The No-life Gamers find that everything is not well in the Prostia Empire. As he scrambles to unlock a new Summon and rig the Songstress Contest to obtain new gear, Allen struggles to find any trace of Beast Crown Prince Beku—the man who incited a failed rebellion against his nation and was forced to flee. After Allen and his friends split up, each tending to their own tasks, Allen notices that his merchant friend, Pelomas, is missing! Where could he have gone?! Was he just wandering about, or was he abducted? Time is not on Allen’s side. If the effects of Mimic wear off on Pelomas, he will transform back into a human and drown in the underwater empire! This already awful situation takes a turn for the worse when Allen is stopped by the Demon Lord himself! Why is the Demon Lord here anyway?! Can the Summoner save his friend? Or will Pelomas meet a grisly, hellish end without proving his devotion to his beloved Fiona?
I am not sure why I didn't realize it earlier, but Alen is of course playing a JRPG, so it is natural it comes with one of the tropes I really dislike about them: scripted failed boss fights that the MC somehow survives without actions on the MC's side. In a story it is less bad than in a game, but it happened a bit too much in this series to readily accept it.
We are getting some progress in the main plot and the world. It is this aspect as well as the various side characters and the work the MC has to put into getting ahead that I enjoy about the series. The author also outright states near the end that that MC is treating the whole thing as a computer game except for a moment near the end that had the MC a bit panicking. At least that confirms the MC's interaction with the world is on purpose, still makes it a bit bland, but it might change in the future based on this volume. There was also a bit too much fighting for my personal enjoyment, but that was too be expected.
All in all, 3 stars, mostly because of all the fighting and due to prevalence of the JRPG trope. Still reading the series mostly because I am curious how it will end and if Alan ever starts treating the world as world and not a game (or we might learn it is an actual game; not sure which I prefer).
