In the darkness between two dying worlds, trust is the most dangerous magic of all.

Katrina never expected to see Evren Avery again. Two years ago, she sealed the barrier between the Vales and the Miragelands, trapping herself in a realm of wraiths and ruins, paying for her sins in blood and isolation. She's survived on wit, determination, and the memory of one stolen moment—the night she knelt before a king in his empty castle and made a devil's bargain.

One drop of blood for another.

But when Evren appears in the underground city where she's barely clinging to survival, Katrina realizes the deal was never finished. The worlds are unraveling. Magic is failing. And the Ruthless King has come to collect—not her death, but her help.

Together, they must journey into the heart of a dying realm, facing wraiths that hunger for magic, prophecies that threaten to destroy them both, and a connection that should have ended with that first exchange of blood.

As Katrina's dormant power awakens into something new and frightening, she's forced to confront the truth she's been running from: some debts can't be paid with punishment. Some wounds can only be healed by the one person who knows exactly how deep they go.

But trust is a luxury Katrina can't afford. Not when betrayal lurks in every shadow. Not when saving two worlds might mean losing the one person who's ever chosen her. Not when the price of her power could be everything—including the king who's determined to keep her by his side.

A sweeping fantasy romance about redemption, second chances, and the dangerous magic of letting someone see the truth of your heart.

Lots of action and twists to keep you enthralled with this darker side of The Poisoned Kingdoms series! I recommend reading the first two books beforehand to understand the backstory of Katrina.

It's interesting how much influence Declan still held with Katrina in this story, manipulating her self thoughts and inner voice. Along the way though we get to see her voice change; she starts believing in herself. I loved Bird as her sidekick and how he reflected her and evolved as she did.

Evren is strong and broody in this book, giving off touch her and die vibes. He's the Ruthless King to most but with Katrina around we get to see another side to him and understand his story and connection to the Vales and Miragelands.

I loved this complimentary side of the Poisoned Kingdom series, the dark POV of Katrina to complement the light we saw with Laena in Book 1 and 2.

Thank you to the author for the ARC opportunity!

Wow... Just wow... Shadow's Price is the third installment in The Poisoned Kingdoms, with Laena's sister, Katrina, the FMC. It follows her story after the ending of book 2, Winter's Fate. This journey was amazing and so good, I could not put it down! I loved diving back into the Vales with the characters, but getting it told from Katrina & Evren's POV. I absolutely loved everything about it, and can't wait for book 4! It did not take me long at all to finish this gem, it was that good! Thank you, Amelia, for giving me the opportunity to ARC this for you! So much love and support!! 💖💖

I love this world and really loved the first two books, but Katrina is a hard FMC to like, especially coming from where she was in those. I'm still not completely sold on her.

Evren also isn’t the most heroic MMC at first glance. However, the both really do bring out the best (and maybe the worst) in each other. Learning about both of their pasts has helped draw me into the storyline, and I'm super excited to see what happens after that cliffhanger ending

RELEASING FEBRUARY 11, 2026.

TROPES:
Dark Romantasy
Group Quest
Slow Burn
Strong FMC
Bird Familiar

RECOMMENDATION:
This was an amazing Romantasy that i enjoyed reading from the first page to the last page! I can’t wait for the next book in this series!

When the King she met once before, King Evren Avery, shows up to her hiding place in the tunnels of the Miragelands, Katrina is not prepared. She is suspicious when he asks her to come on a quest with him. She ultimately chooses to go when threatened by someone in the Miragelands.

Something she did years prior altered the magic of the realms and King Evren has a plan to fix it. Sparks begin to fly along the way and they both realize they are in love with each other, even though it is all very complicated. It does feel like Evren falls first!

As shown above, this book is a part of 2 interconnected series. You do not need to read the first 2 books in the Poisoned Kingdom series before starting this book. I believe you will enjoy these books either way, read by release order or beginning with this one first. Just know once you read this, if you have not already you will definitely want to go read the prior books!

A huge thank you goes to Amelia MacLeod, for letting me read an e-ARC of Shadow’s Price! This romantasy is the third instalment in The Poisoned Kingdoms, but focuses on a new couple (which is why it’s also known as book one in The Miragelands Duet).

Katrina sacrificed herself two years ago, to right the wrongs she unleashed upon the Vales. Sealing herself within the Miragelands, Katrina has managed to survive thanks to her cunning & gritty determination. Knowing she will likely never see anyone from the Vales again, everything changes for Katrina when the Ruthless King manages to find his way through the barrier… But is it for the better? Because Evren Avery hasn’t come to bring her home—instead, he needs her help to save the magic which is failing across both realms. Can Katrina & the Ruthless King find a way to stave off the growing evil? Or will the shadows overtake them both, leaving nothing but heartache? It’s time to find out if a villain can ever gain redemption…

Shadow’s Price is such a captivating adventure, & I love how Amelia positions us with Katrina as the FMC! Because, if you’ve read the previous books in this series, you’ll know our heroine isn’t just a morally grey character… She has been a walking red flag. This romantasy is about redemption, but you know what else it is? It’s a reclamation of power & agency.

