Captain Jayce Hawkins’ merry crew of fire scroungers need one thing to do their job a decent dragoner. A specialist of dragons who doesn’t mind doing a little of bloody work to scavenge the winged creatures’ carcasses and gather the precious liquid fire coveted all over Hargos. But dragoners willing to leave the ground and risk their lives in the wilds don’t come by often, and when they do, they’re rarely made for such an adventurous life.
Harlow Prince is a dragoner freshly graduated from the famous university of Dragonest and he’s on a quest. No matter how infuriating he finds the captain of the Blunder to be—and scary the idea to live on a pirate ship held aloft by a hot-air balloon and hopes—he’s ready to suck it up to get closer to the objects of his dragons.
A BLAZING FURY is a dual POV standalone fantasy M/M romance (18+). It includes a crew of endearing idiots, a cool airship, adventures and travels all over a fantasy kingdom, dragons (obviously), and a fair amount of smut.
Content organs, blood, dead dragons, violence, firearms and swords, swearing, explicit sex scenes, childhood trauma, death of relatives, murder… A BLAZING FURY isn’t a dark book, but it still touches dark themes.
Mell R. Bright is a book fiend who lives in the French countryside, where life is all about bees and old castles. She spends her days writing science fiction and fantasy books, and her nights writing queer romances.

Do not look at his genitals, Harlow. Do not stare at your captain’s… massive cock, I realize one second before he lowers himself in the pool. Oh, gods, I’ve seen too much. Or not enough.
3.5ish rounded up. This was a fun book if you aren't looking for intense world-building, more like, give me a fun plot in a fantasy setting without too many details.
I enjoyed it, but if you're looking for in-depth world-building and realistic plot twists and resolutions, this probably won't work for you.
Dragons! Uh, and carving up dead dragons to steal their fire! Airships fueled by dragon fire stuff! Ex-pirates, evil bad guys, fire scroungers, hair-washing and bathing, mutual pining, swimming lessons, and near death cuddling.
“What?” I say. She shrugs. “Nothing.” “Let’s play a game of fuck off. You go first.”
A couple typos/missing words but whatever, I'm so chill nothing bothers me. 😂 (Yeah, how long is this mood going to last...)
I am OBSESSED 😳💥. Full stop. I am absolutely in love with this book, and I feel like I devoured it way too fast but I couldn't put it down 😂, legit I was reading this in the elevator at work in between floors 🫣. Mell continues to blow me away (in a good way of course).
This was everything my little fantastical loving heart needed. It's fun, it's edgy, it's adventure and fantasy and steampunk all mixed into an amazing story about a ragtag crew of dragon scroungers / sky pirates that you'll never ever want to leave. And I don't. I'm in a book hangover lock out because I just want to continue living in this world with Jayce & Harlow 🥹🫶.
The side characters that make up this motley crew of found family are equally as loveable and entertaining! Especially Kuroki 🥹 my heart squishes for him 💜.
If you love your romance packed with adventure, mystery, DRAGONS, a side quest that leads to a much bigger and world saving quest 👀, a cocky ex-pirate captain of a flying ship, a new crewmate tasked with keeping himself alive long enough to find dragons, and so many amazing friends along the way then this book is a must! 💯
Jayce & Harlow's story is a beautiful one, and flows so well from the get go. That tension is 🔥😘, and thankfully our young Harlow keeps Jayce on his toes! The dirty talk from Jayce is also phenomenal when he finally gives in 😈🫠. I can't wait to see what else Mell has in store for us in the future because this book was absolutely brilliant 😍💗.
My brain is all over the place because my mind is just like 'lets go back to that world!!' so that's why this review is so chaotic 😂🥰.
Thank you Mell Bright for a copy of this book. This review is entirely my own.
