That's when the universe decided to laugh in her face.
After finally accepting Caelan's proposal, Evie was ready to put down true roots and start a life with the Shifter Lord. But nothing in Evie's life stays peaceful for too long.
When a beautiful and seductive female shifter from her fiancé's past slinks into town, she comes bearing grim tidings, splintering Evie's happily ever after at the seams. Furious and heartbroken, Evie throws herself into training with her father to finally claim the fae crown and forget the shifter who shattered her heart.
Meanwhile, Moira's chaotic new powers are becoming a real problem. Between magical flare-ups in the shop and the accidental summoning of interdimensional beings, Evie has her hands full dealing with everything being dropped into her lap. Then her banshee disappears, and her mother shows up to declare open war, claiming Evie does not belong to the fae, the shifters, or the Chimeras. She belongs to her.
Once the ancient gods smell blood in the water, they come sniffing around seeking to ally with Evie during her darkest moments, but things are about to get so much worse. After all this time, Evie's darkest secret explodes into the light, and the fallout might destroy everything she's fought so hard to protect.
S.E. Babin has a passion for writing books with a paranormal twist. Whether it's romance or mystery, she loves taking the norm and turning it into the extraordinary. Her love of reading turned into a curious exploration to see whether or not she could write her own novel.
Beginning with random, terrible poetry and a slightly popular reimagining of Beowulf's Grendel in her high school English class, Sheryl spent way too much time in the library, killing any chance of her becoming a cheerleader or anything even remotely cool. This book is wow I mean just wow! There are some very heavy and intense sections and some very funny, laugh out loud ones. It’s a book of changes and it’s life altering for Evie and her crew. I have to say Cliona, Moira and Evie together was an absolute masterpiece. It was the perfect storm of hilarious. Caelan ugh I’m trying to muster up some sympathy but I just can’t seem to find any. What he said and what he did even when he knows the full truth nope, next. I gotta say I was surprised and yet not at what I think is the identity of the meddlers but there’s still some doubts. What I do know they’re evil a bad and need to be taken out. I don’t know what’s next for Evie but I gotta say this is series just keeps getting better!
Babin really decided to triple down on the narrative twists and shocks in the series here and it’s wonderful. The author takes her character of Evie into deeper development in about every aspect of her life, pulling her close friends along with her.
Her complicated relationship dynamics with her father and mother, both gods in their own rights, are a huge part of the story. Not surprisingly. But with the fae and the devious nature of his relationship with his daughter, her own growth is perhaps the biggest challenge and factor here.
Among Babin’s many plot lines and characters effectively adding obstacles to Evie’s path, the main character is Caelan, Lord of the Shifters and perhaps my least favorite character. He’s everything I dislike in a MC, and explanations withstanding, he remains one among many better characters.
This book hasn’t changed my opinion on this character.
The surprising twists and new developments, including bringing in more mythology, just heightened the tension and depth of excitement that Babin is already building for Evie’s character and her growing found family.
I’m so excited for the next book and chapter in Evie’s life. The hints given here are thrilling. Especially if Babin continues on with some old better avenues for romance for Evie.
Highly recommended!
So well written and beautifully executed.

A Woman Who Holds the World in Her Hands Evie is many things — fae, chimera, floromancer, daughter of the Fae King and a goddess — and powerful in ways most people can’t even imagine. But in this book, more than anything else, she is a woman with a broken heart. Something has gone terribly wrong with Caelan, the shifter lord she loves. His words cut deeper than they should, his anger feels out of control, and once certain things are said, they can’t be taken back. When a seductive woman from his past arrives in town, the timing feels far too convenient — but if this is influence, compulsion, or manipulation, no one can seem to prove it. That uncertainty makes everything hurt more. Is this truly who Caelan is… or is something else at work? This installment made me a little sad, honestly. I know some readers are firmly against Caelan right now, but I’m still rooting for him and hoping there’s more to the story than what we’re seeing on the surface. Watching Evie — who can stand against gods — struggle with heartbreak hit harder than I expected. Like the earlier books, this one ends on a cliffhanger, and it’s a big one. The emotional stakes keep climbing, the danger keeps widening, and Evie is being pulled in more directions than ever. If you enjoy fantasy romance with high emotion, tangled loyalties, and ongoing story arcs, this series is worth starting from the beginning. I’m impatient to see what happens next.
