What if the concept of karma wasn't just wishful thinking, but an actual duty that's guaranteed to be fulfilled?
For 30-year-old Maren Cordeau, it is. Having been through multiple incarnations and a daunting number of past lives, she's finally landed among the ranks of the Noires—karmic vigilantes who carry out the eternal sentences of those who have ultimately chosen to "sell their soul", be it for riches, fame, power, or something much, much darker. It's no surprise that invoking nightmares to carry out said sentences has become one of her favorite pastimes... How could it not when she's exacting justice for the innocent and defenseless?
Such a dangerous role requires the protection of a Sigard, assigned to all Noires at the time of incarnation. It's a shame it's Brant Colborn, her rival from previous lifetimes; but, regardless of their blatant animosity toward one another, they always find a way to work together—and actually grow to do a little more than tolerate each other this time around. But when Maren receives her next assignment, a trip into the underbelly of the shopping district to gather supplies turns into a nightmare of her own—her go-to shopkeeper, the Elder Witch of a coven, turns up murdered, in which she's the number one suspect.
With so many things working against her, Maren can't help but wonder if this is her own twisted rendition of karma playing itself out. But, as she revisits past lifetimes, what she discovers is much more than she'd bargained for... and could alter the very fabric of reality of years past and subsequent years to come.

I received a copy of All We Keep Hidden in exchange for my honest review. Thank you so much to the author for the opportunity to read your work!
First- the writing is excellent and kept my attention the whole way through. I was thoroughly entertained and I didn’t feel like there were any parts of the story that dragged.
I did lower my rating because I feel like there were parts of the plot that could have been flushed out more. How are Sigards and Noires paired? Do they just reincarnate or does everyone? And even more questions I can’t ask without spoiling. I understand there was a lot that was meant to be “hidden” and Maren was not supposed to have all of the answers, but I found that I had to keep going back to different parts of the book to see if I missed something when I came to parts that were not making sense for me
All in all I did like the book, and do think it is worth the read!
This has been one of my anticipated reads of 2025, and I was not disappointed. The first thing that strikes the reader when delving into this narrative is just how atmospheric and haunting the world the author has built is, while also bringing a great sense of imagery to the writing itself, transporting readers into each visceral scene. There was one scene that offhandedly described a character’s movements and actions in a manner reminiscent of those of Harley Quinn from DC Comics. Immediately, I was able to picture the scene in my mind, and this happened frequently throughout the novel.
The character development and rich mythology were the standout features of this story. The chemistry between Brant and Maren both created the heat one would expect from an adult dark fantasy novel, while also adding to the tension and tone of the narrative that hangs in the air as Maren explores how deep their connection goes. While I love the exploration of various gods and magic from different cultures and mythologies, what stood out to me was the metaphysical aspect of the story, particularly the concept of past lives and the idea that we shape reality at all times. This thought process has been a driving force in much of my paranormal and metaphysical research, and seeing it so effortlessly tied into this plot and explored with nuance and care was a great literary device the author implemented in this work.
The Verdict
With reflections of humor in the dialogue, emotional connection with the characters, and an outstanding balance of mystery, intrigue, and passion, author Kristen Martin’s “All We Keep Hidden” is a must-read dark fantasy novel that fits well into the upcoming spooky season, and a contender for Best Dark Fantasy Novel of 2025! The protagonist and the mythos the author creates were intriguing, and I instantly became invested in the story. The twists that unfold in the climax of this novel, along with the open ending of the story, bring both closure to the narrative and leave enough room for readers to crave more of these incredible characters and this world overall.
This book had me hooked in a way I didn’t expect. The first couple of chapters were slow, and I wasn’t sure if it would pick up, but once the story found its rhythm, I couldn’t stop reading. The world was so fresh and unique — a perfect blend of dark, gothic vibes and an urban fantasy setting that felt made for fall nights. The past lives and karmic justice system were fascinating, and the writing painted such chilling, vivid scenes that gave me all the Halloween feels.
Maren was such a strong character. I loved being in her head — her thoughts felt real and true to her personality. And Brant? The chemistry between him and Maren was electric. The frenemy tension was always there, sparking beneath the surface, and when the attraction finally broke through… it was worth the wait. I would’ve loved to get into Brant’s head a little more, but honestly, I adored every scene they shared together.
The twists in this story completely blindsided me — in the best way. And while I loved the ending, I wasn’t ready to say goodbye to these characters. I really hope this isn’t the last time we see Maren and Brant, because their story still feels unfinished in the best possible way.
⭐ 4 stars. If you’re looking for a darkly beautiful fantasy with sizzling chemistry and all the spooky-season vibes, this is it.
I am fortunate to have been an ARC for this amazing book! It weaves a tale of the protagonist, Maren's life and incarnations. Her discoveries lead you through an entangled, mind-bending trail. Worlds, or shall I say dimensions, so craftily written, you're sucked into them with all of your senses. Maren's been contracted for eternity, stuck at age thirty, to inflict justice on the most vile of criminals via their nightmares, which they believe to be real. Her gatekeeper, Brant, also stuck at thirty for eternity through many incarnations, keeps her safe and brings her out of each treacherous experience. What is against each of their contracts is the romance they become entangled in, and it is hot! But can she trust him? What did he do to deserve this eternal sentence? Was he once of those that she now punishes? Each of Maren's incarnations has come with a memory swipe, and now she's on a mission to discover his past in order to regain trust, as well as learning why she has been contracted to this life of justice eternally. This is where the real mission begins. All We Keep Hidden takes you on an enchanting journey while on the edge of your seat!
