Amazing Spider-Man Epic Collection

Amazing Spider-Man Epic Collection, Vol. 13: Nothing Can Stop The Juggernaut

Rate this book
One of the greatest eras in Spider-Man history begins in this Amazing Epic Collection!

Roger Stern and John Romita Jr. joined the Spider-Man-creator hall of fame with their run, taking the web-spinner to new heights while recapturing the compelling tone and character-driven focus that made Spider-Man world famous. Together they brought classic villains like the Vulture to the fore, explored a disturbing fate for the Tarantula, told the definitive Juggernaut tale and made J. Jonah Jameson an even bigger pain that ever before. Arguably their paramount achievement was introducing the thrilling mystery of the Hobgoblin, showing in these pages how he's one of the most threatening villains Spider-Man would ever face. All this and the first appearance of Monica Rambeau, A.K.A. Captain Marvel!

Really fun with some great stories and art; this was the era I started getting into Spidey and my only real complaint is that Marvel aren't making Epic Collections of Spectacular Spider-Man to be read in tandem with these Amazing ones.

Normally this era of comics isn't my cup of tea, but the one to three issue mini storylines in this book are all pretty good fun, particularly the encounter with Juggernaut, and one of the greatest long running mystery villains in Spider Man history - the Hobgoblin. Granted there are a few duds, like The Stilt-Man deciding to fight Spider-Man to prove that he's not a joke. Can't all be winners.

A bit of a cumbersome read, but one I don't regret at all (minus the fact that this does not include Spectacular Spider-Man issues, sometimes there are noticeably missing chunks of context).

tarantula was cool, juggernaut and madame web were interesting (especially from my bonus book), vulture was nice, and finally hobgoblin had arrived. these comics flourish when the villain is insane!