It’s Episode 6 for our Little Shop of Florals crew. We continue to see character growth for our friends. We start out with some more information about Moira & her recent changes. She introduces a new character to the story, quite by accident. Tess gets her own, sort of adventure. She is also branching out in her personal relationships. Ash stays steady & dependable. Cernunnos is both helpful, and a hindrance in this episode. Ultimately it seems like he wants the best for Evie, but he also wants to pass off the weight of the crown. Evie’s relationship with her sister is slightly mending, I hope we see more of that in the next book. Garrett & Simone have a change in employment, but don’t worry, they stick around. Caelen has a blast from the past to battle with. Evie & Cliona’s relationship blossoms, as well as Cliona’s relationship with Moira. It was refreshing to have their relationship grow in a way that didn’t feel forced or too quick. The vehicle for part of this growth was kind of painful, for both Evie, and the audience. However, it felt necessary by the end. Much like dead-heading roses, it had to be done… but dangit! It hurt & I wasn’t ready!! I can’t wait for book 7!!.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Whenever I start a book in this series, I am immediately drawn in, and I don’t want to put the book down. Yes, this is definitely the case with this book. However, at the end of this book, I really wanted to throw my e-reader across the room. I wish I could say why, but I can’t spoil anything, but I can say I am devastated and heartbroken, and I am worried about the direction certain aspects have taken. I’ll just have to put my faith in the author even though I’m a little upset with her. LOL! This latest is well-written, devastating, humorous, sad, amusing, and above all, worth a read. Highly recommend. I was provided a complimentary copy which I voluntarily reviewed.
God, just when you think Evie is going to get some measure of happiness, Caelan has to go a f*ck it up. Honestly, this guy is a walking red flag. It doesn’t help that her parents also have some scheming plans afloat, nor that an enemy of her father’s is messing with things too. Add in an ex-toxic girlfriend, fights with friends, a car crash of a breakup, and you’ve got a fast paced read that I devoured in less than 90min (yes, I read quickly, move on). Definitely a must read in order series, and so grateful the next book will be out in a matter of days as I really need to know what happens next.
I have always felt that books are meant to take you out of yourself and give you different perspectives. I also like it when they make you feel better about people, and teach you how to trust in your instincts about others. And while I know that there are some things in life that are unforgivable, I also believe in the power of second chances. Unfortunately, this book turns everything upside down in Evie’s life and I am disappointed in what occurs. However, the book is still well written and I might continue reading this series just to see where it goes. That’s why I gave it 4 stars instead of the 3 I almost rated it.
I really like Evie in this book. She’s learning more about her powers and about her lover. She gets knocked around a lot physically and emotionally in this book, but she doesn’t let anybody treat her like a doormat. Evie also finds out that the swans want to use her as breeding stock to keep the chimeras from going extinct. I will definitely be reading the next book in the series.
Usually with series that have as many books as this one does, it starts to get to the point where you don’t want to even finish the series. But this is the first time that my heart hurts that I have to wait for the next book to come out. This is a precious series and I’m so on team Rowan!!!!
There is not enough stars for this book. There was so much going on and plenty of action and drama. The author did an amazing job continuing this series with this addition. My only sadness is the wait for the next book. Please, oh please, be quick about releasing the next book. I'm going to die slowly while waiting.
Pretty sure this is my favorite book in the entire series so far. I’m very satisfied with the ending and I’m praying that what I’ve been wanting to happen for about 4/5 books finally happens in the next one! Please don’t let me down! #teamrowan #littlefaeshifterchimerababies #teamplantboyandflowergirl
First, I want to say I really, really hope Evie and Caelon DO NOT get back together, it will ruin this series for me. Second I want to congratulate S E Babin for writing such a good, complex series, just wish it wasn’t being dragged out for so long…
I don't want to spoil anything so I'll just say. I loved this book and am not upset AT ALL with the outcome. I very very much look forward to the rest. Evie is up there with Kate Daniels and Mercy Thompson to me. IYKYK.
You know its a great book when it takes you through all your emotions and makes you want to pace and cover your eyes while still wanting to know what happens!!! A few people need some kicks to the shins and Evie needs a beach vacation! Can't wait for the next book!
Why have you left me on this cliff hanger. I am dying. I need to know what happens in the next book. My whole world is upside down right now and you need to make this better S.E. Babin.
Love this book and series. Fantastic dynamic and characters. A couple of twists I didn't see coming. No sexual content and very little violence. I recommend it for all ages
Not happy with the ending of this book. 5 more to go? I’m not sure I can take any more. Our hero just can’t catch a break. Too many enemies. Too much trauma. I’d like to see how she ends up with a HEA….or will she? This was by far the saddest book yet.
The story is definitely heating up. But the number of typos really took me out of the story. It’s hard to stay in and enjoy when people are being called the wrong name and wrong words (example: want instead of warn) are used. It feels like there was zero editing.
I didn't realize this series wasn't complete when I started it. Argh, now I have to wait. Hopefully, Evie smashes the Council and ends up with someone who isn't a flighty d-bag.
Though a very good story it’s also heartbreaking. Evie is forever giving everything for those she loves and you have to wonder when will she finally be happy.
I was surprised with the turn of events this time - really not happen about Caelan. Still love the humor of the characters and really looking forward to see how Evie's love interest(s) develop.