And can I just say how much I love Evren Avery?! He refuses to let Katrina sit in the darkness, unless *she* wants to. He pushes her to embrace everything that she is, & that includes the magic she wants to ignore. This isn’t to say our Ruthless King is a cinnamon roll book boyfriend, as he’s so much more complicated than that. But I adore Evren, & I adore him so much for Katrina.

I enjoyed this book so much!

This is the 3rd book in The Poisoned Kingdoms series and is part of an interconnected series. The first two are a completed duology so you don’t need to start with them, although they do give a good back ground to Katerina if that’s something you’re interested in. We follow Katerina’s story a couple of years after the ending of book 2. It’s a dual POV from Katerina and Evren.

It was so good to dive back into this world. I think this is my favourite book in the series so far. I loved it. So much so I read it one go! I loved the dynamics and chemistry between Evren and Katerina. Evren has built his reputation as the Ruthless King and is dark and broody but we get to see a different side to him with Katerina. Katerina’s story is one of strength, endurance and survival. She is still plagued by the guilt of her actions. I loved seeing her story unfold and that she gets Bird as an animal companion.

I love that the world building and magic are immersive and interesting yet easy to understand. I loved the expansion into the Miragelands and the mix of side characters. This story had lots of action with plenty of twists and turns to keep you on the edge of your seat. I loved the quieter emotional moments too though.
Definitely looking forward to book 4 🥰
Huge thanks to Amelia Macleod for the opportunity to read an advanced copy.

That ending left me needing to know what happens next!

This book picks up after book 2 but instead of Laena it follows her sister Katrina. While this book could be read without reading books 1 and 2 for context it’s best to read them first.

Evren and Katrina met once and she never thought she would see him again and now they are working together.

Katrina after the other two books wasn’t a character I really liked but my mind is slowly changing about her. She’s struggling and seeing her not let her inner voice have power over her as she grew throughout this book made me feel for her. I also loved Bird because she really needed someone and who doesn’t love an animal companion.

Evren is the Ruthless King but that’s just a name. He might be ruthless when needed but not with her. He pushes her to be the best version of herself because he believes in her. He needs her help to accomplish what he is planning but will that be all that happens or will something else ignite on their adventures.

I can’t wait to see how their relationship grows in the next book and see what happens next with all these characters. I read this book as an arc.

Amelia MacLeod knocked it out of the park with this one! This is the third book in the Poisoned Kingdom series and it is hands down the best so far but could be read as a standalone. Katrina’s story is heartbreaking but also one of survival and resilience. Evren is the dark broody King who would burn the kingdom to the ground if you dared touch Katrina. Together these two embark on a journey to save two worlds while battling mythical creatures and facing their own demons.

My favorite quotes are:

“You have to let go of me,” she said again. His lips were close to her ear, his breath hit against her skin. “You aren’t a price I’m willing to pay.”

“You know what comes next for you? What comes next is that you own your own power. All of it. And you use it to do whatever the fuck you want.”

As always I sank comfortably into Amelia’s writing and settled into my romantasy happy place.
The world building is detailed but not cumbersome. The characters have depth, flaws, humour and really have you rooting for them. The magic system is interesting but not too complex to follow, I love the links between magic types and monuments. The story was action packed with well timed pauses for emotionally gripping moments, there were plenty of twists and turns and I’m desperate to know what happens next. I loved the slow burn between Evren and Katrina, such haunted characters, I’m really excited to see where the relationship takes them and how it might help them heal themselves.

WOW!! Simply incredible! Book three of The Poisoned Kingdom series by Amelia Macleod is captivating and completely unputdownable. There is plenty of action, battle scenes, twists and turns, and surprises you don't see coming. This book keeps you on the edge of your seat. The MC characters Katrina and Evren are well written with a lot of depth and are engaging. Amelia's world shines beautifully, brilliantly and magically throughout the story. I absolutely enjoyed this book and I highly recommend it!

Katrina's story is so beautiful. I absolutely loved learning about her past and paving the way to her future. The way she struggles with that inner voice resonated so much with me I can hear it in my soul, but she is such a fighter and a bad bi***. I dont want to spoil anything so Im just going to sit back and say are we to the next book yet ?

I enjoyed the previous duet a lot, so I was eager to jump into the world again. I really really disliked the FMC though, because she was the villain previously, but it was interesting to read her redemption ARC. I'm very curious about King Avery, so I really am looking forward to the second book of this duet, which will end the series. Adrian, again, loved him in the previous book and I'm hoping to keep seeing more of him, because he brings a fun dynamic to the story. It was really interesting to get to explore the Miragelands more and get to know some of the creatures that inhabit them. And the ending ? Thanks Amelia, I will remember you if anything happens to Callum.
I recommend this series once again, and as it's divided into 2 duets, you can definitely read whatever you prefer !

I didn’t think after reading the first two books in this series that I would ever root for Katrina, but here we are.

What an amazing story. I loved being in another world and finding out things as our main characters did. It was hard to not fall for Katrina and Avery and feel the connection o have. There’s still so many questions I have. I can’t wait for the next book because seriously, how do you end it like that!? Why did you do to this to us?!

I read this as a beta read without knowing anything about the previous two books. I didn't care for Katrina's state of mind in the beginning, until I learned more about her past. I enjoyed the romance buildup. The story was fairly solid when all the parts were explained. I can see this as a starting point for new readers.