This book is dragons, adventures, spice and found family. When the Blunder needs a new dragoner, Harlow is hired. From the start, him and the captain, Jayce, have nothing but chemistry. They also butt heads in a way that is all foreplay. They find themselves in the middle of a mystery of dragons attacking villages with no idea why. Jayce agrees to take Harlow to investigate. Along the way they find not just friendship, but someone who sees them and understands them. The reason for the dragon attacks will force this crew turned family to fight in ways they were not expecting.
This book was amazing. From the start, all you want to do is read and not stop. I didn't want the book to end and reaching was the worst part of the book. the only bad part honestly. This book will make you smile, laugh and want to join the Blunder and it's crew on all the adventures. It has banter and feel good moments. I truly hope that there will be more from these characters. Especially Harlow and Jayce.
I have no words. Wow. That was a fantastic book. I loved the romance, the friendship, and of course the dragons. the moral dilemma in the book had me thinking what I would have done if the love of my life was facing the same dare fate as the villain of the book. 5 stars, as any and all the books of Mell Bright.
One thing I loved about this book was the way Mell wrote the dragons! Most books that have dragons follow the same outline. Either they are good, bad, or a love interest. But in this book, dragons live on the earth with humans, but don’t really interact with humans at all. To dragons, humans are just there, below notice most of the time, until humans start causing issues. Well, until recently, at least. Harlow is trying to find out why dragons have been attacking humans more in the recent years. I also really liked the idea of fire scroungers and how similar they were to pirates. Sure, what they are doing in above board, but the way they fight each other, visit brothels, and other things very much gives off pirate vibes. There are normal pirates in the world too, so you basically got the air pirates and the sea pirates. Jace has an interesting backstory that touches on this.
Now, let's talk characters. I didn’t care too much for Jayce in the beginning. I felt he was a little too rude to Harlow, and for no good reason. He was definitely trying to drive Harlow away, despite needing a dragoner in order to successfully find the dead dragons. It took me a while to warm up to him, but I did! My warming up to him coincided with his warming up to Harlow in the book. Once he got over himself, he was a lot more likable. Harlow, on the other hand, was so sweet! Harlow joins their crew to get close to dragons so he can work on his thesis, and everyone (except for Jayce) immediately loves him. How could you not? Despite his childhood, he grew up to be a kind, friendly, and brave young man! He was definitely my favorite character in the book, and is an overall cutie-patootie. Kuroki is a close second. I love that he got his own little story going on in the background.
Is anybody else absolutely over the moon when a Bright book comes out?? If I could throw all of my money her way to have her gives us more of her wonderful stories I would.
This book was fantastic. Set in a world of dragons, it drew my attention in from the start. I loved every character even if they were a villain because everybody was so well written. I wish it could have kept going and going!
Now I wait ever so impatiently for the next Bright book!
So good! I loved both the MCs and all of the side characters so much and the spicy scenes were excellent. For some reason I found myself a little bored with some parts of the story but once I pushed on through I always got reengaged! Overall, a delightfully romantic and fun adventure!
3/5. Because holy fuck was this a struggle to read through the dire need for any kind of editing/proofing it can get. Shit. It was a quick-‘n-dirty style read that was a moderately good time. It’s succinct, getting straight to the point and driving it home from start to finish with no detouring from the plot. Subplots? We have none. It’s fast-paced, has a lot of smutty bits, and for how long it is, there’s no filler content. All things I can get behind when the spirit moves. I love the cover art (which is what led me to choose it to read) and while the mistakes make me sus, I’m doing my best to curb my instinct to cry foul. Considering the past few weeks, I’m feeling like I’m gonna go get myself a cookie as a little treat for my restraint.
English
I loved it 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻💗💗💗 Give me 20 more books because I can't, I love Harlow and Jayce so much 🙌🏻
They're both sweethearts, but Harlow is... He's something else, a gorgeous little nerdy twink with a great temperament who won my heart from his first appearance 💗💗
In this story, my little baby Harlow embarks on an adventure like no other, in the skies with a diverse, fun, and dangerous crew to hunt dragons. Harlow has always wanted to go on an adventure, and this is the perfect opportunity to do it! To see dragons, learn about them, travel around the world, and explore with experts and his sexy captain~.
