A nation built on injustice and slaves An anger born of truth and betrayal A choice that can never be unmade
The young bounty hunter Teer remembers two his own, travelling with the half-demigod Kard and struggling to learn his own strange magical powers; and that of the last Adept of the Orders, a trained master of the powers he fumbles with.
A journey deep into the Unity has bought him reconciliation with the dead man’s memories, but the injustices of both lives fuel an anger Teer struggles to control. Even as he and Kard return to the borderlands where they are safe, they collide with more of the injustice that defines the Unity.
Injustice they cannot stop. They are two men, but Teer now remembers an entire life of running and exile. Pragmatism says to move on—but Teer’s anger is done running.
Hundreds of innocent lives hang in the balance, but against the might of the Unity Army and the commands of a Spehari demigod, what one man do?
Glynn Stewart is the author of over 60 books, including Starship’s Mage, a bestselling science fiction and fantasy series where faster-than-light travel is possible–but only because of magic.
Writing managed to liberate Glynn from a bleak future as an accountant. With his personality and hope for a high-tech future intact, he lives in Southern Ontario with his partner, their cats, and an unstoppable writing habit.
So good to catch up with these two friends once again, as they made their way further into the Unity, they facing and overcoming challenges and hardship.
Forever avoiding regular roads and towns where possible, their very appearance, sure to raise questions but but seemingly out of nowhere, they are attacked by Bears, one of takes Kard down hard and in need of urgent care. Teer has to get him to a nearby town for immediate treatment from a specialist. It is while there, that even in the borderlands, they become aware that unity forces were active in the general area.
Kard recovers slowly from his wounds and they decide to ride to the next Town via a Dragon train, rather than undertake an extended horse ride. Arriving rested, they are faced with a Unity Army detachment conducting a forced recruiting drive which brings Teer’s anger to boiling point. Hundreds of young people are being forcefully rounded up for transport to a frontline to fight yet another war.
Teer & Kard are determined to free these people. What follows is a really good stoush delivered by Glynn Stewart’s blow x blow style. Really enjoyed this adventure.
I generally do not read westerns, but this one is holding my attention. Not-so-reluctant companions facing great threats and taking steps to change their world - fans of Gail Z. Martin's Wasteland Marshals series ought to really like this!
I received an ARC from the author and I am voluntarily leaving a review.
Glynn Stewart continues what promises to be a very long series about two bounty hunters with secrets, Teer and Kard. Teer now has the memories of a wizard, the last of an order. At a time when the empire is impressing huge numbers of soldiers, Teer finds himself set on an Adept's Path( paper from Faolan's Pen Publishing Inc.). There’s a lot more coming in future tales
Teer and Kard is a bit of a departure from his usual settings: it's a Fantasy/Western rather than an SF. But if you're enjoying Glynn's other works, you'll really enjoy this as well!
Another growth for Teer and Kard in this gritty steam punk novel in a futuristic wild wild west. Scary new skills for Teer asking with the start of a new journey of rebellion. The best part, a battle against a metal dragon.
