Mosi is not an author who follows molds, not even her own. She is an author who likes to test the boundaries of comics, and this is especially noticeable in the way she arranges the panels on each page, but not only that.
As she says in the book's synopsis, a book doesn't have to have a story, just a theme, and that's exactly what happens here.
In this book, we follow Laura's day-to-day life, her personal and emotional relationships, her challenges, concerns, struggles, desires, anxieties—in essence, Laura's life could be the life of any of us. You can also sense a very personal touch from the author, as someone who probably reflects a lot on Laura's experiences.
So, it's "just" that. There’s no attempt at a more sophisticated plot or any kind of message to convey. It’s simply a normal story about the life of a person, in this case, Laura.
Is that a bad thing? I don’t know. For me, it wasn’t, but I understand that it probably won’t be a book for everyone. Personally, I enjoyed following Laura, even though I didn’t see myself reflected in her life journey. Still, it was nice to experience life through Laura’s eyes.
I won’t forget the chewing gum promotion anytime soon. 😂