Jayce, on the other hand, is a true adventurer, a pirate like no other who loves his crew and would do anything to protect them. Being captivated by our beautiful Harlow isn't among his plans, but with a temperamental twink as clever as him, it's impossible not to, and soon they both find themselves not only focused on finding dragons, but hypnotized by each other.
Watching them meet, fall in love, and fight together against their enemies was very entertaining and exciting, I loved it 💗
And the secondary characters! They all have their touch, their spark. I fell in love with Kuroki and Wilbur and I think they're my favorites, I adore them 💗💗
If there's a sequel, I hope it's about Kuroki and Wilbur 🙌🏻🙌🏻 I need to see their POVs 💗💗
Oh I adored this one. I mean all the feel of a pirate novel, but with the fantasy worldbuilding and dragons?! Sign me up!
I loved the worldbuilding for this one. It is so completely different than anything I've ever read before (and I read a lot of dragon stories). The scavenging of the dragon carcasses could be really gross or unpalatable, but the reasoning and the narrative surrounding it made it make so much more sense. Then, when the mystery surrounding the dragons fighting and all that entails comes in, it just got even more interesting!
And the romance. The lust/attraction is instant, but it doesn't come easily for either of them. They're so sweet together and have amazing chemistry. All the characters are so well rounded and interesting and I feel in love with the whole crew.
This book was so good!! I'd give it more stars if I could. We have dragons, we have airships, we have a cute little nerd scores the hot ship captain.
Seriously though, I really enjoyed the book. The world building made me want to crawl into the book and make it my new home. I have become attached to all of the characters but especially a certain side pairing that made me swoon just as much as our main couple.
The plot kept me just as invested and on the edge of my seat at some parts. And I'm going to need a whole trilogy (though the story stands just fine on its own).
Dragons! Pirates! Oh this was a fun read. Mell has this great talent for world building and I really enjoyed the history and lore that was created for this book.
Harlow and Jayce were great as MCs. Opposites attract is always a trope that pulls me in. Reading about these two falling in love while in the midst of this action-adventure heavy plot made the stakes feel even higher.
The found family aspect might be my fav part of the story! Loved all the crew members (especially Kuroki) and how they all loved and teased each other.
I will read absolutely anything this author writes and this book did not disappoint. The world building and storyline were amazing and I was hooked from beginning to end. I loved Jayce and Harlow with all my heart, but I loved the side characters just as much! I could gush about A Blazing Fury all day long but you should probably just read it! 5⭐️ loved it!!
This is the first book I’ve read from Mell R. Bright, but I will be looking for more because this book was a delight to read. The way that dragons are portrayed in this story is really fascinating and I love the whole culture that has grown up around them as thought up by Bright. The various love stories added some lovely spice and emphasized why people will go to extremes for the ones they love.
Old word I know, but honestly that word sums this book up for me. Adventure, spicy times, sweetness, and a great love to end it all! Harlow and Jayce were beautifully written, as were all the side characters. Really great book from start to finish and I didn’t want the adventures to end. Highly recommended ❤️
My reviews are my own. If you liked this book, I’m glad you enjoyed it. If not, I respect your opinion. This is merely my opinion, so let's keep it courteous. My review is honest and voluntary.
It started interesting, but then it was very predictable. I wish they focused more on the dragon/adventure part of it rather than all the politics.
The biology nerd in me really enjoyed this new and interesting spin on a fantasy focused around dragons! Also the found-family was in my opinion one of my favorite aspects - you just couldn't help but love them all!
Very similar to the Monstrous Whims series where giant monsters exist and humans have little defense against their overwhelming power. Characters are well-rounded and world-building is superb.
This was such a fun read! I def rec it if you’re looking for a gay smutty adventure. The MCs are so loveable and there is a side couple(?) that I need a spin off about bc I love them.
as always a amazing story. the characters are so lovely and you grow very attached to them, really quickly. the different parts that peace together the world are amazing.
