is absolutely insane. They pretended they wanted to help her after she was rescued, but it was all a lie. Ares brings in the alliance, and together they uncover the truth and help everyone escape. The story ends with a unifying conclusion and everyone finally getting their version of a happy ending.

Did I love the book? Did I love Caspian, Rydell, Ledger, and Ares? Yes. But I loved Ansel the most. That was actually part of my struggle, because in a why choose you are never supposed to have a favorite. Still, he was the one I connected with the most. It also kind of hurt that his arc leaned into an MM dynamic, especially since Ansel is an omega. They even mention helping him through heats if needed, but he says it is not like that between them. I understand why, given his trauma and his discomfort with alpha touch, but it still felt like a missed opportunity.

The chiefs daughter's name is Abby. Oh wait no it's Elizabeth.
Kane's pack completely, physically abandon him and break the bond causing him to have a mental break. But wait they also come back and are the ones to drop him off at ARC. Because, why not?
Rydell went from a school for feral alphas, where he was repeatedly beaten and then forcibly bonded, to a hospital to heal from the damage. The hospital deemed him a danger to society and sent him straight to ARC. However, he is tattooed from *head to fucking toe*. Literally when.
Main girlie pop has been captive for 10 years. Then stalked a pack for a bit and then ARC. But when she plays the violin, *muscle memory* is what allows her to play beautifully. Last I checked, playing violin ain't riding a goddamn bike.
Ledger is from a mafia family and his name carries a lot of weight dontcha know?? Except, its irrelevant to the story. Like, just there for flavoring.
This next bit concerns events that actually happen in book two.

Audrey is in a car with three alphas, only one of whom is on her side. Another car crashes into them and the good alpha says to run. Next chapter, cut to shes running in the woods. Again. Fucking how.
The Alliance storm ARC after Audrey is kidnapped. All the staff are rounded up and basically sat on by the military. Where are all the patients during this? Who fucking knows? You know what they say if they're not on page they dont exist.
Rydell mentions he's "out of practice" of tattooing. LITERALLY WHEN WOULD YOU HAVE TATTOOED ANYONE IN YOUR LIFE EVER.
Caspian thought his daughter was dead for 4 years. Finds out she isn't and before even seeing or even speaking to her again, bites his new boo.
Oh and editing errors.

Needless to say this book pissed me off.

This was such an amazing duet; it’s bittersweet to see it being complete now. Honestly, for me these kind of stories hold the best of two omegaverse worlds.
First there is the protective pack that would do anything for their omega, and exactly what we would expect in the sweeter side of the omegaverse genre. And second there is the dark world that adds danger and suspense to the storyline; something we usually get in a slightly darker omegaverse genre. These are my absolute favorite omegaverse stories, and I really hope this author will write more books like this one!

Also, look at the beauty of the covers in this duet! I rarely feel the need to reflect on cover art, but these covers are so darn pretty. And they truly manage to reflect the story for me, which only adds to the enjoyment. Add a few amazing characters to this, perhaps some potential options for more characters and stories in this world, and I leave this second book with a happy and satisfied feeling.

Excellent books and story

This duet was very well written and thought out. Very strong plot and characters.

There are a few things that need to be addressed, like a few spelling errors. Very minimal compared to others I've read.

Two things I would have loved to be added - the issues with Audrey's parents written out. It seemed like it was a hope that the issue played out to their planning but it was never actually done, never plotted out. It would have been great to read about how that went and the deal with Seamus. Being able to read about more of the deal with Audrey's mother.

As well as it was written, being able to see those things put to rest finally would have been a finality for the duet. There was an inheritance mentioned but no ending to let the readers know if she finally received it or if her parents actually got it.

Thank you for the great reads. Hopefully there will be another soon about Elizabeth, Sarah, or Paul.

Verses and Blooms is book two in the Broken Melodies Duet. It is a dark, why choose, omegaverse romance. The story is told in first person, multiple POV.

I really enjoyed this duet and could not have asked for a better HEA for Audrey and her men. I loved the characters, storyline, action, mystery, deception, spice, and the uniqueness of the story. I loved the protectiveness and love that the guys show towards Audrey as well. I adored the mental health aspect of the story and how it is presented and dealt with.

This was such a terrific book. The writing, pace, flow, and plot were all amazing, as were the characters, character development, relationship development, storytelling, storyline, and world building. If you are in the mood for a unique and dark omegaverse, then I'd definitely recommend this duet.

The duet started out good and had a lot of putienal, but by the end you don't really find out what happened to her family if they got their karma. You also don't get any karma for kane like his old pack just has nothing happen to them and he doesn't really get closer for that. It had some parts where it was talking about ledger but put another mate name instead. I needs some work and maybe a extra epilogue to tell use what happen to her family to kane's old pack and if she gets her money that her parents tried to take it also just kind of skipped out on why really she was taken. I does say the mom cheated, but the dads just what was like ok yeah she is our kid but we will give her away to or mates old lover.

So Good!!!

I loved everything about book 1 & 2. Characters are easy to “fall” for, you just can’t help but want the best for them all. The ending made me ugly cry because it made me so happy! I love a good happy ending like this! I hope to see some standalone books for some of the side characters like the Sarah and Lilly and I mostly definitely think Paul deserves to find a pack of his own and would love to read about it! Bringing back our beloved characters but the focus would be on the new MC. It’s some thinking I just hope comes about with this duo! I could imagine the new town their forever place and it being one of the other characters story but being able to glimpse how well they’re all doing! Would be a dream come true at this point!!

