OMG HE SAID THE THING, HE SAID THE THING! In all seriousness this was a great issue, and although I’m apprehensive about a year one storyline starting each issue with a story in the present I am so curious to see what happens there. Based on this issue I’m pretty positive the cloaked figure Mr terrific is fighting alongside the hell hounds in the Palace of Eternity is Prescott. But what’s crazy is that in this issue Mr terrific was fully ready to seal all the rifts from the inside, blocking his way out…until he got a major helping hand. Huge mic drop moment as Mr Terrific’s son pops out of a portal to aid him in the fight! This is just proof to me that Mr terrific needs an ongoing series, come on you cowards. Oh also the cloaked person is using netherlight energy, and as we discover in this issue Prescott got a whole serving of that last issue when she fixed her generator by heading into it while the room was flooded with radiation. And according to the doctors when she woke up in the hospital, she absorbed all of the radiation.
All the while Michael is now attempting to use his brain over brawn, something he has finally cleared the fog away from to fully properly utilize, and is now attempting to get Bruce Wayne and his resources involved in buying Prescott’s company to put everything to an end. He is also making plans with his own money to use the law to stop Prescott from connecting her netherlight reactor to the main power grid, and just for extra good measure setting up rolling medical units in the bottoms where people have been most affected. But it seems like all of those plans in motions aren’t enough to slow Prescott down, as even against doctor’s orders she releases herself from the hospital and gets the paid off mayor ready for the power transfer right NOW.
Even with Mr terrific jumping on the saddle and making some major moves it’s time for a bit of a heart to heart with his old friend: Jefferson Pierce aka Black Lighting. I absolutely love the conversation between these two, it starts off a little apprehensive given their history but as soon as they start talking about Dre and Jefferson questions what happened…Michael breaks down and blames himself. Michael is able to run through everything that happened and then they were able to shift the convo to their relationship, how they’ve basically been ducking each other or running off to play hero and how they’ve basically been disagree on different methods. But at the end of the day they both know that Dre wouldn’t want them fighting and they are cool. But right as they make up and are about to see who can truly beat the other in a 200 dash…the alarms go off in Michael’s house. There is a major incident at the power plant, while moving forward with transferring the power, even amidst the protestors and Prescott’s pink glowing hands, they moved forward…and were promptly stopped by an attack by cormorant! He went full terrorist mass shooter on the power plant, setting off bombs in the power plant he set previously and opening fire on the protestors and anyone he can see. It’s horrific. Black lightning and Mr terrific rush over there and immediately engage the situation. With all the instability inside the power plant black lighting is forced to divert his attention there, while Mr terrified took on cormorant in a one on one. While literally engaged in combat with cormorant, Michael also had to walk Black lightning through redirecting the power inside the facility to Prescott’s facility because the current facility is too badly damaged to handle the load. Once Jefferson got to the point he was literally channeling all the electricity through his body, Mr terrific was able to focus all of his attention on redirecting his t spheres and beating the crap out of cormorant leading to this really satisfying monologue:
“But you taught me a lesson I didn’t get till right now. Every action has an equal and opposite reaction. I am yours. As long as people and forces like you exist, I’m going to be there for the little guy. I’m not perfect. But I’m gonna fight to make a more perfect world. Fair play in these fists. Right here, right now! Y’know why, cormorant? ‘Cause I’m goddamn Mr. Terrific.”
As the issue comes to an end it seems like the day is saved and black lighting was able to secure the power plant, it should finally be over…EXCEPT, no one seems to notice the floating and very pink Prescott in the background…”It’s not over!”
