The Visual Novel version of the Webtoon. (280 unique illustrations, 45 chapters)
The Twelve Apostles didn’t start as saints. They were fishermen, tax collectors, rebels, and runaways. Before they were carved into cathedrals and quoted in church, they were just boys—flawed, haunted, but hungry for something more. And Jesus saw that. He saw them. And He called them—not just into a mission, but into a family. Young Apostles is an illustrated coming-of-age Web Novel Series about redemption, identity, and finding a family beyond blood.

Considering I have never managed to find a respectful enough book on any account of the Bible besides the bible itself, this is genuinely a masterpiece. Not only is the writing immaculate, but the art, OH MY GOD THE ART. Im jealous. The lighting, the rendering and the way she treats it with such care and respect compared to other authors. Not only that but the author herself is so kind. She's filled with love and empathy and a need to help others. She uplifts other creators, including me, interacts with them and truly puts thought and care into it all.
I'm first rating my beta reading, then I'll rate my actual, finished reading of the book. It'll be 5 stars either way😂
To begin with... I was honored to be part of Young Apostles' beta reading program, it was by God's grace for sure. I received so much through this book. The characters are amazing, the relationships complicated and beautiful, the scenery is vivid. I do have a very long review of YA, some parts I will share here later, but to put it shortly: if you want to read something good, emotional, funny and beautiful, Young Apostles is for you. It's not just for Christians but for everyone. You don't need to be or know anything to enjoy this book, and that's why it's so amazing. Now go, read it!💙
I was a beta reader for YA, and let me tell you, this book is PHENOMENAL. Absolutely beautiful, I cried so many times. You don’t have to know the Bible to appreciate YA, or you can read the Bible and see ALL of the Easter eggs. Well written, Anna!
It goes without saying that this graphic novel is definitely one of the best retellings of the Bible currently out there! The writing is exquisite, paired with equally gorgeous original art (love the blend of author and artist, 2 in 1). Also, I adore how each character has such a deep a personal story and I absolutely can’t wait to see how each of these is going to develop! Whether you’ve been a believer for a while now or you’re just starting to tap into this, you seriously need to read this book!
Going into this I had a feeling I'd enjoy it. I think I underestimated that prediction.
There are countless retellings of the gospel in all different forms from movies to music to art to books, so I was expecting something similar in this book. It's much more than that.
I think my favorite part of reading Young Apostles was guessing who was who. Brown takes unnamed people from the bible, gives them names, and sneakily works their story into her own narrative. I'm specifically talking about Rue being the bleeding woman or Joey being the centurion's slave. They're just like little Easter Eggs for people who know their text, but also a great idea for worldbuilding.
I liked the characterization of all the apostles and some creative choices made me drool. Especially making Thomas blind because his "unless I can touch the hands and side" and going to be so much more impactful. I also love unnamed man's quest for the sea and memory problems as well as all of Mary Magdalene's parts. This book changes POV's throughout which is a tricky device to use because sometimes I'll see who the POV switches to and feel like "Alright, let's get through this slog" but I never felt that while reading this book.
What really got me hooked on this series were the SUPER dark themes that hit you across the face. I'm specifically talking about moments like Joey being excited to visit the slave market, Sammi looking back at the years and years of drawings of the sea he had made, Simon being told he can't follow the Messiah (when that's insanely important to him) and- the betrothal chapter ending. Good lord that caught me off guard. I thought maybe brown might tie in Ophelia by having the wedding at Cana be her wedding but I don't think that will be the case with this type of husband unfortunately.
Can't wait for the next installment THAT JESUS REVEAL WAS SO HYPE!!!!

I had the pleasure of being on the beta for this novel. not only is Anna a wonderful writer, she is passionate and loves the stories she is telling and you feel that when you read it. I am telling you that whether youre religious or agnostic or an aetheist or even witchy spiritual like myself, the love and passion Anna has for this project is what makes me love peoples spiritual beliefs. the vibes are vibing. the yearning is yearning and the pain is PAINFUL. Each voice is incredibly unique, their stories equally interesting. This book was written to share the story, no other motive then to spread love and understanding and you can feel that.
I highly recomend it ( you can support it by buying the physical copies, or read for free on webtoon ! also the art ? killer.)
I liked it very much. I would even say I loved it, becuase lastly it is hard for me wishing for the continuation of a story after I have finished it, but this book let me wanting for much more. All the premises used to fill in the gaps in the history of the apostles and others characters were so creative and brilliant and I admire the investigation of old jew culture behind the narrative. I think what was most important for me it is the fact that apostles are inmature and imperfect, which surely is related to my personal life, but finding characteristics of mine in them made me feel closer to them and therefore Jesus, so I would say it is a great story, recommended for everyone regardless of their belief.
If you have ever wanted to truly deepen your relationship with Christ but don’t know how to start, then I recommended reading the Young Apostles. Each character beautifully written and represented. Based off of true stories found in the Bible to help us all feel the emotions that these people felt so long ago. You will laugh real laughs, have great anticipation for the apostles to continue forth in their journey, and cry real tears as you experience the heartbreak for their stories. I could not recommend this series enough. It was such an amazing experience being a beta reader for this wonderful book
This book was amazing. It was such an easy read, yet the prose was really beautiful and eidetic. It was so fun, and the illustrations were just magical. I haven’t finished the Bible by a long shot so I struggled with name confusion a bit with the POV switches but overall an amazing book! Genuinely all the pain and muscle soreness and annoyance of insomnia left my body reading this book! So excited for the next volume, and I might have to check out the WEBTOON adaptation as well! You absolutely 100 percent should buy and read this book right now it’s great and very entertaining and the characterization is excellent and the illustrations possess magic they’re just jaw-droppingly beautiful there’s something really special about both them and the writing that’s difficult to explain but I never could hear the author it really felt like the characters voices through and through. ahhh read this book!!
This book has brought me so much happiness! Anna Miriam Brown does not disappoint! She writes such raw, beautiful tales about real, imperfect people, and I seriously cannot wait for more! I had been waiting and waiting for this to release after watching her beautiful and sometimes absolutely hilarious Instagram reels, and I’m very much ready to buy the next installment as soon as she releases!
I absolutely loved the characters, the way she ties Scriptural facts with creative possibilities, and I loved the hope of our beautiful Savior woven into every tragedy and difficult circumstance. Such a wonderful book with such beautiful illustrations!
I can’t get over this book. It has everything. Just like the Bible. Adventure, family, romance, heartbreak, found family, cozy, the spiritual realm, and breathtaking art. Immediately beholden to all of the characters. The pacing gives you time to reflect and absorb without forsaking consistency. I laughed, cried, and gasped multiple times. Beautiful story. Such a stunning echo. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
This book is an emotional roller coaster!!!!!! I tore through it in a WEEK—and that never happens! It has coming-of-age themes, romance, heartwarming friendships, brotherly love, whit, and it’s biblical fiction!?!? 👏👏👏
I felt so many emotions while reading that I kept having to take breaks just to recollect myself. There were even moments that made me giggle and kick my feet like a little girl!
Everything you may have experienced in Christian Fiction that left a bad impression? Throw it out the window—because this book is a revelation.
Anna Miriam Brown may just be my new favorite author. She has such a clear gift for character building and storytelling, while also pulling the reader fully into the story.
Not gonna lie, this could have used a liiiittle more editing. But it is so compelling and I'm dying for the next book now! Also, my husband called this "Bible fanfiction" which made me laugh.
