When Carver finds out Jessica's younger sister, Sabrina, has been kidnapped, he travels to Austin, Texas to help her out.
The police department is short-staffed, and a detective hasn't even been assigned to the case. Time is of the essence. Finding someone within 48 hours of a kidnapping is a matter of life and death.
Carver isn't a detective, but he has ways of getting information and tracking down people. His methods may not be legal, but they do the job just fine. He's also willing to serve as judge, jury, and executioner upon request.
It doesn't take long for Carver and Jessica to realize Sabrina has been kidnapped by sex traffickers. The stakes were already high, but now they're even higher. They have to find Sabrina before she's sold or shipped out of the country.
One thing is certain. The traffickers will have a reckoning if and when Carver finds them. And if he has his way, they'll wish they were dead by the time he's through with them.
"Sabrina never thought today would be her last day of freedom."
Wow, how can anyone not keep reading after seeing this first sentence? The author grabs us, with what I'm starting to regard as his signature "hook", from the first line of this story and never lets go. Sabrina is the sister of a friend, Jessica, who has helped Carver in the past, so she calls on him to return the favor. They stumble into an organized and well funded sex trafficking operation that is being carried out with the knowledge, and even the cooperation, of some law enforcement people, politicians, and wealthy business men. This one is a thriller and a half, with Carver grimly determined to find Sabrina and mete out his form of justice. The tension rises and falls and crescendos to a peak of intensity that had me on the edge of my seat. Warning: this one is dark in places, but so engrossing that I just couldn't quit reading it. If you like thrillers, with a tense, gripping story, be sure to grab this book and warn your family and friends to leave you alone to read it!
Carver's enjoying the beach and gets several texts from Jessica (someone who helped him locate Liana from the NSA in book 9). Jessica's sister is missing and the police aren't helping.
Carver heads to Texas. After meeting Det Piker- they feel something is hinky and decide to investigate on their own. They find evidence that sister Sabrina has been kidnapped and the car in question is distinctive- how can the police not follow up on this new info? Well instead of looking into it, Piker threatens them with jail if they continue to investigate.
That's never stopped Carver and the more they find out, the more it looks like a sex trafficking operation and they'd better find Sabrina fast. As in previous books, the traffickers should be afraid, cause once Carver gets going nothing stops him.
Dead Reckoning: A Vigilante Mystery Action Thriller was a great book to read. The book describes his story about human trafficking that was happening in America. The book was very interesting because it described what it would be like to live on the road to avoid prosecution. Carver is the hero of the book when he is made aware of the terrible corrupt people in this one small town that benefited from Human Trafficking.
This gripping thriller follows Carver as he races against time to rescue Jessica’s sister Sabrina from sex traffickers in Austin, Texas. With the police short-staffed, Carver’s unconventional, sometimes illegal tactics make for a relentless and suspenseful read. The stakes are high, the danger real, and justice is raw. A must-read for fans of intense, action-packed crime novels.