The end of the duet is here!!

“And they all lived happily ever after” was something I’ve been waiting for this entire group. They have gone through so much and if anyone needed a HEA it’s Audrey and her mates.

This book picks up after the wickedness from book 1 and it just steamrolls right into the action to find Audrey and the grit and determination to get TF out of this facility once and for all.

Also I just have to say, I absolutely loved Ansel and Ares in this book, showing their character, their vulnerability and the love for Audrey.

I absolutely love Jarica’s omegaverse stories. She never fails to keep me entertained.

Book 2 start right off from.thr cliffhanger of the ending of book 1. I will say it was a pretty quick resolution of finding Audrey and then for pretty much the rest of the book until around 80% went back to character development and pack development. I think doing this way the author slowed the pace and I sort of lost interest because we were talking about their traumas and therapy over and over again and that was what alot of book 1 was. All the men were great in the pack and I liked Audreys redemption with the breeding ring. It was a happily ever after and a life they always hoped and never thought they would get.

I was eager for the conclusion of this duet, and it didn’t disappoint. It picks up right where the first half left off, and Audrey shows how strong she is, given what she’s put through. I love that this one does focus more on pack bonding and strengthening the ties between them. It also focuses on mental health and actual healing rather than the nefarious plans the previous staff attempted to pull off. The found family vibes in this are even stronger if that’s possible, and I’m curious to see if this world expands with secondary characters. It was a great HEA for the MCs who have been put through the wringer no matter what the future holds.

This was an amazing ending to this duet! Everything gets wrapped up and the only question I am left with at the end is 'Will we see these characters again soon?' There was no point in this book that I felt was unnecessary or that needed expanding, every thing happened with purpose. A lot of that purpose was the tension that saturated this plot. Will they get out? will they get out together? Can these alphas find it in themselves to be pack? I truly can't wait to see what and where comes next.

I was eagerly waiting for the conclusion to Audrey’s storyline after a bit of a torturous cliffhanger but it is finally here. These characters finally know what they want (each other) and are determined to get it no matter what it takes. The finale of this duet held some delicious spice, some much needed revenge, and all the heartfelt moments I love from James’ writing. I can’t wait for whatever story will come next!

So, this one was 10% plot, 80% Steam and 10% annoying dialogue.

Basically, one of the reasons I don't read this genre.

The entire plot could fill two chapters.
The dialogue was so sappy that I skipped most of it.
And there is something called too much of a good thing. Steam shouldn't be a substitute for plot.

Basically, I didn't like this book. And now I have renewed my dislike of Omegaverse.

This book made me feel for Audrey so much. When she vowed never to be put in a cage again and finds herself captured again her strength is just phenomenal. I love that no matter what she will fight not to let them win. I love that her men will do whatever they have to to find her. This book had me hooked from page one. Loved everything about this world and characters

More grammatical and spelling errors than usual from this author, and other errors such as saying the wrong characters father had arrived near the end of the book, then switching back to the correct character. I felt the ending was slightly abrupt, and there was no closure in terms of the FMCs parents etc

The end to an amazing duet! I love the protective pack so much. They protect their omega from the bad world outside and who doesn't want that. I love the story so much of Audrey and her mates. The HEA she gets is one from dreams for sure. Love Ansel and Ares in this one as they are showing great character while still being vulnerable. Love that.

Wonderful wrap up for this duet. Other than the lingering question of what happened to her parents (I’ve built up some interesting punishments in my headcannon), this was a phenomenal end to this duet. Rescue the girl, bring down a trafficking ring, fix a broken asylum, help people who need help, ride off into the sunset, HEA. 💜

Good but needs some editing

The book was really good and it closed out the duet nicely. However it needs another edit for miss placed/spelled words and a scene where the characters were mentioned instead of another character

A Reckoning Long Overdue

After being abducted by the men who owned her for ten horrific years, Audrey proves, again, that she’s a survivor to her core. Her pack comes in guns blazing, tearing through the illegal breeding den in a cataclysm of pure, blistering vengeance. Audrey doesn’t have a bitten bond yet at the time of abduction but her pack of four alphas, one beta, and one omega are able to drag her back home where she belongs. They formed a bond that goes beyond the tethering of bites.

I genuinely love this entire cast. Rydell, who everyone assumes is a monster, is actually a giant teddy bear with claws and a loyalty that borders on dangerous. Ledger is still the caretaker of the group, soft where he can be but lethal when it counts. Kane is finally remembering who he was before the trauma and watching him step back into his life with the pack was such a satisfying shift. I adored the cameo from Paul, his best friend.

Ares, the head alpha, treats his pack’s safety as sacred, steering them through the chaos of ARC like the unstoppable force he is. Ansel had the biggest glow-up of the duet; he actually talks to strangers now and somehow wormed his way into being my absolute favorite. And Caspian, no longer drowning in grief, finally gets the truth he’s been desperate for: his little girl is alive, turning the whole pack into instant parents.

I’m honestly sad this duet had to end. I would pay good money to read the reckoning that Audrey’s vile parents have coming to them.