I received an advanced reader copy of this book but my review is my own.
If you enjoy a strong female character who doesn’t need a man to take her on adventures, this is for you! I really enjoyed Maren’s journey. The second half of this book especially goes so fast and there’s so much packed into it. If you’re like me and feel like you’ve read the same five plot lines on Kindle Unlimited, this is a perfect reprieve from that. Parts of the story reminded me of The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, The Magic Treehouse series, and the world building had elements of The Mortal Instruments with a mostly recognizable modern world with a beautiful fantastically dark twist. If you go in expecting just a romance you might be disappointed but instead you’ll get an emotional journey through trust, betrayals, self discovery and, no big deal, time. I recommend this book for fans of romanatasy, dark romance, fantasy, and anyone looking for something new!
I received an ARC copy of this book to review. While it took a few chapters, I was hooked and had a hard time putting the book down! The premise of the book is very unique, and I loved it! I enjoyed how the author took classic themes to tell this one of a kind story. The dark, gothic feeling and karma based system make this a PERFECT book for Spooky Season.
The relationship and tension between the main characters was fantastic! Both Maren and Brant are likeable characters individually, but as a couple were electric.
The storyline moved at the perfect pace once the story got going, and the twists and turns held my attention and kept me on edge wanting more.
I absolutely recommend this book to anyone looking for a fresh take on karma, and fans of dark romance, fantasy, and strong characters.
I want to start by saying thank you to the author for blessing me with the ability to read this absolutely amazing book early! This book is genuinely so good it is slow at least for me (everyone has different opinions) for the first two to three chapters but then it jumps and hooks you in, which in my opinion are the best books because before you lose interest you get captivated into the world and the characters and then you binge it without a second thought. Brant the man you are I’m just gonna leave it there fall in love with Brant guys! Won’t be disappointed, and the FMC is perfect I’ve never loved a female character more!!!!
The evolution of the characters and the intricate mythology was absolutely perfect. Brant and Maren was perfect…at first I wasn’t sure where it would go with these two but I loved every part of Maren’s journey into their bond. This mindset has significantly influenced my exploration of the paranormal and metaphysical realms. Witnessing the paranormal and metaphysical realms merge together was impressive and totally worth the read! Honestly, this story is a must read for spooky season and a strong candidate for Best Dark Fantasy Novel of 2025! The main character and the world crafted by the author were captivating, and I quickly found myself drawn into the story and the characters!
I was gripped from the beginning to the very last word. I love when a book encompasses all your favorite interests. This book had me at past lives, witches, and karmic justice!
What a fun read but it was also so insightful and left me thinking about how our past incarnations impact our present and future ones. This novel gives us a glimpse into what that karmic retribution or atonement might look like as our souls seek to balance the scales.
Highly recommend this book if any of these topics interest you. Very impressed by Kristen’s take on it and her beautiful prose.
So... I finished reading this book, but I don't understand the ending.
Did the main character get stuck in Limbo? I don't get it!
I am honestly afraid of how it ended because of how dark it was, but want to read it again to see if I can figure it out.
As my fourth (fifth?) book read by Kristen... I think this was her darkest. The main character was... rebellious. But as a fellow Scorpio, still relatable. Do we hate Brant? Not sure... again, I'd have to have another go at it.
Thanks Kristen. If I read it again, I will let you know what else I get from it.
Keep writing! Or, if it's AI, keep plotting! I mean that in the best way.
I read this as an ARC and had no idea what I was getting into, but the cover totally pulled me in. This book has a fun mix of fantasy, romance, mystery, magic, and even a touch of spice. I really liked it! I just wish I had a little more time with the main characters and maybe a bit more closure, but overall I’m so glad I picked it up. Big thanks to the author for letting me read this early—I’m excited to check out more of her books! 🙌
I was lucky enough to receive an arc of this book and it did not disappoint! This book was so unpredictable in the best way. I was kept guessing on what was coming next, which made it such a fun read. Maren and Brant are characters you actually get invested in. I have never read a book quite like this before and it was so interesting to delve into this world. Overall, a great read, especially for fall!
I’ve been waiting for Kristen’s next book & she did not disappoint! Did I just become a fan of reincarnation? Yes!
It’s a slow burn that keeps you hooked from the beginning. An easy read where you won’t want to put the book down because you just need to know what’s going to happen next. & the plot twist at the end *mind blowing*!
First off, I want to thank Kristen for giving me the opportunity to read this amazing creation!
I absolutely loved it! It was a great way for me to start the spooky season!
I found myself a little lost at first because you are dropped right into Maren's life, but quickly got absorbed in her and Brant's world & didn't want to leave!
Karma’s a b*tch...and I’m the lucky b*tch who gets to deliver the blow.
Loved the banter, loved the character development & the world building was perfect without being overwhelming.
This story had me wanting not to put it down, and I wanted to keep reading till it was finished. I am one who, if something doesn't want me to put it down, it's a good thing.
First thing, Thank you to the author for letting me read the arc copy. It was such a fun read.
This book was so good as well as an easy read! I binged it in about 2 days. It is a refresher in terms of the plot & is in its own lane. I cannot wait for others to read & learn to love the world that is this book!!
