I married my lawyer to save my son. Now I can’t tell where the lie ends and love begins.

I return to Wild Creek with nothing but a suitcase and my four-year-old.

My abusive ex is hunting us, determined to take Luke away.

Levi Hollis is the last man I should lean on—my lawyer, forbidden protector, the one who makes me feel safe when I swore I never would.

He proposes a marriage of convenience to prove I’m stable.
One courthouse kiss, meant for the judge, sets my body on fire.
Living in his home turns into whispers, touches, intimacy I never thought I’d want.

I tell myself it’s pretend. He’s risking his career. I’m broken.

Then he’s making dinosaur pancakes with my son, acting like the family we’ve craved.

I’ve already fallen.

But the man I ran from isn’t finished. If he finds us, I don’t just risk losing Luke—
I risk being dragged back into the nightmare I survived… and losing the man who made me believe in forever.

4.5 stars.

Oh my goodness, I am so loving reading this series, every moment I am living and breathing it all with them. The characters are written well, I just love them all and my heart goes on an emotional ride with them.

I just loved, loved, loved the connection and chemistry Tess and Levi had, seeing them come together and work through everything was lovely to see. The support they had from their family (their true family) was so good and this helped them to stand up for what they believed in and fight with all that they were, in Levi's case, in every way possible.

There were so many lovely moments in this for me, the different types of love shone through brightly. I am so ready to read Delilah and Emmett's story now, I wish I could do right this moment, but alas I will have to wait for it to be released.

Gut wrenchingly sweet and heartbreaking. Sometimes you only find out how durable you are by walking through fire. Truly well done. It can be difficult (and many have not succeeded) to write a story about a DV survivor who is determined to reclaim their life. This story gave Tess so much agency and support to grow and bloom at her own pace. Flowers don't just bloom where they are planted, they bloom when they are watered, nourished, and given appropriate sunlight. And the Mcleod and Hayes family nourishes in spades.

I don't want to neglect Levi or Luke in this review. Tess wasn't the only survivor. Being the child of or partner of a survivor means, surviving the trauma or violence with them, or reliving and helping them walkout of it and into their healing journey.

I loved this so much.

This is a gripping, emotional romance, a story that blends suspense, healing, and the kind of swoony tension that keeps you turning the pages.

Tess’s journey back to Wild Creek is heartbreaking and brave. She's fleeing an abusive ex while trying to protect her young son, Luke. You can feel her vulnerability strength, even when she doesn’t see it herself. Luke is an absolute scene stealer, and the moments between him and Levi add warmth and charm that balance the darker edges of the story. I'm a sucker for a well-written child character. He wanted a good "daddy," and boy, did Levi deliver!

Levi is a compelling hero. He's tender and protective without being overbearing. The marriage of convenience trope is handled with just the right amount of tension. I loved the courthouse kiss, and watching the lines between “pretend” and real love blur was great.

I would have rated this five stars, but...while Jeremy’s role as the antagonist raises the stakes, at times he felt more like a looming shadow than a fully fleshed out villain.

This novel is a heartfelt, suspenseful romance about second chances, trust, and the courage to believe in forever. It balances heat with heart. It is an emotional ride well worth taking.

“Rescued Hearts” by Nicola Hayes

-A tense small-town romance blending suspense, healing, and second chances. I received a free copy and am voluntarily sharing my honest thoughts.

Tess’s courage and Levi’s protective tenderness create a powerful love story. Luke adds warmth and heart, making every scene more endearing.

Emotional, swoony, and heartfelt—a romance full of danger, passion, and hope.
